Roland Martin may not think Tracy Morgan has to apologize for his anti-gay rhetoric last week, but the actor himself is sounding truly contrite about his infamous routine in Nashville on June 3. “I know how bad bullying can hurt,” Morgan told Marc Malkin of E! News. “I was bullied when I was a kid. I’m sorry for what I said. I didn’t mean it. I never want to use my comedy to hurt anyone. My family knew what it was like to feel different. My brother was disabled and I lost my father to AIDS in 1987.” The 30 Rock star says “gay people deserve the same right to be happy in this country as everyone else. Our laws should support that.” And he will be doing all he can to ensure these words don’t ring hollow. Later this week, Morgan will sit down with gay teens who have been cast out by their families; he will also speak to those who have lost a loved one due to anti-gay violence. Moreover, the comedian will head to Tennessee next week and meet with GLADD – one of the organizations that challenged him to apologize – to take part in a press conference that protests the state’s recent passage of a bill that bars discussion of homosexuality in classrooms prior to ninth grade. He’ll alo shoot a PSA. It’s nice to hear that something good might come from the mess Morgan created.

Tracy Morgan has come under severe scrutiny for a stand-up comedic performance last Friday where he openly bashed homosexuals. Kevin Rodgers attended the show where he reported via Facebook: “I figured at some point the gay jokes would fly and I’m well prepared for a good ribbing of straight gay humor. I have very thick skin when it comes to humor; I can dish and I can take. Less than four months after Brandy helped her raise the funds needed to get a heart transplant, 17-year-old Jessica Harris has passed away. Harris, who lived in the same town of McComb, Mississippi, where Brandy was raised, died at a New York hospital on Thursday, Brandy said. The singer/actress started a campaign to raise funds for surgery to correct Jessica’s congenital heart defect after meeting Harris last year. The teen finally received the transplant in late February. “Jessica was and will always be an inspiration to our family. In the face of her illness, her courageous spirit and positive outlook gave us memories we will cherish for a lifetime,” the singer and her family said in a statement on Friday. “We were touched by the outpouring of generosity from the public when we set up a fund on her behalf to help cover her medical and travel expenses,” the statement added. Brandy thanked those who donated to the fund and the hospital that carried out the heart transplant — the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in New York. Harris suffered from hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and was denied medical insurance through her father’s job because she was deemed to be suffering from a preexisting condition.
