Donated Kidney Thrown In The Trash At Ohio Hospital Hopefully they fired the broad for doing something as stupid as this… An Ohio nurse accidentally put a kidney in the trash, prompting the University of Toledo Medical Center to suspend its live donor program as it investigates the incident. Doctors tried to resuscitate the kidney, which came from a live donor, but it was rendered unusable. “We cannot fathom the disappointment that those impacted have experienced over the course of the last week. The University cannot begin to express the sorrow that we feel that this unfortunate incident occurred. We apologize sincerely,” Dr. Jeffery P. Gold, University of Toledo chancellor and dean of the College of Medicine, said in a statement. The hospital has voluntarily suspended its live kidney donor program and has placed two nurses on paid administrative leave while it investigates the incident. “[We are] in the process of assessing how this situation occurred and we are committed to ensuring safeguards are put in place to prevent such an incident from ever happening again,” Gold said, adding that the hospital was getting help from experts inside and outside the institution. The University of Toledo Medical Center has performed more than 1,700 renal transplants since it began in 1972, with a 98 percent success rate, according to the hospital. A spokesperson said the transplant program is expected to reopen in the next few weeks. Source
What the hell ever happened to grown folks enjoying sex with other GROWN folks?!? Oklahoma City Mother Sentenced 15 Years For Raping Her Son’s 13-Year-Old Friend A wife, mother and former nurse, accused of sexually abusing one of her son’s classmates is sentenced for the crime. Amy Blose, 38, faced two-dozen criminal counts of rape, sodomy and lewd molestation. Friday a Cleveland County judge sentenced the Norman woman to 15 years behind bars. In court, Blose frequently smiled and giggled. The judge, and several family friends of the victim, criticized her for not showing any remorse for the crime. “It’s heartbreaking she doesn’t take responsibility and stand up and say she’s sorry,” Stephanie Odle said. “It wasn’t about vengeance, it’s about making Amy responsible for her actions,” Angie George said. Blose entered a no contest plea in April. When she’s released from prison, she will have to register as a sex offender. Register as a sex offender??? She’ll be lucky if she gets back out in the streets ALIVE! Source
That swirl love is just so sweet, even if Tiki had to kick a pregnant wife to the curb for it… Tiki Barber and fiancée Traci Lynn Johnson may have postponed their Hamptons nuptials last month, but the couple looked like they couldn’t wait for their honeymoon at the Einstein Emerging Leaders launch party at Three Sixty on Thursday. The pair showed up looking sharp at the TriBeCa benefit for the Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, but they apparently stole off at one point to play doctor themselves. “The two of them spent the first part of the night enjoying sushi, sliders and fresh pasta while mingling with guests and listening to DJ Louie XIV spin,” said a spy. But after an hour of mingling, they slipped away to a private room. “Some staffers went into the room a few different times and saw them deep in conversation on the couch, which then turned into some canoodling in the corner,” said a spy at the fete for 500. “They were there for over an hour!” After their quality time together, the lovebirds emerged to party some more, then headed into the night: “They took the party to where I can only assume would be home,” a spy joked after the couple’s romantic tête-à-tête at the bash, which was stocked with young professionals interested in supporting health-care research. The ex-Giant told us yesterday: “Our good friend Kyle Widrick invited us, and we went to support him. The cause is obviously important, and it was a fun crowd, so we enjoyed it. “Both Traci and I have been burning both ends of the candle, working full-time and getting through charity season, so we stole away to have some quiet time because I hadn’t seen her all day. We actually went back into the party for another hour or so, then [left] because I was wiped.” He added the couple’s wedding plans — moved back from May so Barber’s divorce could be finalized — are “going well, keeping on schedule.” And when we mentioned he and Traci — who rocked a flirty red party dress and strappy heels — were looking smart at the Einstein bash, he quipped, “Traci is always making me look bad because she’s so damn beautiful.” What a cornball! Does Tiki have a job yet? Just asking because these two seem to do nothing but go to charity events and we thought you had to spend money to do that… Check out some photos of Tiki and his homewreckin’ Becky earlier this week at the Annual Casino Jazz Night Benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters Of New York at Cipriani 42nd Street below: Source GettyImages
Dismissing the propaganda-like vision of growth and jobs that is now at the forefront of any and every word from the status-quo seekers that are the European Elite, England’s Nigel Farage notes the hypocrisy of the forthcoming summit’s agenda. The Euro itself was supposed to create growth and jobs and yet it is actively destroying both of those things – more of the same – as the medicine is killing… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : zero hedge Discovery Date : 22/05/2012 16:50 Number of articles : 2
Truuuuuuuuuu! FDA May Approve HIV Pill Truvada For Mass Consumption The first drug shown to prevent HIV infection won the endorsement of a panel of federal advisers Thursday, clearing the way for a landmark approval in the 30-year fight against the virus that causes AIDS. In a series of votes, a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recommended approval of the daily pill Truvada for healthy people who are at high risk of contracting HIV, including gay and bisexual men and heterosexual couples with one HIV-positive partner. The FDA is not required to follow the panel’s advice, though it usually does. A final decision is expected by June 15. Gilead Sciences Inc., based in Foster City, Calif., has marketed Truvada since 2004 as a treatment for people who are infected with the virus. The medication is a combination of two older HIV drugs, Emtriva and Viread. Doctors usually prescribe it as part of a drug cocktail to repress the virus. While panelists ultimately backed Truvada for prevention, Thursday’s 12-hour meeting highlighted a number of concerns created by the first drug to prevent HIV. In particular, the panel debated whether Truvada might lead to reduced use of condoms, the most reliable defense against HIV. The experts also questioned the drug’s effectiveness in women, who have shown much lower rates of protection in studies. Panelists struggled to outline steps that would ensure patients take the pill every day. In clinical trials, patients who didn’t take their medication diligently were not protected, and patients in the real world are even more likely to forget than those in studies. Says one doctor about the controversial drug: “The trouble is adherence, but I don’t think it’s our charge to judge whether people will take the medicine,” said Dr. Tom Giordano of Baylor College of Medicine, who voted in favor of the drug. “I think our charge is to judge whether it works when it’s taken and whether the risks outweigh the benefits.” Once again, this pill is not a “I don’t need no condom baby, I take Truvada” situation. Strapping up will always be the most effective way to prevent the spread of disease, however this drug would definitely be a breakthrough in the fight against HIV/AIDS Source
Geico for the greenery? Do tell… Medicinal Marijuana Growers Can Now Purchase Insurance For Protection Pot is on the top of a lot of minds right now. Oregon’s medical marijuana law has become one of the hottest election issues in Oregon’s attorney general race. Sixteen states and the District of Columbia now have medical marijuana laws. In just Oregon and Washington there are nearly 100,000 medical marijuana patients. Now this once fringe culture has taken another step towards the mainstream – growers and grower cooperatives can now buy insurance policies to protect their crops and marijuana inventories against losses. Insurance agent Dan DeChynne is one of the first to sell the pot policies in Oregon and Southwest Washington. “It covers every kind of possible case; fire, rain, or wind, theft, even raids,” he told KATU On Your Side Investigator Thom Jensen. We met DeChynne outside one of the new store fronts where patients buy medical marijuana insurance in Kalama, Wash. The policy at Releaf Medical Marijuana growers cooperative covers the brick and mortar, but it also protects the pot against losses from bugs, theft, fire and yes, even raids by local or state police. As he pushed a cart loaded with some of Releaf’s potent pain killer and sleep disorder pot called AK-47, manager Nate Hewitt told KATU the insurance protects patients more than anyone. “It’s priceless for me because of the value it is to the patients,” he said. Without the insurance, Hewitt said there are just too many variables that can ruin a marijuana crop or leave then vulnerable to raids and thefts. He said the insurance policies will help restore inventories more quickly after a loss so he can start delivering the medicine to patients. So how popular IS this new Indica insurance??? Michael Aberle of Statewide Insurance in Sacramento said his company underwrites between 3,500 to 4,000 marijuana policies right now. He said the industry cannot protect clients against federal raids because marijuana is still considered a controlled substance at the federal level. If insurance companies reimburse growers for their losses after federal raids, Aberle said, agents and insurance companies could be charged with aiding and abetting a crime. DeChynne said the policies begin at about $1,200 to $2,000 a year with a $5,000 deductible. My, my, how things have changed. How long do you think it will be before the government legalizes the green stuff? Source
SMH: Pop star Michael Jackson caused his own death, a defense witness argued on Saturday. Dr. Paul White said, based on the coroners’ report, that Jackson gave himself the fatal dose of propofol and also gave himself an sedative orally after an original propofol infusion by Dr. Conrad Murray failed to put him to sleep, the Associated Press reported. Murray, Jackson’s personal doctor, is on trial for involuntary manslaughter in the singer’s death. White said that Murray’s original dose would have taken 10-15 minutes to work, giving Jackson ample time to inject himself with more once Murray left the room. That, combined with additional drugs in his body, is what killed him, according to the witness. “It potentially could have lethal consequences,” said White. “… I think the combination effect would be very, very profound.” The prosecution argued last week that Murray gave Jackson as much propofol as he requested, no matter the consequences. Dr. Steven Shafer testified that Jackson would have been groggy from the medicine Murray had already administered – and could not have given himself the drug, according to the AP. He can’t give himself an injection if he’s asleep,” Shafer reportedly said. What do y’all think?? I this a valid argument? Source
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common STD’s today. Most of us are misinformed in terms of how the virus is contracted and who is susceptible to it. There are so many misconceptions about the virus it’s hard to tell the facts from the myths. How much do you know about HPV, and how do you protect yourself from this cervical-cancer causing STD? Our partners at ivillage.com have come up with 10 common HPV myths that will help demystify HPV: Myth #1: Most People Won’t Get HPV Fact: Human papillomaviruses (HPV) is the most common STD in the United States — so common that 80 percent of all sexually active men and women will get it at some point in their life. While it’s true that the more partners you have, the more likely you are to pick up the STD, you can contract HPV during your very first sexual experience, whether you use a condom or not. In fact, 80 percent of people who’ve had as few as four sexual partners have been infected with the virus, according to Nancy Kiviat, M.D., Director of the Medicine Pathology HPV Group at the University of Washington. But most people never show symptoms and may never know they’ve had HPV. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), 90 percent of cases will naturally clear the system within two years. Its hard out here for a female R&B singer these days, but K. Michelle is not sweating it. She has a powerful voice that has the critics comparing her to Mary J. Blige and Keyshia Cole, she takes that as a compliment. The Jive recording artist is gearing up to drop her debut album Pain Medicine , which she says is not just for the ladies but everyone can relate. Don’t let the blue hair fool you, this woman is educated and has many talents to fall back on if singing doesn’t work in her favor. K. Michelle munched on a bag of potato chips while giving me the scoop on beefing with Keyshia Cole, collaborating with her mentor R. Kelly and how becoming a mother in college didn’t stop her from obtaining her degree. I thought I liked K. Michelle before this interview but after, I think I fell in love. She kept it real and I could tell she was just being herself. Get into K. Michelle’s realness below, I am sure you all will enjoy this interview. TUD’s Jazzy F : I’m not even gone waste time, I’m just gone go right in. What’s going on between you and Keyshia Cole? There’s absolutely nothing going on with Keyshia Cole; I don’t know what her problem is with me, but I have no problem with her. I bought every single Keyshia Cole album. She continues to take shots at me, and I continue to turn the other cheek. Because this is how I feel about it: If you’re hot, nobody can take your spot. It is what it is. God gave her that spot; I can’t take it. She has a little boy, I have a little boy. I support her. I have no problem with Keyshia, I want to see her succeed. I love her new record, but the blows being thrown on Twitter have got to stop; we’re two grown women, two black women, and we need to come together. Do you feel pressure from comparisons? No, because I’m a mermaid; I’m not even human. I could not compete with those girls anyway. I don’t feel any pressure at all. You compare me to Keyshia, compare me to Mary — they sold records — great! But at this point I’m just getting my feet wet. I play piano, I love country music, I sing ballads. Half of that, no one has even seen. So they’re only comparing me based on what the label has put out on me and what they see. And I can’t get mad about that. People will compare you in order to be comfortable with letting you in the game. It did kind of anger me, but I had a recent conversation that made me feel better. You went to FAMU on scholarship for yodeling? [giggles and hesitates] Yeah, I got a scholarship for yodeling. It’s a HBCU, so they weren’t used to that. I sang other songs as well, but I yodeled and they gave me a scholarship. Did you have your son when you were in undergrad? Sure did. That’s why when people say they can’t go to college and the can’t finish college, I don’t hear them. I went to class everyday up until I had my baby, and I went back to school a week later. And I graduated on time, in four years. And I had my son, who didn’t ever go to sleep. The very last couple of months of my last year, my mother and father came and got my son because they wanted to make sure that I ended with great grades and everything like that. So I thank God for my parents, because a lot of parents are not going to come a take a newborn. But they came and got him. I couldn’t study or sleep because I had a baby crying. I read that you play the piano, is that something you really enjoy? I love being on stage, wildin out, taking off my shoes and running around, drinking and having a good time, and having to sit behind the piano is a-whole-nother thing. But that is a gift that I do have. I have to really get better about it, because that’s something that touches people as well. Right now, like tonight, I have sit down and really learn “How Many Times” and ‘Today Just Ain’t My Day”; I read sheet music. For me, it wasn’t a given gift; it was something that my mom and dad said I was going to do. But it did help my ear, and it helped me to hear things, when I go in the studio to mimic sounds, it builds my ear for music. How did you link up with R. Kelly? Well actually, I was supposed to sign with him first through Jive, and what ended up happening was I went in the building and Wayne Williams took a great interest in me. And from there, after I signed with Jive, a week later they took me to R. Kelly. How did the relationship form from there? He’s a comedian; he’s hilarious! He either likes you or he doesn’t. So thank God he liked me. And we’ve been friends ever since. Were you nervous? Oh absolutely. Because I had looked up to him for years, and I really wanted to be able to sing different topics. And my label signed me as a female R.Kelly, because he topic I came in singing about was so off the wall. So they were like, “Okay. Now you can meet your idol. And when you go in here, if he doesn’t like you, don’t get your feelings hurt.” I was shaking. But he was so … he was just cool. The first thing he asked me when he saw me was, “Are you a stripper?” Let’s talk about “I Just Can’t Do This,” was this record a real life situation? I was having a bad relationship, as usual. And I was just going through it. R. Kelly called me late one night, because I had talked to him about what I was going through, and he was like, “Yo, I got this song about your situation; it’s a hit.” That’s where the record came from and people still love it, because the record touched a lot of people. “How Many Times” — does it relate to “I Just Can’t Do This”? People think “HMT” is just about a no good man; it’s so much deeper than that. When me and Sean sat down and talked about my life — if you listen to it, basically what I’m saying is how many times do I have to allow myself to go through the same sh*t. Not just with a man, but just in life period, before I say, “It’s time to stop it” and find another way. So it’s not just about how many times did a man do that. The album Pain Medicine — I love the title… Is this album going to be therapeutic for the ladies? Thank you! This album is actually theraputic for everybody. I’m shooting two videos next week. Another song on the album is called “Today Just Ain’t My Day”; that’s not a gender based record. it’s just basically a record saying what I’m going through and why I’m having a bad day. This album is going to relate to everyone and their life issues. I’d like to say the album is about life, not about men. Who will you be Collaborating with on the album? R.Kelly is on a banger. I’m trying to get Pink on the record as well. How do you feel about the current state of R&B? I don’t like how it’s difficult to get R&B played on the radio. I don’t like the fact that R&B suffers a lot and fails. But I do love the R&B artists that are out. I absolutely love Jazmine Sullivan. She embodies beautiful R&B. I love Melanie Fiona. I love Marsha. I think there are some really gifted artists right now in R&B, and they excite me; they make me happy to be their peer. And I’m happy with where R&B is, not the politics of R&B, but the actual music in R&B, I’m very happy with. Recent Post: K.
