REVIEW: Errol Morris’ Tabloid Tells the Sordid Tale of a Love-Crazed Nutter

Errol Morris’s Tabloid isn’t quite as juicy as its title might lead you to believe, but it does tell a suitably twisted, outlandish tale: In 1977 Joyce McKinney, a North Carolina-born beauty queen who’d been ditched by her Mormon boyfriend — he “disappeared” because he’d been called on his mission — trekked to England to snatch him from the clutches of his church.

Scientology Stuntin: Tom Cruise’s Black Son Connor Is Now A DJ

Tom Cruise’s 16-year-old son Connor has found a new way to make some pocket money. The teen is paving his way as a DJ and spun some tunes at a fashion event in LA last night. He teamed up with Jake Isham at Satine Boutique in West Hollywood for the cocktail party celebrating fashion brand Whitley Kros. Not that he needs the money as he has wealthy A-List actors for parents but he seemed to enjoy himself while spinning the decks Connor dressed in an atypical DJ outfit consisting of jeans and a track suit top. He wore a silver chain around his neck and had his large disc-jockey trademark headphones. Connor seems to have come a long way from the shy child seen pictured with his dad and adoptive mother Nicole Kidman growing up. He also has an adoptive sister Isabella, now 18, and they both live with the Mission Impossible star with stepmother Katie Holmes and little sister Suri, four. Nicole has spoke out in the past that she is upset that Connor and Isabella do not address her as their mother, instead referring to Holmes by the title. She revealed in 2007: ‘My kids don’t call me mommy, they don’t even call me mom. They call me Nicole, which I hate and tell them off for it.’ Isabella and Connor, who live in Los Angeles while Nicole is based in Nashville, are both understood to subscribe to Scientology like their famous father. Isabella, in particular, is often seen accompanying Holmes and her half-sister Suri on various family outings. Hmmm…. Source

REVIEW: Drive Angry 3-D Is Disreputable Fun, Until 3-D Fatigue Sets In

Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer’s exploitation extravaganza Drive Angry 3-D is not recommended for the squeamish, the highly suggestible, or children under 40. It should be OK for everyone else, though, particularly those with a high threshold for disreputability and a fondness for ’70s-era drive-in caliber action junk. Its hero, played by Nicolas Cage, is a vigilante from hell; his mission, or at least one of them, is to tell the world to eat his dust.

Phyllis Mackay and Robert A. Riggle, from Seattle. According to the Adams#39; personal Web site, as part of their travels, they were engaging in “friendship evangelism – that is, finding homes for thousands of Bibles, which have been donated through grants and gifts, as we travel from place to place.” They had said their mission was to share their faith and allow it to “transform lives.” A few years back, you would often be able to find Dr. Riggle at the Seattle Animal Shelter. Nicki Minaj on Abusive Father: Scary!

Nicki Minaj says she just wants to be remembered . For this 26-year old hip hop star, though, the only memory she has of her childhood is one in which she worried about the actions of her drug-addicted father. “All of my young and teenage early years, we lived in fear that my mother would be killed by my father,” Minaj told The Sun this week. “It was ridiculous. It made me act out to guys and be evil to them when I was growing up.” Nicki Minaj – Moment 4 Life Saying the experience made her “tough,” Nicki describes her father as “violent, physically and verbally.” Things only improved when her brother grew up and stood up to their dad. “I will cry about something, but I never let anything stop me,” Minaj says of how her childhood has shaped her. “I can’t be like my mom. I know I can cut ties and still make it. She didn’t cut ties when I felt like she should have.” While critics take issue with Minaj’s attitude, she only cares about those on Twitter who have thanked her for telling her story and giving them hope that they can also overcome obstacles. She says: “That makes me feel good. If these girls walk around thinking they are the baddest thing on the planet, I am happy. That’s my manifesto. That’s my mission statement.”

TED Talk: How Do You Make and Enforce Laws on the High Seas?

Photo via Mission Blue The majority of the ocean is thought of as unowned. About 64% is ungoverned by any national law. And yet so much of it needs protections and regulations so that the wildlife can survive, let alone thrive. How do we go about making and enforcing laws that are reasonable and effective, and benefit both humans and marine life? Kristina Gjerde is an expert in this area and gave a talk earlier in the year during the Mission Blue Voyage. Here are here insights into how we might save the unprotected oceans from problems like bottom-tra… Read the full story on TreeHugger
