Gift Guide: The AT-AT the Size of a Pony

Somewhere, in the archives of Eldon, Missouri’s local newspaper, the Advertiser , there’s a photo of a 7-year-old me with my favorite toy at the time, the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) from The Empire Strikes Back . For this gift guide, Hasbro sent me the updated version of the AT-AT — which may be about the same size that I was at age seven.

Kings Of Leon Release Come Around Sundown Art, Track Listing

First single, ‘Radioactive,’ will premiere on band’s website on Wednesday. By Kyle Anderson Kings of Leon Photo: Gareth Cattermole/ Getty Images Though they faced scathing reviews from a pack of pigeons in St. Louis a few weeks ago, most of the rest of the rock world is eagerly awaiting the fifth album from Kings of Leon . The wait is finally coming to an end, as Come Around Sundown is set to drop on October 19 , with the first taste — a single called “Radioactive” — coming out next week. “Radioactive” will see its video premiere on Kings of Leon’s official website on Wednesday, September 8. It will then move to radio on Monday, September 13, and to iTunes the next day. As with most high-profile rock releases, two versions will be made available: the standard album as well as a deluxe edition that will include bonus tracks. Come Around Sundown contains 13 tracks, several of which have been road-tested by the band during its summer tour. In keeping with tradition, the new tunes unveiled on the tour combine bluesy, hard-rocking sensibilities with just the right amount of Americana twang (especially “Mary,” which has quickly become a live staple). Meanwhile, the new single “Radioactive” is a fantastically kinetic uptempo rocker that features a giant sing-along chorus. In addition to the track listing and single release dates, Kings of Leon also released the cover art to Come Around Sundown. It features a photo of a small island with a pair of palm trees at sunset. Shot from the sea, it’s a warm, wistful image that serves the title of the album extremely well. Kings of Leon’s summer tour continues through September 25, when they will make up the Missouri show that they had to cut short because of pigeon droppings. Related Artists Kings Of Leon

Howard Dean Claims Unpopular ObamaCare Mandate Could be Ruled Unconstitutional

A well known political figure appears on MSNBC’s Daily Rundown and announces, in the wake of Missouri voters overwhelmingly supporting Proposition C to remove the insurance mandate from ObamaCare, that it is so unpopular that it will probably be removed from that legislation or that the courts will rule it unconstitutional. So was the person who delivered this opinion a conservative Republican? Nope. It was Howard Dean, former Democrat presidential candidate and chairman of the DNC who made that statement to a surprised Chuck Todd and Savannah Guthrie. The Daily Rundown conversation begins with Chuck Todd discussing the Proposition C landslide in Missouri: CHUCK TODD: In Missouri this week there was referendum on the ballot. Non-binding but it was, frankly, the legislature didn’t want to deal with the issue of healthcare and this mandate and about whether the state should challenge the mandate on the new healthcare plan. It got 71%. Yes, more Republicans turned out than Democrats. But 71% in Missouri, that has to make Democrats nervous, particularly in that Senate race. Robin Carnahan has got an uphill battle. HOWARD DEAN: She does have an uphill battle. She’s a great human being and a great person and I hope that she’s going to win that one. I think she can but the truth is the mandate is not essential to the plan anyway and never was essential to the plan. They did it in Massachusetts and had a mandate but we had universal healthcare for kids in my state without a mandate. At this point, a clearly surprised Savannah Guthrie steps in. SAVANNAH GUTHRIE: But wait, how can you say the mandate isn’t essential? The way we always had it explained to us by folks at the White House is that if you want to do anything about pre-existing conditions you got to get everybody into the game. That without the mandate you can’t require insurance companies to stop prohibiting… DEAN: We did. We did it 20 years ago in my state. We did it 20 years ago in my state. TODD: Without a mandate? DEAN: Without a mandate. TODD: How did you do it? DEAN: We just said all comers will have to get insurance. And you can’t charge…this is why our bill is so much better than what they just passed…you can’t charge more than 20% above the basic rate and the Senate is 300% based on age. The fact of the matter is I thought that the President was right in the campaign. Academically you want a mandate. The American people aren’t going to put up with a mandate. And I’ve made this prediction before and I am going to make it again, by the time this goes into effect in 2014 I think the mandate will be gone. Either through the courts or because it’s unpopular. You don’t need it. There will be 2 or 3 percent of the people who cheat. That is not enough to bring the system to a halt. And people don’t like to be told what to do. TODD: So you expect them to drop the mandate? DEAN: Well, the courts may rule it unconstitutional. So it isn’t only conservatives who think the ObamaCare mandate is not only unpopular but may be ruled unconstitutional as well. Count Howard Dean among the growing ranks of those who have the same belief. Which is why Todd and Guthrie were so surprised.

Juan Williams: Missouri’s Anti-ObamaCare Ballot Irrelevant – Only Old White People Voted For It

Juan Williams on Sunday said the passage of Missouri’s anti-ObamaCare ballot initiative last week is irrelevant because only older white people voted for it. Discussing the issue on “Fox News Sunday,” the liberal FNC contributor said, “As far as the Missouri vote, you get 70 percent inside an echo chamber of older white people, no not in St. Louis not in Kansas City, saying, ‘Oh yeah, we don’t like a requirement that everybody has to have healthcare even though the hospitals in Missouri say it’s gonna drive up our costs.'” Host Chris Wallace seemed somewhat stunned by this and asked, “What happened to respect for democracy?” When Williams elaborated saying that he believes this will eventually be decided by the courts, Liz Cheney rightly scolded her colleague, “I think it is stunning you and the White House are unwilling to heed the votes of the people in Missouri” (video follows with transcript and commentary): LIZ CHENEY: You’ve also got Robert Gibbs this week when asked about what does it mean that 71 percent of the people in Missouri said they don’t want any mandate for health insurance, he said, quote, “It means nothing.” Now when you’ve got a White House that is that unwilling to listen to what the people out there are saying, I think that you know, it causes some real concern about whether or not they are actually going to be responsive to the voters. But, I think, frankly it gives the voters much bigger impetus come November to elect some folks who will listen to him. CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Juan? JUAN WILLIAMS: I like George W. Bush, but the decider? I think, he’s the one that coined that phrase. He said he was the decider when he was president, so I guess President Obama can be the decider now that he is president. Isn’t that the deal? CHENEY: I don’t think Bush ever said he got to decide who had the keys to the scar. WILLIAMS: Look, I think this is, and as far as the Missouri vote, you get 70 percent inside an echo chamber of older white people, no not in St. Louis not in Kansas City, saying, “Oh yeah, we don’t like a requirement that everybody has to have healthcare even though the hospitals in Missouri say it’s gonna drive up our costs, everyone is just going to run to the emergency rooms when they have their accidents.” WALLACE: What happened to respect for democracy? WILLIAMS: I have tremendous respect for democracy, but as Ted Olson… WALLACE: The proposition was on the ballot… WILLIAMS: Yes. WALLACE: …and 71 percent voted in favor of it. WILLIAMS: That’s who’s energized. The unions didn’t participate and they didn’t get out there… WALLACE: Well, that’s their problem, isn’t it? WILLIAMS: Right, so because everybody knows, as Ted Olson told you in an earlier segment on the gay rights issue, the courts, the courts have said that federal law trumps state law in this area, or they will decide if it’s to be the case. WALLACE: That has to do with immigration, we are talking about healthcare. WILLIAMS: That is exactly right, Chris, on the issue, does, can a state say that we will not require our citizens to buy health insurance? That issue is right now being taken up by several attorney generals around the country in seperate states, and, they will eventually end up in the courts. I hate to inform you of this, you should know this as our anchor. (Laughter) CHENEY: It is a real constitutional issue whether or not the federal government has the right to force people to buy insurance, and I think it is stunning you and the White House are unwilling to heed the votes of the people in Missouri. Isn’t it wonderful how much race is now brought into every discussion about politics? I thought Barack Obama was going to change all that.

Missouri GOP Pol’s ‘Green Balloons’ Scandal Sounds Like Outright Rape

We all got a kick out of the arrest of the Missouri GOP ex-pol for roughing up a sex partner because she forgot the safeword : ” Green balloons .” The police report is out, and it looks like a straight-up, horrific rape. Rod Jetton , a 42-year-old Republican Missouri political consultant who formerly served as the speaker of the state’s legislature, was charged with felony assault earlier this week for allegedly injuring a lady he was having S/M-style non-Republican sex with.
