Drake Debuts New Tracks With Lil Wayne And T.I.

Weezy-featuring ‘The Motto’ and T.I.’s ‘Headlines’ freestyle unveiled on L.A. radio Monday. By Rob Markman Lil Wayne and Drake Photo: Getty Images With just two weeks until he releases his sophomore album, Take Care, Drake blessed fans in L.A. with new music when he debuted “The Motto” (featuring Lil Wayne) and T.I.’s version of “Headlines” on Power 106 Monday night. “The Motto” is believed to be Take Care ‘s last bonus track , though a track list on Zune’s website has the song as “Untitled.” Regardless of where it will end up and how it will be placed, the Weezy-assisted song is equipped with a deep rolling bass and staccato drums — a real party starter. From the first few bars, Drake throws it up for his YMCMB fam and responds to Luther Campbell’s claim that non-Miami natives Lil Wayne and DJ Khaled should pay tithes of some sort considering that they now live in the city. Drake throws a not-so-subtle nod to the 2 Live Crew legend’s jabs spitting, “Tell Uncle Luke I’m out in Miami too/ Clubbin’ hard, f—in’ women, there ain’t much to do/ Wrist bling, got a condo up on Biscayne … ain’t sh– change.” Drake also pays homage to late Vallejo, California, rapper Mac Dre , who was gunned down seven years ago Tuesday (November 1). “I’m in the building and I’m feeling myself, rest in peace Mac Dre/ I’mma do it for the Bay, OK,” Drizzy respectfully spits. For the final verse, Wayne utilizes his usual free-associative rhyme pattern with lines like “Talk stupid, off with ya head/ N—a money talks and Mister Ed” and “Ain’t sh– sweet, n—as on the streets like hookers.” For his second premiere of the night, Drake unveiled T.I.’s “Headlines” freestyle. As soon as the beat drops, T.I. makes the beat his own, adding an original flow to the popular beat. “I ball all night, go hard all day, fall deep up in your broad all day,” he starts off his verse. “I liked the record and it was spazzin’, and I felt like, ‘Let’s see what I can add to it,” T.I. told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway about his version of “Headlines” when he visited his “Sway in the Morning” radio show on Shade 45 in October. Since being released from prison in September, T.I. has gotten on a number of high-profile rap songs like Future’s “Magic,” the Throne’s “N—as in Paris” and now Drake’s “Headlines,” and while each freestyle has been well-received, Tip admits that he wasn’t exactly commissioned to jump on the tracks. “None of these people approached me. I did it and got with them [after] and let them know that I did it.” What do you think of Drake’s “The Motto” with Lil Wayne, and T.I.’s “Headlines” freestyle? Tell us in the comments! Florence And The Machine Return With ‘Enormous’ Ceremonials

Songs on sophomore album ‘all came out quite big,’ Florence Welch admits. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Rya Backer Florence Welch Photo: MTV News Florence Welch circled the globe in support of Lungs, the breakout debut that transformed her from an unknown Brit into an internationally famous performer , a fashion icon and a rather unwilling superstar. Of course, along the way, she also managed to pick up a few souvenirs. “I have some chainmail at home; it’s a good look,” she laughed. “We got a sword as well, when we were in Glasgow once. There was a sign in a store that said ‘Sword Sale, 30 Percent Off.’ How could you resist? It was a sale.” We mention all that not because the image of Welch clutching a broadsword is sort of amazing, but to point out the whirlwind two years that followed Lungs ‘ release — and the fact that they were actually tame in comparison to the four years that preceded it. Welch recorded her debut whenever — and wherever — she could, working with a handful of different producers in fits and starts. The reason was largely economic, of course, a problem she didn’t face with the follow-up, Ceremonials, out in the U.S. on Tuesday. So when she finally wrapped up promotion behind her first album, she knew exactly where she wanted to record her new one — and who she wanted to do it with. “The first album, what I learned, for better or for worse, it was done over from the ages of 17-22, with a couple of different producers. Some of it was recorded in an old swimming pool, some of it was recorded in a synagogue — it kind of was all over the place,” Welch told MTV News. “And that made it the record it is, but for this one, I was very clear in the idea that I had of wanting to make something that sounded like a whole ; so it had to be one producer, one place, one period of time to make it a body of work.” Produced entirely by Paul Epworth (whose work on Adele’s 21 is probably playing on a radio near you right now), Welch and the Machine crafted an album that, though all over the place lyrically, is unified by one common theme: an all-encompassing, soul-engorging enormity — one that’s large enough to give even Welch pause. “They’re all pretty big,” she laughed. “They all came out quite big. I was slightly worried, because I was like, ‘All the sounds are enormous on this record.’ ” Will you check out Florence’s sophomore album? Let us know in the comments! Wale Bringing His Ambition To ‘RapFix Live’

Maybach Music rapper will join Sway on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on MTV.com to talk about his sophomore album. By Nadeska Alexis Wale Photo: Getty Images In February, Wale joined Rick Ross ‘ Maybach Music roster . Since then, the D.C. rapper has been counting down until the release of his sophomore album, Ambition , which drops Tuesday. This Wednesday at 4 p.m. on MTV.com, Wale will sit down with Sway on “RapFix Live” to give fans some insight into his state of mind, 24 hours after the project’s official release. In anticipation of the album’s debut, Wale has already rolled out the singles “Slight Work” featuring Big Sean and the title track “Ambition,” which features his MMG cohorts Rick Ross and Meek Mill . One of the most buzzed-about collaborations, however, is the Kid Cudi-featured “Focused,” which caused a splash thanks to a very public falling-out between the two rappers last year and an equally public reconciliation earlier this year. “When they kept talking about me and Cudi in every magazine, this is the record I felt like they needed to hear,” Wale told MTV News . “The one that everybody was going to get behind, and it was going to go top 40 and not be corny.” During his recent “Road to Release” series on MTV2’s “Sucker Free,” Wale revealed that he was much more selective about features this time around, including about half the amount of guests who appeared on his debut, Attention: Deficit. “We kept the features to a minimum because I wanted to give you more of me than I did on the previous project,” Wale explained. Attention: Deficit debuted in November 2009 — with features from artists such as Lady Gaga , Bun B and Gucci Mane — to a lukewarm reception. Some of the album’s lackluster performance on the charts was attributed to under shipment from Wale’s former label Interscope Records. Not one to be deterred, Wale followed up with the August 2010 mixtape More About Nothing , which became a trending topic on Twitter. This year, he scored a major hit with the single “600 Benz” from Maybach Music’s Self-Made Vol. 1 album, and he dropped another popular mixtape The Eleven One Eleven Theory in August. Tune into “RapFix Live” this week to hear what Wale has to say about his journey to Ambition. Tweet your questions for Wale @MTVNews with the hashtag #RapFixLive. Stalley Says Lincoln Way Nights Re-Release ‘A Whole Different Project’

Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group signee has MTV’s Jam of the Week. By Steven Roberts Stalley Photo: MTV News Stalley ‘s inclusion in Rick Ross’ “invincible” Maybach Music Group probably came as a surprise to plenty of people — because it definitely came as a surprise to the Ohio MC himself. Arguably lesser-known than Wale, Meek Mill and Pill were before they joined the team, Stalley nevertheless caught the Bawse’s attention. When MTV News caught up with the rapper earlier this week, he said New Orleans spitter Curren$y actually linked them up. “Curren$y had called me, and he told me that Ross was looking for me and that he wanted to reach out,” Stalley recalled. “Curren$y asked if it was OK if he gave Ross my number, and I was like, ‘Yeah, of course.’ ” Stalley said Ross flew him down to Dallas during the first leg of Lil Wayne’s I Am Still Music Tour and asked if he wanted to be a part of the team. Stalley said he jumped at the opportunity because he felt the team was very family-oriented and that he would retain total control of what he was already doing. It’s a few months later, and Stalley has MTV’s Jam of the Week for the remix of his “Lincoln Way Nights (Shop)” featuring Ross. The video, which was directed by Spiff TV, features the two rappers riding around, eating lavishly. Stalley is set to re-release his mixtape, Lincoln Way Nights (Intelligent Trunk Music) on November 1, completely re-mastered by Young Guru and Tony Dorsey. “It sounds like a whole different project,” he said.” I’m just very excited, and I’m very happy to re-release it for those who might have not got to hear it.” Related Artists Stalley

Grafh Is ‘A Fan’ Of Rick Ross, Lil Wayne Labels

Free agent is considering his options while Rule EP makes some noise, in Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Grafh Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Headliner : Grafh Key Cameo : “Don’t Stop” (featuring Bun B) Real Spit : Grafh is on the road to reinvention. After splitting with Black Hand Entertainment , the company he had been signed to since coming into the rap game in the early 2000s, Grafh has been putting out new music at a torrid pace. First, there was his Pain Killers mixtape, and then in September, he dropped his Rule EP, which he streams on his website for free and put up for purchase on iTunes. ” Rule ‘s getting a good response, and I really appreciate it,” Grafh told Mixtape Daily. “I worked hard on it, I put a lot of energy into it, and it’s different coming from Grafh. I took a different approach. I attacked the music more laid-back, something you can ride to, smoke to.” Typically, the Queens, New York, MC employs a rapid-fire flow, but for Rule, Grafh slowed his complex bars down just a tad. “Stoned” moves at a syrupy crawl, while a mellowed-out Grafh raps about drinking and smoking. On “It’s All the Same,” he delivers a cautionary ‘hood tale, and on the Too $hort-sampling “Don’t Stop,” the nimble lyricist teams with Bun B for a bouncy banger. Though currently unsigned, the rap free agent hopes to broker a deal for himself in the near future. Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group and Lil Wayne’s Young Money are attractive destinations. “I’m a free agent right now looking for that new money,” Grafh said. “Rick Ross is kicking major ass. He’s one of those dudes that break artists — so is Lil Wayne. He makes hella money and good music. I love what those dudes are doin’. I’mma fan of what they’re doin’.” In the end, however, it is all about the connection Grafh is currently making with his fans. “Without the fans, I’m just a n—a rappin’. They mean more to me than people would imagine,” he said. “The fans allow me to do this, or else I’d be doing something else that probably wouldn’t be legal.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Rick Ross Drops Two New God Forgives Songs

Rozay debuts pair of singles from December 13 LP, including Nicki Minaj collabo, on New York radio. By Rob Markman Rick Ross Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images It remains to be seen if there’s truth to DJ Khaled and Drake ‘s declaration that Rick Ross’s upcoming album , God Forgives, I Don’t, is a classic-in-the-making. And while fans will have to wait until the December 13 release date to make that determination, on Tuesday night, they got a head-start after the Bawse dropped two promising singles. Rozay gave fans just a taste of his fifth solo LP last night when he visited New York radio disc jockey Funkmaster Flex and premiered “I Love My Bitches” and the Nicki Minaj-assisted “You the Boss” on Hot 97 . “I wanted to most definitely go to another level and make sure my sound continued to evolve and take people somewhere different,” Ross told Flex . “I wanted to collaborate with Nicki in another way, her breaking down and just letting us hear her beautiful voice.” The syrupy slow “You the Boss” has a 1980s soul vibe. Ross starts the record off with one of his patented grunts and then whispers sweet nothing’s before telling the object of his affection, “I deserve you!” Nicki’s complementary hook channels a loyal lover who will do anything for her “boss” Ricky Ross. It’s a more romantic tone for the Maybach Music CEO, who has grown into an unlikely sex symbol, and “You the Boss,” with its promises of lavish shopping sprees and companionship, may only raise his stock. The Just Blaze-produced “I Love My Bitches,” while also aimed at women, is dramatically different. Over a sped-up soul sample, the Teflon Don is far less gentlemanly as he laments, “Awww, man, I love my bitches.” Lyrically, Ross aims the record at the streets, mixing more tales of lavish sprees with stories of selling bricks of cocaine. With little to no regard for continuity, he goes back and forth in his verses, seducing women and talking to his boys about daily dealings in the same breath. It’s clear on “My Bitches” that Ross feels like he’s on top of the world as he spits lines like, “Living life to the fullest, what’s the emphasis/ Making love to Mary J’s ‘Reminisce.’ ” Interestingly enough, Mary J. Blige also appears on God Forgives, I Don’t. While Rozay isn’t sure that the song will be a single just yet, he holds it in high regard. “That’s the Queen. I can just tell you about the experience,” he told MTV News of working with MJB. “We made some magic.” “Me making my album is just a real tedious process that I go through,” Rozay added. “The response from the people that I did play a few records for, the feedback is incredible.” Share your reviews of the brand-new Ross singles in the comments!
