This is so sad. The remains of missing Atlanta woman Stacey English were identified Wednesday, however her cause of death is still a mystery. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office said Wednesday that the body of a woman found under a tree in south Atlanta has been identified as Stacey Nicole English, the Atlanta bank employee reported missing last month. English’s Volvo S260 was discovered, with the engine running, on Dec. 27 less than a mile away from the wooded area where two men searching for scrap metal located the body Monday. The 36-year-old SunTrust instructional designer was reported missing by family members on Dec. 31. Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos said authorities received a 911 call about the discovery shortly before 3 p.m. Monday. The body was located off St. Johns Avenue near Aaron’s Amphitheater at Lakewood “in an advanced state of decomposition,” Campos said. English’s family was notified of the discovery. Atlanta police, with the assistance of Georgia State Patrol dive teams, had conducted massive searches of the area around Lakewood Fairgrounds in recent weeks but turned up no sign of English. Monday, Campos could not say if police had canvassed St. Johns Avenue on Jan. 6, when K-9 units and officers on horseback combed the area. Robert Kirk, of St. Louis, was the last person known to have seen English. He told detectives the woman began “acting peculiar” the night of Dec. 26, asking him if he was Satan. She told him to leave her apartment and Kirk told police he did, checking into a hotel, according to the incident report. Police said there is no evidence linking Kirk to English’s disappearance. Investigators have said there also was nothing to indicate English met with foul play, though they acknowledged “suspicious circumstances” in her disappearance. According to the incident report, English’s mother, Cindy Jamison, told investigators her daughter, a Fayette County High School graduate, had attempted suicide nearly three years ago and said she was taking an undisclosed medication. “We don’t know if she may have taken something else that caused a bad reaction, but the prescription was for something that has nothing to do with any mental illness,” Charlie Garnett-Benson, a longtime friend of the missing woman, told the AJC earlier this month. A few years ago, Kim Kardashian was a presenter for the Trevor Project’s annual fundraiser and never forgot their powerful message of helping save young lives from suicide. So when the star did a charity event with Cantor Fitzgerald, an investment bank that gives away millions every year on 9/11 to honor their employees who died in the attack, she picked the Trevor Project as her charity. The non-profit that takes calls from gay and questioning youth has call centers in Los Angeles, New York and in San Francisco — in the very spot that Harvey Milk took calls when he was a Supervisor in the 70s. So Kim helped raise $50,000 — making her one of the largest celebrity donors to the organization joining the ranks of Daniel Radcliffe and Jodie Foster, who have made substantial contributions over the years. A beaming Kelly was overcome with joy when speaking about her BFF’s three-week-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. “She is just more precious than a diamond. She’s just so stunning,” gushed Kelly. “I’m so happy for my sister and her husband. She’s beautiful.” The new parents are in heaven. “She’s an incredible mother. I’m so incredibly proud of her, so proud of her,” added Kelly. “She’s in mommyville and I’m so happy for her and her husband’s in daddyville, and the baby is very beautiful.” How wonderful! Mitt Romney’s tax return was finally released today as his campaign bowed to political pressure and released hundreds of pages of tax documents. What did we learn? That he’s really rich and pays a really low rate on capital gains. Basically, while the Republican presidential candidate’s tax returns offers glimpses into his sprawling investments, both in the U.S. and abroad, they don’t tell voters much we didn’t already know or assume was true about the former Bain Capital CEO. Romney had an effective federal income tax rate in 2010 of 13.9 percent, paying about $3 million in taxes on an adjusted gross income of $21.6 million. The vast majority came from stocks, mutual funds and other investments, typically taxed a rate of 15 percent – significantly lower than normal income. Of course, this is the case because the money Romney invested was, theoretically, earned via his success and already taxed at higher rates once before. Rather than making that defense, however, Romney has been evasive about his taxes for weeks, potentially reflected in Saturday’s S.C. primary results . Both rates are much lower than the rates paid by either President Obama or Newt Gingrich, Romney’s GOP rival who released his tax returns last week. The President earned $1,728,096 in 2010 and paid $453,770 (26.3%) in taxes. Newt earned $3,142,066 that year and was taxed $994,708 (31.7%). The figures certainly won’t help Romney make the case that he understands and fights for the issues of ordinary Americans – not his strong suit as it is. Nevertheless, he’s better off being transparent going forward and trying to use his wealth as a positive, rather than a hindrance due to his own shiftiness. That is, if he can answer anything without focus grouping it.

Not only are high school seniors performing at the same level as 13 year old white kids, they’re performing at the same level as they did 30 years ago. “We take kids that start [high school] a little behind and by the time they finish high school, they’re way behind,” says Amy Wilkins, vice president for government affairs and communications at the Education Trust, a Washington-based educational advocacy group. “That’s the opposite of what American values say education is about. Education is supposed to level the playing field. And it does the opposite. . . .While many people are celebrating our postracial society . . . there is still a significant hangover in our schools.” The Education Trust says African-American and Latino students have made little to no progress in 12th-grade reading scores since 1994, continuing to lag behind white students. Math achievement has also remained flat, with the gap between white students and those of color widening. Educators cite these causes for the disparity in performance: Lowered expectations for students of color Growing income inequality and lack of resources in low-income school districts Unequal access to experienced teachers An increased number of “out of field” teachers instructing minority students in subjects outside their area of expertise Unconscious bias” by teachers and administrators. This is truly alarming news. We’d say that Obama needs to do something but we’re not sure what he can do. It’s time to make some demands on a local city and community level. Let’s figure it out. Comedienne and actress Chelsea Handler is finally opening up about her brief romance with 50 Cent . Although the pair denied their relationship while it was in progress, Handler went on the Howard Stern Show and told the shock jock she broke up with him because one of his ex-girlfriends was coming on her late night talk show. She says she called 50 “the worst thing you can call a black person, just short of the N-word.” Chelsea then went on to blast Mariah Carey . She feels that Carey is worse than Elizabeth Taylor and doesn’t know what planet Mariah Carey lives on. Troy was on “Judge Alex” being sued by an Augusta, Georgia concert promoter who said the ATL rapper failed to show up at an Augusta club performance. Troy’s manager told Judge Alex that his client has a violent history with Augusta and never would have agreed to the show if he had known the club was so close to Augusta. “People who wanna pop a cap in you aren’t gonna drive 20 minutes?” asked Judge Alex.
