Michael Jackson’s Family To Attend Dr. Conrad Murray Hearing

Family members have asked court to reserve seats at procedural hearing for physician charged in Jackson’s death. By Jocelyn Vena Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images Michael Jackson ‘s physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, is expected to appear in a Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday (April 5) for a procedural hearing aimed at assigning a judge to his case and setting up a preliminary hearing date. Murray has already pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with Jackson’s death last June. The Associated Press reports that Jackson family members are expected to attend the hearing and have already notified the court officials of their attendance in order for seats to be reserved for them in the courtroom. Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said, “There will be more than a dozen, possibly as many as 15” family members there. Meanwhile, reports that Murray’s defense may argue that Jackson gave himself the fatal dose of Propofol. Sources tell the Web site that Murray’s attorney, Ed Chernoff, will argue that Murray gave Jackson a 25 mg dose of the drug, but that when the doctor left the room, Jackson awoke and “took the 20 ml bottle of Propofol and self-injected the remaining contents through the IV, causing a massive overdose that stopped his heart.” A rep for Murray, however, claimed to have no idea about this line of argument, telling “Access Hollywood” in a statement, “We do not know what sources to which TMZ is referring. We only know it didn’t come from [attorney] Ed [Chernoff], who has the final word.” The rep added that they “will not be trying the case in the press” and wanted to see how the prosecution intended to try the case. “In any case, it is premature to discuss defense strategy,” the rep continued. “Dr. Murray’s defense will depend on the People’s theory of prosecution, which has not yet been made available to the defense team.” Related Photos Family & Friends Say Goodbye To Michael Jackson Michael Jackson’s Greatest MTV Moments Michael Jackson: A Fashion Icon Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos Related Artists Michael Jackson

Joe Jackson Fumes at Conrad Murray Defense, Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Doc

Michael Jackson’s father, Joe, is “horrified” at the prospect of Dr. Conrad Murray’s legal team arguing that Michael Jackson killed himself with a lethal dose of Propofol. The defense believes MJ woke up shortly before noon on the day he died, when Dr. Conrad Murray stepped out of the room, and decided to up his dosage. Big time. Murray’s lawyers are ready to argue that Michael’s addictive personality makes it more than feasible that he injected far too much Propofol and stopped his heart. But Joe Jackson ain’t buying it. “I don’t believe it. It’s not true,” he said, asserting that Murray covered up evidence. “Why would he [Dr. Murray] hide all the bottles if such a story were true. The Coroner’s report shows the story is not true. It really upsets me to hear this.” Joe Jackson never met a Michael Jackson CD lawsuit he didn’t like . While Murray’s story definitely seems a bit out there, one can never really trust the motives of Michael’s father, either. Sure, he’s probably upset Michael died. But any chance to make money, he pounces on! Joe has also fired a wrongful death lawsuit against Murray, claiming he needs a big payday his actions were “reckless” and “amount to second degree murder.” Joe Jackson’s lawyer, Brian Oxman, won’t go that far, but adds, “His [Dr. Murray’s] story is medically inconsistent with the autopsy findings … I would need to see the photographs of the scene in order to assess his story.” He’s been saying for some time that the involuntary manslaughter charge against Murray is not enough . Looks like Joe’s now taking things into his own hands.

Michael Jackson Killed HIMSELF, Dr. Conrad Murray Says

We’ve been wondering ever since he was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Michael Jackson how Dr. Conrad Murray would try to explain it away. Now we know: He plans to argue that MJ did himself in. Murray’s legal defense will hinge on the argument that the pop icon gave himself the fatal dose of Propofol, a hospital-grade anesthesia authorities say killed him. The defense will argue how Michael Jackson was a long-time Propofol addict, and that “Michael liked to push it” via IV, to the point of going to extreme measures. His argument will try to refute that Murray covered up evidence , which the LAPD contends. The doctor’s story of MJ’s death timeline is likely to play out as such: What really happened on June 25? Only Michael Jackson and Dr. Conrad Murray know for sure, and the latter has a markedly different version of events than the LAPD. Around 10:50 a.m. on June 25, Dr. Conrad Murray gave Michael Jackson 25 mg of Propofol from a 20 ml bottle, which is only about 1/8 of the bottle. The dose Dr. Murray administered would keep someone asleep for only 5-10 minutes, but the Propofol, along with Ativan and Versed already in MJ’s system, had a synergistic effect that put Jackson to sleep for a longer period. For the next hour, Dr. Murray stayed in the room and was on the phone much of the time. He didn’t leave the room to make the calls because MJ liked activity in the room, regularly sleeping with the lights on and the TV blaring. Around noon, Murray left the room for approximately two minutes to go to the bathroom. While he was gone, the defense believes Jackson suddenly woke up, frustrated he had spent nearly nine hours trying in vain to sleep. The defense theory: MJ took the 20 ml bottle of Propofol, self-injected the remainder of it via IV and caused a massive overdose, stopping his heart. Dr. Murray found Jackson with eyes open and pupils dilated, dropped the phone (he was speaking with girlfriend Nicole Alvarez ) and performed CPR. What do you think of this theory by Dr. Conrad Murray? Is it at all legitimate, or is he just grasping at whatever legal straws he can find at this point?

Dr. Conrad Murray: Hangin’ By a Thread

As Dr. Conrad Murray’s April 5 hearing approaches, lawyers representing Michael Jackson’s former personal physician have filed legal papers fighting California Attorney General and medical board attempts to have his medical license revoked. Their rationale? Murray’s financial difficulties. “[Murray] is, without fear of overstatement, hanging on by a thread,” his attorney wrote . “His ability to pay for his own defense depends almost entirely on his ability to continue to treat patients.” Murray also owes child support payments. Dr. Conrad Murray pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges stemming from Jackson’s 2009 death, ruled a homicide after the singer died of “acute Propofol intoxication.” Murray is believed to have given Jackson Propofol. While losing his medical license in California won’t affect Murray’s finances directly – he has no patients or clinics in the state – Murray fears the medical board ruling would have a “domino effect” in states where he does practice, Texas and Nevada. In fact, California’s move already reached Nevada, where the medical board filed a formal complaint against Murray alleging that the doctor failed to report delinquent payments in his child support when filing to renew his medical license. That could result in the revocation of a Nevada license for Dr. Conrad Murray . “If Dr. Murray is unable to practice medicine in Texas, and especially Nevada, he will likely be faced with the inability to adequately defend himself of the charges facing him in the Superior Court of California,” Murray’s lawyers wrote. In addition to administering Jackson Propofol, a powerful sedative usually reserved for hospital use, court papers have also revealed that Murray is accused of halting CPR on Jackson in order to hide vials of sedatives before paramedics arrived.

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Fights To Keep Medical License

Murray is charged with manslaughter in the pop star’s 2009 death. By Kelley L. Carter Conrad Murray Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images Dr. Conrad Murray, who is being charged with manslaughter for the death of pop superstar Michael Jackson, has said in court papers that he must be granted the right to continue practicing medicine, otherwise, he won’t be able to pay for his defense in the case. Murray was responding to a bid by the California attorney general to suspend his license pending trial, The Associated Press reports. Attorneys for the doctor say if that were to happen, the results would be devastating for the financially strapped Murray. “He is, without fear of overstatement, hanging on by a thread,” the attorneys wrote. “His ability to pay for his own defense depends almost entirely on his ability to continue to treat patients.” Murray, who is due back in court on Monday, has pleaded not guilty to the involuntary-manslaughter charges brought up against him in Jackson’s death; the singer was administered anesthetic propofol and other drugs by Murray. Should he be suspended in California — where he no longer practices — his lawyers fear there might be a domino effect in Texas and Nevada, where the bulk of his practice is. “If Dr. Murray is unable to practice medicine in Texas, and especially Nevada, he will likely be faced with the inability to adequately defend himself of the charges facing him in the Superior Court of California,” his lawyers wrote. “The case with which he is charged will require intensive attorney work and fees. In light of the fact that much of his defense will be scientifically based and involves the death of an internationally famous decedent, expenses for his defense will be considerable.” Lawyers for Murray also say that should he be suspended, he’d struggle to pay child support. The AP also reports that court records show financial woes aren’t new to Murray, and they date back to when he signed on in May at $150,000 per month to keep Jackson healthy through a series of comeback shows planned in London. At that time, he owed at least $780,000 for settlements against his business, outstanding mortgage payments on his house, delinquent student loans, child support and credit cards. He also faced near foreclosure on his Las Vegas country-club home. In January, he made a payment of $1,003 on a $15,500 child-support debt involving a California woman and her 11-year-old son. The next month, he failed to appear at a Las Vegas court proceeding and was found in default on a $132,000 debt related to office and medical equipment and services.
