Lindsay Lohan Skipped Alcohol Education Classes, Hearing Reveals

In an impassioned letter, actress’ estranged dad asks court to send his daughter to an inpatient rehab facility. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan (file) Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images It was a rough day in court for Lindsay Lohan on Tuesday (July 6) during an appearance to determine whether she violated her probation in a 2007 DUI case . The hearing turned into an hours-long marathon that featured an impassioned letter from the “Mean Girls” star’s estranged father and allegations that she’d skipped court-mandated alcohol-education classes and broke her probation by drinking. According to TMZ , the co-owner of the Right On program — where Lohan was supposed to be attending alcohol-education classes once a week — said Lindsay violated the program several times by failing to attend the courses. In both May and August 2009, Right On’s Cheryl Marshall told the judge that Lohan was not in compliance with the program and had deemed her excuses for missing classes as “endless and disrespectful.” In all, Marshall told judge Marsha Revel that Lohan missed classes on nine separate occasions. Conscious of not starting off on the wrong foot with the judge, Lohan, 24, showed up to court 10 minutes early, dressed in a conservative black T-shirt and dark slacks. Some things went Lohan’s way, though, as when Revel ruled that prosecutors could not present alleged eyewitness evidence that Lindsay was drinking at an MTV Movie Awards afterparty on June 7, the night her SCRAM bracelet went off, signaling the presence of alcohol. People magazine reported that Judge Revel said Lohan’s blood alcohol level tested “at .03 just before midnight on June 7, and by 4 a.m. it was back to zero.” Lohan’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, argued that the alert may have been a false reading. If Lohan is found guilty of violating her probation, she could face up to six months in jail. TMZ also reported that Lohan — who was reportedly punched in the face during a birthday celebration at a Los Angeles bar last week — was served with papers in a civil lawsuit on her way into the courthouse for Tuesday morning’s session. In that suit, she is being sued for allegedly not paying for more than $17,000 worth of clothing and accessories from a store called Church. Though Revel would not let father Michael Lohan read his letter in court, TMZ reportedly obtained a copy of the document, in which Michael begs the judge to make sure Lindsay’s prescription-drug use is carefully monitored. Knowing that Revel could send his daughter to jail for the alleged violations, Lohan begged the court to avoid that measure on a number of grounds. “Your honor is aware that because of the current overcrowding in Los Angeles jails, misdemeanor, non-violent offenders like Lindsay serve only a fraction of their terms,” read the letter from Michael Lohan’s attorney. “In Lindsay’s case, her last term of incarceration lasted only 84 minutes. This not only made a laughingstock of our criminal justice system in the eyes of the world … but taught her that jail is a revolving door and poses no real threat or deterrent.” Should Revel find Lohan guilty, Michael asked that the judge consider sending his daughter to a “very private” inpatient residential rehab facility in New York, which, unlike the other rehabs Lindsay’s been to, would include family therapy. If Lohan was not found guilty, Michael supports an order to make her keep wearing the SCRAM bracelet and receiving random drug tests. Finally, “Michael also respectfully requests that Lindsay’s prescription-drug use be carefully monitored via the random drug testing. As the court is well aware, prescription-drug abuse is an epidemic among young people. If prescription drugs are excluded from testing, Lindsay may use that loophole to become intoxicated and pose a danger to herself and others. Michael desperately wants to avoid seeing his daughter become the next Hollywood statistic.” At press time, Judge Revel had not yet ruled in the case. Related Artists Lindsay Lohan

Gregory Michael: Vienna Girardi and I Made Out!

ABC can bleep his name all it wants, but Greek ‘s Gregory Michael is caught in the middle of the Breakup of the Century between Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi. In last night’s explosive interview on The Bachelorette , Jake accused his ex-fiancee of cheating with Michael, which she denied. “There [was] nothing,” she said. Michael says there was something, alright. “That’s a lie,” the actor told Us Weekly . “We definitely made out that weekend [June 20] and Vienna made it very clear that it was over between her and Jake.” Girardi said they only danced for less than “nine seconds,” but Michael counters: “I wouldn’t say we danced for a few seconds. We danced as a group all night.” “We also danced alone for parts of the evening.” Was Vienna Girardi lying about her dalliances with Gregory Michael during last night’s tell-all interview – and is Jake’s now-single ex seeing the Greek star now? Michael says she did tell the truth when she told Jake Pavelka that she hardly knew him: “At the time the interview was conducted, we hardly knew each other.” But he took aim at Jake when the former Bachelor star referred to him directly when saying, “That boy told me you cheated when he went on-the-record.” “I never said she cheated ,” Michael insisted. “I said we hooked up and she said they were broken up. I would never do that if she was in a relationship.” He says he doesn’t know anything about Pavelka’s claim that Vienna Girardi hooked up with other guys: “I don’t know what flings Jake is referring to.” The ABC interview ended with Vienna storming out in tears after Jake raised his hand in anger and stunningly reprimanded her for interrupting him. What do you think? Do you believe Vienna? Does this swing your opinion back toward Jake at all? Rolling Stone Writer That Took Down McChrystal Gets Book Deal

The Rolling Stone magazine writer that took down General Stanley McChrystal a few weeks ago has been rewarded with a significant book deal. One source says Michael Hastings will get seven figures for his “unprecedented behind-the-scenes account of America’s longest war.” According to Forbes, publishing house Little, Brown will release the following statement later on Tuesday: A forthcoming UNTITLED book by renowned journalist Michael Hastings, author of the Rolling Stone article “The Runaway General” which revealed shocking truths about General McChrystal and the war in Afghanistan, that promises an unprecedented behind-the-scenes account of America’s longest war, to Geoff Shandler, Editor in Chief, Little, Brown and Company, by Scott Moyers at the Wylie Agency. The book will offer an unfiltered look at the war, and the soldiers, diplomats and politicians who are waging it. Based on exclusive reporting in Afghanistan, Europe, the Middle East and Washington, D.C., this landmark work of journalism will elucidate as never before our deeply troubling war in vivid, unforgettable detail. Little, Brown Publisher Michael Pietsch says, “In his brilliant article Michael Hastings has already given us the clearest of insights into the disaster of America’s war in Afghanistan. He is a writer of extraordinary talent and his book will take us deeper and further into the war and its major architects, at a time when we need that clarity desperately.” Mediaite is reporting , “Rumor has it the book went for seven figures, which is a rather serious chunk of change in this publishing environment.” Indeed. This seems pricey for at least two reasons. First, Hastings may have given what he had to Rolling Stone making it possible his book is just an elaboration of what he’s already published. Maybe more importantly, how’s he going to get any new information given his questionable journalistic standards involving telling folks things are off the record when they are apparently not? Regardless, it will be interesting to see whether he offers any new revelations that bring down anyone else. Stay tuned.

George Michael’s Driving And Drugging Woes

The singer’s latest driving-related arrest caps off years of erratic behavior behind the wheel. By Mawuse Ziegbe George Michael Photo: Live 8/ Getty Images In his latest headline-making turn behind the wheel, pop singer George Michael was arrested on Sunday in London on suspicion of being unfit to drive. Michael was taken to a London police station after cops received reports that a car had smashed into a building. While the weekend crash recalls a scene from, say, “The Dukes of Hazzard” or “Cops,” the collision was just another mark on Michael’s growing list of rowdy (and often drug-related) automotive incidents. Michael shot to fame in the 1980s as a member of the Brit pop duo Wham! and later found solo success with hits like “Faith,” “I Want Your Sex” and “Father Figure.” After getting arrested in a Beverly Hills restroom and being charged with “engaging in a lewd act” in 1998 — a move that sparked massive media attention and eventually led the singer to both acknowledge his sexuality and spoof the incident in the video for his single “Outside” — Michael has lit up headlines in recent years more for his erratic behavior than for his hit-making prowess. 2006 – Authorities arrested Michael after the star was found slumped over in a car and blocking traffic in central London . The singer was detained on suspicion of possessing Class C drugs (Class C drugs include a range of substances, such as marijuana and painkillers) and then released on bail. Michael was involved in a similar incident just a few months later. Once again, the star was found knocked out in a vehicle and then crashed into a traffic divider when a fellow driver woke him. 2007 – Michael was barred from driving for two years after crashing into three parked vehicles and failing to notify the owners of the cars before driving away. 2008 – Even on foot, the star continued to run into trouble. The singer was arrested on drug-possession charges after an attendant caught Michael in a public restroom in London (a seemingly favored haunt for the troubled singer) with a “small amount” of marijuana and crack cocaine. Luckily for the star, Michael was not charged and was sent along with a cautionary warning. 2009 – In what appears to be an annual trend for the singer, Michael was arrested again after he crashed his Land Rover into a truck . The star was questioned and then released and later denied being inebriated in a statement: “Neither of us [the truck driver nor Michael] was charged because we were both stone cold sober.” The star added, “I don’t want my fans or my family worried by what they are reading all over again.” Related Artists George Michael

George Michael Crashes Car Into Building, Arrested

Another year, another arrest for George Michael. The singer was taken in Sunday night on suspicion of being unfit to drive, following a bizarre accident in which he crashed his car into a London building. The BBC has confirmed that Michael was behind the wheel and has been released on bail. This is just the latest in a series of arrests for Michael. He faced drug possession charges in 2007 when he was found slumped over the wheel of his vehicle in Hyde Park. Two years later, he was arrested for DUI, but released without charges. In a statement, the singer says: “I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again, and to promise them I’ll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them.” We have no idea what George Michael is talking about. The guy is many things. Boring is not one of them.
