Matt Damon in GQ: Handsome as Ever!

Is there anything Matt Damon can’t do? He’s been a breakout young star, a bona fide action hero, an Oscar-winner, a leading man, an activist, a screenwriter, a sitcom revelation and even an Internet meme machine. The star is also the topic of GQ’s new cover story , meaning there’s a terrific Matt Damon cover staring you in the face below. You’re welcome, ladies … and everyone really. Damon, who stars with Scarlett Johansson in We Bought a Zoo , plays a widowed father of two who buys a ramshackle zoo in the Cameron Crowe-directed film. In all, he was in five movies in 2011, and has appeared in more than 35 films since his breakout role as an emaciated addict in 1996’s Courage Under Fire . Off screen, he has thrown his full weight (and his money) behind a charity, Water (dot) org, that seeks to provide sources of clean water to the Third World. He has spoken up about teachers, the middle class, and President Obama. Michael Moore even called on Damon to run for president . Not a bad resume, right?

Which Old Movie Stars Ranked on Forbes’ List of 2011’s Top-Grossing Dead Celebrities?

Dead people are arguably less productive than you are, but a bunch of them earned between seven and nine figures for doing nothing this year, according to Forbes . Insulted? I understand. But you may be surprised by which screen stars are still banking well after they’ve left the big screen and the planet.

Is a Mob Story the Right Good Will Hunting Follow-Up For Ben Affleck and Matt Damon?

Yesterday it was announced that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will tackle their first major feature project together since Good Will Hunting — a biopic about Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger that will star Damon and be directed by Affleck. It’s worth wondering though — is a mob film the right follow-up to the esteemed break-out project that earned both actors/screenwriters Academy Awards and established them as marketable Holllywood stars?

So Much for Oscar; Soderbergh’s Liberace Goes to HBO

Earlier this year producer Jerry Weintraub predicted Oscar gold for one of his upcoming pet projects, the Steven Soderbergh -helmed Liberace biopic. “I’ve got a great script, it’s a great story, and they’re great characters,” he enthused to Movieline. “That’s what I make movies about. It’s going to win an Academy Award… for Michael Douglas .” Well, not so fast.

REVIEW: Kenneth Lonergan’s Flawed But Glorious Margaret Somehow Hits the Mark

There’s always been a soft spot in my heart for grand, uncompromising, crazy-eyed acts of directorial ambition/folly — films like Southland Tales and The Fountain , Heaven’s Gate and One From The Heart — that are either disaster or genius depending on who you talk to but that could never be described as restrained. Margaret , playwright Kenneth Lonergan’s second turn as a director after 2000’s very good You Can Count on Me , joins these titles after spending years in post-production purgatory as Lonergan reportedly struggled over a final cut, following lawsuits and studio battles and delays upon delays. (Among those listed in the opening credits are two people who’ve passed away since production began, executive producer Anthony Minghella and producer Sydney Pollack.)

No, Matt Damon Will Not Show Up in Jeremy Renner’s The Bourne Legacy

“No, I have no idea about any of it. All I know is that it doesn’t preclude Paul [Greengrass] and me from doing another one of ours,” original Bourne series star Matt Damon teased recently when asked if he’d show up to pass the torch to Jeremy Renner in Tony Gilroy’s 2012 sequel The Bourne Legacy . Cheeky as that answer is, Damon was quick to play nice anyhow. “He’s got a whole other thing that they’re doing and I wish them well,” he added, “and Tony [Gilroy’s] really smart. I’m sure they’re going to be great.” So, no hard feelings. Really . [ MTV ]

Spend Two Seconds Guessing What Film the Abduction Poster Rips Off

We’ve already discussed how Taylor Lautner might not be a believable protagonist in an action film , especially one where Sigourney-effing-Weaver is relegated to a supporting role. Now we have to wonder if Abduction is believable as a film at all, since its new poster takes a page out of a very-effing-popular movie franchise from the past decade. Run like Tay-tay, and click through for comparison.

Who is the Most Surprising Omission on the Forbes List of Highest-Earning Actors in Hollywood?

In a similar fashion with what they did with actresses , Forbes has released a list of the 15 highest-earning actors in Hollywood (caveat here for the perhaps inexact figures). Topping the list? Not Johnny Depp (No. 2) or Will Smith (No. 4), but Leonardo DiCaprio, who — thanks to his one-two 2010 punch of Shutter Island and Inception — has earned upward of $77 million in the last year. Kudos, Leo! The rest of the list is populated with familiar faces like Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise and Tim Allen. Wait, what is Tim Allen doing here?

Linda Evangelista Wants How Much in Child Support?!?

The long-held secret is out in the open: Francois-Henri Pinault is the father of Linda Evangelista’s four-year old son. Now, the super model wants the billionaire – who is married to Salma Hayek and also a father to her toddler – to pay. Literally. Exorbitantly. Evangelista appeared in Manhattan Family Court yesterday and asked for $46,000 per month in child support, a number that would be the “largest support order in the history of the Family Court,” said the man who will decide whether or not she gets it, Support Magistrate Matthew Troy. How could anyone spend $46,000 per month? Evangelista says she needs $175,000/year for gun-toting chauffeurs, along with $80,000/year for around-the-clock child care. “She testified that she wants to have a 24-hour nanny because she does not want to be alone with the child,” Pinault’s lawyer, David Aaronson, told the judge . “Miss Evangelista, you should understand, has a worth of more than $8 million, and she earned, last year, $1.8 million.” The judge immediately shot down a request for a monthly vacation budget of $7,500 and, in response to the nanny request, asked how often Evangelista works. She replied: “On days when I do not work, I am working on my image. I have to hit the gym. I have beauty appointments. I have to work toward my next job and maintaining my image, just like an athlete.” Linda Evangelista asking for $46,000 per month in child support is…
