Kanye West: The Anatomy Of A Twitter Spree

Have trouble connecting the dots on Kanye’s string of tweets? MTV News breaks it down. Kanye West Photo: Getty Images Kanye West has never had a shortage of ideas, and on Wednesday night into Thursday morning (January 5), the rap star spoke — or, rather, wrote — his mind on Twitter in a 91-message manifesto. ‘Ye, who is currently in London, went off on a gang of topics, including his women’s fashion line , the Grammys, his design dreams for the MTV Video Music Awards and the vision for his new 22-division company DONDA. Unorganized but informative, Yeezy put the string of tweets into context on his 39th post, writing: “This is just a train of thought .. but figure it’s better to read than trained thoughts.” If you had trouble following ‘Ye’s 24-hour stream of creative consciousness, don’t worry — MTV News has you covered with this breakdown: Wednesday, 1 p.m. A gracious Yeezy takes to Twitter to thank everyone for supporting his women’s fashion line , which he unveiled in Paris back in October. Two hours later, ‘Ye corrects reports that the line is called DW. Key Tweet : “The name of the line is Kanye West not DW… The Dw was a design element placed on the invite in homage to my mom : )” Wednesday, 7 p.m. With plenty of time lapses between tweets, no one could have guessed what West had in store in the hours to come. He clearly started off slow, quoting Da Vinci for his fourth tweet of the day. Key Tweet : ” ‘Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.’ – Leonardo Da Vinci” Wednesday, 9 p.m. This just in: Kanye West is without representation after Cara Lewis got her Jerry Maguire on. Key Tweet : “More clarity… I have no agency representing me currently… William Morris was fired after Cara lewis quit. I love Cara Lewis : )” Wednesday, 11 p.m. West picks up the action. Inspired by his fashion workspace, Yeezy talks about how challenging and fun it is to work on clothing designs. It’s been an eight-year journey for the Louis Vuitton Don, who turned down offers to do an urban clothing line in favor of something more upscale. How are his fashion endeavors funded, you ask? All the Kanye concert tickets you’ve bought, of course. Key Tweet: “I did the first fashion show out of my own pocket and used the money I made touring to follow my passion.” Wednesday, midnight ‘Ye goes on a tear during the midnight hour, sending a whopping 48 tweets. It was approximately 5 a.m. in London, and Kanye couldn’t sleep because his dreams kept him “woke.” And what dreams he has. The rapper recounts his days hopping from Japan to Rome to Paris, interning at Fendi, working with Louis Vuitton, being courted by Versace and designing his Air Yeezys for Nike. What, you thought West was a newbie to the fashion game? No, he learned how to design shoes at the Giuseppe Zanotti factory and broke bread with fashion luminaries like Azzedine Ala

‘New Year’s Eve’ Stars Reveal How Not To Ring In 2012

‘Don’t be the first one on the dance floor,’ Zac Efron tells MTV News. By Christina Garibaldi Zac Efron Photo: MTV News New Year’s Eve is a night of celebration with family and friends, but it can also be one of the most-stressful nights of the year. Tough questions must be answered about what to do and what to wear in order to have a memorable end to the year. Well, we at MTV News can’t give you those answers, but with help from the stars of this year’s box office hit “New Year’s Eve,” we can tell you what not to do in order to avoid disaster as you ring in 2012. “[Don’t] plan an important evening,” Jessica Biel told us at the New York City premiere of “New Year’s Eve.” “Don’t do that, because it’s too much pressure. If you’re planning on having the best night of the year, you will have the worst night of the year. Do nothing, and then see what happens.” And it seems like co-star Abigail Breslin agrees that you can’t plan to have the perfect night. “[Don’t] put too much pressure on it; just let things happen, kind of like fate,” Breslin said. “Just let things go how they’re meant to go.” Director Garry Marshall has some advice for all those girls who are waiting for their New Year’s kiss: “Don’t wear a lot of lipstick, because with a little luck, they’re gonna kiss you, and you may kiss more than one guy!” Marshall said, laughing. If your plans entail heading out on the town, make sure you take Zac Efron’s advice before you bust out those dance moves. “Don’t be the first one on the dance floor — wait,” Efron said. “Let two people get out there, and then go get a circle going, then get it going, pop it out, Michael Jackson moves.” Still haven’t figured out your New Year’s plans? Check out MTV’s “NYE in NYC 2012” airing live at 11 p.m. ET/PT (10 Central) Saturday from Times Square. The event will be hosted by Demi Lovato and Tyler Posey with performances by Mac Miller, Selena Gomez, J. Cole and Jason Der

Heavy D’s Cause Of Death Announced

Rapper succumbed to pulmonary embolism, a result of a blood clot that traveled to his lung. By Rob Markman Heavy D Photo: Prince Williams/ FilmMagic Though he was only 44 years old, a medical examiner has concluded that Heavy D ‘s death last month was a result of natural causes. TMZ reported that Heavy, born Dwight Myers, died from a pulmonary embolism caused by deep vein thrombosis. Pulmonary embolism is usually caused by a blood clot formed in the leg that eventually travels up to the lung, stopping blood flow. In most cases, the clots formed aren’t deadly, but officials from L.A. County Coroner’s Office also told TMZ that the rapper suffered from heart disease and that may have been a contributing factor to his death as well. According to WebMD, common symptoms associated with pulmonary embolism are sudden shortness of breath, sharp chest pains, lightheadedness and fainting. Police reported that on November 8 they arrived at Heavy D’s Beverly Hills home after a call was made to report an unconscious man. When the cops arrived, they found the rapper conscious, though he had difficulty breathing. The self-proclaimed Overweight Lover was then transported to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. TMZ also reported that a flight that Heavy took back from Europe after performing at a Michael Jackson tribute concert in Wales may have been a factor in his death as well. It is believed that the blood clots formed in Heavy’s legs due to his prolonged immobility on the long flight. Heavy was laid to rest on November 18. The night before his funeral, his brother Floyd Myers spoke with MTV News about his brother’s health from his family’s home, apparently unaware of Heavy’s heart disease. “Heavy was in great shape,” Myers said. “You guys seen him at the BET Awards, and he just did the tribute to Michael Jackson; they flew him out to London to do that. Heav was in good shape, healthy, no heart problems. He constantly made sure that his health was in check.” At the time, the initial autopsy report had come back inconclusive and Heavy’s family, friends and fans were still searching for answers. Still, rather than speculate, Heav’s brother remembered the positivity that the rapper exhibited in his life. “He loved family, and that’s who he was, but it wasn’t too much different from how he treated his friends and his fans,” he said. “He showed everybody love and affection, and we’re gonna miss that.” Related Videos Remembering Heavy D Related Photos Heavy D: Life, Music And Friends Related Artists Heavy D & The Boyz

Michael Jackson’s Daughter, Paris, Visits ‘Ellen’

Paris reveals best advice Michael gave her. By Gil Kaufman Paris Jackson appears on “Ellen” Photo: Warner Bros Paris Jackson will give her first-ever solo interview on Thursday morning (December 15) when she appears on “The Ellen DeGenres Show” to promote her upcoming acting debut. After a cloistered childhood, Paris, 13, the only daughter of late pop icon Michael Jackson , opened up to Ellen about her formerly sheltered life and how her dad’s music inspired her acting. In excerpts released before the airing, Paris explained that her dad helped her prepare for her upcoming first movie role, in which she’ll play Lundon in “Lundon’s Bridge and the Three Keys,” an adaptation of the fantasy series based on writer Dennis Christen’s novels. “When I was really little my dad was in the movie ‘Moonwalker’ and I knew he could sing really well but I didn’t know he could act,” she said. “I saw that and I said, ‘Wow, I want to be just like him.’ ” She said Michael also gave her at-home acting lessons. “We would do improv together. He would give us little scenarios. He would (say), ‘OK, in this scene you’re going to cry’ and I’d cry on the spot.” In one of the most (literally) revealing moments, Paris explained what it felt like for herself and her siblings, Prince and Blanket, to wear disguises for most of their young lives. “I’m like, ‘This is stupid. Why am I wearing a mask?’ But I kind of realized the older I got like he only tried to protect us and he’d explain that to us too,” she said. The masks, in fact, helped the three kids live as normal a life as they possibly could considering that their dad was one of the most-sought-after paparazzi targets on earth. “I do have like a regular childhood,” she said. “I mean, I’m treated the same. When I came to [my new school] they didn’t know who I was. I was like, ‘Yes, I have a chance to be normal.'” When asked if she realized how big a deal her dad was when she was a child, Paris admitted, “I just thought, ‘He’s got a few songs out,’ but I figured everyone did that.” In the action-animation hybrid “Lundon,” Paris will voice the lead character, a human, in a fantasy adventure in which “sea magic turns a dolphin into a human, a teenage boy into a dragonfly and a loving jellyfish queen into an evil fairy godmother.” Among the other voices in the movie are former CNN personality Larry King and his wife, Shawn, and ex ‘NSYNC member Joey Fatone. Paris told DeGeneres that her dad warned her before his surprise death in June 2009 that he would not be around forever. “He said, ‘If I die tomorrow always remember what I told you.’ I took his advice and I remembered everything he told me,” she said. Michael Jackson Doctor Can’t Afford Lawyer For Appeal

Conrad Murray asks judge for a court-appointed attorney to appeal his involuntary manslaughter conviction. By Gil Kaufman Dr. Conrad Murray Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images Just weeks after being sent to jail for four years following a conviction on a felony involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of Michael Jackson , cardiologist Conrad Murray is throwing himself on the mercy of the court. The doctor had been slated to earn up to $150,000 a month to act as Jackson’s personal physician before the pop icon’s death in June 2009 from an overdose of the Murray-administered surgical anesthetic propofol. But on Tuesday E! News reported that Murray filed a notice of appeal in Los Angeles Superior Court in which he claimed that he is “indigent and respectfully requests the appointment of counsel on appeal.” Murray, 58, is planning to appeal both his conviction and his sentence, but has not year filed papers with the California Appeals Court. He had hired two lawyers to handle his manslaughter case, but is now seeking attorneys with appeal experience. One of those former lawyers, J. Michael Flanagan, told E! that he was shocked at how his client is being treated in jail. “It is crazy and unbelievable how [the sheriffs] are treating” Murray in jail, said Flanagan, who claimed he waited over an hour to see Murray, who was brought out in handcuffs and leg chains. Flanagan was further shocked to see Murray handcuffed to the table for their meeting, something the lawyer said he’d never seen before in the case of a low-level, non-violent offender. Charles Peckham, who is handling civil cases against Murray, told the Associated Press that his client is under tight security and isolation that is more intense than other inmates at the Los Angeles Men’s Central Jail. “Treating him like Hannibal Lecter is offensive,” said Peckham. Sheriff’s officials defended the tight security, saying it was for Murray’s safety. “This man who saved lives made a mistake, and they’re going to him pay like a mass-murderer.” Related Photos Michael Jackson: A Life In Photos Related Artists Michael Jackson
