Charlie Sheen Car Stolen, Driven Off Cliff… Again

Who would have thought that the strangest thing about Charlie Sheen’s life would NOT involve drugs or prostitution… but car theft?!? For the second time in four months, the actor has had his car stolen and driven off a cliff. In February, authorities found Sheen’s SUV off Mulholland Drive . He later admitted that he left the keys in the ignition and no suspects were ever apprehended for the crime. Now, THE SAME THING HAS SOMEHOW HAPPENED AGAIN. According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, Sheen once again left his keys inside his Mercedes, which was parked in his driveway… which is located inside a gated community. Charlie Sheen: A moron, a scheming individual or both? Police alerted the actor to the car’s disappearance around 3 a.m. this morning. They then located it on the side of the road in Beverly Hills, less than a mile from where the original incident took place. Sources say the cops are referring to this situation as “suspicious,” while one officer told Us Weekly : “The investigation is ongoing. It’s impounded for [finger] printing.”

Two Marines Charged With Assaulting Gay Man

Two Marines were arrested early Saturday in Savannah, Ga. and charged with misdemeanor battery after they beat a gay man they claimed was “harassing” them with a wink. According to the Savannah Morning News, police chased down Joseph Cronauer (pictured) and Christopher Charles Stanzel around 4 A.M. in downtown Savannah as friends performed first aid on Kieran Daly, who lay unconscious on the ground. “Cronauer and Stanzel told police they were being harassed by a gay man and wanted to get away from him. But witnesses painted a different picture, according to the report. They told police one of the men grew angry because he thought Daly was winking at him and struck Daly in the back of the head with his fist, knocking him unconscious.” Daly was admitted to Memorial University Medical Center, where doctors diagnosed him with bruises to his brain. He suffered seizures and was expected to remain hospitalized for several days. He denied winking at his attackers, the Morning News reported. Cronauer and Stanzel were jailed briefly, and then released to military police. Georgia does not have a hate crime law on the state level. added by: TimALoftis

Robert Pattinson Wants a Date, Better Body Than Taylor Lautner

Forget rumors about engagements and babies and other false tabloid reports concerning his love life. Robert Pattinson has far more basic desires: “I would like to go on a date,” he told Jenna Bush Hager this morning on Today . “I’m just saying. I’m just putting that out there. Because I never go on dates anymore.” If the actor is seeking company for said date, there are approximately 7.9 million THG readers that would take him up on the offer. While Robert can clearly get a date any time he wants it, the star’s other dream is unlikely to ever come true. Asked about his relationship with Taylor Lautner, Pattinson joked about the constant competition between the pair: “I want to have better hair than him. I want to have a better six-pack.” The former is already done. The latter? Sorry, Rob, but you have no chance . CHECK OUT THE INTERVIEW BELOW AND PREPARE TO SWOON, LADIES. Rob on Today

Treasury Draft Docs Vindicate IBD’s 2009 ‘Individual Private Medical Insurance Is Illegal’ Claim

In mid-July of last year, the good folks on the editorial board at Investors Business Daily made the following observations about the version of ObamaCare then under consideration by the House: … Right there on Page 16 is a provision making individual private medical insurance illegal. … the “Limitation On New Enrollment” section of the bill clearly states: “Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day” of the year the legislation becomes law. So … Those who currently have private individual coverage won’t be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers. The leaked Treasury draft documents ( 83-page PDF ) referred to in an earlier post this morning about employer coverage (at NewsBusters ; at BizzyBlog ) go beyond vindicating IBD by applying the same prohibitions to group coverage, as the following graphic from Page 14 of the document shows: Therefore, effective March 23: Individuals seeking new or alternative coverage can only buy policies that “comply with Affordable Care Act provisions from which grandfathered health plans are exempted.” Groups seeking new or alternative coverage (obviously including new groups) are in the same boat. As shown earlier this morning, any changes beyond trivial to existing group or individual policies will cause those policies to lose their grandfathered status, forcing those plans to “comply with Affordable Care Act provisions.” Thus, those looking to purchase new policies or who make even minor changes to existing policies that lead to de-grandfathering will have three choices: ObamaCare’s specified minimum coverage levels, which are far higher and far more expensive than typical private plans. Coverage that is more generous and therefore even more expensive than ObamaCare’s specified minimum — but not too generous. As commenter Gary Hall at the previous NewsBusters post noted, if one has coverage that is considered overly generous, it will run the risk of being considered a “Cadillac” plan subject to a 60% excise tax. By 2018, when that tax takes effect, the distance between ObamaCare’s high-threshold minimum coverage and where the “Cadillac tax” kicks in may not be very great. A majority of large-employer plans and plans at many small professional enterprises may end up being subject to the tax. Paying the individual penalty for either not buying insurance (for individuals) or not covering employees (for employers). In other words, individuals can’t freely engage in commercial transactions with insurance providers to buy new policies with provisions tailored to their or their employees’ particular needs and circumstances. Entering into a contract that would do so is now illegal, as IBD observed last July. In an editorial five days after its original, IBD stuck to its guns in the face of withering attacks from the establishment media outlets, “backed up” by the likes of FactCheck.org. Their common complaint was, “Well, they will still be able to buy individual insurance through the state-run ‘exchanges.'” But it was clear then and true now that they will only be able to buy coverage there that is at or above ObamaCare’s specified minimums, and in one so-called “marketplace.” In reality, the “exchanges” are the roach motels of health insurance; once you’re forced in, you can never get out. It turns out that IBD was absolutely correct last year. For affected individuals and even groups, there is no real “market” for health insurance. There is only ObamaCare, or something even more expensive. Absent repeal, anything else is outlawed. Cross-posted at BizzyBlog.com .

Today Show Cares More About Fiorina Gaffe Than Sestak Scandal

As of this Friday, NBC’s Today show has yet to mention the Joe Sestak scandal, something noted by the MRC’s Tim Graham in this Media Reality Check , however they did find time to poke fun at Republican California Senate candidate Carly Fiorina making fun of Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer’s hair in an open mic moment. On Thursday’s Today, they ran the clip of Fiorina’s gaffe three times, even leading the show with it in the opening teaser with co-anchor Meredith Vieira exclaiming: “Ay Carly! California Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina caught on an open mic making a joke about her opponent’s hair.” Interesting to note that the reporters and producers at the Today show care more about a GOP Senate candidate mocking a Democrat’s hairstyle than the White House attempting to manipulate a Senate race in Pennsylvania with a job offer. The following takes on the Fiorina vs. Boxer open mic incident were aired on the June 10 Today show: MEREDITH VIEIRA OPENING SHOW: And ay, Carly! California Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina caught on an open mic making a joke about her opponent’s hair. (Begin clip) CARLY FIORINA: Lauda saw Barbara Boxer briefly on television this morning and said what everyone says, “God! What is that hair?!” So yesterday. VIEIRA: And her campaign is calling it nothing more than small talk, today Thursday June 10th, 2010. … MEREDITH VIEIRA: And now to that open mic incident for California Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina. Take a look at what she was overheard saying just before a television interview on Wednesday. (Begin clip) CARLY FIORINA: Lauda saw Barbara Boxer briefly on television this morning and said what everyone says, “God! What is that hair?!” So yesterday. (End clip) VIEIRA: That’s the risk of those open mics. You never know. So- MATT LAUER: I can only imagine what would happen if someone heard what you say- VIEIRA: Oh my gosh! LAUER: -before the show here. VIEIRA: Zip it! … [10:03am] HODA KOTB: Speaking of a big gaff-a-rooni. KATHIE LEE GIFFORD: Yes! KOTB: Alright so Carly Fiorina was getting- GIFFORD: Gaffarina. KOTB: Gaffarina. Carly Fiorina was getting ready to do a, an interview. She, again, is getting ready to run against Senator Barbara Boxer for the seat- GIFFORD: A hotly contested seat, yeah. KOTB: Very. So what you don’t realize sometimes is when you’re waiting to do an interview, you have a mic on, and as they’re prepping you, sometimes you’re so comfortable, you’re not thinking about the fact that a mic is on and people are listening- GIFFORD: Over and over and over again this happens. KOTB: -around the globe. So this is what Carly Fiorina said about Barbara Boxer’s hair. (Begin clip) CARLY FIORINA: Lauda saw Barbara Boxer briefly on television this morning and said what everyone says, “God! What is that hair?!” So yesterday. (End clip) KOTB: Doh! Doh! That’s when you realize it’s on. GIFFORD: Busted! Busted! KOTB: Now those kind, we were asking our Facebook folks about is it, are women, I hate to say this but, yeah. Can women always remain to be catty no more matter where you are in your life? GIFFORD: If anybody videotaped our little morning thing upstairs- KOTB: Or here, in the commercials. GIFFORD: Just during commercial breaks. KOTB: No it would be, we’d be fired. GIFFORD: Let’s be honest. We all say things that, in context, we don’t mean to be hurtful. KOTB: No. No. GIFFORD: They’re just truthful. You know what I’m saying? Just true. KOTB: And Carly Fiorina, by the way, went through breast cancer. She, ’cause her, her hair has actually changed. She went through chemotherapy and the texture changed. GIFFORD: Right, right. KOTB: I know she’s also sensitive about, about that as well. But anyway it was an interesting- GIFFORD: It’s gonna be interesting to see how it affects the race, if at all. Politics is ugly. It’s just ugly, anyway. But this is, this is like a little window into a soul, you know? And people, it affects people. KOTB: Do you remember when [John] Edwards was joozing his hair in the, remember he was like, and they played that song? Breck Girl, the Breck Girl song or whatever. When he was doing – like it’s funny when little things can change people’s perceptions of you. GIFFORD: Well when people are struggling to put food on their table nobody wants to hear about a $400 hair cut. KOTB: No they don’t, they definitely don’t.
