Jon Huntsman Drops Out Of Presidential Race

Former Obama ambassador failed to pick up momentum in race. By Gil Kaufman John Huntsman speaks during the 2012 New Hampshire primary Photo: Getty Images After a series of disappointing finishes and a failure to emerge from the pack, former Utah governor Jon Huntsman announced his withdrawal from the 2012 presidential race on Monday (January 16). Huntsman threw his support behind leading candidate Mitt Romney in a bid to unite a Republican party that is sorely divided over which candidate will take on President Obama in November. Huntsman served as ambassador to China in the Obama administration and was the sole voice of moderation amid a pack of White House contenders that have done their utmost to highlight their conservative bona fides. After skipping campaigning in Iowa
to focus all his energies on last week’s New Hampshire primary, he came in a distant third to Romney and Ron Paul. And though he put on a brave face and said his #3 finish in New Hampshire was a “ticket to ride” to the next contest in South Carolina on January 21, the reality of his anemic support base appears to have become clear to the man whose bid was launched on the promise of bringing civility back to the process. Almost from the start, Huntsman was unable to win over a Republican voting base that looked at his service in the current Democrat administration with scorn and blanched at his support on some social issues, including civil unions for gay couples. In a campaign that struggled to pull polling numbers out of the single digits for most of the past year, one of the bright spots for Huntsman was the media embrace of his music-loving daughters’
social-networking prowess. Sisters Mary Anne, 26, Abby, 25, and Liddy, 24, helped focus some attention on their dad’s often-overlooked campaign with their irreverent viral videos and tweets. . Speaking to MTV’s Power of 12 last week in New Hampshire, the Huntsman trio said the grueling campaign was a “family affair”
that they were really enjoying. “We call it a roller coaster: You never know which way the car is going to go,” said Abby on the eve of the Granite State contest when it looked like her dad’s poll numbers were finally inching up into the solid double digits. “We think [social media] is crucially important for this election cycle, especially for our younger generation, so we’ve kind of run with it,” added Liddy, referring to such now-infamous bits as a YouTube send-up of former candidate Herman Cain’s “smoking” commercial and a Justin Timberlake remake promoting their dad. Despite his pledge to endorse Romney, just last week Huntsman referred to the former Massachusetts governor as “unelectable.” With Huntsman — who, like Romney, was vying to be the nation’s first Mormon president — out of the race, leading candidate Romney is now facing off against Paul, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, former House speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Governor Rick Perry. Lindsay Lohan to Star in Elizabeth Taylor Biopic?

Lindsay Lohan is in “early talks” to play Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime movie “Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story,” according to Entertainment Weekly . Who better to play the a glamorous Hollywood icon than a train wreck frequent jailbird Playboy model who hasn’t had a notable acting role in years! The film will focus on Taylor’s tumultuous relationship with two-time husband Richard Burton. So how on Earth did they think of Lohan for the part? Like Lohan, Taylor began her career at a young age, growing up in the spotlight. Some say she made plenty of missteps along her road to icon status. Lohan also posed for Marilyn Monroe-inspired Playboy photos which allegedly racked up record sales for the mag, resurrecting her career somewhat. Maybe a Liz T. photo spread is next? Eh, maybe not. Rush Limbaugh: Dems WANT Mitt to Win!

Are Democrats salivating at facing the guy winning – or at least perceived, by the media, to have the best chance of winning – the Republican presidential race? Yes, Rush Limbaugh says. The radio host is one of several prominent Republicans who believe the party would stand a better chance with a less vanilla candidate – and Democrats know it. Rush Limbaugh: Dems Want Romney! “The Democrats are afraid of any candidate they have sought to destroy. You can start with Sarah Palin, you can move on to Santorum. Any – any conservative who shows any interest – the Democrats set out to destroy,” he said. “That’s who they’re genuinely afraid of. They are not hammering Mitt Romney at all, and (Democratic strategist) Donna Brazile let the cat out of the bag. Don’t doubt me.” Do you agree with Limbaugh’s point? Makes you wonder if Ron Paul were leading polls, how the White House and other prominent Dems would react.

Drake’s Take Care: Making The Album, Track By Track

Producer Noah ’40’ Shebib gives MTV News the inside story in an exclusive interview. By Steven Roberts Drake Photo: John Shearer/ Getty Images Despite all the critical and commercial acclaim Drake ‘s Take Care has rightly earned, the Toronto MC has remained relatively quiet when promoting the album. Relative in the sense that Thank Me Later ‘s release was accompanied by the hoopla of in-store signings and a documentary . That’s not the only way the two projects differ. Where TML featured a number of A-list hitmakers, from Kanye West to Swizz Beatz, the biggest name in Drake’s sophomore effort’s production credits is Just Blaze. The album certainly doesn’t suffer from that lack of notoriety, however. In fact, it sounds more focused with the lesser-known T-Minus , and Drake’s right-hand man Noah “40” Shebib stealing the show. Their efforts helped to make it more Drake’s album — however introspective, weird and altogether refreshing that might be. When MTV News caught up with 40, he attributed their creative fearlessness to the autonomy Lil Wayne and Cash Money allowed them. “We’re afforded all of the creative freedom in the world,” 40 explained. “They really trust us and have from day one. It’s a great feeling to know that me and Drake just get to make music. We don’t really have to clear it with A&Rs or anybody. We are our own A&R’s. We just make it happen, and we take it, say, ‘Hey, look, this is what we did. Let’s put it out.’ ” 40 gave MTV News the inside look at the making of many Take Care songs, including those that shows us another side of Weezy: “HYFR” (produced by T-Minus) “He trusts us enough to take chances; he’ll go there with his raps. Not just getting on the song, but he’ll participate [in the song’s theme]. On ‘HYFR,’ he’ll show that introspective side of himself along with Drake. That’s amazing, and those are some of Wayne’s illest moments, always have been for him. “The Real Her” (produced by 40 and Drake) “Even on ‘The Real Her,’ a lot of people will be like, ‘Nah, nah, I can’t get on that sh–,’ but Wayne will be like, ‘F— that. … I’m going to get on that sh–.’ … I like it.’ And that’s what it is to me. You have to make music with that attitude. We love the music we make.” “Take Care” (produced by Jamie xx and 40) “We’ve always been a fan of Jamie as well as the xx, and we had been to their studio and sat with them prior to this when we were in London last year. We had loved that Gil-Scott [Heron] record, and the remix Jamie had done, and I guess between Oliver and Drake and myself, but specifically Oliver and Drake felt that song never got its shine. ‘Man, what a great record. It never was as big as it should’ve or could’ve been.’ ” “Motto” (produced by T-Minus) “That song was right at the end of the process. That’s one of my favorites. T[-Minus] sent the record to Drake. I think Drake cut it in Vegas, maybe. He cut the vocals, sent it over to me, I gave it to Gadget, Gadget mixed it, sent it to mastering the next morning and got it mastered, on radio 24 hours later.” “Headlines” (produced by Boi-1da and 40) “There’s a couple of things about radio. That’s a catchy song. ‘They know, they know, they know.’ It’s corny, it’s catchy, it’s perfect. That will run on radio all day. You balance with those evils when you make music. I understand what’s going to work on radio as much, sometimes I want to make different types of music. But the thing is, you want to win. You want to have your cake and eat it too.” “Crew Love” (produced by 40, the Weeknd and Illangelo) ” ‘Crew Love’ is just a moment for Drake as far at the content of the record and what was going on around him in life and his people and his team. That was just an important record for him to make, and Weeknd was someone he wanted to include on that.” “The Ride” (produced by Doc McKinney and the Weeknd) “Was really just a vibe. It was a vibe that the Weeknd caught, and it was just so crazy that Drake wanted to rap on it — as simply put as that.” “Underground Kings” (produced by T-Minus and 40) “Sometimes, Drake will have a song title in his head or an idea of what the record is and what he wants it to be and then he’ll search for the beat, and I think he found that beat from T-Minus. It was just a matter of finding a place for the chorus. We got the mix right and the bass sort of eating up any speaker that gets in the way of it.” “Marvin’s Room” (produced by 40) “The honesty is mind blowing. He says things in that record that are like, ‘Whoa, really?’ But that’s shock value, and that’s a great thing to bring to the table. The further it goes, the bigger the smile on my face. I want him to say the craziest sh– you can imagine.” “Buried Alive” (produced 40 and Supa Dups) “I had given it to Drake at some point, because he had asked for it or wanted it. He just sent it to Kendrick [Lamar] at some point. I had no idea. A few days later, he was like, ‘I got this Kendrick verse!’ ‘On what?’ ‘On the beat you did!’ ‘What beat?’ When we listened to it, we loved it.” All week, we’ll bring you highlights from our candid interview with Drake producer Noah “40” Shebib . Be sure to keep it locked here as 40 talks Take Care and his thoughts on everything from working with Lil Wayne to Drizzy’s next single with Rihanna. Casey Anthony Video Diary: Possibly Hacked, Definitely Her

Plenty of questions surround the strange Casey Anthony video diary, which mysteriously surfaced online a day ago, but two things are crystal clear: 1. Everyone’s talking about it, and 2. The whole thing is bizarre. No one seems to know why Anthony would record the thing, but even more strange is the lack of information regarding its release and Casey’s role in that. It almost magically appeared in the Facebook ether without explanation, even by the person who posted it. Even that anonymous person pleads ignorance. Casey Anthony Video Diary The video is taken in mirror image, thus making it harder to pinpoint her location, and the audio cuts in and out throughout, which may indicate editing. Some think it was released by Casey Anthony , unintentionally or intentionally, only to be yanked offline quickly, but not before one person discovered it. Others, chiefly Anthony’s attorney Cheney Mason, feel her computer was broken into by a sophisticated hacker. Mason told the Today Show as much: “If we find out who did it and how they did it, then they are going to be, I hope, answering to state and federal law enforcement agencies,” he said. Meanwhile, the original YouTube poster , who claims he didn’t steal it, spoke to E! News about how he got his hands on it … and is extremely vague. “I checked Facebook one day and I had a message saying, ‘I have some things that you might be interested in and I trust you with it,'” the poster said. He would not reveal his name for obvious reasons. Adding that he was sent the video by an unnamed acquaintance, he says, “They gave me the video because they trusted me with the video and the pictures.” “They knew I would not try and make money off it. And if it did leak onto the Internet, they would be authentic and that they were not fake Caseys.” The poster said before releasing it on YouTube, he blocked out names of specific people Casey mentioned before posting it onto his channel as “unlisted.” Asked why he released the clip at all, the poster said he simply wanted “Casey Anthony supporters to see that the secretive 25-year-old “is happy.” Casey Anthony has supporters? And despite the viral spread of the footage that he made possible, the poster insisted that Casey never intended the video for public consumption. “Casey did not want people to see these videos. Cheney Mason, her lawyer, says that Casey is doing the video diaries as a form of therapy.” “She has nobody. She has her dog and her webcam.” And yes, that was video diaries, plural. The poster confirmed he was in possession of a second video of Casey but does not plan on releasing it. The first video was up for four minutes before, the guy says, the Facebook group The People Against ‘We Support Casey Anthony’ found and reposted it. That is the alleged source of the widespread leak. “I did not mean for this to happen. I wish it would go away,” the poster said. “It snowballed out of control. I feel sorry for her because the media is ripping her and the video apart. They need to let the girl live. I respect the constitution and she was found not guilty.” The poster clarified that he does not know and has never met or been in contact with Casey Anthony, but claimed to know that Anthony has since altered her physical appearance from the blond bob and glasses look she had in the video. Well, that settles that. Raise your hand if this clears it up for you. Hello? Anyone?
