“You HAVE to stay OFF the weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-duh !” -Stephen A. Smith Prosecutors Want Adrian Peterson Arrested For Smoking Pot On Bond According to TMZ reports : Prosecutors in Montgomery County, Texas, have filed paperwork to have Adrian Peterson’s bail revoked and the Minnesota Vikings running back re-arrested after he told a drug tester that he had recently smoked marijuana before taking a urinalysis test Wednesday. According to the filing signed by Bill Delmore, the Assistant District Attorney for the state of Texas, Peterson admitted to the worker that he had “smoked a little weed” before the test. Not taking any illegal drugs are common terms to adhere to when out on bond. “In light of this statement, and the fact that it was made during the urinalysis testing process, and the term ‘weed’ is a common slang term for marijuana, the state argues that the defendant has smoked marijuana while on bond,” the district attorney’s office wrote. Peterson has been free on $15,000 bond on a charge of felony child abuse. A trial has tentatively been set to begin Dec. 1. There cannot be any action on the bond revocation or any arrest warrant issued before a hearing is held on whether the judge hearing Peterson’s case should be recused. No hearing has been scheduled and likely won’t happen until next week at the earliest. You would think someone who is facing prison time and the loss of tens of millions of dollars would be livin’ as legal as possible… Image via WENN Continue reading →
Adrian Peterson has been accused of child abuse for the second time in less than a week. According to a new report by KHOU, the Minnesota Vikings running back sent a different four-year old son back to his mother last June with a scar on his forehead. The station says Peterson sent the mother a text message that claimed the toddler smacked his head on a car seat… but when the boy’s mother pressed the issue, Peterson admitted to striking hitting the child. This story is developing. UPDATE: Sources tell TMZ that the the child accidentally hit his head on a car seat while being punished by Peterson, but Peterson did not directly hit the boy. KHOU has uncovered the actual text messages sent between Peterson and this woman. They read: Mother: “What happened to his head?” Peterson: “Hit his head on the Carseat.” Mother: “How does that happen, he got a whoopin in the car.” Peterson: “Yep.” Mother: “Why?” Peterson: “I felt so bad. But he did it his self.” In a subsequent text, Peterson told the mother that if the child had simply remained “still” and taken his “whooping,” he would not have hit his head. The Houston TV station reports the mother of the four-year-old filed a report with Child Protective Services, but no charges have been filed. Meanwhile, Peterson was arrested on charges of negligent or reckless injury to a child over the weekend. He admitted to the authorities that he “whooped” another four-year old child with a switch , text messaging that boy’s mother (who is a different woman than the original woman cited above) that he felt bad for going so far with his beating. The Vikings sat Peterson for yesterday’s game against the Patriots, but have reinstated him for next Sunday’s contest against the Saints. He issued a lengthy apology earlier today in which apologized for the latest incident, said he’s been seeing a psychologist and that he’s working to be a better father and person . Michele Bachmann Is Quitting House Seat 2014 Michele Bachmann says she’s chucking the deuces to the U.S. House Of Representatives…. Via NBC News: Tea Party favorite Michele Bachmann, who last year ran for the Republican presidential nomination, announced on Wednesday that she will stand down from her seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. In a video posted on her website and on YouTube, the stressed that her decision to stand down from her Minnesota seat was not due to any concern she would be defeated at the next election in 2014 or the inquiries into activities of her former presidential campaign staff. And she said she would continue to fight for the policies she believes in and that her future was “limitless and my passion for America will remain.” “There is no future option or opportunity … that I wouldn’t be giving serious consideration if it can help save and protect our great nation,” she said. Nice. Peep her announcement below: YouTube
Donald Trump in 2016 ? Maybe. Michele Bachmann in 2014? Definitely not. The Minnesota Congresswoman and former President candidate made it official in a video announcement this morning: she will not be seeking a fifth term in office. Michele Bachmann Retirement Speech “The law limits anyone from serving as president of the United States for more than eight years, and in my opinion, well, eight years is also long enough for an individual to serve as a representative for a specific Congressional district,” Bachmann said. The controversial conservative did not give an exact reason for her retirement – but did state that an ongoing ethics investigation into her conduct while running for The White House was NOT the basis for her decision. “It was clearly understood that compliance with all rules and regulations was an absolute necessity for my presidential campaign,” Bachmann said. “And I have no reason to believe that that was not the case.” Bachmann was elected in 2007 as the first Republican woman to represent Minnesota in Congress. She strongly opposes Obamacare .
Minnesota Legalizes Gay Marriage As the marriage equality debate continues to heat up across America, more and more state legislators seem to be stressing their stance on the highly controversial issue. Joining eleven other states, Minnesota recently became the latest state to legalize gay marriage. via Think Progress After over four hours of debate, the Minnesota Senate voted 37-30 on Monday to pass marriage equality legislation, cementing Minnesota as the 12th state to recognize the marriages of same-sex couples. The vote was largely along party lines, with only three Democrats voting no and only one Republican, Sen. Branden Petersen, voted yes. The House passed the bill on Thursday with a 75-59 vote, and Gov. Mark Dayton (DFL) has promised to sign it as early as Tuesday. It will take effect August 1st. Minnesota is the third state to pass marriage equality in 2013, joining Delaware and Rhode Island. When Minnesota defeated its anti-gay amendment in November, three other states successfully passed marriage equality: Maryland, Maine, and Washington. That’s progress in six states in just over six months. Illinois’s legislature may still consider a same-sex marriage bill before the session is over. How has your state been reacting to the marriage equality debate? Do you agree with their actions? Shutterstock
Are Professional Team Sports Too Intolerant To Accept Openly Gay Players In 2013, will professional team sports see the very first openly gay athlete? We have to ask, especially after reading an insightful piece in the Los Angeles Times about homophobia in professional sports. Here’s an excerpt: About 4,000 players spent time on active rosters in the NBA, NHL, NFL and Major League Baseball in 2012. With the best estimates of the gay population in U.S. ranging from 2% to 10%, it’s likely many of those 4,000 athletes are gay. Yet not one has come out of the closet. Not this year, not last year, not ever. There are openly gay congressmen and two senators-elect. There has been a gay governor and a cable TV network anchor. Just never an openly gay shortstop, quarterback or power forward. And changing that would require more than simply challenging convention. It could require a player to challenge his teammates as well. “It’s still taboo in the locker room,” explains the Clippers’ Grant Hill. Like in the New England Patriots’ locker room. Earlier this season linebacker Brandon Spikes sent out a tweet claiming to be homophobic “just like I’m arachnophobic. I have nothing against ho*****uals or spiders but I’d still scream if I found one in my bathtub.” Spikes later said he was joking. But former Angels outfielder Torii Hunter, among baseball’s most thoughtful and intelligent players, isn’t kidding when he says an “out” teammate could divide a team. “For me, as a Christian … I will be uncomfortable because in all my teachings and all my learning, biblically, it’s not right,” he says. “It will be difficult and uncomfortable.” David Kopay (Redskins running back), Billy Bean (Dodgers and Padres outfielder) and John Amaechi (NBA center-forward) are gay athletes who waited, like former NFL’er Wade Davis, to come out after their playing careers ended. Yet an active player coming out may be inevitable. In the last six months Puerto Rican boxer Orlando Cruz, a featherweight contender, and Kevin McClatchy, former owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates, revealed they were homosexual. And hyper-masculine males such as Brendon Ayanbadejo of the Baltimore Ravens, Scott Fujita of the Cleveland Browns and Chris Kluwe of the Minnesota Vikings — all of whom are straight — have become impassioned spokesmen for same-sex marriage. Then there’s NBA Commissioner David Stern, who last year said it’s no longer a matter of “if” but “when” basketball welcomes its first openly gay player. “It will happen,” he said. “I have no doubt about it.” And talk like that, insists a cross section of professional athletes, former athletes, scouts and team executives, is laying the groundwork for a new locker room culture that will be more welcoming for gays. The views of older players, they say, are at odds with younger players, such as 26-year running back Arian Foster of the Houston Texans who, when asked this month about a gay player being in the NFL, told TV’s Jim Rome “People are more accepting of it…. I don’t think it will be long.” As older players retire and younger ones take their place, attitudes in professional sports are bound to change. That generation gap in social thinking mirrors public opinion polls on gay marriage, with a CBS News poll released last month showing the greatest support — 72% — among Americans ages 18 to 29. But journalist Cyd Zeigler, co-founder of the gay sports website Outsports.com, says something else may be at work. Zeigler interviewed more than two dozen current and former NFL players — including Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III, New England tight end Rob Gronkowski and Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, plus retired Pro Bowlers Jevon Kearse, Ahman Green and Eddie George — over the last seven months and found just one who said he would be uncomfortable with a gay teammate. “When I talk to these guys, the majority of them have a gay family member. And all of them know at least one gay person,” Zeigler says. Griffin had a gay teammate in high school, for example, Green has a gay brother and lesbian sister and Hasselbeck insists he must have played with at least one closeted teammate during his NFL career. Do you think that knowing someone gay makes people more tolerant of homosexuality or has it just become more acceptable thanks to public awareness about marriage equality and other issues? Which pro team sport do you think will have the first openly gay player? Any ideas about who the player may be? Photo Credit: John Loomis/WENN
Last night, viewers were treated to one surprisingly impressive act on America’s Got Talent : Andrew De Leon , a gothic-looking opera singer. They were also treated to one controversial contestant: Timothy Poe, a veteran who claimed to have developed a major stutter after suffering an injury in Afghanistan. You can watch video of his audition and backstory here… Timothy Poe America’s Got Talent Audition HOWEVER, multiple sources have now come forward and are casting doubt on Poe’s assertion that a RPG blast in 2009 resulted in this brain-damaged condition. First, there’s the Minnesota National Guard, which said in a statement to Yahoo! TV: “Sgt. Poe’s official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, as he reports. Then, there’s investigative work by The Associated Press, which dispute Poe’s self-proclaimed 14 years of service and state it could only find evidence that he was a specialist for nine years and did not receive a Purple Heart, which is handed out to all military personnel injured in combat. Finally, there’s this simple quotes from Poe’s ex-wife to The New York Post : “There were no combat injuries. I think he developed a ‘feel sorry for me’ stutter.” Poe tells TMZ , however, that it’s not unusual for there to be medical record snafus coming out of Afghanistan and that he DID receive treatment at a medical facility in that country before moving to one in Landstuhl, Germany. But he also said, citing legal reasons, that he cannot produce any evidence to back up these claims. What do you think of all this? Do you believe Timothy Poe’s story?
That old saying “over my dead body” may have a different meaning in the 2012 election. According to Newsbusted anchor Jodi Miller nearly two million dead Americans are still registered to vote.
