But you’re still up on your Gaga gossip and we commend you for that. No, this would’ve been a bit harder to see coming. After Lady Gaga’s New Year’s Eve performance rocked Times Square, she puckered up at midnight with … The Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg! Look: If ever there were a picture worth a thousand words … Embracing as the ball dropped, the Grammy winner wore a sequined mask and hizzoner donned a sweater embroidered with the American flag. U-S-A! U-S-A! Bloomberg officially chose Gaga as his “ball drop partner” a few days prior to the event. For the star, the whole experience of NYC on NYE was very emotional. “I can’t even quite describe what tonight felt like,” Gaga, who grew up on the city’s Upper West Side, Tweeted. “Sort of poetic madness. A dream come true.” We’re guessing she meant the night overall, not just kissing Bloomy. Although you never know, the charming 69-year-old does look handsome in that sweater.

Lady Gaga To Help Drop New Year’s Ball In Times Square

By James Montgomery Lady Gaga Photo: Joe Scarnici/ WireImage Back in May, ahead of the release of her Born This Way album, Lady Gaga described her hometown of New York City as her “husband,” and now, she’s been tapped to help her spouse ring in the New Year in the most traditional of ways: by dropping the ball in Times Square. Yes, according to The New York Post, Mayor Michael Bloomberg has named Gaga as his special guest at the City’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration, where she’ll ceremoniously push a Waterford Crystal button at 11:59 p.m., officially beginning the famed crystal ball’s descent over the raucous Times Square crowd. Shortly after the official announcement was made, Gaga took to her Twitter account to express her excitement, writing “I’m so looking forward to … dropping the Ball with Mayor Bloomberg! What an honor as a New Yorker!” Each year, Bloomberg chooses a guest to drop the ball and help usher in the New Year … though, to date, Gaga is his most, uh, unique pick: previous honorary button-mashers have included Bill and Hillary Clinton, Colin Powell, Muhammad Ali and Rudy Giuliani. Of course, dropping the Times Square Ball — which this year is bedazzled with 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles and carries the theme of “Let There Be Friendship” — isn’t Gaga’s only New Year’s Eve gig. Regis Philbin’s last show Friday boosted ratings of Live With Regis and Kelly to near-record highs, with ABC scoring a 7.3 household rating and 23 percent share. Philbin’s swan song included a celebrity packed audience, taped accolades from celebrities and a key to the city presented by New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Ratings were up 157 percent year-over-year, leaving many fans wondering what the network will do to replace him … and specifically who will fill his shoes. Questions for another time. Zuccotti Park Reopens To Occupy Wall Street Protesters

By Joel Hanek Occupy Wall Street protesters in Zuccotti Park before being evicted on Tuesday morning Photo: Spencer Platt/ Getty Images Hours after police officers evicted hundreds of protesters from Zuccotti Park , a judge ordered that they be allowed to return. Nearly two months from the inaugural protest date, NYPD officers moved into the lower Manhattan park, forcing out protesters as cleaning crews moved in. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg addressed the matter on his website and assured that the move was only temporary. “Protesters have had two months to occupy the park with tents and sleeping bags. Now they will have to occupy the space with the power of their arguments.” Patrick Macleod, a member of the Occupy movement who arrived on site shortly after the police had cleared out the space, reported several skirmishes and use of tear gas by police in the early morning confrontation. Click through to “Voices From Occupy Wall Street” — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators’ motivations, hopes and goals. “Everybody kind of split off into different groups, then there was four or five separate groups,” he told MTV News about the aftermath. “I was with a group that went down to the Town Hall area, and we held the park there; that’s where I spent the night. It felt like we waited the cops out, but they may have just been teasing us or something.” After dispersing, the Occupy Wall Street website called for an assembly on nearby Canal Street. Around 10 a.m., hundreds of protesters returned to march around the still-police-occupied, privately owned park, claiming their right to occupy the space. On site, MTV News witnessed a few arrests of protesters who tampered with barricades or tried to invade the park; they were forcibly removed by police. “Earlier today, the Supreme Court of New York said they put a temporary injunction saying that we could go back into the park. Killer Mike Speaks At Occupy Atlanta [VIDEO]

Outspoken Atlanta rapper Killer Mike lent his support to the Occupy Atlanta movement this weekend when he addressed the group at Woodruff Park downtown. Mike was at Woodruff on Saturday as part of Atlanta Hip Hop Day, which featured one of hip hop’s founding fathers, Afrika Bambaataa, and others. There was some confusion about whether Atlanta Hip Hop Day had been granted a permit to be in Woodruff and after some tense moments and Mike speaking to Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Mike addressed the crowd. While Mayor Reed told Occupy Atlanta on October 13 they had 5 days to clear out of Woodruff, that order has not been carried out yet. However, the police presence surrounding the park has increased significantly, giving the perception that police may clear out the park at any moment.
