Disney star and Australian actor have parted ways, Hemsworth’s rep confirms. The teen queen has split from her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth after more than a year of dating. Hemsworth’s PR representative confirmed the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer and her beefy Australian beau have officially called it quits. “It’s true,” the actor’s rep told RadarOnline.com . The news comes after reports that the couple were getting serious. According to Radar, Cyrus recently purchased a $3.4 million house, not far from her parents’ California home, where Hemsworth was a frequent guest. Hemsworth and Cyrus struck up a romance after meeting on the film set of “The Last Song” in 2009. The pop star said earlier this year that although she wasn’t on the lookout for a boyfriend, Hemsworth won her over with his gentlemanly charm. “I kind of just wanted to focus on my work. I tend to hide behind my work sometimes,” Cyrus said on “Ellen” in March. “But I met him, and he opened the door for me, and I was like, I have been in L.A. for three years and I don’t think any guy has actually opened the door for me. It wasn’t that he wanted the job. That’s just who he is. I was like, ‘Wow, that is super-impressive.’ I actually turned to the director and said, ‘He’s got the job.’ He’s hot and he opened the door. Excellent.” Cyrus, who dropped her latest album, Can’t Be Tamed, in June, said that much of the LP was inspired by her romance with Hemsworth. “There are a lot of songs that are about Liam,” Cyrus told MTV News when Tamed was released. “I tell him every one’s about him,” she quipped. Miley Cyrus may be a colossal disappointment for a variety of reasons, but at least she doesn’t curse, smoke or look like a raccoon at all times. The same can’t be said for Gossip Girl cast member Taylor Momsen. Speaking to FHM UK , the 16-year old lashed out at critics that compare her to Miley this week, making it very clear that she doesn’t see any similarities between the pair. “I’m not looking to be Miley f*cking Cyrus,” Momsen said. “I don’t care about the fame. I do it because I love music. I like making records and if people like them, then we’ll go along for the ride.” Momsen and Cyrus may both act and sing, but that’s pretty much where the comparisons end. The former fronts rock band The Pretty Reckless, while the latter is nothing more than a Britney Spears wannabe at this point. Still, Taylor feels a need to distance herself from Miley, adding: “I think the Disney bubblegum shit that the world is living right now is pathetic. I thought we passed that repression.” It’s unclear what that actually means, but Gossip Girl fans have made their opinion of Momsen and her character well-known: Jenny Humphrey has been written out of most of next season on the show. Country legend Dolly Parton says she’s also looking out for the teen queen. “I’m her fairy godmother,” Parton told The Associated Press. The “Can’t Be Tamed” singer and the blonde icon joined forces in May for a duet — a rendition of Parton’s 1973 hit single “Jolene” — during a celebration of Dollywood, the singer’s namesake Shangri-La. Parton showed the teen superstar some love after performing with her for the Hallmark Channel special taped earlier this year, commemorating 25 years of the Tennessee theme park. Miley has been getting some heat lately for what her critics say is an increasingly sexed-up image; a budding persona at odds with the inoffensive sass of the Disney series which launched the teen to stardom. However, Parton, who has built a decades-long career and entertainment empire blending sweet, down-home wholesomeness with bubbly, busty sex appeal, maintains that Cyrus is headed in the right direction. “I’m just real proud of her,” Parton said. “She does not need my advice, but she’s often asking for information and advice, and I tell her what I know, but I think the girl’s doing all right without me.” In addition to the Miley/Dolly duet, the special will feature performances from Kenny Rogers and Billy Ray, who has known Parton since he first burst onto the scene in the early ’90s with his mega-hit “Achy Breaky Heart.” Parton said the tribute show thoroughly represents the successful amusement park. “There are a lot of wonderful things,” she said. “It shows the park really great, and the audience and all the people that work here, so we’ve really covered it in every respect.” Should all teen pop stars have fairy godmothers and godfathers to look out for them? Country music legend is admittedly biased, but she has a message for critics of Miley Cyrus: Give the girl a break! In an interview with Fox News, Parton is asked about the rebukes of Miley’s new image these days and says: “I’ve known her since she was a baby.” She then takes the same stance on digs directed at Cyrus as Miley herself takes on pants : “I hate it when people criticize her,” Dolly says. Parton continues to praise the girl her “honorary goddaughter,” adding: “She is a great singer; she has a great voice. She’s a great little entertainer and she can speak to you like she is 50 years old.” We guess that’s true. At least if 50 year-olds are known for spouting Hallmard card-like cliches about love and life . In closing, Dolly seems to at least acknowledge that Miley’s new CD has been a bust on the charts , but the singing legend takes a grander, positive view of her young pal: “She’ll land in the right place. I really know she has everything it takes. She is just trying to find her way and she will.” Those words sound eerily similar to what some people said about Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan back in the day. Let’s hope Miley’s path ends in a different location from that of those two trainwrecks.

Note to Miley Cyrus: if you have to say you’re a role model, you’re probably not a role model. In a new interview with MTV News, Cyrus says she empowers young women – or at least tries to. Referring to new songs such as “Can’t Be Tamed” and ” Liberty Walk ,” the 17-year who hates wearing pants says: “It’s just about freeing yourself from anything you think is holding you back. And I think that’s really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, ‘No, you can’t do something,’ or, ‘You need to be this because Mom and Dad say that, teachers say this.'” Yes, Miles, sometimes mom, dad, teachers and grown-ups with actual life experiences know better than their 15-year old daughters. Almost at all times, in fact. Miley’s truly profound, not remotely cliched advice for her young fans? “Really think about what you want to do for the rest of your life. There’s a short amount of time, when you think about it, and no day needs to go by wasted.” It’s true. Why bother wasting that time by putting on clothing , right, Miley? ‘It’s like the worst superhero power, possibly, to get,’ Lautner jokes of title character’s limb-extending abilities. As the 18-year-old actor heads off in the fall to shoot the final two parts of the “Twilight” series for “Breaking Dawn” — slipping once again into the role of werewolf Jacob Black — he’s also got his eyes on his title role in “Stretch Armstrong,” a big-screen adaptation of the Hasbro action figure. As the title implies, this cinematic Stretch is an anxious spy who exposes himself to a formula that allows him to physically stretch his body to extremes. That power is hardly as cool as the ability to fly or shoot lasers from your eyes — in fact, it’s kinda lame — but as Lautner himself points out, that’s the point. “It’s like the worst superhero power, possibly, to get, and how you’re going to take that and use it for good and how you’re going to be creative with that [is the predicament],” Lautner told MTV News. The emphasis should be on the word “creative.” Unlike comic book franchises such as “Iron Man” or “Batman,” “Stretch” has no established story lines, giving screenwriter Nicholas Stoller a ton of latitude as he crafts the movie’s world. “The awesome thing with toys is it doesn’t give you a story line, so you get to create it,” Lautner added. “The development process for this movie has been awesome and it’s going to continue to be. I just can’t wait to see a script.” Right now, the actor is gearing up to shoot “Abduction” in the summer, followed by “Breaking Dawn” in the fall. Lautner is waiting to get his hands on the “Stretch” script before he slots the production into his schedule. There’s no set time for filming to commence on the 3-D film, which is slated for a 2012 release. “Nick [Stoller is] a genius, so I couldn’t be happier with the fact that he’s writing the script right now,” Lautner said. “I just want to see it.” Do you think Taylor will make a good superhero? And I think that’s really important, especially for girls, because so many people are told, ‘No, you can’t do something,’ or, ‘You need to be this because Mom and Dad say that, teachers say this.’ ” Her advice? Might Miley Cyrus be maturing?!? We don’t have our hopes up, as we’ll likely be shaking our heads over the singer’s outfit tomorrow – but for one night, at least, Cyrus toned down her transparent attempts to seem edgy and mature and allowed the audience to focus on both her music and an important message. This monumental event took place at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Performing a set that included “Can’t Be Tamed” and “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” Miley actually wore pants. No, really, she did.
