Not all heroes wear capes. But some heroes, it seems, shop at Target. A surveillance video is making the rounds after it shows one seriously creepy dudes snapping upskirt photos of girls … and then paying the price. It was a father, out shopping with his daughter, who noticed what the man was up to and took action. Take a look: On Wednesday, August 1, 29-year-old Jorge A. Ibarra Jr. was arrested. The arrest was over “suspicion of invasion of privacy,” which seems like a major understatement after you watch this video and hear the story of what went down. See, surveillance photos appear to have captured him snapping “upskirt” photos of girls, some of whom were minors, at a Target store in Cypress, California. If you're not familiar, “upskirts” are what they sound like — a man takes pictures up a skirt, hoping for a glimpse at a girl's thighs and underwear and any potential glimpse of their butt or genitals that might come with it. Upskirting is gross, it's predatory, it's a nightmarish invasion of privacy, and, in this case, it will get you tackled in a Target store. Ismael Duarte is the hero of the hour. He was shopping with his 15-year-old daughter on Tuesday, July 1 while Ibarra was allegedly on the prowl. According to Duarte, he noticed that something was odd about Ibarra's behavior. It sounds like it didn't take long before he realized that the man was (allegedly) snapping upskirt photos of unsuspecting women, including his own daughter and another girl. Duarte leapt into action, chasing and tackling Ibarra, who fled the store. “My daughter, and the girl that actually was getting their picture taken without her being known,” Duarte says. “That’s what got me” The surveillance video appears to show Duarte kicking the man's phone away and then chasing the man, confronting him, and perhaps pushing him. The man, later identified as Ibarra (who looks 46 and not 29; we don't know what that's about), flees from Target. Duarte gave chase. Though Ibarra did get away, Duarte was able to snap a photo of the man in his car. Duarte provided his photo and a description of what happened to the police. Though he wishes that he had somehow been able to do more, Duarte says that he did not appreciate Target's security team's inaction during the confrontation. “All they did was stand behind,” Duarte laments. “And that's very disappointing.” Target released a statement, affirming that “the safety and security of our guests is very important to us and we have no tolerance for this behavior in our stores.” “Immediately upon learning of these recent incidents,” Target continues. “Our teams called police to investigate and shared video footage with them.” Target concludes: “We will continue to help law enforcement in any ways that we can be of support to their investigation.” Ibarra was arrested and booked at Orange County jail on $25,000 bail. It may be tempting for some individuals to dismiss upskirt photos as a hobby of perverts. But there are victims — the women involved. There are plenty of moral and legal rationales saying that a person has the right to record video of anything that they can see in a public place (though sharing that video is another matter), but upskirts are not part of public view. That's someone peeking inside someone else's clothing. In this case, it sounds like at least one of the alleged victims was a minor. Good for Duarte and the police for taking action.
We have an official follow-up on the tragic death of L.B. Bonner. As previously detailed to the best of our ability, the former 600-lb Life star was found dead last week in park in Lexington, South Carolina. Initial reports, however, made it unclear just how Bonner passed away, although all signs pointed to suicide and certain outlets said Bonner’s was discovered in a ditch. Thanks to the official coroner’s report, we can now confirm this very sad piece of news: L.B. Bonner died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head . It does still remain unclear, however, just what prompted someone inside Bonner’s home to call 911 because he or she was concerned about the former TLC star’s well-being. This is what led to an officer arriving on the scene and eventually finding Bonner’s corpse. Such a detail is unimportant at this point; there are just so many questions to ponder any time someone commits suicide. Prior to his death, Bonner shared a Facebook message in which he thanked everyone for their support and said he needed to “face his demons.” “I just want to say thank you to everyone who has shown me love and support throughout my journey,” he wrote in this post, adding: “I’ve realized a few things over the last few days and its time that I face my demons head on.” He added, in what effectively served as a suicide note: No matter what you change or the efforts you put forth in life, sometimes you just have to take it on the chin and deal with things your own way. Again, thank y’all so much. Please don’t ever let people you care about not know how you feel… This post served as quite a troubling change from Bonner’s usual presence on Facebook. As evidenced by a message he penned mere days before he killed himself, Bonner often started each morning with an inspiring set of words. In 2013, Bonner lost his leg in a car crash and later turned to food and alcohol to cope with the loss. He weighed 650 pounds at the time he started filming My 600-lb Life. Over the course of his stint on the series, though, the 30-year-old got sober and underwent a lap-band surgery, which led to him losing over 400 pounds. He was considered by viewers and producers to be one of the program’s most impressive success stories. But it was clear, to anyone that paid close attention, that Bonner often struggled with his mental health. In June, he shared a photo of the late Robin Williams (who committed suicide) on Instagram with the saying: “Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be Kind. ALWAYS.” Wrote Bonner as his caption: “This is so true, step out your comfort zone to be kind.” In the wake of his passing, TLC released a statement that read: James “LB” Bonner, who appeared on this past season of My 600-lb Life, has sadly passed away. On the show, viewers saw LB struggle with obesity following a tragic accident that claimed his right leg. Even though he once weighed 650 pounds, LB’s hard work and dedication helped get him in the 200-pound range. His spirit and determination as displayed through his story, quickly made LB a fan-favorite, and family & friends have taken to LB’s Facebook page to commemorate his life. Last month, Ryan Edwards was arrested for the third time in less than 18 months. This time around, local authorities were understandably less confident in Ryan's ability to keep from messing up again, so they held him in police custody for a week. These days, however, he's a free man — for the time being. Ryan is due back in court on August 23, and if he's convicted for his latest probation violation, he could face up to a year in prison. So it's a bit surprising that the usually press-shy Ryan has decided to speak to the media about his legal troubles. His lawyers probably weren't crazy about the decision, but if we've learned anything about Ryan over these past two years, it's that the man is not big on following rules: 1. Hard Times On July 23, Ryan was taken into police custody after being pulled over for speeding. As this was a violation of his probation, he was held without bail. 2. An Unexpected Release While it was expected that he would be held until his court date, Ryan was released from jail in the wee hours of August 2. 3. A Slap on the Wrist To the surprise of many — including, probably, himself — Ryan received a suspended sentence and six months of additional probation for failing a court-ordered drug test earlier this year. But he’s not out of the woods yet … 4. Not Out of the Woods Ryan still has plenty of legal headaches ahead of him. In July, he was taken into custody not only for speeding but for failing to complete his last round of community service. 5. As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Justin Bieber is engaged to Hailey Baldwin . And unlike the many, many other times that the media has claimed Justin is getting engaged, this time it’s the real deal. Yes, Bieber and Baldwin have confirmed their engagement , which means the Summer of Wealthy Early-Twentysomethings Getting Engaged to People They’ve Only Been Dating For a Few Months is in full swing. And it’s just as annoying as it sounds. Naturally, fans have been wondering what Justin’s most famous ex, Selena Gomez, thinks of all this. We’ve heard rumors that Selena is pissed about the engagement , which would certainly make sense. Then again, there also been reports that Gomez is glad to be rid of Bieber for good and actually feels bad for Baldwin. As is so often the case with this sort of thing, it seems that the truth is less interesting than the rumors. According to People magazine — probably the most reliable outlet to report on Selena’s reaction — the singer simply couldn’t care less about the state of Justin’s love life. “They haven’t spoken in months,” a source tells the publication. “She hasn’t been talking about him since they ended things again earlier this year.” Obviously, no one will know for sure what Selena makes of the situation unless she decides to speak out on the matter herself. But this take sounds about right. By most accounts, Selena wasn’t too broken up following her latest split with Justin, and she finally realized they just weren’t right for each other. After the sixth or seventh breakup, you probably stop thinking of the other person as your one and only. Besides, Selena’s career is going better than ever these days, and sources close to the singer says she’s the happiest she’s ever been. She may have experienced a pang of sadness upon realizing the ex she dated longer than anyone else is getting married. But we’re guessing it didn’t last long. Many a season has been telegraphed by The Bachelorette spoilers beforehand, but this one feels a whole lot different for several reasons. Thanks to the nature of the Internet and the (purported) winner himself, we may be witnessing a relationship that was over before it began. If you dig hard enough, Bachelorette spoilers are out there every year, and not that hard to find … but only if you’re so inclined. You typically have to at least go out of your way to visit one of the notable celebrity gossip sites that post this inside information. Not this season. Thanks, ironically, to the show’s increasing popularity with age on social media, keeping secrets a lot is harder for producers. As such, numerous celebrity news sites – including perhaps the biggest of them all in TMZ – revealed the ending very early. Not just rumor-style “spoilers” either. We’re talking about photos that reveal the final rose recipient as none other than (spoiler) … Garrett Yrigoyen. Okay, so what’s the problem? Don’t we often watch the show for the drama and all the twists and turns, even if we know the outcome? Yes, but again, this season is a bit different, because … well, Garrett Yrigoyen has been under intense scrutiny since day one. If you missed the controversy surrounding Garrett’s Instagram activity, the guy “liked” a whole bunch of things that are pretty offensive. We’re talking anti-immigration, fat-shaming, and transphobic memes, and pics suggesting Parkland student David Hogg is a “crisis actor.” Those posts originated from a conservative Instagram account titled MericaSupplyCo, not Garrett, but dude hit the heart icon often. AGAIN, hasn’t this happened before? Aren’t off-screen social media scandals involving contestants almost an annual thing? Yes. But … As was the case last year with Lee Garrett’s racist tweets surfacing before Rachel Lindsay’s season, ABC had to know about it. In Lee’s case, he might have even been cast because of it, knowing it would inflame racial tensions before be was dispatched. Pretty bad if you think about it, but at least the point was for him to be dispatched, be labeled a racist, then beg for forgiveness. In Garrett Yrigoyen’s case, his cringe-worthy likes are a much bigger issue because … he’s not here to get kicked off the show. He received Becca’s first impression rose on the season premiere, a distinction that often goes to eventual final rose winners. Garrett Yrigoyen is also being given very positive, go-the-distance style treatment from the editors in general. Cringe-worthy. After reports of Yrigoyen’s Instagram activity went viral this spring, he went into damage control mode and posted an apology. According to Garrett, he didn’t realize “the power of a mindless double tap,” and said this is “not a true reflection of me and my morals.” Becca, too, came to his defense. Kufrin said all the right things, encouraging the audience to be “open” to every contestant, despite all the noise on social media. She cleverly mentioned that filming the show was great in that it let her get to know the guys “without any added fodder or any distraction.” Sticking to the script, Becca swears she fell in love with two men and people need to watch The Bachelorette to see it all play out. She promises she got to know the “real” Garrett, but seamlessly pivots to the rest of the men and the “journey” as a whole. All of which rings hollow. Becca’s attempts to shield Garrett from backlash – and distance herself from him – are as obvious and desperate as it gets. Will it work in the end? That remains to be seen. Will Bachelor Nation accept this man as her true love, rather than a closeted bigot and misogynist? Can Becca herself reconcile her undoubtedly strong feelings for Garrett with the fact that he’s a racist conspiracy theorist? Well, this is quite disturbing. We never thought we'd write that about a video that features a priest and a baptism… but here we are. Footage of a priest slapping – yes, SLAPPING – a crying baby during a baptism has made its way around the Internet, sparking the sort of outrage you'd expect when, it bears repeating… … there's footage of a PRIEST SLAPPING A CRYING BABY. The YouTube video was initially shared on Reddit with a caption that reads what we just wrote: “A priest slaps an infant during his baptism.” On Reddit, the user wrote: “this happened today in France, I’m really shocked.” Well, yeah! Who would not be?!? In the 43-second video that we've shared above, the unnamed priest is shown holding the child’s tear-filled face as the boy sits in a woman’s arms. We assume this woman is a loved one. The priest looks like he's trying to comfort the young kid… until, in the middle of the video, the man of God is shown slapping the child across his cheek. There's certainly no other way to interpret what we're seeing here. The boy's parents react to this violent act with stunned expressions, as their son starts to scream even more. We then see the priest pulling the child closer as a woman, who appears to be a church official, briefly approaches him. “I saw this video on Facebook and I cried,” wrote one Twitter user in response, adding: “I was filled with anger and sadness. If I was the mother of that baby I wouldn’t hesitate to push or slapped the damn priest back!! I don’t care what he is!!” At one point, the infant struggles in the priest’s arms, prompting a man nearby to forcibly remove the kid from the priest’s arms. It's just weird and wild and disturbing stuff all around. “This child will be traumatized by [priests] now,” wrote another grossed-out social media user. “This is so scary and sickening, that baby knew that’s the devil in disguise,” another added. “That’s no priest.” Watch the controversial footage above.
