She has already successfully created one of the best and most popular shows on TV with Insecure and now Issa Rae is teaming up with HBO once again to give us a new show that is set in everyone’s favorite decade—the ‘90s. Source: Alberto E. Rodriguez / Getty As Insecure begins the early stages of its upcoming third season, series star, writer and creator Issa Rae is keeping herself pretty busy with a host of new projects, including the just-announced new drama series she has in the works with HBO. According to Shadow and Act , the currently untitled project is a drama series based in Los Angeles and set in the ‘90s. That premise alone is enough to get fans salivating at what’s to come, especially considering Rae’s deep affection for both the ‘90s and her L.A. hometown. The general synopsis of the future series offers a peak at what life was like for a black family in ‘90s L.A.: Issa Rae is developing a drama set in Los Angeles in the early and turbulent 1990s, centering on a black family “dealing with events of the era.” The description continues, “Bridging those later Reagan Era and early Clinton years, the drama will center on the marriage of Sheryl and Jackson, with the former an envelope bounds pushing real estate agent and the latter conflicted LAPD anti-gang task force recruit. The potential series will also feature the couple’s teen daughter and son, Ebony and Les.” Rae will also executive produce the series along with The Turner House author Angela Flournoy, who will also serve as a writer on the project. Speaking to the press about the new HBO series and working with Flournoy, Rae expressed her excitement saying, “I’m so thrilled to be working with Angela. I was a huge fan of The Turner House and we feel so lucky to bring her beautiful storytelling to HBO.” Check out today’s Top Stories here: Will Mary J. It’s downright shocking and sad that a movie about the devastating Flint, Michigan water crisis is here before the residents have clean and safe water available to them. Nevertheless, Lifetime’s new film Flint, which stars Queen Latifah and Jill Scott, and is based on Josh Sanburn’s February 2016 cover story for TIME magazine, “The Poisoning of an American City,” has just released its official trailer. LeeAnne Walters (Brandt), Melissa Mays (Ireland) and Nayyirah Shariff (Scott) join forces after discovering that the drinking water in Flint, Michigan is contaminated, resulting in a slew of devastating medical problems for their families. When their claims go unheeded, they band together to expose the wrongdoings committed by their reckless, bean-counting government officials whose carelessness caused irrevocable harm to the lives of its residents. At press time, there has been no word if some or all of the film’s proceeds will go to aiding the victims of the Flint water crisis. Hopefully doing so is in Lifetime’s plans because it would be completely self-serving to make a movie about this tragedy and not try to help at all financially. Source: Josh Brasted / Getty In the past couple of years, Kendrick Lamar has grown from one of the hottest up-and-coming rappers into an undeniable household name. It all started in the streets of Compton, and though Lamar had a few well-received projects preceding it, his major label debut good kid, m.A.A.d city is what let the world know that Kendrick was here to stay. The argument about classics in hip-hop is probably the most ubiquitous conversation in the world of music fans, but this album makes a great case for being one of the newest projects to reach the status of an undisputed classic. October 22nd marks the 5 year anniversary of good kid, m.A.A.d city , which made it a day for both celebration and reflection on what fans were going through when the album was first released. Whether it’s the community showing off their tribute tattoos or telling stories about listening in their dorm rooms as a college freshman, everyone was getting in on the fun of sharing the importance this album had on their lives. Top Dawg Ent President Punch was reminiscing with fans as they sent him some of their nostalgic memories from 5 years back, and he also shared some stories about a would-have-been Andre 3000 verse on the album. Check out some of the tweets where fans think back on how much of an impact good kid, m.A.A.d city has had on their lives in just 5 short years. Yo, how is everyone? Source: Joseph Okpako / Getty Jose Guapo, also known as the Million Dollar Kidd is a recording artist from Zone 3, Atlanta, Georgia known for his lingo, dance moves (dab), and style. He usually cranks out a smash hit record every summer such as “Fck The Rap Game”, “Run It Up” & “My Partna Dem” (Rich Kidz). Although he has an extensive resume including features with every major rapper in the industry, Jose Guapo is extremely underrated yet feels that he is more relevant than most 1 hit wonder artists such as YC. “It’s not a question that I’m underrated & I don’t get the credit I deserve, somebody tryna’ blackball me”. Although he labels Gucci Mane as the Trap God, and Future the GOAT, Jose Guapo credits T.I. as the innovator of trap music and admits that Gucci may be interested in signing him to 1017 Eskimo Records. Jose Guapo also gave his opinion on mumble rap and mentioned that Young Thug is the only artist who he would consider a mumble rapper and has no issues understanding other rappers such as Migos, Future, & Lil Uzi Vert who are usually thought of as mumble rappers. Lastly, Jose Guapo opened up about his frustrations with the music industry and addresses past beefs with 2 Chainz & Young Dro. Guapo wants his fans to know he is more mature and that real men cry.
