Lady Gaga Surpasses President Obama In Facebook Fans

Fame singer will be first living person to pass 10 million mark on the social networking site. By Gil Kaufman Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images President Obama, Starbucks, “House,” “Twilight” and “South Park.” What do all of these things have in common? As of Friday, they all had fewer Facebook fans than Lady Gaga . According to the British social network statistics site Famecount.com , Gaga is on the verge of becoming the first living person to roll up 10 million Facebook fans. As of press time on Friday (July 2), she surpassed the only other living person on the list who had exceeded her tally: President Obama. Gaga’s fan count reached 9,940,462 to the leader of the free world’s 9,444,942. She also continues to spank Obama in Twitter followers (4,762,938 to 4,422,923) and YouTube subscribers (311,716 to 191,562). The singer, who never misses a chance to shout out her rabid fanbase of “little monsters,” is also miles ahead of other living celebs on the list when it comes to Facebook followers, including Britney Spears (3.1 million), Ashton Kutcher (3.6 million), Taylor Swift (5.8 million), Selena Gomez (5.2 million) and even Justin Bieber (5.9 million). But she still can’t hold a candle to the King of Pop. Among musical acts, only the late Michael Jackson’s Facebook fans list is more massive than Gaga’s. As of press time, the only other Facebook pages to top Gaga’s were for Texas Hold ‘Em Poker (20 million), Jackson (14.1 million), the online game “Mafia Wars” (12.7 million), “Family Guy” (10.1 million) and Facebook itself (10.7 million). Other entities that are surprisingly further down on the friends count list than Gaga?: “Twilight” (7.1 million), “South Park” (6.5 million), Coke (6.1 million), Lil Wayne (5.9 million) and, yes, Skittles candy (5.5 million). Gaga’s upsurge this week on Facebook might have something to do with her cover story in the latest issue of Rolling Stone magazine, in which she provides the most intriguing peek yet into her closely guarded private life. In addition to the bombshell interview with former Afghan war General Stanley McChrystal, the Gaga feature has helped to propel the magazine’s newsstand sales to twice what it usually does. Are you a Facebook fan of Gaga’s? What do you think of her passing President Obama in total friends? Tell us in the comments! Eminem’s Recovery Dominates Billboard 200

Miley Cyrus’ Can’t Be Tamed debuts at #3, behind Drake’s Thank Me Later. By Gil Kaufman Eminem Photo: Kevin Mazur/ Getty Images Guess who’s back? Eminem is notching his sixth #1 album in a row with Recovery , which sold more than 741,000 copies last week. Those numbers dwarfed the figures for the all of the rest of the top 10 on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, as Slim Shady put up the best first-week numbers since 2008, far surpassing year’s other big debuts (Drake, Lady Antebellum, Sade). Proving once again that despite the album’s early leak, his fans will still come out to support the Detroit MC, Em’s massive haul pushes last week’s #1, Drake ‘s Thank Me Later down to #2. Sales for Drake’s debut cratered by 65 percent to 157,000, but the melodic Young Money MC still passed the gold mark in just two weeks, according to numbers provided by Nielsen SoundScan. Miley Cyrus had a rough landing for her more mature Can’t Be Tamed, which comes in at #3 on sales of 102,000, less than half of what 2008’s Breakout did in its debut week (371,000). And though he still hasn’t reached his goal of snagging a #1 debut on the U.S. charts, metal legend Ozzy Osbourne ‘s latest solo effort, Scream, lands at #4 after moving 81,000 copies. It’s followed at #6 by the chart bow from the Roots ‘ long-in-the-works How I Got Over (51,000). In a relatively slow week on the charts, the rest of the top 10 include: Now 34 (#5, 55,000), Jack Johnson ‘s To the Sea (#7, 44,000), Justin Bieber ‘s My World 2.0 (#8, 43,000), Sarah McLachlan ‘s Laws of Illusion (#9, 38,000) and the soundtrack to “Eclipse” (#10, 38,000). Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ‘ Mojo crashes down nine spots in week two to #11, as sales dipped by 74 percent to 33,000. After 24 weeks in the top 10, Lady Antebellum ‘s Need You Now has dropped to #12 on sales of 32,000. Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera ‘s Bionic continues to struggle, as the singer’s latest slips out of the top 10 after just three weeks, dropping to #22 as sales trailed off by 54 percent to 18,000. One of Aguilera’s collaborators, singer Sia , debuts at #37 with We Are Born (11,000), while soul mama Macy Gray is right behind at #38 with Sellout (11,000). As the world marked the one-year anniversary of his death, Michael Jackson ‘s Number Ones collection rockets up more than 50 spots to #42 on sales of just under 10,000 (one of several Jackson titles to march back up the charts this week). Chris Brown’s BET Awards MJ Tribute Was ‘Spectacular,’ Jermaine Jackson Says

‘He deserves to perform, because it’s healing for him,’ Michael Jackson’s brother tells ‘Extra.’ By Gil Kaufman Chris Brown performs during the 2010 BET Awards on Sunday Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Chris Brown wasn’t the only one getting misty-eyed at Sunday night’s BET Awards during his tribute to Michael Jackson . The King of Pop’s older brother, Jermaine, told “Extra” that he was also overcome with emotion during the dance routine, in which Brown paid homage to some of MJ’s most famous moves and then attempted to sing “Man in the Mirror” before being overcome with emotion and weeping onstage. “To see [Chris’] performance, it was very emotional for me, because it was an acceptance from his fans from what has happened to him and also paying tribute to my brother,” Jermaine said. “It was just a spectacular moment.” Fans and critics have been split on the performance, which some saw as the bursting of an emotional dam for the singer, making his first major public appearance since he pleaded guilty to felony assault in his assault of former girlfriend Rihanna last June. Others speculated that Brown may have manufactured the tears to gain sympathy from fans who abandoned him in the wake of the Rihanna attack. Jermaine Jackson said he thought Brown — a longtime devotee of Michael’s and, at one point, considered a modern heir to the R&B throne — had every right to pay homage to his brother. “He deserves to perform, because it’s healing for him,” Jermaine said. “How can he learn from his mistakes if you don’t give him a chance? He needs that. I love Rihanna, and I’m not supporting what he did, but I support him [as a singer] 100 percent. … I’m just very emotional just knowing what has happened. Chris Brown is a human being, and we all make mistakes. We can’t condemn him for what has happened. We hope he has learned from it.” Brown hasn’t made any public statements since the BET performance, but on Monday, he did tweet , “My fans are my world,” a follow-up to a message earlier in the day when he wrote, “I Love you … (ever single one of #teambreezy).” What did you think of Chris Brown’s emotional performance? Stripper: Conrad Murray Brought Me to MJ’s House

A Los Angeles stripper claims the embattled Dr. Conrad Murray brought her home from Sam’s Hof Brau strip club weeks before Michael Jackson died last June. Whether that’s true, or what bearing it had on Murray’s treatment of Jackson that fateful morning is completely unclear, but Joe Jackson sees a connection. Michael’s father and his lawyer, Brian Oxman, will interview a stripper who not only claims Dr. Murray was at the strip club hours before Michael Jackson died, but that she was at Michael Jackson’s house after being invited by the doctor. The stripper, who claims she was working at Sam’s Hof Brau on June 24, 2009, says that Dr. Conrad Murray was at the club drinking just before midnight. Oxman, who is repping Joe in his wrongful death lawsuit against Murray, who faces involuntary manslaughter charges, has spoken with the stripper’s “rep.” The stripper claims weeks before Jackson died, Dr. Murray invited her to Jackson’s home in Holmby Hills. She claims she went late one night, after the club closed, and the King of Pop was there, however he was in a deep sleep. In Oxman’s letter of intent to sue Dr. Murray for the wrongful death of Jackson, he accused the doctor of drinking at Sam’s Hof Brau before treating MJ. Dr. Murray’s reps have strongly denied he was at the club on June 24, and even more adamantly, have said that the doctor does not drink … period. The death of Michael Jackson took place June 25, 2009.

Did Chris Brown Redeem Himself At BET Awards? Experts Weigh In

‘He couldn’t [apologize] enough; he had to prove it,’ Vibe contributor Erik Parker tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Chris Brown Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Chris Brown was the water-cooler topic of the day after his stirring Michael Jackson tribute at the 2010 BET Awards on Sunday night, when he broke down in tears as he attempted to sing “Man in the Mirror.” The embattled R&B singer reminded the world of his talent as he re-created MJ’s magical dance steps and sang a medley of his songs. But Brown’s onstage breakdown divided viewers : Was he emotionally overwhelmed by the moment, or were his tears a publicity stunt designed to garner favor after his assault of former girlfriend Rihanna ? “You forget what a good performer he is. I think over the past year, so much has been overshadowing that, from his album not selling to him claiming record stores are boycotting him to him being denied entry into Europe,” Alicia Quarles, Associated Press entertainment editor, told MTV News. “You forget that he’s a triple threat. The breakdown, I was skeptical of it. I didn’t know if it was genuine, if he was reflecting on everything he had gone through or if it was a PR opportunity . Either way, it was good for him. “It was supposed to be Prince’s big night , and El DeBarge made a comeback , Kanye West — but no one is talking about any of them,” Quarles continued. “Everybody is talking about Chris Brown, and it’s about doing something positive for once.” Since Brown assaulted Rihanna, he’s tried to apologize and relay his remorse, but the singer stumbled in an interview with Larry King when he said he couldn’t remember much about the altercation. He told MTV News he felt ashamed by his actions, but no matter what he said, he found himself still reviled by many. After his teary performance of “Man in the Mirror,” however, the tide of support seemed to tilt more his way. “I think people didn’t want to hear words from him. I don’t think they wanted to hear the words ‘I’m sorry,’ ” explained Erik Parker, who wrote a cover story on Brown for Vibe. “He couldn’t say anything enough; he had to prove it. For people to accept it, they had to first make him pay for it somehow, meaning put him through the wringer and get out all the anger they feel toward him. But he was unable to articulate how truly sorry he felt with just his words.” Parker recalled how upset Brown was that he was unable to perform at last year’s BET Awards, which occurred just days after Jackson’s death. He said it was fitting for Brown to find some sort of salvation one year after he would have originally had a chance to redeem himself onstage. Billboard magazine’s Gail Mitchell was in the house for Brown’s performance and said from the time he stepped onstage to the time he exited, the crowd was on its feet. The way Mitchell sees it, Brown has already admitted his fault and is diligently serving his community-labor service as part of his punishment for his actions, so she doesn’t understand why the singer isn’t allowed to move on more than a year after the assault. Brown explained himself perfectly, Mitchell said, when he accepted the Fandemonium Award later in the evening: “When he said, ‘I let you down earlier … I won’t let that happen again,’ I think that says it all.” What did you think of Chris Brown’s performance and breakdown?
