Whitney Houston’s Final Performance: Watch Now

‘I wasn’t expecting Whitney to take the stage, but she came up,’ friend and R&B singer Kelly Price tells MTV News before Houston was found dead. By Kelley L. Carter, with reporting by Kelly Marino Whitney Houston and Kelly Price perform in Los Angeles on Thursday Photo: Gabriel Olsen/FilmMagic Saturday morning (February 11) at a pre-Grammy brunch, R&B singer Kelly Price talked up her friend and collaborator Whitney Houston , telling MTV News that reports of her friend being anything but OK were erroneous. Later that afternoon, her friend had died at age 48 . “I honestly don’t know what all the craziness is about,” Price told us at the time. “We partied so hard, we all looked a mess when we walked out of the club. But that’s a good party. You sweat. You do that.” Price was talking about another pre-Grammy event in her honor, where Houston had performed Thursday night. MTV News has obtained exclusive video from that performance, reported to be Houston’s last. “When I was approached about doing a Grammy celebration party for me, I actually said I would love to do it,” Price told MTV News about Thursday’s event. “I invited a bunch of friends, Whitney Houston among them. … All of my friends came out. They performed. They performed for free. It was an amazing night. My band was there. It ended up being an all-out jam session.” Price continued, “I wasn’t expecting Whitney to take the stage, but she came up. She got on the stage, and while I was talking to her, she grabbed the microphone and started singing. So that’s kind of cool.” Tragically, Houston was found dead later Saturday. She was reportedly found at the Beverly Hilton, where a party thrown by her mentor, Clive Davis, is planned for Saturday night. Join us for an hour-long musical tribute to Whitney Houston, Saturday night at 11:30 on MTV. Share your condolences with Whitney’s family and friends on our Facebook page . Rachel Crow Breaks Down After Elimination On “The X-Factor USA” [RECAP]

View original post here:

Last night was an emotional episode of “The X-Factor USA” as one of our favorite contestants, Rachel Crow, was eliminated. Upon receiving news of getting the boot off the show, the 13 year old broke down and cried her eyes out, which I’m almost positive made everyone at home shed a tear or two, including myself.  Rachel broke down on the stage, and was picked up by her mentor, Simon Cowell as she screamed for her mother causing America to point the finger at Nicole who left Rachel’s fate in America’s hands.  Check out a video of Rachel’s elimination below. Rachel’s a super star and I’m sure that we will be seeing more of her in the future! Because of Rachel’s elimination, Marcus Canty was saved to move on to the next round. Both Marcus and Rachel received a ton of support from their Twitter followers who encouraged them both to keep their heads up! The competition is heating up!! Who do you want to win??

Zac Efron, Jessica Biel, More Hit ‘New Year’s Eve’ Debut

‘You’re hungry, you’re like, ‘My back’s sore,’ ‘ Biel jokes to MTV News of symptoms of wearing a baby bump in Gary Marshall flick. By Christina Garibaldi Zac Efron Photo: MTV News On Wednesday, the cast of “New Year’s Eve,” Gary Marshall’s latest ensemble flick, gathered at New York City’s Ziegfeld Theatre for a Tribeca Film Institute benefit in celebration of the star-studded film’s release. The follow-up to the director’s box-office hit “Valentine’s Day” has a similar theme: multiple plotlines told in a series of vignettes. MTV News hit the black carpet, where we caught up with castmembers, including Zac Efron, who revealed to us that veteran actress Michelle Pfeiffer had a lot to do with convincing him to take on the part. “It was great,” Efron told MTV News of working with Pfeiffer. “I remember the first time I met her was on ‘Hairspray,’ and she’s Michelle Pfeiffer — she had that aura, star aura — so I was always very nervous around her; [she’s] very beautiful. “We never really got the chance to connect on that movie,” he explained of the 2007 musical. “So on this film, I remember I got a voicemail from her, and she said, ‘Look, I would love to do this if you want to do it, and I want to take it to the next level.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m in 1,000 percent, and I love you so much, thank you so much for that voicemail. I can’t wait, let’s do it!’ And here we are. It was a dream come true.” And Marshall seems to have made another dream come true for young actor Jake T. Austin, who has his first big-screen kiss in the flick with co-star Abigail Breslin. “We met each other hours before,” Austin told us. “It was more like, ‘Hi, nice to meet you, you ready?’ But it was not that awkward, it was cool.” “It wasn’t that awkward because we kinda didn’t treat it like a big deal,” Breslin added. “He was very sweet, he was a gentleman. It all went well. We just kinda treated it like it was no big deal.” Jessica Biel also hit the black carpet in a stunning, shimmery Valentino gown, a far different look than what she sports in the movie. “I actually kind of enjoyed it,” Biel said of wearing a baby bump for her pregnant character. “It was a strange thing. I didn’t think I was going to feel as comfortable as I did with it. When you put that thing on, you start to rock with it: You’re rubbing it. You’re like, ‘Wow this is not so bad after all.’ You’re hungry, you’re like, ‘My back’s sore’ — no, its not, you’re faking it — but you still feel that these symptoms are happening to you, it just felt really natural.” Will you see “New Year’s Eve”? ‘X Factor’: Rachel Crow Breaks Down After Elimination

While Marcus Canty landed in the bottom two for the third straight week, it was the 13-year-old songbird who got the lowest number of votes. By Adam Graham Rachel Crow hears the news of her elimination on “X Factor” Photo: FOX Another week, another dramatic finish to “The X Factor,” as 13-year-old Rachel Crow was voted off the Fox singing competition Thursday (December 8) when judge Nicole Scherzinger purposely threw the vote to a tie and left the final decision in the hands of America’s votes. That placed Crow against Marcus Canty, who landed in the bottom two for the third week in a row. When host Steve Jones read the final tally, Crow — who moments earlier said she’d be fine with whatever decision was made — fell to the ground as if someone had punched her in the gut, sobbing loud and hard on the “X Factor” stage. Crow was picked up off the ground by her mentor, Simon Cowell, and consoled by her mother. “Mommy!” Crow wept, while cameras cut to a shocked Scherzinger, who looked like she couldn’t believe what she’d just done. When she could finally speak, Crow told host Jones, “I just, I love you so much, everybody, for voting for me, even though you didn’t. … Thank you for giving me this, because without you, I’m nothing. And I hope this is not my ending. You know what? I know it’s not. And I will go so far, I promise you. And I love you.” She went on to thank her family for their support. Said Cowell after the decision: “I want to thank everyone that’s voted for this young girl. I believe she went out on the highest she could have gone out on. Like I said, from the very first time I met you, we’re going to be hearing a lot more about Rachel Crow, I give you my word on that.” Jones approached Scherzinger and asked if she had anything to say, and the ex-Pussycat Doll, who was heavily booed by the audience, turned away without comment. Earlier in the evening, both Crow and Canty were forced to sing for their lives in the competition. Canty took on “I’m Going Down,” while Crow tackled “I’d Rather Go Blind.” Following the performances, L.A. Reid praised Crow for her “amazing” rendition but voted for Canty to stay, while Cowell and Paula Abdul cast their votes in favor of Crow. That left the deciding vote to Scherzinger, who through tears said she couldn’t make the decision herself, so she voted for Canty to stay so the tiebreaker would lie in the hands of viewer votes. The night prior, Crow sang B.o.B and Bruno Mars’ “Nothin’ on You” and Michael Jackson’s “Music & Me,” prompting Abdul to call her “beautifully fearless,” “a wonderful role model,” “every girl’s best friend and every parent’s daydream,” “fantastic and magical” and with a “vocal depth [that] transcends all generations.” Canty, meanwhile, sang Chaka Kahn’s “Ain’t Nobody” and Leon Russell’s “A Song for You,” the latter of which was dubbed “a bit boring” by Cowell. But L.A. Reid compared Canty to Muhammad Ali, praising his ability to get up after being repeatedly knocked down. “I’ve got your back,” Reid told him, and he kept his word on Thursday. Earlier in the evening, Josh Krajcik, Melanie Amaro and Chris Rene advanced to next week’s semifinal. When Canty learned he would have to once again sing for his life, he remarked, “Bottom two, again? Gosh, man. But, top five, man, I just gotta go out and deliver.” The episode also featured live performances by Lenny Kravitz and Mary J. Blige. What did you think of the results? Let us know in the comments!

‘X Factor’ Loses Stacy Francis As Astro Loses His Cool

‘I don’t want to perform for people who don’t want me here,’ mini-MC says after landing in the bottom two. By Adam Graham Stacy Francis on “X Factor” Photo: FOX Stacy Francis — the 42-year-old diva who once pleaded to Simon Cowell, “I don’t want to die with this music in me!” — was eliminated from “The X Factor” Thursday night (November 17). But the bigger story was 15-year-old hip-hop dynamo Astro , who found himself in the bottom two with Francis and was none too pleased with his fate. Asked to sing for his life in front of the judges, Astro nonchalantly strolled onto the stage and announced, “I really don’t wanna perform. I feel like it’s unnecessary.” He turned to his mentor, L.A. Reid: “But I’mma leave it up to you. You’re my mentor. Do you think I should perform?” Reid told Astro he had come a long way in the competition and that he should perform. Astro turned back and proceeded to give a halfhearted, visibly jaded performance of a song in which he talked about his experiences on the show. Francis, for her song, belted out “Amazing Grace.” When it came time for the judges to make their decision, Astro was scolded for his attitude by the panel, with Reid telling him, “You acted a little bit like a quitter, and it upset me.” But Cowell was the hardest on the Brooklyn MC — whom Rihanna once compared to “a mini J. Cole” — telling him, “I don’t like your attitude right now.” “Look at me, and think about your mum watching the show,” Cowell said to him. “Because you are showing disrespect to your mom. You are showing disrespect to the audience at home, and I don’t like people with this attitude.” Astro retorted, “No disrespect to you or this show, but I just feel like if you’re going to put me in the bottom two, I don’t want to perform for people who don’t want me here, you know what I’m saying? That’s it.” By this time, Astro was being showered with boos from the audience, and a tear that had welled up in his eye began to stream down his face. Cowell asked if he’d take the same attitude if put in the position again, and Astro apologized, telling him, “Honestly, man, it’s cool.” With the audience chanting, “Stacy! Stacy!” Cowell cast his deciding vote. “I really don’t want to do this,” he said, voting for Astro to stay, saying he thinks he had a better chance of winning the show and ultimately sending Francis packing with a 3-1 vote in favor of her ouster. (Nicole Scherzinger, Francis’ mentor, was the sole vote for her to remain.) Francis thanked the judges for her time on the show and took responsibility for her so-so rendition of Meat Loaf’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” the night prior, which was slammed by Cowell. “I don’t believe I did great last night. I go with that, and I have to suck up my pride and take responsibility for the performance I gave,” Francis said. “I just want to thank Simon Cowell for giving me a chance, because I’m 42 years old, and he allowed me to sing for the world week to week.” Earlier in the night, Paula Abdul — who had already seen two of her groups get kicked off the show — caught a break when she learned her sole remaining group in the competition, Lakoda Rayne, was voted through to next week. Upon hearing the news, Cowell looked as though William Hung just won a Grammy, while Abdul proudly crowed, “I told you so, I told you so!” During the commercial break following the announcement, Cowell tweeted, “How the hell did that happen?” The episode also featured a performance from Rihanna, who showcased her current Billboard chart-topping single “We Found Love.” While it was presented as live, the performance was taped following Wednesday’s episode. The top 10 contestants opened the show with a group rendition of Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” celebrating the week’s rock and roll theme . Rihanna Confirms Jay-Z Talk That Talk Cameo

‘Yes sir! Jigga man is on the title track,’ Rihanna tweets Tuesday. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna and Jay-Z Photo: Larry Busacca/ Getty Images It’s been a while since Jay-Z and Rihanna have collaborated, and the release of her new album Talk That Talk on November 21 seems like as good a time as any. Norwegian production team Stargate spilled the beans that Hova will appear on Ri’s next album. In an interview posted on Complex.com , Stargate member Tor Erik Hermansen described the track as a “midtempo banger with hard drums, dirty synths, and Rihanna and Jay at their best. “We are very happy with the song, and Jay’s verse is crazy — same with Rihanna’s part,” he told the mag. Rihanna took to Twitter on Tuesday (November 8) to confirm that her mentor will appear on the song “Talk That Talk”: “Yes sir! Jigga man is on the title track #TTT.” Rihanna and Jay have memorably collaborated in the past on her mega-hit “Umbrella” and his Blueprint 3 track “Run This Town.” The collabo news comes just days after Rihanna released the Talk That Talk track list . Fourteen songs made the final cut; 11 will be featured on the standard version, and the additional three on the deluxe version. For those wondering just what the TTT era of Rihanna will look and sound like, her “We Found Love” video director, Melina Matsoukas , told us it will match vibe of that clip. “I think it sets up definitely the imagery for the album, and it’s in line with what they’re doing,” she said. “So that’s good, and I’m sure there’s plenty more, hopefully.” What are you expecting from the next Rihanna/Jay-Z collabo? Jackie Christie Talks “Mama Drama” [EXCLUSIVE]

See the article here:

Official basketball wife (check her credentials, she’s wedded 16 times!) Jackie Christie has been bad mouthed by the media for years as Doug’s ball-and-chain/parole officer, but she’s not the she-devil the media makes her out to be. Since production started for VH1’s “Basketball Wives LA,” Jackie Christie has been taking care of an ailing mother and playing mom to more than her three children. Here’s what she had to say when she spoke to TV One . BBWLA In reference to the cast of BBWLA, Jackie Christie says she is a mentor for the other women. Her wholesome yet spicy delivery can make even Draya calm down and adhere. “I don’t have an issue with anybody on the show,” Jackie says. “I’m more of the mentor. They come to me for advice, my intentions are to help them to be better people.” Jackie says when she lost her mother Cora last month, all of her cast members reached out to her, even the ones she didn’t necessarily get along with. “I was touched by the girls when they reached out,” Jackie Says, “It shows that they’re great people. Everybody put what they thought about me aside and reached out.” The Place This Basketball Wife Calls Home Losing Her Mother Before her mom’s death, Jackie and family made frequent trips from L.A. up to Washington to spend time with Cora, who was battling liver cancer. “Losing my mom, I’d say is the hardest thing I ever had to deal with my life,” says Jackie. They became close 19 years ago when Cora started helping raise Jackie’s kids. “I was a working mother,” Jackie says, “I said if you stop working and help I will make sure that I take care of you always. We’ve gotten closer in the 19 years; it’s amazing what I learned from her.” One of the things Jackie learned from Cora was how to be a great mother, even to her oldest daughter Ta’Kari, who was recently involved with some social media mishap. The Drama Surrounding Her Oldest Daughter Ta’Kari challenged Jackie’s mothering techniques and the authenticity of her relationship with her own mother on Twitter, but Jackie says her daughter didn’t do it on her own. “I love my daughter with all my heart. I was shocked when all that stuff came up because it couldn’t be further from the truth,” Jackie says. “When I asked about it, there were people who were trying to push my daughter to do that stuff. It is pathetic. I would never put my daughter out there and throw her under the bus.” Jackie says Ta’Kari, who was spending weekend with her at the time of the interview, apologized and they have prayed about the issue. “Some website tried to release that article.” Christie says, “It was a lot of people doing that, claiming they were with Ta’Kari; she had nothing to do with that.” Jackie, who is used to the media bashing her name, has not allowed the gossip to bother her. Even though her mother has passed and the first season of “BWLA” is over, Jackie continues to spread her wisdom on love, parenting, and friendships though her many entrepreneurial pursuits including inspirational books and Jean Rah Fya record company. ‘X Factor’: Melanie Amaro Stands Out As Five Go Home

First live episode whittles pool down to 12 finalists. By Adam Graham Melanie Amaro performs on ‘X Factor’ Photo: FOX Five contestants were shown the door on Tuesday’s “X Factor,” the first live episode of the singing competition. Among those sent away during the two-and-a-half-hour episode was Dexter Haygood, the formerly homeless contestant who once lived on L.A.’s Skid Row. Haygood — described early on as the “funky phenomenon” by his mentor Nicole Scherzinger — said he was “kinda confused” by the dismissal, which followed his bizarro-world mash-up of Britney Spears’ “Womanizer” and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” though he then said he didn’t know why he was confused. “Right now I’m in the boggle zone, which is the 21st century twilight zone,” Haygood explained. Also sent packing during the episode were 20-year-old Tiah Tolliver, a favorite of Simon Cowell’s who was never liked by the other judges; 22-year-old Simone Battle, who plugged her upcoming music video even as she was being given the boot; crooner Phillip Lomax, the 22-year-old who was saddled with singing the outside-of-his-comfort-zone “I’m a Believer” on the episode by his mentor L.A. Reid; and brother duo the Brewer Boys, who apologized to their mentor Paula Abdul (older brother Justin referred to her as “Ms. Paula”) for letting her down in their performance. That left 12 finalists who will go on in the competition:
