Diddy-Dirty Money Stage New York Takeover On Coming Home Tour

Ja Rule, Ashanti also surprise fans before Diddy pays homage to B.I.G. with Bad Boy alums Faith Evans, Black Rob and more at Hammerstein Ballroom. By Rebecca Thomas Diddy performs at the Diddy-Dirty Money Coming Home Tour in New York City Friday Photo: Getty Images NEW YORK — It was the homecoming leg on his Coming Home Tour, so it was only fitting that Harlem-born Diddy threw a Ciroc-soaked “white party” on Friday as Diddy-Dirty Money hit New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The trio worked the dance hits from their Last Train to Paris, but this was a show in three acts, with the mogul/MC reaching back to the dawn of Bad Boy to pay an expansive tribute to “Brooklyn’s Finest” MC, the Notorious B.I.G., and bringing concertgoers along on a visual/sonic journey that spanned his unstoppable career. Diddy-Dirty Money divas Dawn Richard and Kalenna Harper preceded the mogul/MC to the stage in looks that seemed to channel Grace Jones: Dawn in a thigh-baring cutout dress and Kalenna in a glittery romper, both sharing the creamy palette with Diddy, who was dressed in a sporty, all-white ensemble. The ladies kicked things off with “Yeah, Yeah You Would” (which features Jones), before an energetic Diddy emerged for the dance-floor banger “Ass on the Floor,” with Swizz Beatz delivering the hook via a pre-taped clip that was mounted on enormous projectors — an artfully executed stand-in used throughout the night for other LTP features like Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. “Ain’t no place like home!” Sean Combs told the excited crowd, touching on his Mt. Vernon, New York, upbringing and breaking down why no other city can match New York’s swag. An emotional undercurrent coursed through the entire show, and the series of delays that plagued Last Train to Paris, 41-year-old Combs’ risk-taking concept album, seemed to be a particularly poignant coda on Friday night. Mr. “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” danced with abandon, his son Justin briefly joining him onstage with some sharp moves of his own. But Justin was only the first of a string of cameos, many from artists who’d once batted on Bad Boy’s chart-busting lineup. After performing “Loving You No More,” “Yesterday” and a moody Sade medley from Dawn and K that seemed to slow things down too much for the club-like atmosphere they’d created, a B.I.G. video montage set the tone for the show’s second act. Memorable images of the young Bedford Stuyvesant MC and budding mogul Puff Daddy flashed across the screen, following a linear “This Is Your Life”- style narrative. Dawn and Kalenna ceded the stage to Diddy entirely as he launched into Bad Boy Records’ shiny-suit era smashes, from “All About the Benjamins” to “Mo Money, Mo Problems.” The New York audience lost it for the familiar classics, but went ‘ham for the familiar faces. Formerly incarcerated Black Rob, in requisite black hoodie, turned up for “Whoa”; newly raven-haired Faith Evans sang a silky version of her “Love Like This”; and Junior M.A.F.I.A.’s Lil’ Cease made a cameo. “I was looking for inspiration before Last Train to Paris, and I was walking in Central Park one day and I heard this song,” Diddy recalled, introducing A Tribe Called Quest MC and longtime Diddy pal Q-Tip. The duo treated fans to a spirited dance-off as they ticked off Tribe standards like “Check the Rhime” and Tip’s “Vivrant Thing.” But the presence of the late Christopher Wallace hovered over the proceedings. Diddy, now rocking a vintage Versace shirt, profusely thanked his fallen brother as more B.I.G. videos played on an overhead screen to cheers and shouts. The standing-room crowd, waving hands and phones in the air, was fired up for the nostalgic trip. Things drew to an end with the other two thirds of DDM taking their places onstage again for the triumphant, introspective “Coming Home,” followed by closer “Hello, Good Morning.” Opening act Lloyd had a few special guests of his own, bringing out his onetime Murder Inc. labelmates Ashanti and Ja Rule, who’s several weeks away from a two-year jail sentence on gun charges. The gruff-voiced Ja showed little signs of rust on his Ashanti-featuring “Always on Time,” the infectious chart-topping single that ruled the summer a decade ago. Lloyd’s Young Money brethren and fellow opener, Tyga, hopped back onstage to drop his “BedRock” verse. And a go-go breakdown of “Lay Your Head” accompanied Wale’s appearance with the crooner. Young Money President Mack Maine Plans New Label

Still-untitled imprint will be under the Cash Money umbrella. By Rob Markman Mack Maine Photo: Alexander Tamargo/ Getty Images Birdman ‘s Cash Money and Lil Wayne ‘s Young Money labels haven’t been shy about signing new talent and releasing music. After dropping debut albums from both Drake and Nicki Minaj in 2010, YMCMB have artists Tyga, Lil Twist, Cory Gunz, Mack Maine, Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda and R&B alternative singer Shanell all waiting to drop LPs. Add already-established acts such as Birdman, Bow Wow and Lil Wayne to the mix, and it’s easy to see how some artists on the roster can get lost in the shuffle. Well, Young Money president Mack Maine has a plan to ensure fans see a steady flow of Cash Money-helmed releases. “You know how Roc-A-Fella had State Property; I’m actually in the process of starting a new label … a sub-label, basically,” Mack said of the still-untitled imprint that he will head under the Cash Money umbrella. Wayne is scheduled to drop Tha Carter IV on June 21, and there are plans for Birdman’s fifth solo album, Bigger Than Life , to follow in July. And, that isn’t all: According to the YM prez, Tyga will be dropping Careless World this year, Lil Twist will be putting out his first effort, Don’t Get it Twisted , and Drake is readying his sophomore LP, Take Care . “[Drake] let me hear 10 songs the other night — 10 bangers he’s working,” Mack said. “Drake’s coming in September, just know that.” Not to be left out, Mack himself also will be releasing an album this summer. With at least six projects already on the proposed schedule, the New Orleans rapper/executive said adding a third label to the YMCM structure will help facilitate the flow of releases. “I want to make sure I put a few people out through that vessel instead of putting everybody out under the same label, which is hard,” he said. “But we’re all one big family.” Which Young Money Cash Money project are you most excited for? Tyga Wants Careless World Debut To Tell ‘A Story’

The New West frontrunner tells MTV News, ‘A lot of people they just know me based off of verses, features.’ By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway and Rob Markman Tyga Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News As MTV News’ New West Week comes to a close, the question is which of the myriad of MC talents coming out of the L.A. hip-hop scene is most likely to enjoy mainstream success. While the acts we’ve covered — Kendrick Lamar, Pac Div and Nipsey Hussle, to name a few — all have solid chances, the artist with the track record and best tools in place to succeed is Young Money’s Tyga. The Compton rapper already has certified hits under his belt. Even before making his YMCMB affiliation official, Tyga scored a hit with “Coconut Juice” in 2008. Then he made sure he wasn’t forgotten among the Young Money pack by dropping guest verses on hits like “BedRock” and “Roger That.” But it was last year’s collaboration with his buddy Chris Brown on their joint Fan of a Fan mixtape that spawned Tyga’s biggest hit to date, the Grammy nominated “Deuces.” Now Tyga is prepping his forthcoming album, Careless World, which he told MTV News is about 75 percent done. “You’re going to see more of a story and more into Tyga’s world and what I represent, the story that I’m trying to tell,” Tyga explained about the album. “I feel like a lot of people they just know me based off of verses, features, heavy rap songs, mixtape stuff. Which is cool because I love to do that — this is rap music — but at the same time, I make a lot of real good music also. “I don’t think a lot of people are on to that yet,” Tyga added. “I just dropped a mixtape, Black Thoughts 2, that was I say, maybe 25, 35 percent of what my album is going to sound like.” In the meantime, before Careless World gets its release later this year, Tyga is taking his music to the people. Although he isn’t a part of the Weezy-headlined I Am Still Music Tour, he’s currently on Diddy-Dirty Money’s Coming Home Tour . Diddy thought enough of Tyga to bring him on his tour, and on Thursday MTV News spoke to Young Money president Mack Maine, who told us he’s excited about pushing the Cali MC’s project forward. “I’m definitely looking forward, his buzz is up, it’s ridiculous,” Mack said. “We’re about to drop this single soon, it’s called ‘Far Away,’ featuring Chris Richardson and from there it’s basically, we need to capitalize. He also has another song that I’m waiting for Nicki to do her verse on. We’ll try to drop that single. From there, let’s just see when the people are ready for his album. But he got a lot of songs done so we’re definitely trying to put him out before the end of the year.” When Careless World does drop it will surely have plenty of YMCMB participation but Tyga assures it won’t be a scattershot compilation. “I just like to make the music organic,” Tyga said. “If I feel like, ‘This person on this will be real dope,’ then I’mma reach out and get the feature. But it’s all about making great music. If there’s features on every track but it’s great music, I mean hey … either you love it or you don’t.” Stick with us all week as MTV News turns the spotlight on the New West, the next wave of hip-hop acts helping restore faith in the L.A. rap scene. Tyga Encourages West Coast MCs To Be ‘More Worldly’

Young Money rapper, who was born in California, visits ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Tyga Photo: MTV News This week, MTV is celebrating the “New West” by spotlighting California-bred artists like Odd Future, Nipsey Hussle, Dom Kennedy, Casey Veggies and, of course, this week’s “RapFix Live” guest Tyga. Sitting with MTV News’ Sway Calloway, Tyga commented on L.A.’s new sound, remarking that the new crop of Cali spitters fair better when employing a more-universal sound. It’s this attitude that Tyga said has helped rookie West Coast rappers make their mark in a post-gangsta-rap era. “I don’t think it’s that hard to break out of L.A. because there are a lot of new artists out,” he said. While the West Coast was traditionally associated with N.W.A. and Dr. Dre’s signature sound, things have been changing over the past few years. “Back in the day, when you had N.W.A., that was the sound for music, and a lot of L.A. artists sound like they’re from L.A. when they rap and stuff, and a lot of people around the world won’t relate as much,” said Tyga, who is currently signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money label. “Odd Future, for example: [The group’s frontman] Tyler don’t sound like he from L.A., so he can get out to more people and his music can be more worldly because it’s a new sound.” Do you agree with Tyga about L.A.’s sound? Tyga Says Lil Wayne Supports His Diddy-Dirty Money Tour Gig

‘You have to really go out and grind for your own and build your own fanbase,’ Young Money MC tells Sway during ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Tyga on “RapFix Live” Photo: Rich Sancho/ MTV News When Sean “Diddy” Combs decided to take his Last Train to Paris show on the road , he tapped one of Young Money’s brightest stars, Tyga, to come with him as an opening act. And even though Lil Wayne’s I Am Still Music Tour is running concurrently with Diddy-Dirty Money’s Coming Home trek, Tyga insists there are no conflicts between the camps at all. In fact, the YM soldier said Wayne encourages his artists to branch out. “Wayne told us: Don’t rely on him to make you hot, don’t rely on him for the hits. You have to really go out and grind for your own and build your own fanbase,” Tyga told Sway during MTV News’ “Rap Fix Live.” “That’s important. People respect that more, too, when you can build your own foundation and they can really get to you as an artist and not get to know you as a group.” The Grammy-nominated L.A. rapper said he has learned a lot by watching the D-DM stage show and that Combs often comes to him for performance tips as well. “Every time he comes to me after the show and is like, ‘How was that? Was the show dope? Tell me what you think,’ ” Tyga said. ” And I tell him stuff like, ‘Maybe you should add that song right there to keep the energy’ or whatever. It’s a lot of respect out there.” Diddy-Dirty Money’s 20-city tour kicked off last week in Minneapolis and will makes stops in Toronto, Boston and NYC before concluding in St. Louis on May 15. 8 Tips To Eating Healthy This Easter

Read more:

Just when you thought all the holidays were behind you — and no longer threatening your weight-loss — along comes Easter. Towering displays of marshmallow chicks and chocolate bunnies fill the stores, and you or your relatives may be planning a massive feast. Here are 8 tips to survive this weekend 1- Watch that basket Focus on the meaning and the nonfood traditions of the holiday rather than the meals. I make one basket for the house so that all guests that visit can partake. 2- Don’t sit down to dinner on an empty stomach.- You’ll be more likely to overeat. Make sure that you do not starve yourself so that you can sit down and “enjoy” a good meal. 3- Be active – Go for a walk before church or coordinate a street-wide Easter egg hunt or parade. You would be amazed at all the local offerings. Get outside! 4- Rethink that Easter basket- Purchase nontraditional gifts (books, costume jewelry, gift certificates) are even more appreciated than the usual candy, consider making healthy meal substitutions. The toys are not as cheap when we were little and will last. 5- Shift your focus -Remind yourself that holidays are not about a whole season, a whole weekend or even a whole day. Think about what is actually on the menu you are planning. Is there anything that you can tweak. You might surprise yourself and your family with something new. 6- “Un”-Chocolate Eggs – Instead of buying lots of candy, buy plastic eggs and fill them with stickers, money or small toys. This has become a big hit in my household. 7- Spread the wealth – Don’t buy a big bag of candy. But if it ends up that you have one: Share, share, share! It will make you the most popular adult this holiday. Adults like to share in candy they only see once a year. I had a co-worker who collected peeps. Yes those marshmallow toothaches. 8- Change the sweets to natural sweets – Now is a good time to switch out candy for fruit that is in season. This year I will be usuing small cellophane packets of raisins and sunflower seeds in the basket. Most of all have fun!  Enjoy the holiday with others and that alone  surpasses wanting to eat. MTV News caught up with Radcliffe recently and talk turned to his affiliation with the gay rights/ civil liberties causes, so we asked if he’d ever come into contact with another passionate supporter: Lady Gaga. His response wasn’t quite what was expected. “No, never, although my mom and dad, bizarrely, went to her concert,” Radcliffe said with a laugh. “Like, my parents at a Lady Gaga concert, which I just think is the coolest, oddest thing … they’re ahead of me on most things pop culture.”
