Game Defends G-Unit Jabs, Details Epic ‘400 Bars’ Recording

He also addresses supposed Jay Rock dis, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Game Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Game said his “400 Bars” 20-minute freestyle was probably his single most epic undertaking ever. “To even think about doing ‘400 Bars,’ you need a lot of patient people in the studio with you,” Game said earlier this week in L.A. “I had my whole team in, my whole crew. We was in the studio, the same studio. We were here for a day, 24 hours. Nobody went home, nobody ate, nobody brushed their teeth — we just grinded it out. It came together. I stayed in the booth for a little bit over eight hours, on my feet. At the end, I felt paralyzed. It just took that much out of me. It felt like I got jumped by 30 people. That’s how much it took to do ‘400 Bars.’ I don’t advise anybody to try to do it or top me. Not that I think they could. It’s a long process. Then, you have to keep people entertained for 20 minutes. You can’t just spit something and it not make sense. Piecing it together was crazy. But I did it, and the response was pretty cool. “The next day, I dropped it on the Internet, and I slept until maybe like 9 p.m.,” he said. “I went to the blogs, everybody was going crazy for it. So I went back to sleep.” You know there’s no way Game could have unleashed “400 Bars” without some sort of controversy. Jay Rock wrote on Twitter that people felt like Game was throwing subliminal jabs at him. “I get on Twitter n everybody hitting me sayn @ihategame getting @ me in his freestyle,” Rock wrote. “Same as Cube, n—as need to have ba–s to say names.” “I’m not scared to go against nobody all n—a have to do is say my name and it’s on with who ever. I don’t feel I need to apologize to no1,” he later wrote. Game didn’t say if he was in fact getting at Jay Rock, but he did say he’s always ready to battle. “I’ll just say it like this: If you feel like it was a jab and respond to it, then play with your career if you want to,” Game warned. “I know what to do with anybody and their career. Unless you really know, you should keep your mouth closed.” We do know for sure that Game spat at the G-Unit once again. “Screaming out f— 50, wouldn’t snitch for half his cash/ … Butter-soft Banks, you a bi—, man/ Me and you, we was cool until 50 unscrewed your kickstand/ And Yayo, turn in your senior-citizen wristband.” The Compton native insists it was no big deal. “You’ve gotta understand the difference between G-Unit [jabs] and a beef,” Game explained. “It was a beef [years ago]. I see 50, nobody is gonna do nothing to him. He sees me, nobody is gonna do nothing to me. It’s over with. The beef is over, but I can still throw a few jabs here and there and poke a little fun. Ain’t nothing wrong with being a comedian of some sorts. That’s all it was. I say maybe eight or 10 bars out of 400. 390 bars about other sh–, and 10 bars worth of jabs ain’t gonna hurt nobody.” Producer the Alchemist was one person who didn’t applaud Game’s efforts. Al took to Twitter to give his “400 Bars” review. “400 bars=snooze. Less is more,” Al wrote. Game responded on his Twitter page by writing, “@AlanTheChemist you already know me ALAN, don’t get ya teeth knocked out !!! then you can Snooze 4 real!” Al continued the back-and-forth with a sarcastic response: “I just got jumped by 75 bloods at the 7-11. thanx alot @ihategame. Twitter is powerful!” “He responded like he was supposed to, because he’s a G-Unit affiliate,” Game told us. “I responded like I was supposed to: the first thing that came to my head. I was serious about mine. He can take it lightly if he wants, but stay outta my way.” Game is finishing up his R.E.D. Room mixtape with DJ Skee. Lil Wayne, Hurricane Chris, Jim Jones and the Birdman all appear on the project. Asher Roth Talks Working With ‘Genius’ Pharrell On Next Album

Plus: Game asks for DJ Skee’s assitance on The Red Room, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Matt Elias Asher Roth Photo: SRC/Universal Celebrity Favorites There’s a method to Asher Roth’s madness. He rapped over beats from the likes of the RZA, Q-Tip and J. Dilla on his mixtape Seared Foie Gras With Quince and Cranberry because you might hear him flow over original tracks by those super producers on his next album. One dude who is definitely working on Roth’s upcoming LP is Pharrell Williams — and Skateboard P might even serve as executive producer on the project. “We linked up in Miami,” Roth said of the Williams sessions. “Very good chemistry as far as creating music. We was down there while it was all snowy in New York. We had a blast. I think we have some really beautiful music for warm weather. “He really is a genius,” Roth gushed. “Working with him, it’s really fast. We wound up doing 12 records in 12 days, which is really good numbers. It’s quick. He gets an idea and he harnesses that idea really quick. It’s cool when someone like me gets to step into the studio with him. I feel it’s probably different vibes. … I feel like it’s different vibes. Even though he works with everyone from Britney to the Clipse, he can do that because he stays in his lane. He stays true to himself. He’s got a very real sound he’s harnessed with the Neptunes stuff; he’s got a real sound he’s harnessed with N.E.R.D. We wrote 12 different records. We didn’t try to write one record 12 times — we have stuff all over the map, from live drums that are going to incorporate itself well into a live show … I’m excited for you guys to hear that stuff.” The Streets Is Talking: News and Notes From the Underground Game’s new mixtape The Red Room is set to drop very soon, but there has been a slight change in the lineup — instead of making the mixtape a Gangsta Grillz and putting it out with DJ Drama, Game said he secured the services of DJ Skee. “I immediately called Skee, but he was in Toronto,” Game said about reaching out to Skee once he and Drama amicably agreed to part ways on the project. “He got back, came in and then the tape took a turn left, man. But it’s all good, man, ’cause me and Skee got history. Skee’s at home right now just going in working on it to get it out to the people ASAP. So there ain’t no love lost to Drama, I talk to him. He asked me if there wasn’t gonna be anymore G-Unit disses on the tape and I was like, ‘Not really,’ but I reserve the right to do whatever I want. So it’s probably best that I use Skee.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines .

Lil Wayne Gives Tity Boi A Kanye West-Produced Track For New Tape

Playaz Circle rapper calls Me Against the World 2: Codeine Withdrawal ‘conceptual,’ in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid Tity Boi Photo: Def Jam This Week’s Main Pick Street King : Tity Boi Holding It Down For : ATL, Southside Mixtape : Me Against the World 2: Codeine Withdrawal Real Spit : “Twoooooo Chains!” The name just has a ring to it. Especially when Disturbing Tha Peace member Tity Boi yells it out in the streets. He walked down the street in Times Square telling everyone to watch their step because he had swag dripping all over the place. Don’t sue if you slip, he warned. You see the two chains swinging ’round his neck! “The name of the tape is Me Against the World 2: Codeine Withdrawal, ” he said. “If anybody has been following what I have been doing on mixtapes, I’ve been following in the concept and the team of what ‘Pac was doing. Not in the music, but with his titles. I had mixtapes come out called Trapavelli then dropped a double disc called All Ice on Me. The music is pure, straight form the heart. A chance for me to get my solo outlet out. Not breaking up Playaz Circle or nothing like that. Just getting a few things off my shoulders, ya dig? “It’s conceptual. … The subtitle is Codeine Withdrawal, ” he explained. “If anybody ever been into the epic of the lean, the sizzurp era, that’s what’s going down on the south side of Atlanta right now. A lot of cats really stopped drinking liquor, and they switched to a fruitier-tasting drink over ice. This tape, being that we were going so hard drinking syrup, it’s like a drought. So I was like, ‘You know what? They have habits [and some people can’t function].’ I did my whole tape without the assistance of what I’ve been doing for a couple of years. I still smoked, but the title is Codeine Withdrawal. I’ve had a few people tell me, ‘Slow down, you moving too fast.’ I slowed down. I got a little girl. It is what it is. Full of ‘hood classics.” Tity Boi made his tape with DJ Black Bill Gates. TB also has the album Flight 360 out right now with his partner Dolla Boy. Joints to Check For 1. “Lo Boots.” ” ‘Hood classic soon as it dropped,” Tity said. “A lot of my style comes through me rapping about fashion. A lot of my stuff was ‘Gucci this, Louis that.’ What I was doing was making the bootleggers rich. ‘Cause a lot of y’all wasn’t going to Gucci like me and Dolla was doing. So I did Polo boots. ‘Lo Boots.’ Everybody got them. They like $60 or something, some are $100, but they got nice flavors. Nice brands. The name of the song is about being swagged out with the team, rocking the ‘Lo Boots.’ ” 2. “Can’t Be Broke” (featuring Trae Tha Truth and M. Beezy). “Basically, the title speaks for itself. My verse, I give a brief summary on my birth until now, with hustling. It’s always been hustling. That’s basically what this song is about.” 3. “Real as They Come” (featuring Lil Wayne, produced by Kanye West). “Wayne gave me that song. For no reason, the boy got a song produced by Kanye, with Dre from Cool & Dre on the hook,” TB said. “[Wayne’s] like, ‘Here, I got a song for you.’ It’s a banger. It’s self-explanatory, about looking in the mirror and judging yourself. ‘You’re as real as they come.’ ” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . Justin Bieber Recalls Hanging In The Oval Office With President Obama

‘No one really gets to go in there,’ pop star tells MTV News of his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Tim Kash Justin Bieber performs at the White House Photo: Chip Somodevilla/ Getty Images In his short career, Justin Bieber has already performed for President Obama twice. He first took the stage in the nation’s capital in December, when he performed along with mentor Usher for “Christmas in Washington.” And just last week Bieber took part in the annual Easter Egg Roll . Surprisingly, Bieber is pretty laid-back about the whole experience. “Basically, we went to Washington. We did the thing for the president,” he told MTV News, adding that he called Obama “Mr. President.” While Bieber is Canadian, he was just as honored as any American would be to perform at the White House. “It was great,” Bieber said. “[Obama] was really cool, really nice, and I was just happy to be there.” As it turned out, Obama’s daughters, Sasha and Malia, really love the 16-year-old pop star. “We met them, took pictures with them, took pictures with the first lady,” Bieber recalled. While he has it down now, Obama didn’t always know the correct pronunciation of Bieber’s last name. “The first time I met him was a couple months back,” Bieber said. “And when he introduced me, he said, ‘Justin Bye-ber.’ ” Though, Bieber wasn’t really bothered: “Whatever.” As cool as it is to perform in D.C., Bieber used his celebrity status to do one more thing not many people get a chance to do. “I got to hang out with him in the Oval Office, which is pretty crazy, because no one really gets to go in there,” he said. “But it was pretty incredible. I got pictures with him.” What would you say to Obama if you got the chance to meet him? Let us know in the comments below! Drake Says He’s On A Remix Of Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’

‘I tried to slither my way on that record,’ Young Money MC tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Rahman Dukes and Sway Calloway Drake and Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Holla at the champs — your boys have finally decided to get it in on Twitter, so shout us out at @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . Let’s have dialogue and check for exclusives. Big up to Wiz Khalifa’s army, the Taylor Gang, who have been hitting us up about the mixtape Kush and Orange Juice by @RealWizKhalifa . We got something all the Taylors will be interested in real soon. Now, down to business — we recently brought you clarified word that Lil Wayne appears on Drake’s June 15 LP Thank Me Later via the track “Miss Me.” But there’s more Wayne and Drake in the can. Drizzy sings on a remix of Wayne’s No Ceilings jam “I’m Single.” Drake was so enamored with the record, he wanted to get on the hook. That version is nestled in the Young Money vaults. “I love that song,” Drake told us earlier this week. “I love that song. 40 produced that record for Wayne. I did that a while ago. I love that song. It’s one of those songs I wish was my song. I tried to slither my way on that record. I called Tez like, ‘Tez, let me get on that hook.’ There’s a version with me on it. I don’t know if it’s gonna get out there. Music is someone else’s creation. Once it’s done, it’s hard to say I wanna be a part of it. But me and Wayne, I get excited when Wayne wants to be on one of my songs. Musically we share that. We like doing songs together. I don’t think it’s a bad thing when we do songs together. … So there’s definitely a version with me on it. But that song is amazing on its own.” As for “Miss Me,” Drake said it’s “straightforward.” “It’s a pretty straightforward [song],” Drake said. “It’s a song about being away from what you love and hoping that when you’re gone, doing you, somebody out there misses you. It goes for Wayne in his situation and it goes for me in my situation, ’cause I’m on the road for I don’t how long right now.” The video for the version of “I”m Single” that appears on No Ceilings debuts this Sunday on MTV2’s “Sucker Free Sunday” countdown and on MTV Jams as the Jam of the Week. “The thing with Wayne, if you don’t get a chance to see how hard he worked on the record and the wit and pizazz he had with it, he wants to give you that same feeling the first time you hear it,” said DJ Scoob Doo, who directed the video. “Which he does audio-wise, but him performing it for you in the studio is really what it’s about, as far as this video.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Erykah Badu Says It’s ‘Wonderful’ Rappers Are Remixing ‘Window Seat’

‘I love Ricky’s verse,’ the singer says of Rick Ross’ contribution. By Shaheem Reid Erykah Badu in her video for “Window Seat” Photo: Universal Motown Erykah Badu is a fan of the Bawse &#*212; she gives kudos to Rick Ross for his freestyle verse over her popular “Window Seat” record for the remix. “I think it’s wonderful; if they feel it, that’s when its real,” Badu told Mixtape Daily about rappers jumping on her song. She then singled out Ross. “I love Ricky’s verse,” she added. “Sh– kinda foul while I’m sitting in the isle,” Ross raps on the track. “People taking pictures of me like I’m going outta style/ Anyhow I began to yawn, the human bong/ Kick my Clarks off and recline just like a don/ Hat low, eyes closed, got my hoodie on/ As we take off I think back about all my n—as gone/ From my window seat, the view I got, I think I see tomorrow/ Always been an owner of the watch you wanna borrow/ Always with the woman that you following on Twitter/ First class sold out, but I’m still a n—-a!” Ross spoke to MTV News about what attracted him to the soulful song. “I been getting a lot of questions and a lot of feedback off of the Erykah Badu ‘Window Seat’ record. People wanna know what inspired me to get on the record. It surprised them I was on the record. But to me, the record is just a beautiful song. Erykah Badu is continuing her legacy of making melodic music. That’s the kind of music I’m naturally attracted to. I heard the beat, I heard the flow, of course I saw the video — it’s ingenious. It’s magnanimous. It’s magnificent. I love the video. It’s what art is really about, what hip-hop is really about — taking something that’s really nothing and making it invaluable. She just took a stroll through the park and made it valuable. That’s what hip-hop is. I feel that’s what music is. I jumped on the remix and it felt good. I just put one in the air. Ya boy did what he did. … Ain’t nothing change. It’s the boss Ricky Ross.” Ross is still working on his new album Teflon Don and has announced Jay-Z, Diddy and Kanye West as collaborators. Ne-Yo appears on the first single “Super High” and F. Gary Gray is slated to direct the video . Erykah Badu’s New Amerykah, Part Two: Return of the Ankh is in stores now. E-40 Says Two New Independent Albums ‘Complement Each Other’

‘I had a whole bunch of songs,’ MC says of the decision to record two CDs, in Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid E-40 Photo: SicWidIt Don’t Sleep: Necessary Notables Independent Albums : Revenue Retrievin’: Day Shift and Revenue Retrievin’: Night Shift Headliner : E-40 Key Cameos : “Can’t Stop the Boss” (featuring Too $hort, Snoop Dogg and Jazze Pha), “Power Up” (featuring San Quinn and Keak Da Sneak), “Whip It Up” (featuring Gucci Mane and YV), “Outta Control” (featuring Dem Hoodstarz and Mistah F.A.B.) Essential Info : About the only one in the game who can sign the independent-minded rap legend E-40 is his son, producer Droop-E. 40 kept the scrilla all in the fam by inking a deal with Droop’s Heavy on the Grind Entertainment, which is distributed through EMI. 40 also made two LPs while paying for the studio time of one. The Bay Area Ambassador was originally supposed to put out one album at the end of 2009 but decided it wasn’t financially sound to drop it during the fourth quarter. “At first I had a whole bunch of songs,” 40 explained. “I was just gonna do Revenue Retrievin’. Then I was like, ‘I’mma go ahead and do two of these.’ I didn’t want to come out in the fourth quarter, because it was just co-op pricing and positioning [in record stores]. All that stuff is double and triple as far as to buy into programs with retailers and have your stuff on the shelf. Because you competing with Christmas songs and all type of stuff during that time — it just doesn’t add up. It seems like when you do come out in the fourth quarter sometimes, once that fourth quarter is over, the album is over.” Since he had a delay in his album release, 40 kept recording and came up with an extra body of work. “I ain’t new to this two-CD thing,” he added. “I did a double CD, The Element of Surprise, in 1998. That album went gold. That double CD was all contained into one package. This one is different because it’s two separate CDs with two separate bar codes and they both complement each other: the Day Shift and the Night Shift. I took them [album cover photos] with the same poses, different locations. I did different poses with different outfits on. The Day Shift songs are things that would unfold during the daytime. Night Shift is what would unfold during the nighttime. So, that’s how I put that whole thing together. I did both all on one album budget. We got a whole lot of team players.” 40 is not stopping there; he said he’s looking to release another LP possibly by year’s end. Other Heat This Week

Jay Electronica’s ‘Exhibit C’ Video Still Coming, Directors Promise

‘We’re moving on it, man,’ Coodie of Creative Control tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid and Steven Roberts, with additional reporting by Yemi Bamiro Jay Electronica Photo: MTV News The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Jay Electronica is a hard man to pin down. The enigmatic MC has been in demand with media outlets and artists alike , whether it’s to pick his brain during interviews or for collaborations . Jay, however, has remained elusive. Earlier this year, when his song “Exhibit C” hit the Web, it shook the underground and even made its way onto popular radio stations like Hot 97 in New York. Various MCs freestyled over the beat and many fans anointed him the future of hip-hop, although some people had no idea what the New Orleans MC even looked like. The record has marinated for months, but there hasn’t been a video. A clip for “Exhibit A” was teased earlier this year but has yet to materialize. Well, there’s still hope for an “Exhibit C” video. No one is exactly sure when to expect it, but we had a nice talk with the cinematographers behind Erykah Badu’s controversial “Window Seat” video , Coodie and Chike of Creative Control , and they said the video is in the works. “We’re in discussion. We’ve been building on it, so hopefully soon,” Coodie said. “We’re moving on it, man. We’re in pre-production actually preparing to do it, so we’ll see.” “Yeah, but Jay is quite the magician, so he’s visible one minute and disappears the next,” Chike chimed in. Electronica admits that he takes his time with projects — especially his anticipated album. “For the past few years, I’ve been working at my own pace,” Jay said. “Not necessarily out of stubbornness; it’s just that I’ve been doing it for so long and trying to accomplish the thing for so long that I finally found being my own self and working in my own time and being the most natural is the things that yields the best results for me. “When questions like that come,” Electronica said about answering when his album will drop, “I would like to tell you, ‘Yo, it’s coming next week, two weeks from now.’ Because we have projects, me and Just Blaze, we got gangs of songs. I speak to Nas on a regular basis. We’re working on music together. There are a lot of things going on. But I don’t necessarily have a calendar mark of when a thing is coming, because I just kind of want to keep going the way it has been going, which has got me to this point. When I have been on a calendar, when I have been trying to do it that way, it hasn’t been successful for me. It hasn’t yielded any results.” A 36-second snippet of the video for Jay’s “Exhibit A” appeared on his YouTube page in January, but there’s been little news of what’s next. The video is directed by Jason Goldwatch and features Jay in Nepal among the people, meditating and talking to monks. While the directors were coy about what they had in mind for “Exhibit C,” Chike said they would pool together budgets and take a very creative approach. “Without giving it away, it’s definitely something that’s going to be very interesting, and it’s going to take a lot of artists,” Chike said. “Not just rappers, but a lot of artists as far as putting this together. Cats that are true with their craft. It’s going to be dope.” Other Heat This Week
