Lauryn Hill isn’t the only one with money problems … Wyclef Jean’s Business Manager Says He Is Broke Former Fugees member Wyclef Jean is reportedly broke, according his business manager. Via NewsOne reports: The Smoking Gun reports that the entertainer, who only a couple of years ago tried to run for the Haitian presidency, reportedly is in debt to Uncle Sam to the tune of $2.9 million in tax liens. Through a confidential agreement that was drawn up, the international 44-year-old Haitian ambassador reportedly said he would fork over $100,000 to entertainment law firm Shukat Arrow Hafer Weber & Herbsman to settle an outstanding bill of $133,000. Jean, according to The Smoking Gun, was requested to satisfy his outstanding debt with the law firm via two installments: $10,000 by last August 1 and another $50,000 by the end of last year. According to the alleged agreement, if Jean made the two payments totaling $60,000, the law firm would waive $40,000. If the entertainer, however, failed to make good on the agreement, an additional ten percent annual interest would also get tacked on to the $100,000. Jean did not make any payments to the firm, according to The Smoking Gun. His accountant, David Levin, reportedly sent out an email in January to the celeb’s creditors stating, “in my most professional verbiage…there ain’t no money.” The email was sent out in response to the law firm’s threats of impending court action against Jean. Levin reportedly told the legal eagles to go ahead and “file it” and they did. Now, Jean reportedly owes the firm $102,027.40. He has had other money woes in the past as well. Following the Haitian earthquake, Jean was questioned about the handling of the finances of his now defunct charitable organization, Yele Haiti. The non-profit foundation collected over $16 million in donations following the series of earthquakes that decimated the island’s capital city, Port-Au-Prince. Rich Couple Received Welfare Benefits How long did they think they could trick the government before the jig was up? According to Raw Story: A Minnesota couple who owned a yacht, rented a luxurious home on Lake Minnetonka, and had about $3 million in the bank has been charged with welfare fraud. Authorities said Andrea and Colin Chisholm misled benefit workers for years as they cashed more than $167,000 in welfare checks for food, medical bills, and job training between 2005 and 2012. They had received benefits from Minnesota agencies while living for two years in Florida, reported the Minnesota Star Tribune, where they also obtained welfare benefits. Medica fraud investigators suspected wrongdoing when they learned the couple lived in a lakeside home and had spent part of their $60,000 in medical claims for massages and spa visits. Freeman said “Lord and Lady Chisholm” had been cut off at one point but managed to get back into the welfare system. If they’re convicted, the couple faces a maximum 20-year prison term and $100,000 fine, but the charge also carries the possibility of probation – although Freeman doubted a judge would allow them to avoid prison. But first authorities must find the couple, who vacated their home and pulled their son from school. Investigators believe they’ve gone somewhere warm, if not out of the country entirely. The engaged couple are locked in a nasty legal battle with YouTube founder Chad Hurley and RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that they’re gunning for a huge settlement FOR THEMSELVES and have turned down his offer to donate a sizeable sum to a charity. The Yeezus rapper and his sex tape star fiancée sued Hurley over claims that his leaked video of their over-the-top engagement threatened their bottom line, and apparently they’re not considering settling for anything less than a direct personal payment. “Chad wanted to make a donation to a charity just to make it go away,” a source close to the situation exclusively tells Radar “But Kim and Kanye didn’t want the money to go to a charity, they want it to go directly to them.” He will face off with the power couple in court on November 17, Judge Ruth Kwan ruled on Friday, unless they can reach a settlement before then. “Chad really doesn’t think he did anything wrong,” the source tells Radar. Chris Brown’s new music video for “Loyal” was released today, even with the singer currently in solitary confinement and unable to watch it … bummer man. Chris Brown was jailed last week after getting kicked out of rehab and violating probation as a result, and remains in custody until his April assault trial. His lawyer is said to be working on a deal to pay off the accuser and get the case dropped, thus getting Chris’ probation reinstated and the star released. Until that happens, which could be any moment or not at all, he’ll remain in solitary confinement, feeling like a caged animal and hating jail so hard. Her company is accepting money for services but the company isn’t keeping up its end of the bargain. Via CBS Atlanta reports: Cynthia Bailey has graced the covers of magazines. Each week, you can find the supermodel on Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta. Her company, the Bailey Agency School of Fashion, has been featured on the show and it helps hook aspiring models. “Cynthia Bailey is on the Atlanta Housewives and my daughter talks about her and my granddaughter talks about her,” Dorothy Lewis said. Lewis’ granddaughter is 7-year-old Paris Davis. “She’s bubbly, loves playing and she loves singing, dancing and likes modeling, very talkative,” Lewis said. Anytime Paris takes a picture, “she does her own poses,” Lewis said. So after seeing Bailey on Real Housewives of Atlanta, Lewis looked up her agency and found a photo contest for babies and kids. “The only thing I had to do was submit her photo and then I had to submit an entry fee on the website,” Lewis explained. Lewis paid $20 to enter Paris into the “big kid” category for the month of January. The Bailey Agency promise? Each month a winner will be chosen in each category with the winners featured on TheBaileyAgencySchoolofFashion.com. “To me it’s like playing the lottery. Your chances are slim but what if? That would be exciting if you win,” Lewis said. The problem? The Bailey Agency hasn’t updated the winners since October 2013, but the site has continued to collect money. “It’s just not right to be advertising that you’re going to do one thing and take people’s money from around the country and you’re not following through on what you’re saying,” Lewis said. On top of that, until CBS46 started asking questions, the website stated “a portion of the proceeds … will be donated to the Atlanta Diaper Relief.” The nonprofit folded six months ago. “It’s like false advertisement,” Lewis said. CBS46 took the concerns to Bailey. “We didn’t even realize it folded until we reached out to her to let her know we were going to be changing it over,” Bailey said. The agency now gives a portion to Kile’s World, the foundation started by Tameka Foster Raymond in honor of her late son. And the contest? The agency collected 79 entries and $1,580 while the winners weren’t being updated. But the contest is supposed to pay out $450 a month in prizes, in this case, losing money. “Do you have anything to say to those moms or those grandmothers who were concerned their money wasn’t being used for what it was intended?” reporter Jennifer Mayerle asked. “First of all I think that’s a very negative approach to the whole situation, that’s not like their $20 wasn’t being used for what it was intended for. It’s just a matter of us being in transition on our side and we were just behind on the website. But now it’s updated,” Bailey said. Bailey said she will be more diligent about the contest in the future and will issue a refund to anyone who is unhappy about the way it was handled. Bailey also gave CBS46 the following statement: “The program is not revenue driven. The Bailey Babies Contest was created in the spirit of giving moms with young babies a platform to give their children exposure. This was a fun & inexpensive way to involve young babies in the school since they are obviously too young to participate in any of the other school programs that are offered. The program was also developed for the purpose of extending our brand out to people outside of the Atlanta area that support and want to be a part of The Bailey Agency. I apologize for any negligence on my part as far as my staff not keeping the website properly updated.
