BuyBlack Google Extension Will Help You Find Common Items From Black-Owned Companies

One of the major complaints Black shoppers who want to buy from Black businesses have is that they just can’t find Black-owned businesses. But now a new Google Chrome Extension aims to help consumers find Black businesses easy. BuyBlack was created by Angie Coleman, an account manager at San Francisco-based CodeHS, and it lists Black-owned alternatives to online shoppers’ favorite retail sites. Here’s how it works: Users install the app then a Black solidarity fist appears in the corner of their browsers, which then expands into a drop down list of sites from Black-owned businesses with similar product offerings whenever they search for items online. There are products and services ranging from makeup and clothing to home goods, art, vacation rentals, food, and more. Currently, more than 300 businesses can be found on BuyBlack… [ MadameNoire ] No Black Women Are In Top 10 On List Of Highest-Paid Actresses Mo’Nique has complained about the Black women pay gap in Hollywood countless times and people painted her as a troublemaker. Chris Rock even came out and claimed that Black women get paid less than everybody in Hollywood. He said, “Black women have the hardest gig in show business. You hear Jennifer Lawrence complaining about getting paid less because she’s a woman — if she was Black, she’d really have something to complain about.” Now here is evidence that is hard to refute. A new list from Forbes shows that the highest paid actresses make much less than actors, but Black actresses don’t even get in the top 10. Jennifer Lawrence landed in the top spot for a second year in a row, pulling in $46 million in the year from June 1, 2015 to June 1, 2016… [ MadameNoire ] #BlackLeadMatters: NYT Op-Ed On Lead Poisoning Brings Out The Racists A columnist for the New York Times penned an opinion piece titled “Black Lead Matters” which aims at the lead industry’s carelessness in eliminating the instances of lead poisoning. The op-ed also makes mention that Black communities have largely been struck with the issue, which has sparked a robust conversation on Twitter Friday morning. Paul Krugman’s piece isn’t especially about the issues in Flint, Mich. or the truth that many inner-city dwellings still have issues with lead. Instead, it focuses on the lead poisoning policies of presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, both of whom have not made the issue a central focus of the race. Selena Gomez: Lying About Drug Abuse, Rehab?!

Selena Gomez may be trying to pin her latest bout of personal problems on her ongoing battle with Lupus, but insiders are crying foul. The newly (again) rehabbed singer, despite what she tells the public regarding her health, “is full of s–t,” according to a source close to her. “It is terrible that she has Lupus,” says the insider, speaking to Radar Online , “but she is using this as an excuse for everything lately.” “The truth is that she is just a mess right now.” “She’s been feeling completely alone lately.” Lupus, for the uninformed, a chronic inflammatory disease occurring when the body’s immune system attacks its own organs and tissues. Selena’s battle with Lupus is well documented, but whether or not it has anything to do with her obvious struggles this year is debatable. The murder of Christina Grimmie , her close friend, in June reportedly threw her for a loop, as it did many close to The Voice standout. In Gomez’s case, though, it took a major toll. The shooting in Orlando reportedly sent her “spiraling” into drug abuse , something she is sadly familiar with during periods of her past. She’s yet to emerge from that spiral, in fact. An insider revealed that Gomez had begun using a potentially deadly prescription cocktail of “Lunesta, Ambien, Klonopin and Xanax.” Fortunately, her friends and family were able to get through to her, staging desperate intervention and getting her checked into rehab. “Everyone close to her is worried because she seems to be back to old behavior,” said the source of Gomez, who also went to rehab in 2014. Christina Grimmie and Selena Gomez Promo The announcement that Gomez is taking time off due to anxiety and panic attacks came earlier this week, with Lupus cited as a factor. “As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” Gomez said. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges.” Gomez has been traveling for on her Revival world tour over the past couple of months, and clearly on the verge of a mental breakdown . The 24-year-old’s statement continued: Selena Gomez Breaks Down in Concert Over Christina Grimmie “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.” “Thank you to all my fans for your support.” “You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best.” “I know I am not alone by sharing this,” she concluded, and “I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.” Gomez’s camp insists that the decision to take time off and focus on her health has nothing at all to do with substance abuse. Whatever the reason, there’s little doubt that the oft-troubled singer-actress hasn’t been feeling like herself since the summer began. Selena Gomez Breaks Down in Concert One Gomez source spun it as thus: “She decided to clear her calendar for the year [so this is] her priority for future happiness and didn’t want to leave any promoters at bay.” “[Selena] feels relieved that she can now make more sense of why she was feeling the way she was and is optimistic about the future.” Hopefully it helps her, whatever it is that ails her, because we don’t need to see her breaking down on stage like a basket case anymore. We just want her to get well, and soon. The sooner Selena can return to her talented self and start doing her thing – and not mixing it up with that douche Justin – the better.

Kate Gosselin: Destroyed By Fans For Abusing, Exploiting Collin!

Kate Gosselin says her troubled son, Collin, has been sent away from home to treat “special needs” … and fans are far from pleased. Obviously, Collin’s personal situation has sparked debate and sympathy from the public, as no one likes to see an adolescent struggle. The 41-year-old single mom’s conduct – past and present – has come under heavy scrutiny, however, as it pertains to the child. Kate’s Instagram post promoting her People cover story, which featured all the kids but Collin, has quite the collection of harsh comments. Followers have lashed out, accusing her of exploiting her 12-year-old son’s issues for her own personal gain – nothing new for Kate. Kate Gosselin: Collin Has Special Needs, is Away Getting Help to “Reach Full Potential” “Shame on you for being so desperate for attention that you disclose this information about your beautiful boy!” one fellow mom wrote. “There is no low too low for you,” another opined. “Colin,” the fan said, “deserves better from you.” Damn, that’s rough, but after Kate admitted spanking Collin and being “too rough” on him in an attempt to deal with his personal issues? Well, fans are even more pissed. “I can’t help but think, one day Collin will read about himself on the Internet, and really think there’s something wrong with him,” says a fan. Collin has reportedly been undergoing care for at least one month at a Philadelphia-area facility nearly two hours from the family home. “[There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things,” she said. “This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own. I’ve felt very alone in this.” “By the same token, it’s not something that has only impacted me or him … our entire family has been impacted [by this].”  Meanwhile, a source close to the children’s father, Jon Gosselin, says he’s furious at the reality star for taking their son’s problems public. “Jon can’t believe that Kate is talking about this for the cover of a magazine,” the insider said. “Collin is just a kid, and deserves his privacy.” Jon is also beside himself that  his daughters called him a deadbeat in the interview, but that’s a whole different story for another time. According to the book, Kate acknowledged being “too rough” with Collin when he was as little as two years old and wouldn’t obey her. “I feel so guilty that I treated him like that,” she wrote, of disciplining him harshly in 2006. “I will set out tomorrow to be a better mommy.” In January 2007, when Collin knocked over a high chair and spilled a bag of beans, Kate wrote in her diary that she flew into a rage. “I was instantly so SO angry, that I grabbed him and spanked him as hard as I could and thought I may seriously injure him,” she wrote. “So I sent him to his crib til Jon came home!” she wrote. “I have never felt that I may seriously injure a child but today was that day!” View Slideshow: 23 Infamous Kate Gosselin Scandals Kate says she noticed Collin’s temper, and observed that she did not like “that he doesn’t know how to handle his frustration and anger.”  Fast forward ten years, and here we are. It May Soon Be Illegal For Employees To Ask Your Salary History

… The movement started in Massachusetts, where employers are not prohibited to ask such questions, and this may become the trend across the country. “A trio of legislators announced this week they will introduce a bill that will prohibit employers from asking job-seekers about their salary history before making a job offer,” reported Glamour. Among the bill’s sponsors are Representatives Eleanor Holmes Norton, Rosa DeLauro, and Jerrold Nadler… One of the reasons legislators want this to happen is because some experts say that requesting someone’s salary history before making a job offer only perpetuates the wage gap. “Because many employers set wages based on an applicant’s previous salary, workers from historically disadvantaged groups often start out behind their white male counterparts in salary negotiations and never catch up,” the announcement states. [ MadameNoire ] “The Cupboard Is Bare”… CDC Director Says There’s No More Money In The Zika Fund As Zika virus transmissions become more rampant in the United States, the CDC shared some unfortunate news about how they (probably) won’t be able to help those who become infected in the near future. At a press conference this past Tuesday, CDC’s director Dr. Thomas Frieden told reporters, “the cupboard is bare.” “Basically, we are out of money and we need Congress to act,” he shared. Despite the severity of this news, our congressmen and women have been on summer vacation for seven weeks. They return back to work next Tuesday but until they do, Federal agencies are not allowed to spend or receive new money unless Congress gives them the green light. Since Dr. Frieden revealed the lack of money the CDC has to help treat the virus, three new cases were reported in Florida. Rest In Peace: Mexican Superstar Singer-Songwriter Juan Gabriel Dead At The Age Of 66

Mexican Superstar Singer-Songwriter Juan Gabriel Dead At The Age Of 66 Mexican superstar Juan Gabriel has passed away after entertaining generations of people for years according to NPR reports Juan Gabriel, a singular superstar who transcended borders and the trappings of gender with meticulously crafted pop songs and a flamboyant showmanship that earned the nickname the “divo of Juarez,” has died, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Juan Gabriel was 66 years old and he was found at a residence in Santa Monica with no apparent foul play. Mexican President Enrique Peña-Nieto tweeted his condolences calling him one of the country’s “greatest musical icons.” “His music is a legacy for the world,” Peña Nieto said. “He has left us too soon. May he rest in peace.” Juan Gabriel wrote pop songs and rock songs. He sang with mariachis and full-blown orchestras, producing dozens of hits. Other artists recorded his songs and on occasion he recorded theirs. He recently covered Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Have You Ever Seen the Rain. Juan Manuel Caipo, who produced that album, said it showed what a chameleon the singer-songwriter was. Caipo says in that sense Juan Gabriel was a lot like Prince. Things have gone from bad to worse for Rob Kardashian and his pregnant fiancee, Blac Chyna. Not only have they been fighting ever since their reality show, Rob & Chyna started filming, but now they’re sleeping in separate bedrooms . According to Radar Online , Chyna is entering her third trimester, which means that she’s getting more uncomfortable and is likely finding it hard to sleep through the night. “Blac is getting up several times a night right now and Rob cannot take it anymore,” a source told the site. “Every time she gets up, Rob thinks that something is wrong because he is a total hypochondriac.” All this worrying is really throwing Kardashian off his REM cycle. “She is just really pregnant right now and Rob wants his sleep!” For those of you who haven’t been Keeping Up With Rob Kardashian (I had to), you’re aware that he kind of acts like a baby from time to time. “Blac Chyna cannot play mommy to Rob right now because the roles have reversed and he is taking care of her,” the source added. Can’t Hold Her Down: Gabby Douglas To Judge Miss America Pageant

Despite all the people talking smack from their couches, the world is still very much in love with Gabby Douglas. And the opportunities for this young woman keep rolling in. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Olympic gymnast will join the judges’ panel for the 2017 Miss America Pageant. The Miss America Organization, Dick Clark Productions and ABC said that the athlete would also be joined by singer Laura Marano for the September 11 event. Douglas, who will sit with Sara Foster of “Barely Famous”, singer-songwriter Cole Swindell, and former Miss America Sharlene Wells Hawkes, will be the only judge of color on the panel.
