A Scientology Sideswipe? Katie Holmes And Daughter Suri Involved In Car Accident A car carrying a newly divorced Katie Holmes and her daughter Suri was struck by a garbage truck on Monday night. And no, Tom was not the driver. Nearly three weeks after filing for divorce from Tom Cruise, life in New York City isn’t without a few bumps in the road for Katie Holmes – literally. The Mercedes she was traveling in with daughter Suri, 6, was hit by a garbage truck Monday night, police confirm. No one was injured. The mother-daughter duo were leaving the Chelsea Piers recreational center – not far from their new Manhattan apartment – when a turning garbage truck rammed into their Mercedes, according to a source. “Suri was crying in the car,” says the source, who adds that Holmes, 33, was not driving. Once Holmes and her daughter were back home, a police report was filed. This is the second time their car has been hit in four days. Last Friday, a paparazzi car hit their vehicle as they were pulling home after a trip to the FAO Schwarz toy store. First her parents divorce and she’s forced to move ….and now her second car accident in one week. Little Suri sure is living the hard knock life lately! Source Image via Wenn

No, not that one — the other one: “This distinguished 250SL has a very desirable option package that includes ZF four-speed automatic transmission with floor shift, air conditioning, power steering, removable hardtop and a hidden soft top. The 250SL is the rarest of the W113-bodied cars, having been built only in 1967 and 1968. Its predecessor, the 230SL, was vastly improved upon in this model, while the last of the W113 cars, the 280SL, had a slightly larger engine and improved steering. This was one of the most popular cars that Mercedes-Benz ever built, and is extremely popular with collectors. The fantastic Natalie Wood lineage makes this 250SL all the more desirable. It is expected to fetch $30,000 – $50,000.” What a steal! Cheaper than a Willy Wonka costume , anyway. [ Profiles in History ]
Hollywood film executive Gavin Smith is reportedly missing, and the surprising details – or lack thereof – about the family man’s disappearance have left his wife, kids and colleagues searching for answers. Smith was staying at a friend’s house and drove off, without a word, in his black Mercedes around 10 p.m. one night last week. He never came back . The 57-year-old was reported missing by his wife Wednesday when he failed to pick up his son to take him to school and then did not call into work. Smith’s wife, kids, and sister told ABC News that the former UCLA basketball star and 20th Century Fox movie exec would never abandon his family. “He would never do that. He’s a great father. My dad had no reason to leave,” said Evan Smith, Gavin’s eldest son and a basketball player at USC. The family would not say why Smith, an 18-year veteran in the movie industry, was staying with a family friend in Oak Park, Calif., Tuesday night. He had reportedly returned earlier that that day from a movie convention in Las Vegas and was supposed to stay the night there, but the family said it was unusual that he left that home at 10 p.m. without warning. “They’d already gone to bed,” Lisa Smith said. “So, he was still downstairs watching TV when our friend went to bed. He was going to bed shortly.” The Smiths told ABC News that Gavin Smith’s cell phone charger, shaving kit, and other belongings were all still at the friend’s house. He was last seen in purple workout pants belonging to his teenage son, which the family says is a sign he had no intention of going out in public. “That’s what he was wearing, you know? It doesn’t sound like he was going anywhere, you know?” Evan Smith said. Lisa Smith said she last spoke to her husband Tuesday during the day to arrange plans for Wednesday morning for him to come pick up his son and take him to school. Lisa was busy taking care of her mother, who is battling cancer. “As soon as I heard that he had not picked up Austin from school, that’s when I said, ‘There has to be something wrong.’ What that is, I don’t know. I don’t know,” said Tara Addeo, Smith’s sister. The family has not been able to track down Smith through cell phone or credit card use or locate his car. They say he had no known enemies. “We know someone knows something. There’s no doubt that someone knows something,” Lisa Smith said. “He’s so recognizable, and he was in purple pants,” Addeo added. Los Angeles County Sheriff Public Information Officer Steve Whitmore told ABC News it’s a missing-person case, and asked the public for tips. Authorities say he was driving a black 2000 Mercedes-Benz 420E with a storage rack on the roof, tinted windows and a California license plate 6EKT044.
‘Just like everybody else that ended up falling in love with them, that’s what happened to me,’ Rev Run tells MTV News of the Beastie Boys. By Nadeska Alexis Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys in 1987 Photo: Ebet Roberts/ Getty Images In 1986, the Beastie Boys set out on the Raising Hell Tour with LL Cool J, Whodini and Run-DMC, and the chemistry between the groups was instantaneous. Adam Yauch, one-third of the Beasties, died Friday (May 4) after a three-year battle with cancer , and both Rev Run and DMC reached out to MTV News to share their personal memories of Yauch and the Beastie Boys from the days they spent together, early in their respective careers. Rev Run Developing a Bond : “When I first met [the Beastie Boys], they came to the [Def Jam] office and they were really good rappers, but more than that, they were funny. They were not only friendly, but they were just so funny, it was amazing. Their rhymes were funny and they were funny, so out of everything I can think of, everything with them was fun and humorous, and that was what attracted me to them. One time, on tour, I actually abandoned my bus because I was so intrigued and was so friendly with them that I went and hung on their bus for a night, so that was really cool. I’d never tried anything like that before, so it was kinda crazy, but I wanted to be with them, so I was like, ‘Y’all got an extra bunk?’ I left my bus and I went and hung on their bus. It was the funnest thing in the word, if ‘funnest’ is a word.” Their Effect on Hip-Hop : “I think they were blowing people’s minds. I was out on tour right before I met them, and when they came along, it was just amazing. I ended up actually writing songs with them, like ‘Paul Revere.’ And then they took one of our songs ‘Slow and Low’ — we left a tape in the studio and they did it over — so I was really kinda involved with them in a little bit of production, along with Rick Rubin. They actually picked up Dr. Dre as a DJ for a while, which was really cool. So they had Dre DJing, and in my mind, they were just so dope on the mic — especially Adam Yauch. He had a really incredible style of rhyme, and I was like, ‘This dude is amazing.’ Just like everybody else that ended up falling in love with them, that’s what was happening to me — I was like, ‘Wow, these white kids could rap.’ And Adam Yauch has this special type of rasp in his voice that made him incredible to me, so he stood out as a real vintage type of incredible MC. It was intriguing to see white guys rapping like that, being so cool, plus sticking to their roots, so they were true to themselves.” Remembering Adam Yauch with Beastie Boys’ Essential Hits Fondest Memory : “Them taking the Mercedes-Benz emblems [and wearing them around their necks] or hearing that kids were taking the Mercedes-Benz emblems off of cars. I remember getting to London and the press was so scared of what might happen, because the Beastie Boys were there. It was a phenomenon when I got overseas, to hear what the press was thinking about what the Beastie Boys might do. All of that stuff was just really shocking to me. The press loved Run-DMC, but it was a different type of thing that they thought the Beastie Boys were gonna bring to town with them.” Recent Memories : “A couple years ago, me and a couple of people that were working on filming ‘Run’s House’ on MTV went to their show in Brooklyn, and I came out on onstage and waved to the audience right before ‘No Sleep Till Brooklyn.’ I did so much with them over the years that I just want to keep the love alive. My tribute to them is just to tell them that I love them and what they did for hip-hop culture is legendary.” DMC Developing a Bond : “It was instant. Right away, they drank Budweiser and we drank 40 ounces of Olde English. We wore gold chains and Cadillac emblems, and they took the emblems right off Volkswagens and put them on their necks. The thing that worked with us was it was the same feeling but different expression. Their sneakers could be dirty and muddy and they could’ve had them since fifth grade, and our sneakers had to be clean, but we both rocked the music, the presentation. The personality was expressed from the same heart, with the same heart and feeling. We lived together, we toured the world together, we played together, we got drunk together, we laughed together, we cried together. You know what was good about them? It wasn’t an act. It wasn’t white rappers trying to be black — they were themselves, and we respected that. Real recognized real. At times you thought you were in a movie, but it wasn’t like they were just doing it to just to do it. It’s really them: energetic, exciting, spontaneous and very creative too.” Their Effect on Hip-Hop : “The Beastie Boys are one of the greatest groups, and I’m not just talking hip-hop — the Beastie Boys are one of the greatest groups in history. You could call them the Ramones of hip-hop. Even greater than that, they were a great rock and roll band. They made it possible for Eminem , Vanilla Ice and all these other white rappers that came up to have a place to be. They made it acceptable.” Fondest Memory : “On the Together Forever Tour, we were over in Europe, and the stage got really, really wet, because they were opening cans of beer and spraying it everywhere, so the stage was like a danger zone. We were on the side of the stage watching their show, thinking, ‘One of them is going to bust they ass,’ and MCA slipped and flew about 20 feet up in the air, came down real hard and we thought he was dead … but then he got up and they just kept going. It was the craziest thing ever.” Recent Memories : “I saw them constantly over the years. If I go to New York, I’ll see them. If I’m in L.A., I see ’em. If I go to a Rage Against the Machine show, I see ’em. If I go to a radio show, if I go to a movie premiere, I see ’em. If I walk by the basketball courts in the Village, I see them out there playing. I would always see them. It was cool, because you would always see them doing the things that they rapped about, that they said they did, and in the places they said they did. They were always at the skateboard park. They were always in the studio. They were always at the club where some new indie band was premiering.” Tune in to MTV tonight at 8 p.m. for “Adam Yauch: Remembering a Beastie Boy,” an hour-long special hosted by Sway celebrating the life and career of Adam “MCA” Yauch, including his biggest moments and remembrances from his friends and peers. Glee will pay tribute to Whitney Houston on Tuesday night, airing an episode titled “Dance with Somebody” that features a number of hits by the late artist. The series will use them help paint the picture of seniors at fictional William McKinley High School graduating and saying goodbye to each other. Whether you think this is merely an admirable showing of respect for the legend, or a pathetic exploitation of her tragic death , one thing cannot be debated: the first cover released by Fox from the episode is incredibly impressive. It features Mercedes (Amber Riley), Rachel (Lea Michele), Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Santana (Naya Rivera) breaking down “How Will I Know” A capella style, and it’s destined to be included in the Glee pantheon of covers. The years since Lohan’s last ‘Saturday Night Live’ hosting gig have been filled with turmoil. By John Mitchell Lindsay Lohan Photo: FilmMagic For the first time in a long time, the universe seems to be working in Lindsay Lohan’s favor. The actress has been confirmed as host of the March 3 episode of “Saturday Night Live” and has reportedly booked the role of film legend Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime movie “Liz and Dick.” Recently, she’s been lying low and working to finish the community service she was sentenced to following numerous probation violations relating to past DUI arrests and charges she shoplifted a necklace from a Venice, California, boutique in early 2011. Her most recent probation progress reports from Los Angeles Superior Court judge Stephanie Sautner have been “glowing,” and there’s been some indication she may even be on track to complete the requirements of her probation early, according to Radar . Lohan last hosted “SNL” in April 2006. She’s hosted the legendary sketch-comedy show three times, receiving mostly positive reviews for her stints on the show. But a lot has happened to the starlet in the years since. Let’s take a look at where she was when she last hosted the show and the turbulent years since. When Lindsay Last Hosted ‘SNL’ When Lohan last graced the famous Studio 8-H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, she was promoting her star vehicle “Just My Luck” and the Robert Altman-directed “A Prairie Home Companion.” Lohan received a career-high paycheck of $7 million for the rom-com, which was helmed by Donald Petrie, who was working in the genre that brought him great success with “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “Miss Congeniality.” The role was intended to be the bridge that carried Lohan from her child-star past into adult roles but failed to catch fire at the box office, grossing a disappointing $17 million. While it didn’t perform particularly well in theaters either, “Companion” earned warm reviews and, importantly, landed the actress accolades from two of the film industry’s most respected veterans, the late Altman, the legendary director of “MASH,” “Nashville,” “Short Cuts” and “Gosford Park,” and Meryl Streep, who complimented Lohan’s acting skills in W magazine, saying, “She’s in command of the art form” and “completely, visibly living in front of the camera.” While trouble was brewing in her personal life at the time, with rumors of drug use, hard partying and eating disorders already plaguing the then-19-year-old actress, Lohan still had some of the most highly esteemed people in her industry rushing to her defense. Later that same year, she earned a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination as part of the sprawling cast of “Bobby.” Just a month after her “SNL” appearance, concerns about her partying came to a head when she was hospitalized on the set of “Georgia Rule.” Her reps claimed “she was overheated and dehydrated,” but Morgan Creek Productions executive James G. Robinson famously called her bluff and did so very publicly, penning a letter that was quickly made public calling the actress “irresponsible and unprofessional” and stating, “We are well aware that your ongoing all night heavy partying is the real reason for your so-called ‘exhaustion.’ ” The actress soldiered on, but not for long. In January 2007, production on her much-maligned and financially unsuccessful film “I Know Who Killed Me” was suspended when she entered the hospital to have her appendix removed and again less than a month later when she entered the Wonderland Center, a lavish treatment facility for substance abuse that caters to a celebrity clientele. It was the first of several court-ordered and voluntary stays in rehab. Soon after, she withdrew from a planned film adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s “A Woman of No Importance” and was released from the independent film “The Edge of Love” after the director was not able to secure insurance for Lohan to star. Lohan’s Legal Troubles Begin The tumult that has plagued Lohan since early 2007 is as well-publicized as it is seemingly endless. For all intents and purposes, the legal troubles that continue to plague the actress really began in May 2007, when she was arrested for driving under the influence. We’ve briefly catalogued those troubles below: May 26, 2007 : Lohan is arrested after crashing her Mercedes into a shrub and curb in Los Angeles at 5:30 a.m. and is charged with misdemeanor DUI. She immediately re-enters rehab, this time at Promises Treatment Center in Malibu. July 24, 2007 : The actress is again arrested for DUI , this time following a brief car chase through Santa Monica. When police search Lohan, she is found to have a small amount of cocaine in her pocket. People reports that she was wearing an alcohol-detection ankle bracelet at the time of her arrest and was booked for DUI, possession of cocaine, transporting a narcotic into a custody facility and driving on a suspended license. In August, Lohan reaches a plea deal that includes one day in jail (though she ultimately only serves 84 minutes), 10 days of community service, completion of an 18-month alcohol-education program, hundreds of dollars in fines and 36 months of probation. February 2008 : Lohan re-creates Marilyn Monroe’s famous “Last Sitting” in a controversial photo shoot for New York magazine. Unable to secure acting roles, reportedly because production companies can’t afford the high cost of insuring her, she launches a line of leggings, 6126 (Monroe’s birthday), and a spray-tan line, Sevin Nyne, in collaboration with Sephora. October 16, 2009 : Lohan is more than an hour late to a probation hearing in Beverly Hills for a progress review on her two DUI cases and receives another year of probation due to failure to complete alcohol-education classes as required. June 8, 2010 : A judge issues an arrest warrant for Lohan after she violates a court order to not consume alcohol while wearing a SCRAM alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet. The warrant is recalled after she posts $200,000 bail. July 6, 2010 : Lohan is sentenced to 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab for violating her probation in her DUI cases. July 20, 2010 : The actress is taken into custody to begin her jail term. She serves only 14 days of the 90-day sentence due to overcrowding and is taken immediately to UCLA Medical Center to begin her court-ordered rehab. She is again released early and permitted to continue her treatment on an outpatient basis. September 24, 2010 : Having failed a drug test, Lohan’s trial is revoked and she spends a day in jail before being released on bail. A few days later, she is sent on justice sequence to the Betty Ford Center, where she remains for three months. February 9, 2011 : Barely free for a month, Lohan is charged with a burglary after walking out of a Venice, California, boutique with a $2,500 necklace still around her neck. She pleads no contest, but as any violations of the law constitute a violation of her probation, she is sentenced to 120 days in jail, 360 hours of community service at a Los Angeles women’s shelter and 120 hours service at the L.A. County morgue. Due to jail overcrowding, she serves house arrest instead, wearing a tracking ankle monitor for 35 days. While underneath house arrest, her monitoring bracelet detects trace amounts of alcohol in her system, which under further investigation are not deemed a probation violation, so she receives no additional punishment. October 19, 2011 : After Lohan fails to complete her court-ordered community service, Judge Sautner revokes the actress’ probation and sends her to jail, telling the actress that if she wants to stay out of a corrections facility, she needs to complete 16 hours of community service at the morgue before her next hearing. She is again sentenced to jail November 7, this time for 30 days, but is released after just a few hours due to overcrowding. Following her latest brush with the law, the actress seemed to decide that enough was enough. She’s reportedly been diligent about completing her community service so she can get back to work as an actress and has received positive notices from the judge. Rumored to be experiencing financial difficulties due to her inability to work, Lohan accepted a $1 million deal to pose for the January issue of Playboy. Her photo shoot for the men’s magazine was, unsurprisingly, inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s shoot for the same mag. The issue was released early after the photos leaked online and was enormously successful, reportedly even selling out in some markets . Lohan’s March 3 appearance on “Saturday Night Live” will be her first acting gig since Robert Rodriguez’s 2010 film “Machete.” Are you rooting for Lindsay’s comeback? Let us know in the comments! Fox show remembers the late icon during Valentine’s-themed episode with Amber Riley’s rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You.’ By Jocelyn Vena Amber Riley on Tuesday’s episode of “Glee” Photo: FOX On Tuesday night, “Glee” paid homage to the late Whitney Houston . But Amber Riley’s soulful rendition of “I Will Always Love You” had already been on the docket for the Valentine’s-themed episode, titled “Heart,” long before Houston was found dead Saturday in her Los Angeles hotel room. While the song choice served to move along the plot — which revolved around the love triangle between Riley’s Mercedes and her two beaus, footballer Shane (LaMarcus Tinker) and fellow Gleek Sam (Chord Overstreet) — it was particularly stirring, considering its timing. Standing in a red gown, Riley stood alone on a stage with just a spotlight on her as she sang a pitch-perfect rendition of the song, a Dolly Parton track recorded by Houston for “The Bodyguard” soundtrack . While Riley sings, Overstreet stands in the back of the auditorium, acknowledging her tearful goodbye to him. Who covered “I Will Always Love You” better: “Glee” or the Grammys? The show’s producers acknowledged the icon’s loss with an “In Memoriam” slate that ran at the end of the episode, which simply read: “Whitney Houston 1963-2012. We will always love you.” The decision to acknowledge the singer’s death was made shortly after the news of her tragic and untimely death broke. “Obviously, we could not predict the unfortunate circumstances that happened this weekend,” “Glee” music supervisor P.J. Bloom told The Hollywood Reporter. “But at the same time, instead of focusing on the dark stuff, it’s nice to have an opportunity to hear her in this way and celebrate the magic that Whitney brought to this industry.” Riley opened up to E! News about meeting Houston on Thursday, at the pre-Grammy party where Whitney hit the stage with Kelly Price . “Whitney’s music meant so very much to me. I was very, very choked up when I heard about her passing. I just met her this past Thursday,” Riley said. “I’ve grown up listening to her voice ringing throughout our household. I’m so speechless. I can’t believe that she passed.” On Sunday, Jennifer Hudson performed the same song at the Grammy Awards , serving as a simple, emotional tribute to the singer. Tune in as we celebrate the life of an icon with “Whitney Houston: In Her Own Words” tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET on MTV.
