Melanie Fiona Hits The Stage At The Global Fusion Festival In Philly [VIDEOS]

Read the original here:

Melanie Fiona is back in full force as she hit the stage yesterday at the fifth anniversary of the Global Fusion Festival in Philadelphia. This festival is the largest one-day ethnic festival in Philly, and is held at Penn Landing. Produced by the Multicultural Affairs Congress, the festival features drink specials, give-aways, ethnic foods, ethnic dancing and many more. Among the performers of this year’s festival were Estelle, Anthony David, Maino, and Meek Millz. I had the opportunity to attend the festival this year and was blown away by how many people came out to support! Melanie Fiona was by far my favorite performer and kept the crowd rocking in the sweltering heat with her hit singles, “It Kills Me”, “Give It To Me Right” and many more. Nicki Minaj to Judge The X-Factor?

Will X mark the judging spot for Nicki Minaj? Insiders tell The New York Post that Simon Cowell has met with this hip hop star about coming on board The X-Factor this fall as a judge. She would join recently-announced producer L.A. Reid on the panel if she agreed to make the move. “Simon thinks Nicki is fantastic. She’s sassy, she looks great and she has bags of personality,” a source tells the newspaper . “Nicki has a large following and she fits well with the ethos of the show, which plans to usher in a new generation of musical talent.” Auditions for The X-Factor kick off on March 27. This would be an unusual gig for Minaj to accept, considering her current popularity. Most singers join a reality show to revive a career (see Aguilera, Christina on The Voice and Lopez, Jennifer on American Idol ). Other names under consideration include Tommy Mottola, Nicole Scherzinger and Cheryl Cole . [Photo: Pacific Coast News]

Chris Brown Hopes to Sell a Million Albums This Week

He admits its a stretch, but Chris Brown says he hopes his new album F.A.M.E. , which drops tomorrow, sells a million copies in its first week of release. “I wouldn’t consider it jinxing myself, but I always dream big,” he said . “I would love to do like a mill the first week, honestly. And that’s really pushing, and I know that’s pushing, but I’m happy with anything I sell.” “If I sell 100,000 like last time, I’m cool. My last album, Graffiti , was only 100,000 the first week, but it was a lot more added to it back then.” Brown says these are more optimistic times for him, saying “right now it’s a more comfortable position. People are accepting the music now.” “I would love to just solidify that, as much as ya’ll wanna keep talking about stuff, bringing stuff up, ya’ll can’t stop (me and) my music.” “A handful of people stuck by me,” Chris said, referring to the Rihanna scandal and the two-year backlash he’s endured, rightfully or not. “But when [most] people see certain things happen to somebody, they turn away . They don’t want their name attached to anything negative.” [Photo: Fame Pictures]

Melanie Brown: Pregnant Again!

Congratulations are in order for Melanie Brown and Stephen Belafonte. The couple is expecting its first child this year. Sources say the former Spice Girl will give birth to her third baby this summer. She has a 12-year-old daughter named Phoenix and a three-year-old daughter named Iris from previous relationships. “We’re really thrilled,” Brown told Great Britain’s Hello Magazine . “We wouldn’t have planned and waited for four years to have a baby if we weren’t excited and ready for it.” Interestingly, Brown’s former singing pals, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham, are also pregnant. Forget “zigazig ha.” Looks like what these women want, what they really, really want, is to have a family. [Photo: Pacific Coast News]

The Roots And John Legend’s Wake Up! Track List Revealed

Tracks from Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway will be covered on the upcoming album. By Mawuse Ziegbe The Roots and John Legend Photo: Bryan Bedder/ Getty Images The Roots and John Legend will revive a host of soulful songs on their upcoming collection of covers, Wake Up!, which is due in stores in September. The track list — which was revealed by Rap-Up.com on Monday (July 12) — includes 11 songs, and Chicago MC Common and Grammy-nominated songstress Melanie Fiona make appearances on the album. Wake Up! revisits songs such as “Little Ghetto Boy” by Donny Hathaway, “Wholy Holy” by Marvin Gaye and “Hard Times” by Baby Huey and the Babysitters. Although the album is a collection of vintage tracks, Legend said the timeless lyricism has a contemporary appeal. “These songs sound so relevant now,” Legend said in a statement. “On most of them, you wouldn’t change a lyric. ‘Wake Up Everybody’ (the album’s first single, featuring contributions from Melanie Fiona and Common) has four verses — the first one is a general statement, the second is about education, third is about health care, and the fourth is about making a better environment. No editing needed.” Roots drummer ?uestlove and Legend also recently spoke to MTV News about their cover of Ernie Hines’ “Our Generation” and its connection to a classic hip-hop track. ” ‘Straighten It Out’ [by] Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth was an important hip-hop record and it sampled ‘Our Generation,’ ” Legend said. On Wake Up! , Legend said he and the Philly collective strived to spotlight songs that could be incorporated into a hip-hop record. “A lot of what we did was try to bring songs that have been sampled or should be sampled or sample-able to make the album,” he said. Legend also said that another upside of working on the album with the group he has been following since college is having access to ?uest’s extensive musical knowledge. “He just knows a lot of great records,” Legend said. “When you’re thinking about putting an album together of songs that were performed [more than] 40 to 50 years ago, he’s one of the best people to talk about that with.” The Roots and John Legend’s “Wake Up!” track list, according to Rap-Up.com: 1. “Compared to What” 2. “Hard Times” 3. “Little Ghetto Boy” 4. “Wake Up Everybody” (featuring Common and Melanie Fiona) 5. “Our Generation” 6. “Love the Way It Should Be” 7. “Hang On in There” 8. “I Can’t Write Left Handed” 9. “Wholy Holy” 10. “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free” 11. “Shine” Are you looking forward to Legend and the Roots’ joint album?
