Florida Man Cause Of Death Listed As “Upper Cut From Batman” On Official Obituary

Newspaper Allows Family Of Dead Man To List Cause Of Death As Uppercut From Batman The family of a Florida man was allowed to pay homage to his love of comics in his published obituary, which listed his cause of death as “an uppercut from Batman” Via NY Daily News reports : Stephen Merrill, from Winter Haven, passed away on February 12. The 31-year-old died suddenly and the family at the time did not have an official cause of death when they went to write his obituary for the local newspaper, The Ledger. The Ledger does not allow obituaries to be published unless there is a cause of death. “Everyone was starting to get a little tense. We didn’t have a cause of death but we were told we had to have one,” said Merrill’s friend Brandon Moxam. “I made a joke. Say the cause of death was an ‘uppercut from Batman.’” Moxam said everyone started laughing and Merrill’s dad, Larry, responded: “Yeah, the cause of death was an uppercut from Batman.” “He would have been honored to have died by an uppercut from Batman,” said fiancée Stephanie Vella. The paper then printed it after being persuaded it would help the family grieve. “It was worth it for the family. It was the only time the family was able to laugh in days,” said friend, Andrew Albreacht. Merrill was diagnosed with cancer in June 2013. Despite going into remission in December of the same year, the cancer returned last October. He had a huge love of comics and people wore superhero t-shirts to his celebration and there was also a Captain America shield made from flowers. This is bittersweet, but we love the idea of the way they chose to pay homage to the loved one they lost. What do you think your family would say about you if you died under similar circumstances? stockelements / Shutterstock.com 360b / Shutterstock.com
