Continued here:

Occupy Boston took an interesting turn after midnight on Monday, as Boston police cleared a second protest site at the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Protesters were warned by police and Mayor Thomas Menino through fliers and bullhorn announcements that the area–which was serving as an overflow for occupiers who couldn’t fit into the already-packed first site at Dewey Square–would need to be emptied. Mark Wahlberg Talks ‘Fighter’ Sequel, Wahlburgers

He also reveals that Catherine Zeta-Jones just signed on to join him and Russell Crowe in ‘Broken City.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Mark Wahlberg Mark Wahlberg was in the giving spirit at the Emmys this weekend, kicking MTV News a bunch of news about his upcoming projects — everything from a burger-based reality show to who he’ll be sharing the screen with on his next flick to who will be putting pen to paper for his planned “Fighter” sequel. This fall, Wahlberg is headed to New York to shoot “Broken City,” a noir drama in which he’ll play a private detective hired by the mayor (Russell Crowe) to investigate whether his wife is cheating on him. “I think Catherine Zeta-Jones just signed on to be Russell’s wife,” Wahlberg told us. A call to the production company behind the project was not immediately returned. Also on the movie tip, Wahlberg gave us an update about his “Fighter” sequel . Previously, David O. Russell, who helmed the Oscar-winning first film but didn’t pen the script, had told us he was looking to write the sequel. But Wahlberg let us know the original screenwriter will likely get the first crack at drafting the sequel, which will focus on Micky Ward’s three bouts with Arturo Gatti from 2002 to 2003. “We’re hoping that Scott Silver, who really wrote the first one, will come on, write the script,” the actor said. “This one we’d try to make a more commercial movie about the three big fights. Dramatically, there’s a lot more at stake for Micky because [after] he won the title, people automatically thought — he’s still living in Lowell [Massachusetts] — they thought all of a sudden he was rich. He made a couple thousand dollars for that fight when he won the title. And that’s when things got really difficult for him.” And, about those hamburgers, Wahlberg told us that not only is he deadly, deliciously serious about opening a patty joint with his brothers called Wahlburgers , but they’re also planning to shoot an Internet-based reality show about the effort. “Listen, when I told the story that I wanted to do a show about a movie star and his five friends running around Hollywood, everybody said it was the dumbest idea in the world,” Wahlberg said of his “Entourage” success. “My brother is a five-star chef. So it’s a family-run business. You’re going to see us doing a reality show about building the business. This is the real deal. We’ll throw it up there and see if it sticks.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Broken City.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

The Spirit Of September 11, 2001 Lives On In Love & Service

Read the original here:

The true spirit that lives on from September 11, 2001 is love. I was at work the day the buildings fell victim to hatred. I walked home with people covered in dust and dirt. I helped a man shake the debris from his clothes. I lost friends in those sterling silver  towers of light. There are many who feel that it is an unfortunate event that should be forgotten. My beautiful city was rendered smokey, muddy and sad. The emotional toll of watching doctors, nurses, and common every day citizen rush to help. . I walked home  more than 5 miles to turn back around and go see what I could do. I sat on a floor waiting to donate blood for hours. There were many African Americans  who reacted like  me. It didn’t matter what color, religion, sexual orientation, or creed you were. We were all one. We were bound by the love of humanity to help. September 11, 2001  is filled with people who dropped everything they were doing to help. These are the amazing true stories of the construction workers who left their work sites and marched down to ground zero, unbidden and en masse, to join the search and rescue effort; of the restaurateurs who emptied their refrigerators, brought tons of food down to the site and fed everyone working there; of the sanitation workers, teachers, phone technicians and thousands of others who stepped forward to help the city revive itself; and of Americans from across the country who joined them. There was the guy in a wheelchair who rolled himself miles from his home in Harlem to bring down a bag of sandwiches. There was the urban search and rescue team that came up from San Juan, Puerto Rico, with their dogs to spend hour upon hour hunting through the piles of debris. And there were those who had lost loved ones in earlier disasters coming to help the bereaved of 9/11 cope with tragedy. So many thousands showed up from everywhere to help that the authorities had to turn the city’s main convention venue, the Javits Center, into a special site dedicated to organizing the volunteers according to skills and capabilities. Recalling that enormous outpouring of support from “people of all persuasions, backgrounds and beliefs,” former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani says, “I saw it, I lived it, and am humbled by the heartwarming, remarkable response that demonstrated the resilience of America.” Now we honor the dead, recall the pain and hope for the future. We can continue their legacy by serving. I challenge you to serve on this day. The true spirit of September 11, 2001 is love.  God Bless America and may the lost souls rest in peace. Yesterday The Blaze reported on a county labor council president in Wisconsin who said he was banning Republican lawmakers from the city of Wausau’s Labor Day Parade, an event which the council sponsors. Now Wassau’s Mayor has shot down the ban, saying that because the city of Wausau pays for a portion of the parade’s costs including liability insurance, the event is required to be non-partisan. Hurricane Irene Survival Tips ‘Jersey Shore’-Style

After flying to L.A. for the VMAs, the cast shares how they would have endured the storm’s charge through New Jersey. By Eric Ditzian Pauly D and Vinny Guadagnino Photo: MTV News “We’ve warned the public,” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced on Saturday as Hurricane Irene shut down most of the East Coast, “and now we have to deal with Mother Nature.” That’s when the cast of the “Jersey Shore” took out their grenade whistle and declared: So long, ladies! The storm whipped through the Tri-State area early Sunday morning (August 28), leaving thousands in New Jersey and Long Island without power, and causing dangerous floods in the Garden State. But housemates Snooki, Vinny, Deena and Sammi were safe and dry, having sauntered aboard a private jet and zipped away from the tri-state area and toward Los Angeles for the VMAs , pausing only for Vinny to tweet a picture of himself at the controls of the aircraft. “I was flying the plane, but that was on the ground. I was just messing around in the cockpit,” he told us alongside his castmates a few hours after touching down in La La Land. “Being on a private jet, it’s not that bad — except it didn’t have wi-fi. Could you believe it?” Pauly couldn’t, turning to his pal and declaring, “You’ve changed, bro! When your private jet doesn’t have wi-fi and you gotta complain about it — Vinny problems!” Then again, they haven’t changed much at all. Their suggestions for hurricane preparedness included battery-powered hairdryers, a healthy dose of GTL, and the suggestion, “If you’re by the water, just be more not by the water.” Luckily for them (and, perhaps, their old Jersey stomping grounds), the reality stars were far from the hurricane’s path. Because if they were in the Heights, despite Irene’s wrath, the “Shore” kids would be staging one heck of a bash. “We’d have a lights-out party,” Pauly said. “You party for the whole duration,” Added Ronnie, “Hey, a bottle of Ron-ron juice, let’s go!” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sunday from Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the Selena Gomez-hosted pre-show at 8. Philly Mayor Gets Gully And Lays Down The Law For Black Parents: Kids Need More Than A Just “Sperm Donor Or Human ATM”

Michael Nutter is speaking out on the most major problem in the black community: The painful images and graphic stories of repeated violent assaults and vandalism by mobs of black teenagers had gotten to be too much for Mayor Michael Nutter. As an elected official and a “proud black man” in the nation’s fifth-largest city, Nutter felt he had to go a step beyond ordering a law enforcement crackdown. So he channeled the spirit of another straight-talking Philadelphian: Bill Cosby. Nutter took to the pulpit at his church last weekend and gave an impassioned, old-fashioned talking-to directed at the swarms of teens who have been using social networks to arrange violent sprees downtown, injuring victims and damaging property. Moreover, he called out parents for not doing a better job raising their children. “You’ve damaged yourself, you’ve damaged another person, you’ve damaged your peers and, quite honestly, you’ve damaged your own race,” Nutter said at Mount Carmel Baptist Church. The 54-year-old mayor, married with a teenage daughter and a grown son, called out absentee fathers and neglectful parents. He did not mince words, saying they need to be more than just a “sperm donor” or a “human ATM.” “That’s part of the problem in our community,” Nutter told the congregation. “Let me speak plainer: That’s part of the problem in the black community. … We have too many men making too many babies they don’t want to take care of and then we end up dealing with your children.” It’s a version of the tough-love message Cosby and others have telegraphed for years. “I am a proud black man in this country,” Nutter said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It was a message that needed to be said. It needed to be said at this time. … People have had enough of this nonsense, black and white.” At a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People gathering in 2004, Cosby chided the black community in a speech commemorating the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the legal case that toppled segregated education. “These people marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education and now we’ve got these knuckleheads walking around,” Cosby said then. “I can’t even talk the way these people talk, ‘Why you ain’t,’ ‘Where you is’ … and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk,” the entertainer said. Nutter’s words also harkened back to a 2008 Father’s Day speech by then-presidential candidate Barack Obama. “If we are honest with ourselves, we’ll admit that what too many fathers also are is missing — missing from too many lives and too many homes,” Obama told a church in Chicago. “They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men.” Source

They’re Here! Prince William, Kate Middleton Touch Down in L.A.

U-S-A! U-S-A! Following a string of appearances in Canada , the stylish and downright adorable royals, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have arrived in L.A. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge landed at LAX around 4 p.m. local time Friday, greeting Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Gov. Jerry Brown. Prince William took the lead and his stunning wife, who is making her first trip to the U.S., followed. She looked amazing. Big surprise there: The Duke and Duchess touch down in America . Kate pulled off a wardrobe change on the plane, having departed Canada in a scarlet Marianne coat-dress by Catherine Walker, only to arrive in a lavender Peridot dress designed by Roksanda Illinic and LK Bennett nude heels. After landing at LAX, the Royals were whisked off for official business. William and Catherine swung by The Beverly Hilton hotel for Variety ‘s Venture Capital and New Media Summit, discussing the U.K.’s technology innovations and new media, and meeting with representatives of different companies. Once that was over, they attended an outdoor reception held at the British Consulate-General residence, where he Duke and Duchess worked the crowd. All throughout the day, fans have been crowding the streets of Hancock Park near the house where Prince William and Kate Middleston will reside. Security is ridiculously tight. “Our primary concern is to protect the rights and privacy of the residents as well as the safety of the royal couple,” LAPD spokeswoman Mitzi Fierro said. Tomorrow’s itinerary includes a charity polo match at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club and then a glamorous evening at the BAFTA Awards. Welcome, William and Kate! [Photos: Fame Pictures]
