Guns N’ Roses Announce Six U.S. Tour Dates

Axl Rose and company to revisit NYC venue where they performed their ‘Live at the Ritz’ concerts 24 years ago. By Andrea Duncan-Mao Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose Photo: Evan Agostini/Getty Images All that’s old is new again. Axl Rose and his revamped Guns N’ Roses will revisit their beloved New York when they launch their Northeast tour in February. In 2011, the band completed a sold-out international tour and will kick off 2012 with a series of intimate shows in the States, starting with New York. Beginning February 10, they will perform a three-show series in the city, the cornerstone of which will be at the club Webster Hall, which was originally called the Ritz. This is where GN’R played one of their most famous concerts, “Live at the Ritz,” in 1998. For their return, the venue will revert to its original name, complete with new signage and marquee, and fans can wax nostalgic about the days when Guns were the biggest band on the planet. Additional cities include Chicago; Silver Spring, Maryland; and Atlantic City, New Jersey. No word yet if more dates will be announced. The stark difference this time around is that the original members of the group — namely Duff McKagan, Slash and Izzy Stradlin — will not be there. Axl remains the only original member in this latest incarnation of GN’R, and the latest crew has yet to release a new album. The last Guns N’ Roses release was back in 2008 with Chinese Democracy. McKagan currently lives in Seattle and has had success with his bands Velvet Revolver and Loaded, while the top-hat-wearing Slash, who was also in Velvet Revolver, has guested on tracks from Michael Jackson and Rihanna and is a major figure in the “Guitar Hero” video games. ‘American Idol’ Already Belongs To Phillip Phillips

Season 11 contestant is a mashup of every male winner in show’s history. By Jim Cantiello Phillip Phillips on American Idol’s season premiere Photo: FOX Last night’s 14-hour “American Idol” premiere presented the usual suspects of hopefuls. To paraphrase judge (and hideous eyewear collector) Randy Jackson at the end of the Savannah, Georgia, trip, “We came, we saw, we mocked immigrants’ accents, we patronized and lusted after hot girls, we competently read off of producers’ notes, we conquered.” Then, just as the expected parade of planted craycrays and daughters of sports athletes wrapped up, “Idol” introduced its eventual season 11 winner, Phillip Phillips. First let’s talk his name. It’s so ridiculous, it’s awesome. You’ll never forget it. Not to get all numerologist on you, but for season 11, a digit comprised of “one” repeated twice, a name like Phillip Phillips is destined to end up on top. At least he is in a pretentious overwritten novel. But Phillip Phillips’ unavoidable victory truly comes into focus once you realize that he’s a tried-and-true mashup of every male winner in the show’s 10-year history. Musically, Phillip 2 is a Dave Matthews worshipper (hi, season nine’s Lee DeWyze!) with the Joe Cocker mannerisms of season five’s Taylor Hicks. His first audition song was a Stevie Wonder classic. (Sophomore class president Ruben Studdard made his first impression with a Stevie song, too.) And just when you thought fellow contestant Colton Dixon had the David Cook fans in his corner by singing the season seven winner’s “Permanent” (and sharing a passion for haircuts tragique), Phillips rocked a “Thriller” of an encore: a white-dude twist on a Michael Jackson fave

Family of Michael Jackson No Longer Seeking Money From Dr. Conrad Murray

Michael Jackson’s family has apparently realized the obvious: As much as they want Dr. Conrad Murray to pay dearly for his role in the King of Pop’s death, the physician is flat broke and the music icon is worth nine figures. You can’t get blood from a stone, and thus, prosecutors will no longer seek more than $100 million in restitution from Murray at the request of Jackson’s family. A rep for the L.A. County D.A.’s Office says prosecutors withdrew the motion and a hearing scheduled for Monday has been called off at the family’s request. Murray was convicted and sentenced for involuntary manslaughter last year. Murray, who’s already serving his four-year jail sentence for his role in the death of MJ, is basically broke, with a revoked medical license halting future income. It’s unclear how he plans to earn money once he’s released, but he fought having to pay restitution and it appears MJ’s family concluded it wasn’t worth it. The time and legal fees necessary to battle for scraps that wouldn’t change the family standard of living, or more importantly bring MJ back, was fruitless.

Molly Sims: Pregnant With First Child!

Molly Sims is going to be mommy Sims. The 38-year-old model, jewelry designer and actress is expecting her first child with her new husband Scott Stuber, her rep confirmed this afternoon. “There are simply no words to describe the feeling,” Sims wrote. “I finally get what they mean when they say pregnant women glow.” Sims explained that a “first pregnancy is a nerve-wracking experience of course, but mostly we are just thrilled and excited. We can’t wait to meet him or her.” Sims also shared how she broke the news to Scott Stuber , 42. “I hijacked a fortune cookie and typed a new message so that when he opened his cookie at the end of the meal, he found out he was going to be a daddy.” “You can only imagine how nervous I was during the entire meal – I think I ate a total of two bites – but the look of surprise and joy on his face was priceless.” Stuber, who produced Love and Other Drugs , popped the question in May 2011. The couple married in September. Congratulations on the impending arrival! [Photo: WENN.com]

Dr. Conrad Murray: You Want Me to Pay, Too?!

Dr. Conrad Murray wants the judge in his criminal manslaughter case to deny Michael Jackson’s family restitution, arguing that MJ was responsible for his demise. Murray was convicted and sentenced for involuntary manslaughter already. That is set in stone. However, he is still fighting the restitution the star’s family seeks. Murray is asking for evidence the defense never received during the trial – evidence he claims could show Michael self-administered the fatal dose of Propofol. Murray’s lawyer, J. Michael Flanagan, argues that – guilty verdict aside – in deciding how much restitution the family gets, the victim’s responsibility matters. So Murray will concede he’s partly to blame (he can’t argue otherwise because of the conviction) but he still wants to prove that Jackson caused his own death. The prosecution is asking for around $100 million in restitution, but the judge hasn’t decided on a figure. The level of culpability will ultimately play into that. Once the figure is set, if Flanagan gets his way and the judge were to decide MJ was 50 percent responsible, the judge would reduce restitution by 50 percent. Also complicating matters? Murray is pretty much broke, and if anything, Jackson’s family has profited from his death. So … the judge has a lot to ponder.
