North Dakota lawmakers sent their state’s Republican governor a pair of anti-abortion bills yesterday, both of which would impose the strictest ban on this practice of any state in the country. One proposal would make the procedure illegal as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, while the other would prohibiting women from having an abortion because a fetus has a genetic defect, such as Down Syndrome. While pro-choice advocates say they will protest these measures if they pass, supporters of the bills make it clear that their goal is to challenge the 1973 Supreme Court ruling of Roe v. Wade. Rep. Bette Grande introduced the bills and said the state’s budget never crossed the mind of her or anyone on her side. “I don’t look at it from the financial side of things,” Grande told The Associated Press on Friday. “I look at it from the life side of things.” The measures now go into Governor Jack Dalrymple’s hands, with The American Civil Liberties Union referring to them as “extreme” and noting that many women don’t realize they’re even pregnant until after six weeks. “In America, no woman, no matter where she lives, should be denied the ability to make this deeply personal decision,” ACLU executive director Anthony Romero said in a statement.

Thoughts on Congress possibly cutting the WIC program?? Via CBS News: “I was scared out of my mind, I was scared out of my mind about his not getting enough,” said Kayden’s mother, Cierra Kelley. “He was two days old when I took him to the hospital. He was only two days old, I didn’t know what was going on. So he went to see a lactation specialist at Piedmont health.” The lactation specialist is just one of the services available through the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program also known as WIC. Kelley is one of nine million WIC participants in the United States. “My mother didn’t breastfeed so she didn’t know much about breastfeeding,” Kelley said. “Any questions that I had she was always able to answer them. I was scared for the first week about breastfeeding, you never know if you are doing it right unless someone tells you.” In addition to breast feeding counseling, WIC also offers food vouchers which average between $60-70 per person, per month “I am young, so with WIC you get food support, milk cheese, things like that,” Kelley said. “You need to keep your body healthy. You have to keep nutrients in your body so you can pass it on.” But impending budget cuts could cut WIC benefits for hundreds of thousands. “There are different things that could happen but in short $600,000 could be cut there are different options trying to run the program as long as possible and then making cuts as we get closer to the fiscal year,” said Heather Miranda, a WIC supervisor. Kelley, 21, is in her third year of online classes to become a social worker, but she does not work outside the home. With almost 60 percent of infants born in the US enrolling in WIC, some argue that the program needs to be scaled back.” “I think it is hard because I don’t think a lot of folks don’t understand at the grassroots level what will happen to these families,” Miranda said. “As being someone who works with these families regularly — I had a woman who had to stop breastfeeding because she did not have enough food to feed herself. It’s devastating to hear that and to know there will be cuts that will make it even worse … it makes me incredibly sad that we would balance the budget on the backs of infants women and children.” If Congress does not act, half of the proposed federal spending cuts will come from defense and half will come from discretionary spending which will impact social safety net programs like WIC. “Nobody wants to see their child suffer or go through anything,” said Kelley. “If they cut the budget short and took away the opportunity to call down there and see what is going on with him, if something is going on with my breast milk, and something is going wrong and I am not able to get the support that I need, that means my son would suffer and that would break my heart.” Discuss….
I’ve loved Justin from the very start and have supported him the whole way. My first ever concert was when Justin Bieber came to Ireland in 2011 and my 2nd concert was when he was in London the next week. I was lucky enough to get two tickets to his concert in London and have a VIP ticket to see him during his sound check. At the sound check, he was asking questions to fans and during this time I was holding up my camera. He must of thought I was holding up my hand up to answer so he looked at me and said, “Do you know the answer?” I was in shock that Justin Bieber spoke to me. I replied saying, “Sorry no..I’m sorry,” and he said “No problem,” and gave me a smile. For months after that I didn’t stop smiling and being happy. When Justin’s tickets came out for Ireland I was on the computer trying to get tickets and I did… but I had a massive surprise on Christmas morning. I opened a envelope to reveal a meet and greet ticket. So I had 2 tickets for his concert on the 17th and one for the 18th. In my town there is a place where women and their children stay if they were abused by their husbands so I decided to make a little girl’s (who would have never got to go to his concert) dream come true and I gave her my spare tickets. It felt great knowing that the little girl and her mum were at his concert, singing along to all his amazing songs. I was nervous about going to the concert by myself but was still super excited to see my idol. When I got to the venue I met loads of friendly people and I didn’t feel so scared anymore. We went in, got our wristbands and a bag with loads of cool Justin Bieber stuff including a signed record sleeve of Believe. One of the crew members came out with tank tops and gloves belonging to Justin for a raffle. With my luck I doubted I would win anything but I was so lucky to win a signed poster of Justin from a pervious concert. It is now in a frame hanging in my room. Also the girl beside me won his shoe and I got a picture with it. Justin was late but was so sweet and didn’t want his fans waiting too long. He asked his dancers and musicians to come out to us and take pictures. That was amazing. I got picture with Dan Karter and his autograph. Then as soon as I walked behind the black curtain I saw Justin. I couldn’t believe it. It was actually him. He didn’t look real because he was so perfect. I slowly walked up to him with a massive smile on my face. He smiled at me and said, “Hi.” I was so amazed that I just looked at him and gave him another massive smile. He put his hand on my shoulder. He was wearing a cap and I was a good height because I fitted under it. He nozzled his head against mine and we got the picture taken. It was all happening so quickly. After I meet him and got my wristband taken off, I broke down crying realizing how fortunate and lucky I was to meet Justin Bieber. I rang my friend crying with joy and told her. I walked to my seat in row 5 which is really close to the stage. The concert was amazing. He performed so well and it was just amazing. I loved it when he sang ‘Be Alright’ because I go to a boarding school, so when I’m ever homesick I listen to that song and well, everything is alright. The 18th of February was/is/will be the best day of life. I really can’t believe I’m writing my own MBE! My name is Paola, I’m from Cyprus (a tiny island near Greece) and I’ve been a huge belieber for the last 3 years. I’ve been listening to Justin’s music from the beginning and they were always like a drug to me. His music inspires me. However the real Bieber fever hit me some months before NSN came out. The fact that my country is so small makes it impossible for Justin to do a concert here, so it was so difficult for me to get to see him. Both my parents believed that it was very complicated for me to see him and they decreased my hopes but I was so determined and dedicated. I worked a lot and raised enough money in order to go against my parents. Last July when I was on vacation in Australia, the tickets for the UK Believe Tour came. I bought some very good floor seats for Manchester. I started to fangirl, screamed and cried so much! I was actually seeing Justin live. I checked out Twitter and saw a tweet from @UKBieberday saying that some more M&G tickets for Dublin were released on Ticketmaster. That was when I started shaking and sobbing. I wasn’t able to make the order so my dad helped me. I soon realized I was going to Dublin to meet Justin – my mind froze. I was the happiest girl alive! All my hard work and determination were finally rewarded. So then two happy months went by and it came to the day I flew to Dublin. We went to the O2 venue and that was when the dream started feeling like reality. I met so many amazing beliebers. I even hugged a crying girl waiting for the standing area. She was so sweet! Then we stood at the queue for the M&G and they were playing Bieber songs and I got SO excited. Justin was so late so Nick Demoura came out and we took a selfie together and I gave him a hug. He was THE CUTEST. Then Dan came out, oh my god, he is the kindest and most friendly person ever! We like talked for 10 minutes and I tried to convince him to come to Greece! Then Justin was ready to start and the queue started moving so fast. It was me and my cousin. I started shaking and couldn’t feel my hands. From that moment everything was a blur. He seemed so unreal! He was so flawless! His smile, his eyes, his voice, his everything. I couldn’t help it and I screamed ‘JUSTIN!’ and he looked at me in the eyes, smiling! I remained there staring at him. He was like, “Come here,” and smiled. I went and gave him a little hug touching the back of his neck. SO HOT. Then my cousin asked for a kiss and he laughed and said, “Woaaah take it slow, take it slow.” He was so cute. I said, “Can I have a big hug?” and he was like, “Yeah, quick though,” but then wasn’t allowed since they were about to take the picture. He was like, “Right here sweetie…” and I shaking and he smiled and said, “Relax,” as I melted. They took the picture and he said thank you. The security guards said that we had to leave but I had not given him a hug yet, so I asked him again and he said yes, but they started pulling me away. I started crying and saying, “Just a hug! I came all the way from Cyprus!” and he was coming towards me smiling and blowing me kisses. He is so amazing! I went out sobbing on the floor. I couldn’t even breathe. Then we went to our seats in the arena and they were AMAZING. We could see all of his gestures and movements. The show was magical. He is so talented and passionate. He is the best idol ever. When he was singing, “Fall,” I was sending him kisses, crying and he saw me and smiled. He made me feel SO SPECIAL. He is the man of my dreams. What? The NFL ain’t got no love for a gay rookie? Via NYPost reports : The NFL is looking into allegations that certain teams may have asked a draft prospect about his sexual orientation. Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Colorado tight end Nick Kasa was asked whether or not he liked girls during the interview process at the NFL Scouting Combine. “We will look into the report on the questioning of Nick Kasa at the Scouting Combine,” NFL Spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement. “It is league policy to neither consider nor inquire about sexual orientation in the hiring process. “In addition, there are specific protections in our collective bargaining agreement with the players that prohibit discrimination against any player, including on the basis of sexual orientation.” Kasa said that during the interview process, teams outwardly questioned his sexuality. “They ask you like, ‘Do you have a girlfriend? Are you married? Do you like girls?’” Kasa said on the CJ and Kreckman show on ESPN Radio in Denver. “Those kinds of things. It was kind of weird. But they would ask you with a straight face, and it’s a pretty weird experience altogether.” Kasa did preface those comments by saying the whole goal of the interview process is for the coaches to learn how mentally tough a player is and whether or not they can get into the prospect’s head. “I think the whole point of the week is to play with your mind to see if you stay focused and stay driven,” Kasa said. “There was a couple of questions by coaches … they try to catch you off guard or try to say something you wouldn’t normally say … to see if they can get a reaction. They’re trying to see how badly they can get in your mind.” Regardless of the purpose of the questioning, if team officials at the Combine did ask Kasa about his sexuality, they may have violated league policy against discrimination. “Any team or employee that inquires about impermissible subjects or makes an employment decision based on such factors is subject to league discipline,” Aiello said. The allegations come just days after it was revealed that teams wanted to know more about controversial Notre Dame linebacker prospect Manti Te’o’s sexual preferences. Earlier in the week Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that NFL coaches and GMs at the scouting combine wanted to find out if Te’o was gay. “Here’s the elephant in the room for the teams and it shouldn’t matter, but we have to step aside from the rest of reality and walk into the unique industry that is the NFL,” Florio said on the Dan Patrick Show. “Teams want to know whether Manti Te’o is gay. They just want to know. They want to know because in an NFL locker room, it’s a different world.” There have been several issues of team’s grilling prospects during the scouting combine, with the most recent one coming to mind being when Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland asked then Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant (now with the Cowboys) if his mother was a sex worker. There has not ever been an openly gay player to play in the NFL or any other major team professional sport. We keep saying it and it’s definitely true. It’s only a matter of time.
