The results of the Conde Nast Magazine Death Pool are in, stunningly early: the company announced this morning that it’s folding Gourmet, Cookie , and two bridal magazines, Elegant Bride and Modern Bride . This, then, is the fallout from McKinsey. The company had floated the idea that its turnaround could be accomplished without any magazines going under (if you’re keeping score, Michael Musto’s rumor of five mag deaths beat Keith Kelly’s rumor of zero), but that was always impractical.

No matter how you felt about David Letterman prior to his role in a recent extortion plot , or how you feel about him now that he’s admitted to an affair with a staffer, we can all agree on one thing: The talk show host’s public admission was gripping television. Countless celebrities have been caught in sex scandals; but we can’t recall a single one that sat for 10 minutes in front of the camera and a stunned studio audience – as the host of a comedic program, no less – and divulged the details of his affair in such a manner.

Sans video camera, filmmaker Michael Moore on Tuesday turned his megaphone on the current health care system and those Blue Dog Democrats he claims are “dogging” the health care debate. Moore, an advocate of a single-payer, government-run health care system, called the current setup “cruel,” and said that two-thirds of Americans support a single-payer system and would punish those Democrats who steer the conversation away from that option. “To the Democrats in Congress,” Moore said, “find your spine.
