What kind of ain’t isht daughter does this to her elderly daddy? Via NY Daily News reports : John Potter, a 92-year-old Army veteran who served during World War II, had raised enough cash to buy the house he’s lived in for almost six decades — or otherwise face eviction. But the modest single-story dwelling will remain in the hands of its owner — Potter’s own daughter — after she rejected his offer last week. “It is heartbreaking,” Potter’s granddaughter, Jaclyn Fraley, told the Daily News on Thursday. “He says he’s fought a lot of battles. He’s won some, he’s lost some — but this is one he never thought he’d lose.” Potter faces a June 26 eviction hearing in Vinton County Court, where a judge will order him to vacate the property, said Fraley, who’s siding with her grandpa in the family feud. Potter lives in the small village of Zaleski, about 70 miles south of Columbus — a rural hamlet where the retired train dispatcher once served as mayor and the county sheriff. To leave the home he and his late wife built 56 years ago is unsettling, Fraley said. “My biggest fear is the toll (the eviction) is going to take on him,” she added. “He’s 92, and I think about his health. Getting evicted is stressful enough when you’re healthy.” Fraley launched an online campign on GoFundMe.com in April, sharing her grandfather’s story and how he needed to raise at least $125,000 to try and buy the home from his daughter, Janice Cottrill. Although Potter had long owned the home, Cottrill took ownership of it 2004, when she used a power of attorney to transfer it under her name. Potter had gotten sick at the time, and Fraley claims her mom made the transfer without his consent. He only learned in 2010 that he no longer owned the home after his daughter tried to have him declared legally incompetent and moved to a nursing home, Fraley said. Meanwhile, bad blood was brewing between Potter and Cottrill when she took custody of her older brother, Joe, who is autistic and had been living with Potter. The father and daughter were arguing over visitation rights. Potter fought in court to have the deed transfer reversed — but he lost because the four-year statute of limitations in the case had expired. Finally, in January, Cottrill filed an eviction notice against Potter, and made it known she and her husband were interested in selling the house. Fraley started an online campaign on his behalf, trying to raise money that could be offered to Cottrill for the home. Cottrill’s husband, Dean, previously said they would drop the eviction if Potter left his son alone and stopped the lawsuits. Through the Go Fund Me campaign, Potter raised an astounding $139,603 in two months. But instead of rushing to offer the entire amount to Cottrill, Fraley said, Potter had a market appraisal done of the home. Its value was pegged at only $47,000, plus $2,830 for the land. When they made their official offer, Cottrill instead counteroffered $85,000 plus attorney and eviction process fees. Potter decided last week to increase his offer to $60,005.23 But Cottrill and her husband declined to bite. “He will be evicted,” Fraley said of her grandfather. “The judge has no choice. His hands are tied.” There is a silver lining at least: The money raised through Go Fund Me will be enough for Potter to find a new house or help remodel his caretaker’s home so that he can move in there, Fraley said. “Some people who donated were adamant that they didn’t want (Cottrill) to get the money anyway. They said, ‘Don’t give them this money. Go buy grandpa another house!’” Fraley added. Potter has been sharing his thoughts on videos posted to YouTube, and has thanked the anonymous donors for their generosity. Fraley said she plans to record another video this weekend. According to Mail Online A mentally-disabled woman and her five-year-old daughter were held in ‘modern-day slavery’ for two years by three people in northeast Ohio who abused them and kept them in line with venomous snakes and pit bulls, it was revealed today. Federal prosecutors say 26-year-old Jordie Callahan and 31-year-old Jessica Hunt utterly manipulated Shannon Eckley – even forcing her to beat her own daughter so they could record it on video. They allegedly told her that if she ever fled her bondage, they would use the footage to ensure her child was taken away from her. Between May 2011 and October 2012, Eckley and her daughter were locked in the basement of an apartment in Ashland, Ohio, and forced to do housework and look after Hunt’s four children. All the while, Callahan and Hunt stole her government benefits and used the money on themselves, authorities say. Eckley’s enslavement bears chilling similarity to the case of Ariel Castro – the man who was charged last month with kidnapping three woman and keeping them against their will in his house for ten years while he repeatedly raped, beat and emotionally tortured them. Castro’s house of horrors is located in Cleveland, Ohio, 65miles northeast of Ashland. Charges filed against Callahan and Hunt reveal that they treated her worse than the numerous dogs and reptiles they kept as pets – even feeding the animals in front of her while depriving her of food and water. ‘We are yet again reminded that modern-day slavery exists all around us,’ U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Steven M. Dettelbach said. Authorities say the pair, along with Daniel J. Brown, 33, took controlled every aspect of life for Eckley, who is said to have the mental capacity of a 13-year-old girl after she sustained a head injury years ago. Perhaps the most disturbing allegation against the three is that they forced Eckley to beat her own child – who was just a toddler at the time. Eckley told investigators that Callahan and Hunt demanded that she hit her daughter and told her that if she did not, they would beat the child even more viciously. They then recorded a video of the abuse on a cell phone. They told her if she ever ‘messed up’ or went to police, they would show it to authorities and Eckley’s daughter would be taken away from her, according to prosecutors Callahan and Hunt invited Eckley and her daughter to come live with them in May 2011. It is unknown how she knew the couple. Authorities allege she arrived in a living hell. Once she moved in, the pair began treating her as a slave. They initially locked her in the basement and forced her to sleep on the concrete floor without a mattress. They deprived her of food – while lavishing attention on their animals. Eckley was only allowed to eat the leftovers after Callahan, Hunt and Hunt’s four children had already eaten. Once, Eckley said, she and her young daughter had not eaten all day. Instead of giving the leftovers from dinner to her, Callahan gave the food to his dogs and made Eckley watch. Eckley was not allowed to feed her child fruit or vegetables, but she alleges that she was made to give fresh fruit to an iguana that roamed freely in her bedroom. In October 2012, on one of her trips to the store, Eckley was arrested for shoplifting after stealing a candy bar. She told police that she wanted to go jail because the people she lived with ‘were mean to her.’ The officer then questioned Callahan and Hunt, who showed him the video of Eckley beating her child. Eckley was arrested and charged, but further investigation revealed the the deplorable conditions she was living under, authorities say. Modern day slavery is no joke. Per multiple reports, Wanetta Gibson, the woman who falsely accused linebacker Brian Banks of rape when they were both students at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, has been ordered to repay $2.6 million in damages related to the $1.5 million she received from the Long Beach School District in a 2007 lawsuit, claiming an unsafe environment. Gibson was sued for the money she received, as well as court costs and a possible $1 million in punitive damages. Gibson was not present at the ruling and her whereabouts are unknown, per the Long Beach Press-Telegram, but the court gained authorization to recoup the money through her future wages and property. It’s important to note that Banks receives none of this money. He served five years in prison and another five years on probation as a result of the original verdict, and was only released in 2012 when Banks taped her admitting that the accusation was false. “The court recognizes that our school district was a victim in this case,” school Superintendent Christopher J. Steinhauser told the Press-Telegram. “This judgment demonstrates that when people attempt to defraud our school system, they will feel the full force of the law.” It is also possible that Gibson could face fraud charges, depending upon the court’s opinion as to whether her 2012 recanting constitutes an admission of fraud. If the original accusation is the basis for such a charge, the three-year statute of limitations for fraud charges to be brought would void any such action. Karma has finally come back for that a$$!
