‘Like Crazy’ co-star Anton Yelchin saw Lawrence ‘transform’ into Katniss Everdeen at the gym. By Eric Ditzian Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate We’d heard “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence talk about the intensity of her workouts to prepare for the role of the arrow-slinging reluctant warrior Katniss Everdeen . And we’d heard director Gary Ross brag on his star’s behalf, using phrases like “intensely physical,” “physically demanding” and “very rigorous” to describe Lawrence’s training program. But the Oscar-nominated actress’ physical transformation into the District 12 tribute didn’t really hit home until we checked out the “Hunger Games” teaser footage we debuted in August at the MTV Video Music Awards. We just didn’t know what to expect. Her “Like Crazy” co-star Anton Yelchin, however, knew exactly what was coming. Months after their romantic drama premiered at Sundance (and walked away with the Grand Jury Prize), the duo ended up at the same gym, prepping for the next steps in their cinematic careers. “I was training for a film called ‘Odd Thomas’ that I was doing at the same gym Jen was training [at for] the bow stuff and all the running,” Yelchin told MTV News recently. “I got to see her and talk to her. I think she’s amazing, and she’s a good friend of mine.” And after checking out the “Hunger Games” teaser, Yelchin had firsthand knowledge of what it took for Lawrence to become Katniss. He was impressed, but not surprised. “When I saw Jen, it was different kinds of physical training she was going through, like running training,” he said. “She’s such a powerful person. She can do anything she puts her mind to. If she needs to transform for something, she’ll transform. If she needs to learn how to kill you with the bow, she’ll do that. Really?? After all of that “freedom of religion gives us the right to be here,” the people who were so determined to open a mosque up the street from World Trade Center haven’t been paying their rent. Or at least that’s what their landlord would like us to believe. Lower Manhattan’s controversial Park51 Islamic center is now in a court battle with utility Consolidated Edison, which says the center owes it $1.7 million in a dispute over back rent. In court papers, Park51 says it owes Con Edison only $881,000 and calls the utility’s demand “grossly inflated.” The center has filed suit against the company over a default notice it was issued in September, and a New York state judge has stayed any action until after a hearing in November. In a statement to CNN on Sunday, Con Edison said it “remains hopeful” that it can work out an agreement with Park51, which leases part of its property from the utility. Park51′s developers did not return a phone call seeking comment. The center, which includes a mosque, drew intense opposition in 2010 from politicians, conservative activists and some families of the victims of the al Qaeda attack on the World Trade Center. The twin towers stood about two blocks from the site before they were destroyed by the suicide hijackings on September 11, 2001, leading critics to dub the project the “Ground Zero Mosque.” The interfaith center’s leaders said the project will be a 16-story community center with recreational, educational and cultural programming rooted in a spirit of cooperation and coexistence. City officials refused to block its construction, and Park51 held its grand opening in September. According to court documents, Park51 has exercised an option to purchase the Con Edison portion of the site for $10.7 million. The center says it has been paying $2,750 a month — minuscule by New York standards — under its initial lease. The rent was to be recalculated based on the market value of the property after it renewed the lease in 2008, but disputes over the appraisal lasted until this August. In September, Con Edison demanded the $1.7 million it said it was owed. “The lease for the property calls for the tenant to pay this money now that an appraisal process has been completed,” the utility told CNN. “Under the terms of the lease, Con Edison requested payment of outstanding rent, but to date, tenant has not yet made the required payment.” The people behind the Islamic Center think this is just a new tactic to get them out of the building. The hosting news fills out a roster that already includes a performance from Minaj, who will share the stage with Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, LMFAO, Jennifer Lopez, Maroon 5 with Christina Aguilera and David Guetta with Usher. The show also unveiled the nominees for this year’s Sprint New Artist of the Year award, which includes Hot Chelle Rae and Foster the People in the pop category, LMFAO and Wiz Khalifa in Hip-Hop, Marsha Abrosius and Miguel in Soul/R&B and the Band Perry and Thompson Square in Country. This year’s nominees are headed by a group of female acts, with Adele topping the list at four, followed by Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry with three. The Artist of the Year race will pit lone male Lil Wayne against Gaga, Perry, Adele and Taylor Swift. The Pop or Rock Music: Favorite Album nominees also belong to the women, with Gaga’s Born This Way, Rihanna’s Loud and Adele’s 21. Meanwhile, the Pop or Rock Music: Favorite Female Artist nominees are Adele, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. There are some gentlemen in the mix, of course: The Pop or Rock Music: Favorite Male Artist nominees are Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and Pitbull. The Rap/Hip-Hop Music: Favorite Artist nominees include Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Kanye West. All three nominees are also up for Rap/Hip-Hop Music: Favorite Album with Tha Carter IV, Pink Friday and the Jay-Z-assisted Watch the Throne, respectively. Young Money Records President Mack Maine exclusively revealed to MTV News that not only is Weezy about to lay down tracks for a sequel to his Rebirth rock album, but the “How to Love” hitmaker is already knee-deep in recording a follow-up to 2010’s I Am Not a Human Being LP. “He’s, like, 12 songs in, and he went crazy. He went left. He’s in Martian land right now,” Mack said of I Am Not a Human Being 2. The original Human Being was released digitally in September 2010 while Birdman Jr. was in jail. Though Wayne wasn’t around to promote it, the album contained singles like “Right Above” with Drake and “I’m Single” and has been certified gold by the RIAA. The physical copy of the album debuted at #1 when it dropped in October 2010. According to the YM prez, each separate album franchise allows Wayne the chance to showcase different artistic sides. “He gets to show his rock side, he gets to show his gangsta side and talk to the women on one side,” Mack said of the Rebirth and Carter series, respectively. “On I Am Not a Human Being, he is definitely showing some weirdo, left-brain, I’m-not-from-here type side. He can say what he wants. There are no boundaries, there are no limits.” However diverse he may be in the booth, when Wayne performs live, he is able to pool all his collective talents together — as well as their respective fans. “He captures all those different audiences, and then at a concert or a show, you bring all those different people together,” Mack explained. “You bring your Rebirth rock people, you bring your Carter people, and you bring your I Am Not a Human Being [crowd], and you have a great show. It was bash Teresa Giudice night at The Real Housewives of New Jersey Reunion but she certainly invited the abuse. THG breaks it all down in our + or – review … Jacqueline Laurita bowed out of the event. Minus 5 . I always thought the players were contractually obligated to show up for these things, even when they all hated one another and looked like fools at the end. But it looked like Bravo let her slide. The turmoil had something to do with Teresa and an event that took place in season four which was currently being filmed. I suppose that’s more reason to tune in next season. Caroline earned a Plus 12 when she admitted she was mean to Melissa and Kathy Waklie at the start of the season. She had judged them on what Teresa had told her before ever having met them. That was unfair but at least she owned up to it. Teresa still swore what she wrote in her cookbook was nothing but a joke. She won’t say which of her three sister in laws she was insulting and sees nothing wrong with throwing out barbs about Caroline’s son. Minus 8 . There was nothing funny in what she wrote and she can’t see anyone’s opinion but her own. We had to sit through yet one more showing of the christening debacle. Minus 5 . I hope to never have to watch that nonsense again. At least the housewives had the decency to lapse into stunned silence after it was shown. Melissa Gorga earned a Plus 10 for admitting that her husband helped escalate the fight. That’s progress. Another Plus 10 to Joe Gorga who supposedly told Caroline he regretted his actions and knew he was going to get a public beating after it was shown. Of course Caroline was blunt as ever and agreed with him. When asked, Kathy said that Teresa and Joe Gorgas’ tempers were acceptable. That they’re just passionate people. Bull. Minus 11 . They’re adults who should know better than to scream, curse, and throw things like foul mouthed toddlers having a tantrum. I don’t mean to be the grammar nazi but what is with the “yous”? Listening to the Housewives families speak was like watching My Cousin Vinny week after week. Minus 10 . I almost couldn’t believe that Teresa Giudice could tell Melissa she wasn’t a good wife because she didn’t invite herself to the premiere party while she was in the hospital with a newborn, then went on to accuse her of marrying Joe for his money and followed it up by saying Melissa was the one ruining things. “We’re in a good place. Why are you going back there?” Does the woman not listen to what she says. She’s the one who was dragging out past history. Minus another 10 . Did anyone else get the feeling that Teresa’s completely clueless about her family’s legal and financial troubles or that bankruptcy fraud could end them up in federal prison? Her “call my lawyer” response to Andy was the smartest thing she said all night. Plus 8 . Plus 15 to Caroline Manzo who called the entire conversation a “whirlwind of stupid.” Yup. And didn’t you go to Harvard? We’re all slackers by comparison, you realize. JONES: It’s just who I am, I guess. I came out of the womb reading books and thinking about my next project. I’m a born nerd. There’s also this thing of wanting to make your parents proud. Q2 PLAYBOY: But with parents like Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton, shouldn’t you be lounging around your pool all day? JONES: Look, I have parents who have accomplished so much. I have a father who came from nothing and conquered the world. The last thing I’m going to do is sit here and spend his money and try to look pretty. That’s not interesting to me at all. I’ve been acting professionally for 15 years, and I’ve had to prove myself. Someone may think, Oh, everything was handed to her, but it doesn’t really work that way. The nice thing about comedy in particular is that it’s a meritocracy. Funny people aren’t going to have you around because you know other people. You have to make people laugh. Q10 PLAYBOY: You seem so wholesome. Were you ever really bad? JONES: Well, in high school I never drank, I never smoked, I never smoked weed.
