Stephen Dorff Describes ‘Immortals’ As ‘ ‘300’ Meets ‘Gladiator’ ‘

‘I could end up having horns coming out of my head, and wings,’ Dorff joked about the final product. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Stephen Dorff Photo: MTV News For those anxious to see more of Stephen Dorff after his critically acclaimed role in Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere,” you won’t have to wait too long to see him back on the big screen. Dorff’s next film is the buzzworthy “Immortals,” directed by visionary filmmaker Tarsem Singh (“The Fall,” “The Cell”), which also stars Mickey Rourke, Kellan Lutz, Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto. When MTV News caught up with Dorff recently, we asked him for his take on the film. “So much of that movie is going to be done in post [production],” he said, adding that he has no idea what it will look like when it’s finished. “I could end up having horns coming out of my head, and wings,” Dorff joked. “I don’t know what’s going to happen.” The veteran actor described “Immortals” as ” ‘300’-meets-‘Gladiator.’ ” “[There’s] a lot of testosterone,” he said. “A beautiful girl, Freida Pinto, brings the innocence and femininity to the movie and she’s really great. I found her great to work with.” With regard to his onscreen action with Rourke, who plays the villainous King Hyperion, Dorff said that again, due to the amount of visual effects that will need to be added to the film, he’s unsure of what the final product will look like. “Mickey kinda is in this mask for most of the movie, so I don’t know how it’s going to be in the final cut, but he looked great. I had most of my [scenes] with Freida and this other character [Theseus, played by Henry Cavill]. John Hurt is in it as well.” Dorff went on to say that he is sure the film will be great, but that the larger scope of the production was a big change from the intimate environment he worked in on “Somewhere.” “Whenever you do something that big — especially coming from ‘Somewhere’ — I always get a little nervous,” Dorff admitted. “But I have to keep moving until Sophia does another movie, or another filmmaker I’d love to work with does another movie. … I have to hopefully pick the right things. I’m trying to be careful with what I do next,” he said. Check out everything we’ve got on “Somewhere.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Cameron Diaz in a Bikini of the Day

I am all for seeing pics of anyone in a bikini, especailly Cameron Diaz, because I’ve always thought she had it going on a decade ago and she carried herself into old age pretty fucking gracefully, that was before seeing these pictures of her ripped, thick barrel-chested Mickey Rourke lookin’ body. Seriously, I don’t think this is even a chick anymore….sure it’s in a bikini….but I’m not convinced until I see pussy lip. All this to say that aging is a horrible thing.

Megan Fox Clarifies Mickey Rourke Tattoo Comments

‘It’s not necessarily an homage to him,’ she says of the ink that reminds her of ‘Passion Play’ co-star. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Megan Fox Photo: MTV News Anyone familiar with the ever-changing Internet news cycle should know to tread carefully where celebrity stories are concerned, particularly those that involve engaged actresses falling in love with co-stars and expressing that emotion via tattoos. Case in point, a chat we had with Megan Fox back in June, wherein the easy-on-the-eyes actress revealed to MTV News that she feels a special bond with her “Passion Play” co-star Mickey Rourke — so much so that she got inked in his honor . “I actually got a tattoo that is sort of in honor of him,” she told us at the time. “It’s on my ribs. I don’t know if it’s been photographed yet, but it’ll come out eventually, I’m sure. I just love him very much and think he’s very special.” Incredibly enough, that little blurb was taken out of context by several outlets of the tabloid variety. So when we ran into Fox again recently, she helped clarify the rumor-gone-wild. “Maybe it was your fault,” Fox said at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting “Passion Play.” “But it turned into, even though I was in love with [husband] Brian [Austin Green] , it turned into that I was secretly in love with Mickey Rourke and got a tattoo to release the angst,” she said. “It was not about that. I have a tattoo that is a Nietzsche quote that sort of basically is about marching to the beat of your own drummer and not being afraid to do that. I was saying that it reminds me of Mickey, of course, because he clearly is not marching to anyone else’s drummer, drumbeat, and that’s all. It’s not necessarily an homage to him.” And there you have it, Megan Fox fans: ink explained. Everyone Welcome Back Manohla Dargis!

After a nearly two-and-a-half month hiatus, the gifted and beloved NY Times critic Manohla Dargis returns today with a pair of reviews, including a steadfastly tolerant glimpse at Joaquin Phoenix’s otherwise intolerable I’m Still Here : “Much of the movie involves Mr. Phoenix’s having, or more likely pantomiming, a meltdown, for which he puts on a really good show,” she notes, describing the star’s rejection of celebrity and rebirth as a rapper. “But the programmatic nature of his antics strongly suggests that he is self-consciously playing a role in a narrative, one that isn’t simply about him.” This calls for a toast! Coffee mugs up… [ NYT ]
