Chelsea Handler and Andre Balazs have called it quits after less than a year of dating, her rep confirmed earlier today. The couple first went public in May. Handler told Piers Morgan Tonight about her relationship then: “I’m seeing someone now, but, I have spent so much time exposing my personal life to everybody that I finally am in a situation where I feel like it’s disrespectful to another individual … I’ve learned to respect somebody else’s privacy.” Handler, whose exes include 50 Cent, Animal Planet’s Dave Salmoni and Comcast CEO Ted Harbert, explained, “It’s not about me, ’cause I would like to make fun of him as much as possible, but he has kids, so I have to be nice.” When asked whether she was in love with Andre Balazs , she replied: “I have very strong feelings.” Too bad they didn’t last longer, but what are you gonna do. Former MTV News anchor Kurt Loder was asked to weigh in on the Conrad Murray verdict this morning in an interview, and shared his thoughts on the situation. On Jeff and Jeremy in the Morning, Loder was asked if he thought MJ’s death was a tragedy. He replied that it was, but that the star was also a child molester, so … Here’s what Loder said on that topic, unprovoked: Kurt Loder Criticizes Michael Jackson “Its a shame how he grew up … his childhood was a shame … there are many sad aspects to his life … on the other hand, I think he was a child molester,” Loder said. “That sort of tempers any feelings you might have about him.” Asked why he believed MJ molested kids, Loder cited Jackson’s bizarre behavior and alleged secret payouts to parents, but did not go into specifics. Regarding some of Michael’s past actions, he said, “Having sleepovers with little boys, and you’re a 40 year old man??? Uh, NO. You’re like a child molester.” “Maybe being a child molester is the product of a pretty terrible childhood … you can see why that might happen. On the other hand, molesting children is bad.” Do you agree with Loder’s comments? Is he just telling it like it is, or out of line, given that it’s unrelated to his death, and the allegations were never proven?
We reflect on late hip-hop legend’s career and impact on the next generation. By Kelley L. Carter Heavy D Photo: Ethan Miller/ Getty Images There was this odd but super cool sound that rolled off Heavy D ‘s tongue that we all tried to emulate. It was his melodic calling card; it was the key thing he inserted into Heavy D & the Boyz ‘ “We Got Our Own Thang.” Its significance was cemented in pop culture when he guest-starred in a 1989 episode of one of the era’s hottest sitcoms, “A Different World.” He was set to be a featured performer at a fundraiser on the show, and the pompous, pretentious Whitley wasn’t having it. “I’ll tell you what lacks melody is that diddly diddly diddly diddly diddly dee,” she drawled, displaying her disgust for hip-hop, completely unaware that she was, in fact, bemoaning Heavy D himself. Heav, playing a caricature of himself (and an old junior high friend of Dwayne Wayne), laughed and shrugged it off. We all chuckled with the laugh track as Whitley realized her mistake and Heavy showed her the right way to do the thing that had all of us — in the ‘hood, in the ‘burbs and in the sticks — trying to copy him every time we heard one of his wicked, uptempo tracks. We next see him onstage, doing that infamous Heavy D shake, performing the track “Somebody for Me,” the single that questioned — and longed for — a woman’s affections for the man who dubbed himself the Overweight Lover. Heavy D, born Dwight Arrington Myers, died Tuesday (November 8) at an L.A. hospital. He was a young 44. TMZ is reporting that a 911 call was placed from his Beverly Hills home around 11:25 a.m. PT to report an unconscious male on the walkway. When help arrived, the entertainer was conscious and speaking and was taken to the hospital. He died shortly thereafter. Heav was that kind of touchable performer. We felt comfortable with his Overweight Lover nickname — he was the big guy who could move. His size never stopped him. He moved in ways that intimidated the slimmest dude in the crowd. He was smooth, dapper and celebrated the around-the-way-girl through song; his music helped soundtrack 10th-grade dances near and far, and his colorful, danceable and at times sensitive brand of hip-hop clearly proved to be wildly influential to new-millennium household names like Diddy or Drake. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who came up after Heavy D that doesn’t cite him as an influence — and if they didn’t say it out loud, their showmanship certainly was a giveaway. He brought professionalism to live hip-hop shows, and because he fancied a variety of music and musical stylings, his shows were thought-out, deliberate and defined all that New Jack Swing embodied. Heavy brought the bounce to hip-hop and his smooth delivery made every woman look at big boys with new eyes. He was sexy — so were his lyrics, and so was his style. He was one of few rappers to collaborate with Michael Jackson (he rapped on “Jam”), and we all applauded when he linked up with Janet Jackson for an “Alright” remix. His death is tragic for a number of reasons. Until last month, we hadn’t seen Heavy perform live onstage in 15 years. When he hit the stage back in October for the BET Hip Hop Awards , he showed the young guys that he could still swing with the new New Jacks. He also showed off an amazing 135-pound weight loss, but his hip-hop moniker was still fitting for a guy who gave so much to a musical genre that continues to shape pop culture. Even past his hit-producing hip-hop prime, Heavy continued to be a force in entertainment . He’d often dabbled in film and television, and most recently. we saw him in an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and the just-released “Tower Heist.” Some of hip-hop’s biggest luminaries tweeted their affections for the rapper Tuesday. It was undeniable what he brought to the genre. He was one of the biggest who ever did it — and he got there because he did his own thang. Share your memories of Heavy D on Facebook. ‘There’s no other experience,’ one fan tells MTV News of the Throne’s first stop in Jay’s hometown New York City. By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Kanye West and Jay-Z in “Watch The Throne” tour (file) Photo: The Washington Post/Getty Images Jay-Z and Kanye West brought their much-heralded Watch the Throne Tour to New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday night after two shows at New Jersey’s IZOD Center over the weekend. After kicking off the eagerly anticipated jaunt last week in Atlanta, the Throne began their trek north, stopping in North Carolina, and now they’ll stay put for one additional show at the Garden on Tuesday night (November 8). MTV News headed to the show on Monday, where the allure of seeing Jay and Kanye run through their catalog of hits at the World’s Most Famous Arena wasn’t lost on fans who filed into the newly renovated stadium for a 9:30 p.m. start time. Sticking to the script of their previous shows, the duo opened up with the WTT bonus track “H.A.M,” but “Welcome to the Jungle” hit a soft spot when Jay-Z spit his line, “Rest in peace to the leader of the Jackson 5.” The reference was especially touching just hours after the guilty verdict in the Michael Jackson manslaughter case was finally passed down. As expected, Jay and ‘Ye performed their #1 single “Ni–as in Paris” multiple times during the show’s final minutes, adding in a mix of Jay-Z’s early hits like “Lucifer” and “Money Ain’t a Thing,” along with Kanye’s “Get Em High” and “All Falls Down.” And post-show, fans who spoke to MTV News were still brimming with excitement. “This is where it all started,” said one excited fan, referring to Jay-Z’s first hometown stop on the tour. “This is where he’s gonna start, this is where he’s gonna finish, so this is the best feeling ever. If you’re a Jay-Z fan — or anybody’s fan for that matter — you’ve gotta see them in the Garden. There’s no other experience.” “It was unreal to watch them together, feeding off each other’s chemistry,” another fan added, after watching Jay and ‘Ye throw it down. “Watching them own the stage like they did — it was ridiculous.” The Throne will perform one additional show at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night before they head to Florida. Lindsay Lohan will soon be seen totally nude in Playboy. But she’ll bare more than her vadge in the men’s mag. Reps for Lohan and for Playboy confirmed Monday that the 25-year-old starlet will be featured in both pictures and words in the upcoming January/February issue. “The pictorial is absolutely fantastic and very tasteful,” her rep says, “and will be accompanied by an interview that will let readers see another side of Lindsay.” The so-called “tasteful” Playboy pics will be “very classy,” the magazine’s founder Hugh Hefner tells The Insider, with the final product becoming ” a classic tribute inspired by original Tom Kelly nude pictorials of Marilyn Monroe.” She’s pretty much already done that, but what can you do. In 2008, New York Magazine did a Lindsay Lohan nude / Marilyn Monroe themed spread, with LiLo saying she was “comfortable” being photographed in the buff. You can see the new naked pics of Lindsay – who spent a whopping four hours in jail this week – in late December. We know your calendar is already marked. Michael Jackson’s family members were understandably thrilled by Monday’s guilty verdict against Dr. Conrad Murray , feeling that justice was finally served. Throughout the doctor’s six-week involuntary manslaughter trial, his brothers and sisters always felt his presence. Now they can take some solace in a victory. MJ’s family cried, shouted and finally gave a sigh of relief – literally, in the case of La Toya Jackson, heard in the video below – after the judgment was read. Dr. Conrad Murray Verdict Reading “He was in the courtroom and that’s why victory was served,” La Toya told CNN Headline News while leaving the courthouse through a swarm of reporters. Added his other, less ridiculous sister Rebbie: “I’m just happy it’s over with. Nothing will bring him back, but I’m just happy (Dr. Murray) was found guilty.” Jackson’s mother Katherine quietly dabbed tears, then went home to tell Michael’s kids the verdict. As she did throughout the trial, she did not allow them to attend nor watch on TV, but provided them first-hand updates herself every day. “We have been waiting for this moment for a very long time, and we couldn’t hold back tears in the courtroom,” Katherine, 81, told TMZ in a brief statement. Did the jury get it right?
Nancy Grace likely jived her way off Dancing With the Stars last night. Already a huge underdog to make it beyond the top five, the pressure started to get to her early on “Are you actually acting tired?” she snapped at Tristan MacManus. “You don’t have twins that get up at 5, you don’t have a full-time job and I do!” MacManus’ reply: “I’m tired of you.” “I’m tired of you, too! So there!” she retorted. They were mostly jokinh, but that still set the tone for their instant jive, which you can see below. Nancy clearly doesn’t have enough left in the tank at this point: Nancy Grace on Dancing With the Stars (Week 8 – Jive) The pair failed to impress the judges, who awarded a mere 20 out of 30 points. There have been worse routines, but that was far below the rest of the Dancing With the Stars scores Monday. Earlier in the night, they earned 24 for their tango.
