Lloyd Banks, Trina, More On ‘RapFix Live’ Anniversary Special!

Maino, the Outlawz also join host Sway on the red couch for one-year anniversary live stream Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Lloyd Banks and Sway on “RapFix Live” in November 2010 Photo: MTV News What a year! From the ascent of Wiz Khalifa to the rise of Rick Ross’ Maybach Music empire; from Lil Wayne’s 2010 prison release to T.I.’s latest incarceration; from the tragic death of Nate Dogg to the murder of M-Bone; not to mention the release of the highly anticipated Watch the Throne and Tha Carter IV, “RapFix Live” has been the number one source of all things hip-hop. After 12 months of hard work, MTV News will celebrate on the “RapFix Live” one-year anniversary show, set to kick off Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Lloyd Banks , Maino , Trina and the Outlawz will join host Sway in taking a look back at the past year in hip-hop. In this special celebratory broadcast, “RapFix” will also relive the show’s greatest moments. Who could forget when Rick Ross graced the “RFL” couch for the very first time, or when Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose professed their love for each other in front of our cameras? After announcing their reunion, the Diplomats appeared on “RapFix Live” in January — but without Juelz Santana. While the Dipset, covering for their boy, told us Elz had suffered an allergic reaction, we later learned that the Harlem spitter had his studio raided by police. Santana stopped by himself in June to set the record straight. Cam’ron and crew weren’t the only rap supergroup to stop by “RFL,” though. Before releasing their Bad Meets Evil EP, Royce Da 5’9″ and Eminem invited Sway out to Detroit for a special sit-down. Fans also tuned in, in record numbers, when Consequence swung through the MTV Newsroom and aired out his grievances with onetime label boss and friend Kanye West . Yes, there have been some memorable moments on “RapFix Live” and a wide range of guests, including Lil’ Kim, Nicki Minaj, Game, Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule and J. Cole. But the exclusive interviews aren’t the only thing that fans tune in to see on “RapFix Live.” At the end of every broadcast, the show’s guest isn’t allowed to leave until he or she kicks a freestyle rhyme. Pusha T, Fat Joe, Beanie Sigel, Nicki, Reek Da Villain and Fabolous have all blessed the show with their bars. The ridiculous rhymes and the standout moments — we’re celebrating it all on Wednesday’s one-year anniversary show! Fans can also vote on their favorite “RapFix Live” freestyles and “RapFix Live” moments on our blog. Be sure to join the Twitter conversation using the hashtag #RapFixLive. Rick Ross Protege Gunplay Lets Off Shots On New Mixtape

Self-Made is loaded with street references and gun-toting anthems, in Mixtape Daily. By Rob Markman Gunplay Photo: Triple C’s Rick Ross ‘ Maybach Music Group has become a hotbed for rap talent. Not only is there Meek Mill, Wale and Pill, who are all prominently featured on the recently released MMG-compilation Self-Made, day-one Maybach fam like Miami rapper Gunplay continues to hold it down for the streets. On his latest, DJ P-Cutta-hosted mixtape, Off Safety, GP keeps it extra-grimy. Anchored by Gunplay’s street single “Rollin’,” which features Ross and Waka Flocka, Off Safety is drenched with drug references and gun-toting anthems. On “No Arm and Hammer,” Gunplay employs some humorous wordplay on the song’s hook when he shouts, “No arm and hammer in my Hannah Montana,” using the Miley Cyrus character’s name as newfangled slang for cocaine (or “white girl” as the drug is so often called). “Mask On” is another murderous track. On it, producer Lil Lody uses a gun’s click and clack as a sound effect within the beat. Gunplay means business with his booming voice and hard-hitting flow as he raps, “Looking like I’m about to hold the whole world hostage.” Sounds like it too. The Carol City, Miami, rapper slows things down on “Skrate Up Menace” as he contemplates his standing with God after doing so much dirt in the streets. The island-tinged “Herbalist” is a marijuana ode with a twist. Starting out with a reggae sample, the Kino Beats-produced track is then peppered with kinetic drums that raise the song’s energy as GP spits his verses. Lil Wayne prot

There’s no shame in Serena Williams’ game. She definitely showed off her goodies at the ESPY Awards last night. Serena wore a hot pink jacket-dress flaunting plenty of cleavage and plenty of booty. She paired the dress with some fly gold heels and a gold necklace. I am loving the hot pink color on Serena but I am NOT loving all the spillage coming from places it shouldn’t. Come on Serena, step up your glam game! I’m going to have to give this a fug. What do you think of Serena’s look? SL Jones Carves Out His Own Identity, Aside From Killer Mike

‘Everything I’ve experienced is someone else’s experience,’ he tells Mixtape Daily of starting from ‘ground zero.’ By Rob Markman SL Jones Photo: MTV News Fire Starter: SL Jones Little Rock, Arkansas, native SL Jones didn’t start out wanting to rap, but moving to Atlanta and hanging around acts like Outkast and Killer Mike can provide plenty of inspiration. “I started out as a graphic artist, so I love to draw, and then I went to Atlanta with a passion for drawing, and when I got there, I found my passion for music,” Jones told Mixtape Daily. After making the move three years ago, SL began recording music that found its way into the hands of Killer Mike, thanks to a studio engineer who worked at Outkast’s Stankonia Studios in ATL. Mike took Jones under his wing and added him to his Grind Time crew, a collective that also includes Maybach Music Group’s Pill. The first order of business for Jones was to drop his 2008 debut mixtape, C.O.L.O.R.S. ” C.O.L.O.R.S was just me wanting to exist,” he said. “I remember that year in particular, Weezy had emerged, and he was just killing everything, and I was like, ‘Maaaan.’ I know I’m just as good as anybody out here, but how could people take you seriously if you don’t have one project out?” Still, for a young spitter, hanging around more established acts can skew one’s perspective. Though he was hardly established, Jones was experiencing things that most rap rookies don’t get a chance to. It was important for him not to get caught in the hype. “I’m in the studio, I’m around everybody. I’m around Outkast, Killer Mike. He done took me on tour with him, I done been around the country twice,” SL said. “At what point do you just go back to ground zero and say, ‘I gotta work for mines.’ Everything I’ve experienced is someone else’s experience.” On his latest mixtape, The Number 23 — which serves as a nod to his native 23rd and Wolfe streets in Little Rock — SL hooked up with tape host and producer DJ Don Cannon and continued to carve out his identity. “That meant a whole lot, because Don watched me grind,” he said. “It wasn’t like I came out of nowhere and just came with a check like, ‘Hey, Don, do this for me.’ ” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . In the new series Batwing DC Comics is bringing one of the world’s most popular super heroes to the cradle of civilization. “Batwing #1” will feature the first black character to don the Batman suit. Editor Mike Marts told IGN that this wasn’t a flight of fancy on their part. This is a legitimate story line from the Batman universe and that he will be African, not a Black American. “Batwing #1 is a series that spins right out of Grant Morrison’s Batman Incorporated storyline. This is the first time that we have an in-continuity black character wearing the Batman costume.” READ MORE AT THEBLACKBOXOFFICE.COM RELATED POSTS: VIDEO: Rhymefest Hates On Batman VIDEO: Batman Arrested For Beating Up Black People FACT OF THE DAY: Ashanti Was Once A Bad Girl Remember Snoop’s Perm & Curls?
