Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson Plead To Be On ‘Glee’

‘I was gonna get up on the stage tonight with them and start dancing,’ Wilson says of her love for the show at the Emmys. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Kara Warner Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson at the 2010 Emmy Awards Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images Tom Hanks may have won a ton of awards in his career, including an Emmy on Sunday night for his work on the HBO miniseries “The Pacific,” but there’s still one thing that the Oscar winner has yet to do: He wants a part on “Glee,” as does his wife and fellow Gleek, Rita Wilson. ” ‘Glee,’ oh my God! Yes! Oh please. Call [show creator] Ryan [Murphy] up! I was gonna get up on the stage tonight with them and start dancing,” Wilson teased to MTV News at the HBO Emmy afterparty, where she tried to think up what her choice tune for the show would be. “For ‘Glee’? Hold on!” Her husband, on the other hand, had the perfect set of tunes for his wife to perform on the hit show. “You work for MTV, can’t you make that happen? Bring it on! Bring it on!” he joked. ” ‘All the Single Ladies’! Oh no! ‘Do You Believe in Love’ by Cher!” (Hanks famously sang the Beyonc

Amanda Bynes’ Retirement Came As A Surprise, Rep Says

The 24-year-old actress ‘sounded great’ last week, Melissa Raubvogel tells the New York Daily News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Amanda Bynes Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images Amanda Bynes’ recent retirement announcement came as a surprise to most, but perhaps no one was more shocked than her own publicist. Bynes’ rep, Melissa Raubvogel, said the young star’s weekend tweets about quitting Hollywood came without warning. Raubvogel told the New York Daily News that her client “sounded great” as recently as last Thursday, when the actress was out promoting her upcoming movie “Easy A.” Bynes’ Twitter declaration that she “doesn’t love acting anymore” and would abandon the business was posted just two days after she made those press rounds. While her publicist didn’t expect the star to make such a drastic move, she admitted that Bynes wanted to “take some down time.” Still, Raubvogel says the star never talked about ending her acting career. Bynes vented her frustrations about Hollywood early Saturday morning, tweeting, “Being an actress isn’t as fun as it may seem,” and “I’ve never written the movies & tv shows I’ve been apart of I’ve only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play.” She later announced the she was through with show biz, writing, “I don’t love acting anymore so I’ve stopped doing it.” She acknowledged the oddity of a 20-something far from AARP status calling it quits: “I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I’ve #retired.” Bynes’ rep also denied that the star was fired from the upcoming movie “Hall Pass,” directed by comedy kingpins the Farrelly brothers. Raubvogel told the Daily News the star had to ditch the project because of a “scheduling conflict.” Fans of Bynes can still catch the actress on the big screen this fall. Her teen comedy “Easy A,” also starring Emma Stone, Penn Badgley and Cam Gigandet is set to hit theaters in September. What do you think about Amanda announcing she’ll retire? Justin Bieber Retakes Top Spot On Billboard Albums Chart

Plus, the National hit #3 with High Violet. By Gil Kaufman Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 Photo: Island You might slow him down, but you just can’t stop Justin Bieber . The pint-size pop dynamo will be back on top of the Billboard albums charts next week when his second effort, My World 2.0 , makes the leap from #5 back up to the pole position on modest sales of 60,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Though the total is one of the lowest for a #1 album this year, it is still enough to push 2.0 over the 1 million mark. Hanging tight just behind Bieber is Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, which is down 44 percent to 54,000, just enough to stave off a strong bid from moody indie darlings the National, whose High Violet notches a career-high #3 debut (51,000). Also debuting in the top 10 is the second effort from White Stripes/Raconteurs leader Jack White’s other side project, the Dead Weather, whose Sea of Cowards hits #5 on sales of 45,000. Filipina pop star Charice lands at #8 with her self-titled debut (43,000), edging out metal act As I Lay Dying’s Powerless Rise, which sneaks in at #10 on sales of 38,000. Rounding out the top 10 are: AC/DC’s Iron Man 2 (48,000), the Carole King and James Taylor Live at the Troubadour collabo, which slips a bit to 43,000, Usher’s Raymond v. Raymond, which ticks up a bit to 43,000, and Godsmack’s The Oracle, which drops eight slots from last week’s #1 debut to #9, as sales fell 63 percent to 43,000. Just outside the top tier, the Deftones take a major tumble in week two as Diamond Eyes sheds 68 percent of its first week sales to fall 12 spots to #18 (20,000). Toni Braxton’s comeback attempt, Pulse, also falls 13 to #22 (18,000), and righteous rockers MercyMe drop 20 spots to #23 with The Generous Mr. Lovewell (18,000). English piano popsters Keane hit #25 with their latest, Night Train (17,000), while classic rock juggernaut Meat Loaf could only muster a #27 debut with Hang Cool Teddy Bear (15,000). And it’s a modest debut for We Are the Fallen’s Tear the World Down at #33 (13,000), as the first effort from former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody and “American Idol” finalist Carly Smithson fails to impress. Buzzed-about New York noise duo Sleigh Bells make an impressive chart debut at #39 with Treats (12,000), while cameo king Bruno Mars comes in at a modest #99 with his debut EP, It’s Better If You Don’t Understand (5,000). Next week, look for the much-hyped reissue of the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main St. to chart, as well as the fourth “Glee” album and the major label debut from Band of Horses. Conan O’Brien To Launch His TBS Show November 8

‘The plot to ‘Lost’ is more plausible than my last year at NBC,’ O’Brien quips during announcement. By Eric Ditzian Conan O’Brien performs on his “Legally Prohibited” tour Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty images In the end, Conan O’Brien will have been gone from the airwaves for 289 days: the time between his final “Tonight Show” episode and the launch of his TBS late-night program . O’Brien’s new show will debut Monday, November 8, according to multiple news reports . The announcement was made at the TBS upfront presentation Wednesday (May 19) at the Hammerstein Theatre in New York City. O’Brien himself was on hand for the event, cracking jokes and even breaking into song. “The plot to ‘Lost’ is more plausible than my last year at NBC,” he quipped at one point. “I really believe in cable television,” he continued. “I do not want to live in a country with less than five ESPN networks.” The floppy-haired comedian also busted into a revamped version of Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again,” changing the lyrics to croon, “I just want to be on my own show again.” Not for 173 more days, CoCo! That his new show will air on TBS , rather than Fox, came as a huge surprise to even media insiders when it was announced in April. O’Brien’s reps were deep in negotiations with Fox until the talk-show host made a stunning reversal and decided to take his talents to cable. The show will air Mondays through Thursdays at 11 p.m. ET/PT. “Lopez Tonight,” which currently airs at 11 p.m., will shift to midnight. “Conan has been the comedic voice for a generation,” Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, said at the time. “TBS already has a huge audience of young comedy lovers, and Conan’s show will give these fans even more reasons to watch our network.” During Wednesday’s upfront, Conan joked to his new boss, “Steve, thanks for the blank creative check … you fool!” Will you watch Conan’s TBS show? Will Justin Bieber Be In ‘Valentine’s Day’ Sequel ‘New Year’s Eve’?

‘They keep mentioning this Justin Bieber,’ director Garry Marshall says of getting the teen star onboard. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Michael Buckner/Getty Images With a release date set for “New Year’s Eve,” the sequel to “Valentine’s Day,” director Garry Marshall admits he has Bieber fever. The original romantic comedy cast superstar musician Taylor Swift , and Marshall’s team is trying to get another pop sensation onboard for the December 9, 2011, flick. “Already, they’re mentioning Justin Bieber ,” Marshall told MTV News about possible casting. “I have no idea who that is, but I’m sure we’ll meet.” Marshall said the film is moving along nicely. “I have a script,” he revealed. “I did a rewrite. We’re rewriting it now. … It’s supposed to shoot in New York in September. It’s supposed to be a similar cast of a number of stars. It’s written like that, but we hope to get all new stars except for Hector Elizondo, who has to be in all my movies. So he’s gonna play a guy you’ll never recognize.” A bevy of Hollywood heavyweights appeared in the original flick, but Marshall said there is still plenty of star power left in Hollywood for the next installment. “I had to call on a lot of friendships, but we still have other friends,” he said. “I hope Reese Witherspoon, Halle Berry. I love the girls. I work well with women. I’m a Scorpio. I’m Italian. I grew up with sisters and I have daughters, so I like women. What can I tell you? And I like making them funny, but we’ll see who we get. Nobody is set yet. “Except I hear they keep mentioning this Justin Bieber,” he continued. “Perhaps I’d better see who he is, so when he arrives on set, possibly [we can talk]. So we’ll see.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Project Natal World Premiere E3 Event To Air On MTV

Gamers will get their first look at Xbox 360 device on June 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET. By Russ Frushtick Soccer player Tristan Bowen plays Project Natal at the Xbox Booth during E3 in Los Angeles on June 2, 2009 Photo: Michael Buckner/ WireImage E3 is always an important time for gamers, but the show is limited to members of the games industry, so everyone else is forced to experience the news second-hand. That’ll change this year, as MTV Networks will be airing Microsoft’s world premiere of Project Natal, giving viewers a glimpse at what the future holds for their Xbox 360s. Airing on Tuesday, June 15, the premiere will feature a performance by Cirque du Soleil and will demonstrate new features and games specifically for Project Natal. First shown at E3 2009, Project Natal is a new piece of hardware that attaches to the Xbox 360. Equipped with a camera, the device senses the location and position of players standing in front of it. This allows gamers to control the action on the screen simply by moving their bodies. Unlike the Wii or PlayStation’s upcoming Move motion controller, Project Natal doesn’t require participants to be holding anything while they play, which is good news considering all those unfortunate Wii-mote accidents a few years back. In the announcement, Microsoft Senior Vice President Don Mattrick was enthusiastic about the opportunity to air the event. “We look forward to making entertainment history again at E3 Expo 2010 and can’t think of a better partner than MTV Networks to exclusively share our news, experiences and Cirque du Soleil’s amazing creativity with an entirely new audience.” Before the MTV premiere, brother station Spike TV will be broadcasting Microsoft’s E3 media briefing live on Monday, June 14. Specific details and announcements are usually kept well under wraps until the show actually begins, but previous years have focused on new games and updates to the Xbox 360 platform. Last year’s media briefing was particularly eventful, as it featured an appearance by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who were on hand to promote “The Beatles: Rock Band.” “The World Premiere Project Natal for Xbox 360” show will be airing commercial-free on MTV, June 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET, and then on Nick at Nite, mtvU, MTV Hits and Logo, at 9 p.m. ET that evening. Microsoft’s E3 media briefing will air live on Spike TV on Monday, June 14 at 1:30 p.m. ET. Both events can also be viewed live on GameTrailers.com .

Conan O’Brien Talks Jay Leno On ’60 Minutes’: ‘I Wouldn’t Have Done That’

‘Everyone’s got their own, you know, way of doing things,’ he says during the interview, airing Sunday night. By Eric Ditzian Conan O’Brien Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images We’ve already heard Jay Leno’s side of things when it comes to his late-night feud with Conan O’Brien over the the keys to “The Tonight Show.” Now it’s O’Brien’s turn for a little on-camera venting in an interview with “60 Minutes.” According to excerpts released by CBS News , the comedian is not holding anything back. “He went and took that show back, and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know … I know me, I wouldn’t have done that,” O’Brien said. “If I had surrendered ‘The Tonight Show’ and handed it over to somebody publicly and wished them well and then … six months later. But that’s me, you know. Everyone’s got their own, you know, way of doing things.” What would O’Brien have done instead? “Done something else, go someplace else,” he said. “I mean, that’s just me.” O’Brien is currently on a 32-city live show sweep across North America with his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour . In a shocking turn earlier this month, the displaced NBC host inked a deal with TBS to launch a new late-night show on the cable network rather than, as had been widely presumed, a show on Fox. As the NBC brouhaha flared up at the start of the year, O’Brien said he came to realize that his relationship with the network had been irrevocably damaged. “I think this relationship is going be toxic, and maybe we just need to go our separate ways,” he said. “That’s really how it felt to me … and I started to feel that I’m not sure these people even really want me here. … I can’t do it [anymore].” The full “60 Minutes” interview will air Sunday at 7 p.m. ET. Martha Stewart, Jimmy Fallon Are Happy Conan O’Brien ‘Found A Home’

‘Conan, I want to be your first guest!’ Stewart says following O’Brien’s TBS announcement. By Jocelyn Vena Conan O’Brien Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images On Monday night, New York was abuzz with the news that Conan O’Brien’s next late-night venture wouldn’t be on Fox, as was originally believed, but instead on cable network TBS, which is already the home of George Lopez’s late-night show . While the move came as a bit of a surprise to fans, his colleagues were happy that O’Brien, who is currently on the road for his comedy tour , has found a new place on the small screen. “I’m so happy he has a home,” Martha Stewart raved to MTV News on the red carpet for Good Housekeeping ‘s 125th anniversary celebration. “I knew he would, but he’s fabulous. I love him. Conan, I want to be your first guest!” At the same event, outspoken talk-show diva Wendy Williams speculated that the deal from TBS was probably too sweet to turn down. “When I heard it, I thought it was kind of strange, but you know what, we haven’t heard the financial payout,” she said. “Maybe he’s getting more money than he ever made before. Maybe he’s got a master plan. Maybe it’s only a two-year deal. Maybe he’s not going to be there forever. I don’t know.” Meanwhile, at a “Saturday Night Live” event at New York’s Pierre Hotel, Jimmy Fallon and Andy Samberg commented on the big news. “There’s nothing that Conan can do that I won’t watch. I’m excited for it,” Samberg said. Fallon, who’s been holding down NBC’s “Late Night” since Conan left, felt that the move is right not only for O’Brien, but also for TBS. “It’s great for everybody, great for Conan. I know he’s happy,” Fallon said. “I haven’t talked to him, but I talked to him a couple of weeks ago, and TBS should be really happy because they made a great move. He’s a great, funny dude, and I can’t wait to see him.” What do you think of Conan’s move to TBS? Tell us in the comments! Related Photos Conan’s Career In Photos
