Why Democrats And Republicans Are Both Wrong About The Bush Tax Cuts

All over the Internet, Republican pundits are declaring that extending the Bush tax cuts will save the economy and Democrat pundits are declaring that ending the Bush tax cuts will save the economy. Well, you know what? Nothing will save the U.S. economy. The U.S. government is going to continue to drown in a sea of debt no matter what happens with these tax cuts. State and local governments are also going to continue to drown in a sea of debt. Thousands of factories and millions of jobs are going to continue to be shipped overseas every single year. America is going to continue to transfer tens of billions of dollars of its national wealth to foreign nations every single month. Nothing that the Republicans and Democrats are debating right now is going to do a thing to alter the fundamental problems that the U.S. economy is facing. added by: Revelation1217

Chinese hired Blaster worm hackers

Wikileaks reveals scary security stories By Nick Farrell Tue Dec 07 2010, 09:42 THE WIKILEAKS LEAKS have shown that Chinese security firms with ties to the Chinese military hired the hacker group responsible for the original Blaster worm. According to the Guardian US diplomats have also discovered that the security firms have access to the source code of Microsoft Windows to assist them breaking it. In a US State Department daily security briefing of June 29, 2009, Topsec of Beijing had employed Lin Yong, aka “Lion,” the hacker served as a senior security service engineer to “manage security service and training”. Topsec, China's largest security vendor, provides training and support service for the People's Liberation Army. Apparently all this information was not that secret as it had been sourced to an interview in state-run media with the firm's founder and chairman, He Weidong. Another company, Venustech employed a hacking group called Xfocus, which reportedly was responsible for crafting the original Blaster worm in mid-2003. The US thinks that ties between government-backed companies and hackers is part of China's nationally-funded “network attack scientific research project”. What is strange is that both outfits have links to Microsoft and have signed agreements with the Vole to give them access to Windows' source code.

Ronald Isley, Anita Baker Honored At Soul Train Awards

Fresh attempts to teach CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer how to do the Dougie. It was that kind of night at the 2010 Soul Train Awards, as rookies, veterans and legends came together in Atlanta for the second annual event — which was taped November 10 and aired this past Sunday on BET. The show, hosted once again by Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, featured a night of performances from some of the biggest names in soul and R&B. Host Howard told MTV News that the show is meant to be an extension of the long-running and legendary ’70s TV series that brought soul, disco, R&B and rap stars into viewers’ living rooms. “It reminds me of the advancement black people have made over the years because ‘Soul Train’ really was the beginning of that Black Power movement when we could actually see ourselves — and to have an awards show based upon that ‘Soul Train’ — it’s headed somewhere,” Howard said. “We have a black president now. The country seems to be more tolerant towards the diversity inside of it so it seems like the train is moving well down the tracks.” The awards show marked the 40th anniversary of classic music showcase hosted by Don Cornelius, and celebrated the careers of Baker and Isley, while handing out trophies to such contemporary stars as B.o.B (Song of the Year for “Nothing on You”), Melanie Fiona (Best New Artist), Eminem and Rihanna (Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year for “Love the Way You Lie”), Usher (Album of the Year for Raymond vs. Raymond ) and Alicia Keys (Record of the Year for “Unthinkable [I’m Ready]” and Best Female R&B Soul Artist). Though top winners such as Trey Songz, Usher, Ciara, Eminem and Rihanna were not in the house, Blitzer graciously agreed to accept Slim Shady’s award for him, joking, “Who better to accept this award on behalf of Eminem … I know he’s thrilled.” Weaving through a series of skits involving magic tricks and jovial bickering by the hosts, the performance-heavy program delivered on talent. R. Kelly opened by teasing the crowd with his classic “Bump n’ Grind,” then diving into his new single “When a Woman Loves” — transforming the song from a slow jam into an all-out ’50s rock-and-roll epic. Ne-Yo kept the show moving with a showcase of his singles from this year, including “Champagne Life” and “One in a Million.” The tribute to Baker featured an all-star cast, with artists like Chrisette Michele, Goapele, Lalah Hathaway, Dionne Farris, Kem, Tamia, Faith Evans and El DeBarge covering a medley of the singer’s greatest hits. Baker told the crowd that the biggest honor of the night for her was that real musicians were performing live with an actual band. “It’s amazing because you’ve got children behind you singing ‘Rapture’ — it’s lovely,” she said, adding, “Let’s do it again!” Ronald Isley, co-founder and lead singer of the Isley Brothers, also received a special homage that featured Jeffrey Osborne, Freddy Jackson, DeBarge, Tank, Eric Benet, Bilal and Peabo Bryson. Isley also came out to perform his own medley of hits and was joined on stage by Chant

Jay-Z’s ‘Decoded’ Takes #3 Spot On New York Times Best Sellers List

Hov’s first book comes in behind George W. Bush’s ‘Decision Points’ and Laura Hillenbrand’s ‘Unbroken.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Jay-Z Photo: John Parra/ Getty Images Jay-Z might be able to best Elvis Presley when it comes to topping the album charts, but the Brooklyn MC wasn’t able to muscle past former president George W. Bush on the book list. The witty wordsmith-turned-author debuted at #3 on the New York Times Best Sellers list with his first book, “Decoded,” a collection of the rapper’s lyrics deconstructed with the help of co-author Dream Hampton. The former prez’s book “Decision Points” topped the Hardcover Nonfiction list for the second time in as many weeks. Laura Hillenbrand’s “Unbroken” was the top debut, notching the #2 slot. Jay-Z went on a heavy promotional campaign for “Decoded,” making appearances on the “Late Show With David Letterman,” “Charlie Rose” and “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.” He also partnered with Microsoft’s Bing search engine for a portal that doubled as a scavenger hunt-like game where readers who decoded Jay-Z’s lyrics would unearth scripts of his lyrics in the locations he referred to in song. In the past, Jay-Z promised to deliver a memoir, co-authored by Hampton, titled “The Black Book.” But the rapper subsequently revealed that the material was too personal and decided to pull the plug on that project. “Decoded” does get personal nonetheless, as evidenced during passages such as the one in which the “Empire State of Mind” star recalls the death of the Notorious B.I.G. “I wanted people to have the proper context of rap, the generation, what we went through, these emotions behind these songs,” Jay-Z told MTV News earlier this month. “A song like ‘Lucifer,’ it’s really about the struggle and really about dealing with death and having that feeling. The evil is inside of you, not this mythical character with pitchforks and things like that. Dealing with a feeling of wanting revenge.” Related Videos Jay-Z’s ‘Decoded’: A Closer Look Related Artists Jay-Z

Likely Voters Steer Clear of MSNBC, Don’t Like or Don’t Know Prime Time Talkers

According to a recent poll, likely voters get their political news primarily from cable television. Among cable channels, 42 percent, a plurality, watch Fox News for its political coverage. Only 12 percent said they watched MSNBC. What’s more, most likely voters don’t like or have never heard of MSNBC’s prime time talent. The poll , conducted by Politico and George Washington University, used a sample split evenly between political parties – even slightly favoring Democrats in some areas : 41 percent of respondents identified as Republicans, while 42 percent said they were Democrats. Forty-four percent said they usually vote for Republicans, while 46 percent answered Democrats. Forty-eight percent voted for Obama, while only 45 percent voted for McCain. Even among this group, Fox News is by far the most popular cable outlet. CNN comes in at second, with 30 percent. A sorry MSNBC brings up the rear. Among cable news personalities, FNC’s Bill O’Reilly – consistently the highest-rated cable news talker – is the most popular. Forty-nine percent of respondents said they thought O’Reilly has a positive impact on the American political conversation. Thirty-two percent said he has a negative impact. Interestingly, respondents – again, split evenly among the two parties – thought all three of Fox’s evening opinion commentators (O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity) have a net positive impact on the national debate. All three have a positive spread in the category. Also of note, for none of the three did majorities answer “never heard of”. MSNBC’s hosts are a different story. Only 23 percent said Keith Olbermann has a positive impact on the debate, while 25 said he has a negative one. A plurality, 42 percent, had never heard of him But at least it was only a plurality. Majorities said they have never heard of Ed Schultz or Rachel Maddow – 70 percent and 55 percent, respectively. The positive impact/negative impact responses were split down the middle for both. In other words, the vast majority of likely voters either do not like MSNBC’s prime time talkers, or have never heard of them (with the notable exception of Chris Matthews, whose name was not included in the poll). “How did it get to this state?” wonders Ed Morrissey . After all, NBC had a long history in television news, starting decades before CNN and even longer than Fox. Its partnership with Microsoft should have given the cable news network a distinct advantage in the New Media world. Their roster of news anchors, present and future, should have immediately challenged CNN for primacy and marginalized Fox, who may have had cash but relatively fewer newsgathering resources in the US when it launched. Under the direction of GE’s Jeff Immelt, though, NBC’s cable network went for the full-insane demographic. Fox took CNN’s talking-head format and simply reversed the bias, although Fox rightly argues that it presents more opposing viewpoints than CNN did as part of their establishment talent and not just occasional guests and party spinmeisters. NBC decided to emulate Air America with its cable lineup instead, perhaps seeing some opportunity in the last Bush term to capitalize on his unpopularity and become a center of opposition opinion. Rather than accomplish that, the decision by NBC and its parent GE has not just destroyed MSNBC’s credibility but also NBC’s as well. With the exception of Joe Scarborough, who is hard to pigeonhole but certainly isn’t a hard-Left hysteric, the entire lineup is exactly what one would find on the failed libtalker radio network. It’s no coincidence that two of its featured hosts come straight out of Air America, Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz. Maddow has, at least, produced a watchable show, albeit with a hard-Left tilt that clearly is out of touch with the mainstream, but Schultz is barely coherent. Top that off with a daily “news” broadcast from Keith Olbermann that almost literally consists of a Two Minute Hate (Olbermann’s WPIW lists), and it’s a recipe for the kind of disaster that only political hacks could love. The wonder is that GE and NBC apparently seem content to alienate 88% of the viewing audience with its trainwreck theater.
