No Justin Bieber-Centric ‘Glee’ Episode Planned

‘Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,’ co-creator Ryan Murphy explains. By Mawuse Ziegbe Justin Bieber Photo: George Pimentel/ WireImage Bad news for Beliebers: A Justin Bieber “Glee” tribute episode isn’t happening anytime soon. After rumors began to swirl that Bieber Fever was slated to sweep McKinley High, Ryan Murphy, the co-creator of the Fox hit cleared up the role of the teen star’s music in an upcoming episode. Murphy maintained that unlike other superstars whose repertories have received “Glee” overhauls — like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Madonna — Bieber’s current list of hits isn’t long enough to sustain an entire hour of New Directions-helmed numbers. “Those [tributes] are reserved for artists with big catalogs,” he told Entertainment Weekly. However, this season of “Glee” won’t be completely Bieber-free: “Bieber comes up in episode 13 as a small plot point. Sam [Chord Overstreet] sings a JB song to win Quinn’s [Dianna Agron] approval.” Murphy has recently been giving up more details about some of the storylines and smash hits set to turn up on “Glee.” Gwyneth Paltrow will return to reprise her role as feisty substitute teacher Holly Holliday for a two-episode arc that includes dating glee-club leader Will Schuester. The hit show will also take a chance on Gaga’s soon-to-be released single “Born This Way,” which will serve as inspiration for an episode airing in either March or April. “I love that that song is [an] anthem,” Murphy explained of giving the track major “Glee” love. “This show is by nature optimistic and I think a character like Karofsky could turn to booze or pills or alcohol and kill themselves or do something dark. But I also love Max and I love that character and I sorta want that character to have a happy ending. So I don’t really know what that’s going to be, but I do know we’re going to do a whole episode that’s about that song.” Are you bummed there is no Justin Bieber “Glee” episode? Rihanna, Nicki Minaj Get Flirty On ‘Fly’ Video Set

‘If we’re gonna liv 2gthr and hook up u gotta learn how 2 spell my name!’ Minaj jokes to Rihanna on Twitter. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nicki Minaj and Rihanna (file) Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Nicki Minaj and Rihanna prove that girls will be girls — even if they are platinum-selling, chart-topping megastar girls. The hitmaking ladies were filming the visual for the MC’s next single “Fly” over the weekend, and on Saturday the Barbadian-born songstress tweeted a photo of the two on set making sassy faces in full “Fly” girl regalia. In the picture Rihanna sports pin-straight, shoulder-length, crimson-and-burgundy locks, smoky eye makeup and a low-cut, black top as she leans on Nick’s shoulder. Minaj mugs for the camera rocking super-long false eyelashes with a swipe emerald-colored glitter on her lower lids and a pink bustier adorned with silvery spikes. “Me and Nikki in our new crib, lol! Gettin busy on set of FLY!!!” Rihanna wrote. “Its so hard to keep my hands off!” About an hour later Minaj laid down some guidelines for her new pretend paramour and roommate. “Lol. If we’re gonna liv 2gthr and hook up u gotta learn how 2 spell my name! Lmaooooooo,” she wrote . The Young Money raptress followed up with sly a disclaimer, lifting a line from her beastly Kanye West collabo “Monster,” writing, “Gossip Gossip ni#@a just stop it! :p.” Minaj spoke last week about teaming up with her “Fly” collaborator on the video set, and while she remained tight-lipped about the concept, she maintained that fans can expect a major clip to accompany the Pink Friday cut. “We’re shooting the video with Rihanna for ‘Fly’ this weekend,” Nicki told E! News on Thursday. “We’re going to save the world in more ways than one with the video, and that’s all I can say about that.” Perhaps Minaj was ready for any fresh remarks from Rihanna, as she playfully conceded the Loud songstress can get a little touchy-feely. “I love Ri Ri!” she gushed. “I mean, when she’s not grabbing my ass, she’s a sweet girl.” Are you excited to see Nicki Minaj and Rihanna in the “Fly” video? Western breezes past ‘Little Fockers’ with $15 million. By Mawuse Ziegbe Jeff Bridges in “True Grit” Photo: Paramount Pictures “True Grit” is cementing its status as a true box-office force. Packed with tough-as-leather Hollywood heavyweights like Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, and featuring buzzed-about newcomer Hailee Steinfield, the Western drama spent its third weekend in theaters at the top spot. The Coen brothers’ latest project raked in $15 million; a figure which kicks the film’s total gross to about $110 million. Close behind “Grit” is “Little Fockers,” which has been battling with the desert drama at the box office for the past few weeks. The film closed out the weekend in third place, scoring $13.8 million. The family friendly comedy, which is the third installment of Focker/Byrne antics dished out by Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman, has grossed about $123 million. The supernatural Nicholas Cage vehicle “Season of the Witch” landed in the theaters in third place. The tale of a knight charged with delivering a supposed witch to an abbey to snuff out her powers — Cage told MTV News he sought to create a film that is “unafraid to explore the paranormal” — debuted with $10.7 million The video-game fantasy flick — and second movie after “Grit” in the top five featuring Jeff Bridges — “Tron Legacy” spent the weekend in fourth place. The follow-up to the game-changing 1982 flick snapped up $9.8 million. The movie’s total estimated tally now stands at around $147 million. The gory ballet thriller “Black Swan” finished the weekend in fifth place. Natalie Portman’s turn as a sheltered ballerina struggling for artistic perfection pulled in $8.6 million. The film, which has scored buzz not only for Portman’s breakthrough performance but for the flick’s racy sex scene with Mila Kunis, has a total estimated haul of $61 million. David And Victoria Beckham Expecting

Soccer superstar and fashion-designer wife to welcome fourth child this summer. By Mawuse Ziegbe David and Victoria Beckham Photo: Andrew H. Walker/Getty Images Superstars David and Victoria Beckham are expanding their brood. The soccer phenomenon and his fashionista wife have revealed that Victoria is pregnant. “David and Victoria Beckham are delighted to confirm they are expecting their fourth child in the summer,” their rep told People on Sunday (January 9). The rep added that the couple’s three children “Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz are very excited about the arrival of their new brother or sister.” Although the British duo are already parents to three growing sons, the former Spice Girl admitted in 2010 that she and Becks would be open to adding another little one to the mix. “I think one day, if we’re blessed to have more children, it would be amazing,” Victoria told People. “It’s a lot having three boys. So, we’re just enjoying the boys at the moment. But who knows, one day?” The pair got hitched in 1999 in the U.K. and it appears their high-profile marriage is still going strong over ten years later. Victoria, who has since followed up her time as a chart-topping member of the Spice Girls with an increasingly successful career as a fashion designer, gushed about her athlete hubby in the November 2010 issue of Marie Claire. “We were about to go out somewhere the other day, and he was sending an email. He was sitting at the end of the bed, and he had no clothes on whatsoever. I was getting out of the shower, and I just stood there looking at him. He was all tan. Has all those tattoos — which I love. Hadn’t done his hair. He just naturally looks good all the time. He never looks like sh– in the morning. Never,” she said. “So he’s sitting there sending his emails, all ripped. Not an ounce of fat on him.” Share your congratulations for the family in the comments!

Coen brothers Western hauls in $4.5 million on Friday. By Mawuse Ziegbe Matt Damon in “True Grit” Photo: Paramount Pictures “True Grit” fended off “Fockers” and took names at the Friday box office. The Coen brothers’ critically acclaimed, dust-kicking adventure scored the top spot at the start of its third weekend in theaters, pulling in $4.5 million. The figure nudges the total estimated haul of the rollicking Western drama — which features performances from Matt Damon, Jeff Bridges and newcomer Hailee Steinfield — to just under $100 million. “Grit” star Barry Pepper has attributed to the filmmakers’ stunning attention to detail, explaining to MTV News why the film stands out from modern Wild West fare. “So many of them have so many anachronisms that kind of ruin it for me and pull me out of the period, whereas the Coen brothers are so authentic and they have such a precise vision,” he told MTV News at the film’s premiere. “And the dialogue [in ‘True Grit’] is extraordinary, which is plucked straight from the source of Charles Portis’ novel. So, yeah, this one’s a very special one for me.” Hot on the heels of “Grit” is the familial laugh-getter “Little Fockers,” which raked in $4.2 million for a second-place finish. The latest installment in the Fockers saga — the all-star gang of Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand returns for more awkward fun — has snapped up $114 million since its holiday release. The Nicholas Cage-starring, witch-battling, ghoul-dodging romp “Season of the Witch” — which was ushered into theaters with a flurry of less-than-encouraging reviews — debuted in third place. The flick snagged $3.7 million at the Friday box office. The Disney digital adventure “Tron Legacy” continues to maintain a presence in the box-office top five. The sci-fi sequel added $2.7 million to its total haul, which now stands at around $140 million. Gwyneth Paltrow’s onscreen turn at the mic, “Country Strong,” kicked off the weekend in fifth place. The flick, which also stars Garrett Hedlund and fellow music and Hollywood double-dippers Leighton Meester and Tim McGraw, made $2.5 million. Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Single To Get ‘Glee’ Treatment

Guest star Gwyneth Paltrow’s character will also hook up romantically with Mr. Schuester. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lady Gaga Photo: Ian Gavan/ Getty Images Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” single isn’t available for public consumption yet but the track is already slated to be covered by the McKinley High crooners on “Glee.” Co-creator Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that the song will be featured in an episode set to air in either March or April. The storyline will focus on gay bully Karofsky, played by Max Adler, who is in the closet. Murphy said he chose to revamp the track because of its inspirational vibe; a theme he plans to thread throughout the episode. “I love that that song is [an] anthem,” Murphy said. “This show is by nature optimistic and I think a character like Karofsky could turn to booze or pills or alcohol and kill themselves or do something dark. But I also love Max and I love that character and I sorta want that character to have a happy ending. So I don’t really know what that’s going to be, but I do know we’re going to do a whole episode that’s about that song.” The episode will likely be bookended by the release of Gaga’s single in February, and the drop date of her Born This Way album, which is set to hit shelves in May. Gleeks will not only get more Gaga, but Gwyneth Paltrow will also return as saucy substitute teacher Holly Holliday, and this time she gets to heat things up with faculty heartthrob Mr. Schuester. “Gwyneth is coming back for two episodes. She’s coming back specifically to date Will [Matthew Morrison],” Murphy confirmed. “Those two have become really good friends in real life and had really good chemistry. She’s coming back as a sex education teacher. Gwyneth and I are emailing, talking every week: What are we gonna sing? We’re trying to do something fantastic. So she’ll be [in episodes] 15 and 16. She comes back [to film] in January and she’s with us for three and a half weeks I think.” Are you looking forward to more Gaga and Gwyneth-packed “Glee”? Let us know in the comments! Nas’ Child, Spousal Support To Kelis Slashed In Half

Rapper is now obligated to fork over $25,000 a month to his ex-wife. By Mawuse Ziegbe Nas and Kelis in 2008 Photo: Steve Granitz / Getty Images Nas is kicking off 2011 with some thicker pockets. According to TMZ , the Queens rapper’s spousal and child support payments to ex-wife Kelis have been reduced by half. The MC is required to pay the “Milkshake” songstress $20,000 in spousal support and just over $5,000 in child support every month. The MC reportedly convinced the judge that the soft economy has hurt his ability to pull in cash. Nas was previously ordered in December 2009 to hand over $51,000 for monthly child and spousal payments — a total of over $600,000 a year. The figure was bumped up from a court-mandated amount of $40,000 per month in July 2009 after they announced their split in April of that year. The Distant Relatives MC has had trouble paying his ex-wife in a timely fashion in the past and once faced a civil contempt charge after owing over $350,000 in back support. In addition to having more spending money at his disposal, Nas has said he’s ready to release more solo material after dedicating his time to his joint hip-hop and reggae project with Damian Marley, Distant Relatives. “I been so caught up into me and [Damian’s] thing that I started to get used to it,” Esco recently told MTV News . “Like, I didn’t want to do the solo thing for a while. Me and D have just been doing our thing, reaching millions of people, but it’s that time.” Nas also dished that fans can expect a brand-new persona on his new material, as he plans to flex his creative skills on his forthcoming project. “Sometimes, you can approach a record and can think, ‘I got to take care of this person and I got to take care of that person,’ but you really got to take care of you,” he said. “I look at Michael Jackson, and before he passed away, I can only imagine the pressure he had to live up to for the next moonwalk,” he continued. “And the reality is, physically, he wasn’t able to live up to that. I would have loved to see him come up with the next level, without even dancing, just using his creativity. It’s all about evolving and that’s what I want to do: evolve.” Related Artists Kelis Nas

Aretha Franklin Says She Is ‘Feeling Great’

Iconic singer refuses to reveal ailment but says ‘the problem has been resolved.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Aretha Franklin Photo: Bill McCay/WireImage Aretha Franklin may not be forthcoming about her recent health issues, but she has assured fans that she is doing well. In an interview with Jet magazine, the legendary songstress, who is reportedly battling cancer and underwent surgery in December , declined to disclose her specific ailment but maintained that her health drama has subsided. “I am not going to even deal with that,” she said in response to reports that she is battling cancer. “I don’t have to talk about my health with anybody other than my doctors. The problem has been resolved.” The “Respect” singer explained that her unwillingness to reveal her mystery illness stems from a preference to preserve her privacy. “I am not one to do a lot of talking about my personal health or business. Not too much, not too much,” she said. “There are a lot of people who will talk about anything, as long as there is somebody listening. But I am not one of those people. That’s not Aretha.” While she chooses to remain protective of her health issues, the Queen of Soul did reveal how she discovered something was wrong, recalling “a very hard pain in my side” during a performance in Toronto last year that led her to check in with her doctor. “I had a colonoscopy and it showed nothing was wrong. I associated the pain in my side with the colonoscopy that I had within a day or two before. I got up at 2 o’clock in the morning and called the doctor who did the colonoscopy and told him what was happening. He said, ‘Miss Franklin, whatever it is, it is not from the colonoscopy. You need to come home and have a CAT-scan.’ Thank God he said that, because that unfolded everything, what the problem was and everything,” she said. Franklin also explained that she decided to open up about her experience and her current condition so fans won’t fret about the soul diva. “I know my fans are concerned,” she said. “Let them know I am feeling great and coming along.” Send your well-wishes for Aretha Franklin in the comments below. Michael Jackson Paramedic Recalls Hectic Ride To The Hospital

Path was blocked by paparazzi, Richard Senneff recalls during Conrad Murray preliminary hearing. By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: AFP/ Getty Images Everywhere late King of Pop Michael Jackson went in life, he was photographed and followed by the paparazzi. So it’s no surprise that even in death, the musical icon could not escape the scrutiny of the prying tabloid press and his rabid fans. In the third day of testimony in the preliminary hearing of Dr. Conrad Murray , a paramedic who responded to a 911 call to Jackson’s rented Los Angeles mansion on June 25, 2009, said the ambulance’s path to the hospital was blocked by photographers and Jackson fans who were gathered outside the singer’s home that morning. Murray, who was hired to be Jackson’s personal physician in the lead-up to the singer’s attempted This Is It comeback concerts in London, has been charged with a felony count of involuntary manslaughter in the case. According to the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedic Richard Senneff said he could not believe the mad scene outside Jackson’s Holmby Hills mansion last June. “It’s a circus out there. It’s unbelievable,” he recalled thinking in the hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to bring Murray to trial. Senneff said the ambulance driver had trouble getting away from the home because of the huge crowd outside that included a tour bus and a variety of photographers. “It just seemed wrong,” he said, describing how one man holding a video camera ran alongside the ambulance holding his long lens against the window of the emergency vehicle. When questioned by a defense lawyer, Senneff said Murray had wanted to put a “central line” — a large catheter placed in a large vein in the neck or chest — in an attempt to restart Jackson’s heart, but the paramedics did not have the equipment or training to pull off the procedure. Earlier testimony by bodyguards claimed that Murray had improperly administered CPR to Jackson after finding the singer unresponsive, did not appear to know how to give the life-saving treatment and then requested that another guard round up medical evidence before calling 911. Senneff said Jackson did not respond to two rounds of drugs meant to revive him and that hospital officials told him over the ambulance radio to “call” Jackson’s death but that neither he nor Murray wanted to do it, despite the fact that Jackson appeared to be dead when they arrived. He described Jackson not having a pulse, cold legs and dry eyes and said the paramedics’ heart monitor showed the performer had “flatlined.” When Murray was asked how long Jackson had been unresponsive, CNN reported that Senneff testified Murray told him it “just happened,” an account the paramedic said “didn’t add up.” Jackson was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Center a short time later, and Senneff said rescue workers had gone “above and beyond” the call of duty in the field to try and revive Jackson, not because he was a celebrity, but because “it was someone’s son.” In further damaging testimony, Judge Michael Pastor heard from another paramedic who, like Senneff, said Murray did not initially tell them that he had given Jackson medications. A police investigation found that Murray had administered a variety of sedatives to Jackson in the hours before the singer’s death, including doses of the powerful anesthetic propofol. Paramedic Martin Blount said the denial about what medications he’d given Jackson struck him as strange because he saw hypodermic needles and three bottles of the anesthetic lidocaine in the pop star’s room. Murray, who has pleaded not guilty in the case, “scooped up” the bottles and put them in a bag before leaving for the hospital. In other testimony, TMZ reported that two phone company representatives reported that in the hours before and after Jackson’s death, Murray texted and phoned a number of people, but never dialed 911. According to accounts of Jackson’s final hours, Murray left the singer’s side to go to the bathroom just before 11 a.m. and when he returned, he found him unresponsive. Records read in court show that Murray was sending and receiving multiple texts every few minutes after the discovery, but that he did not inform a Jackson bodyguard to call 911 until after 12:20 p.m. Related Photos Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos
