When I first saw these pictures of Maitland Ward at the beach, the name sounded sort of familiar, but I wasn’t sure why. Which is weird, because I thought I knew just about every busty hottie out there who would do something attention-seeking like staging bikini candids playing with a hula hoop. Anyway, turns out Maitland used to be on Boy Meets World , but now she’s all grown-up. And if she’s this desperate for a new gig, I’d be happy to hire her to show off her special talents at the Tuna offices. I have a feeling it’d be great for my morale. Photos: WENN.com
Girl Meets World is officially heading to the Disney Channel. The wildly anticipated Boy Meets World spinoff will premiere in 2014, the network announced today, via press release, with executive producer Michael Jacobs saying in a statement: “Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular.” The new series will star Rowan Blanchard as Riley Matthews, the teenage daughter of Cory and Topanga, to be played by a returning Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, respectively. It will be set in New York City, with Cory teaching history at his daughter’s school and Topanga running a pudding shop. According to the official Disney Channel synopsis, the sitcom will follow Riley and her quick-witted friend Maya (played by Sabrina Carpenter) as they “embark on an unforgettable middle school experience.” Look for Rider Strong to maybe guest star on the program, while Teo Halm will play Elliott, Cory and Topanga’s son. We’re most definitely in. Are you?
Rider Strong will not be a part of the Boy Meets World spinoff, but Sabrina Carpenter has been cast on Girl Meets World as its Shawn equivalent. The 13-year-old, perhaps best known for her voice acting role on Sofia the First , will portray Maya Fox on the highly-anticipated Girl Meets World . Maya is the best friend of Riley Matthews, the teenage daughter of Cory and Topanga (Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel), who are now married. Rowan Blanchard was recently cast as series lead Riley. The Girl Meets World pilot officially starts shooting next month, and it seems like a foregone conclusion that Disney Channel will fast-track it to series. Excited for the Boy Meets World spinoff? Yes! I used to love that show! Yes, I bet Topanga is even hotter now! The hell is Boy Meets World?! View Poll »
Rider Strong of Boy Meets World fame has become a man. So to speak. He’s engaged to longtime girlfriend Alexandra Barreto, E! News reports! Strong proposed , his rep said, “with a handmade ring he created himself.” The actor (and jeweler, somehow) first met Barreto on the 2006 series Pepper Dennis , then also worked together on a campaign video for President Obama. The rest was history. Strong recently said he will not be a main player on Girl Meets World , the Boy Meets World spinoff starring Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel. “At this point, I have no official involvement,” he said. “There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years.” That’s too bad, but there’s always hope for a cameo from Shawn Hunter down the line. In related news … Danielle Fishel is engaged too! The gang’s growing up!
Girl Meets Engagement Ring and College Diploma. Danielle Fishel is officially a college graduate, the 31-year-old Boy Meets World turned Girls Meets World star revealed this week via her Tumblr page. She also got engaged recently, she confirmed! “Yeah, I’m super proud of myself :)” she said. As well she should be. Fishel returned to college at age 27, noting that she tried to do so several times but “could never follow through and actually go.” “I was too afraid of being the old lady in class, being whispered about, and especially of not remembering how to do simple math equations,” she says. “After my 27th birthday, I made the decision to stop letting fear be a factor in fulfilling my dreams, so with a little encouragement from friends and family, I enrolled. And I went.” Now she’s a college grad – and rocking a huge engagement ring (and a beer) like a BOSS in the photo above. So who’s the lucky guy who put a ring on it? “I persevered and sometimes I wasn’t the oldest person in class, some of the whisperers became good friends, and I did so well in math, I even became a tutor,” she adds. “And that is how I met my fiancé. :)” Interesting! And congratulations! As you’ve likely heard, Fishel is now shooting a pilot for Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World , which will reunite her with Ben Savage as Topanga and Cory Matthews. More than a decade after the end of Boy Meets World, the show will be told from the perspective of Cory and Topanga’s teenage daughter, Riley.
George Zimmerman has filed a lawsuit against NBC over the way the network edited and played a 911 call following the shooting of Trayvon Martin in February. Zimmerman claims NBC made him look like a “hostile racist.” Trayvon Martin 911 Call NBC launched an internal investigation over the Trayvon Martin 911 call after it aired the recording, which featured Zimmerman quotes outside of their original context. The tape played on the air made it sound like Zimmerman immediately told police that Martin, who he says he shot in self-defense, was black, without being prompted. In actuality, the full George Zimmerman 911 call reveals he only said Martin “looks black” when responding to a question from the dispatcher about Trayvon’s race. Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder , accuses NBC of creating a “false and defamatory misimpression using the oldest form of yellow journalism.” He cites the recording above as proof of this allegation. NBC, his lawyer says, ” manipulated Zimmerman’s words , splicing together disparate parts of the recording to create the illusion of statements that he never actually made.” Whether a judge and/or jury agree remains to be seen. Free on bail and using autograph sales to raise cash, the 28-year-old suing for unspecified damages, citing defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Zimmerman, a former neighborhood watch coordinator for his gated community in Sanford, Florida, fatally shot the 17-year-old Martin on February 26. He has claimed the shooting was in self-defense. His supporters have long held that he is a victim of media bias in the case that became a sensational national obsession, and should be exonerated.
As you’ve likely heard (and gotten really excited about if you watched TV from 1993-2000), Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will star in a Boy Meets World spinoff . The new series, Girl Meets World , will air on the Disney Channel and be told from the perspective of Cory and Topanga Mattews’ teenage daughter, Riley. Ben (Cory) recently spoke about the new show for the first time. “We’re going to wait and see what happens,” he told Rolling Stone about more returning characters. “Obviously, I don’t want to give away too many details.” “But there’s definitely been discussions about some of everyone’s favorite characters popping up [on Girl Meets World ] and making appearances.” Rider Strong , who played Cory’s best friend Shawn, is reportedly not involved with the new show, at least on a series regular basis. Casting is still underway. Savage says it was a long process getting even to this point. “It was just a matter of making sure all of us were on the same page about what we were going to do in terms of hopefully making the show last another seven years,” he said. “There were different options… but it just seems a little poetic that we’re coming back 13 years later and it’s following our daughter’s character. I like that concept.” “It’s kind of passing it off to the next generation.” Ben’s statement on Girl Meets World echoes that of Danielle Fishel (Topanga), who said she would not have signed on if the spinoff weren’t strong on its own merit. “We want to do justice to the characters, and we want to make sure we respect people’s memories of the show,” the 32-year-old actor assures fans. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure that this is going to be something special and funny, and hopefully it’ll make new memories for a new generation.” Filming is set to begin in February.
