Marilyn Manson ‘Obsessed’ With ‘Eastbound And Down,’ Director Says

Photograph in Interview magazine shows Manson dressed as character Kenny Powers. By Jocelyn Vena Marilyn Manson as Kenny Powers for Interview magazine Photo: Interview Magazine Marilyn Manson has made a career out of creating creepy music, so it might come as a surprise to many that he has a funny side and is in fact a huge fan of the HBO series “Eastbound and Down,” starring Danny McBride as Kenny Powers. Interview magazine spoke to the director of the hilarious series and learned about Manson’s obsession with the show. “Yeah, Marilyn Manson, he’s f—ing obsessed with the show,” David Gordon Green explained. “He goes so far as to dress up like Kenny.” “I think David’s actually frightened for Danny,” said director Adam Bhala Lough, who is working with Manson on the flick “Splatter Sisters,” due out next year. “Because Manson wants to kidnap Danny on some King of Comedy sh–. Danny should be scared. “Whenever I see Manson, he’s repeating entire chunks of dialogue and dressed like Kenny,” Lough continued. “He just walks around dressed like this and f—s with people on the street. If a waiter or valet tells him, ‘Have a nice day,’ he’ll respond, ‘Don’t tell me what to do.’ Stuff like that. He’s even dressed like this when I’m at his house watching B

VMA Host Chelsea Handler Gets Wacky Advice From Aziz Ansari

2010 MTV Movie Awards host advises Handler to “do drugs” in preparation for Sunday night’s gig. By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Maybe by now Aziz Ansari has recovered from the spoof-creating, joke-spewing, celebrity-razzing intensity of hosting the MTV Movie Awards in June. He’s had time to process his moments sharing the screen with Justin Bieber and the “Twilight” kids. In short, he’s a veteran, and as he looks forward to the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 12), the comedian has one piece of advice for host Chelsea Handler: Do drugs! “You know, I just did a lot of cocaine in the weeks leading up to it, just to keep my energy up so I could stay up and write material,” he joked during an interview with MTV News. “It’s a lot of work.” Of course, he can laugh about his preparation now, but a couple of months ago, Aziz was furiously prepping for the biggest gig of his life. “I’ve watched ‘Twilight’ a bunch. I’ve watched ‘Avatar’ 400 times,” he told us back in April. “I’ve been stalking Daniel Radcliffe.” OK, maybe Ansari is always joking. But then again, so is Chelsea Handler . Of Justin Bieber, she told us recently, “He’s a two-face is what he is. He acted like we were in a committed relationship, and then he was prancing around with Kim Kardashian on the beaches like they’re a couple.” So if Handler isn’t going to embark on a whirlwind romance with young Bieber in preparation for the VMAs, perhaps she might be wise to listen to what Aziz has to say. “I would just say, if you’re not using cocaine, start using it so you can really get your energy up and keep going and get stuff done because it’s a lot of work,” Ansari advised Handler. “But you’ll have a lot of fun and it’ll be a blast.” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday. Paris Hilton’s Drugs And Driving Woes: A Timeline

A history of the heiress’ drug-related driving incidents. By Mawuse Ziegbe Paris Hilton Photo: Getty Images Paris Hilton is known for her jet-set lifestyle but things tend to go south when the heiress decides to travel by car. On Friday, Hilton was arrested in Las Vegas for possession of cocaine after police pulled over the SUV she was riding in. The socialite’s beau was apparently behind the wheel but Hilton was taken into custody after the illegal substance fell out of her purse. The Vegas bust is not the first time Hilton has run into trouble with drugs while driving. Here’s a timeline of her substance-related issues behind the wheel:

‘The Expendables’ Arsenal: A Weapon-By-Weapon Guide

Weapons supervisor Kent Johnson leads us through the biggest, baddest arms from the action hit. By Adam Rosenberg Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone in “The Expendables” Photo: Millennium Films Sylvester Stallone proved that his action star still burns brightly with the box-office-winning performance of “The Expendables,” which he wrote, directed and starred in. The veteran of action classics like “First Blood” and “Demolition Man” ceded some screen time in this latest outing to action stars of yesterday and today, particularly the core “Expendables” team of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Randy Couture. As impressive as that lineup is, the collected firepower of the group is what makes them really scary. Just try to identify some of those guns and blades in the heat of combat — it’s impossible. So MTV News got on the phone with Kent Johnson, property master and weapons supervisor for “The Expendables,” to get the inside scoop on who used what and why. For those who haven’t seen the movie, spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned. Handguns and Revolvers Stallone actually makes use of three handguns in the movie: a pair of semi-automatic pistols and a more traditional six-shooter, the sort that you’d see in a Western — only far more dangerous-looking. Johnson identified the pistols as custom-made Kimber Gold Combat IIs. “It’s a .45 [caliber],” Johnson said. “Kimber put them together for us. Sly wanted something a little bit different, a little more unique, a little more of an individual style, so we were able to make the body of the gun a little darker with black grips and little chrome pieces on it. Just very subtle, to make it more personal.” As anyone who’s seen the movie knows, Stallone fires those twin pistols at a remarkable rate. According to Johnson, that’s perfectly realistic and all based on the skill of the shooter, who in this case is one of the most accomplished action stars of the past 30 years. “A gun will fire as quick as you let the gun work, because it’s a gas-activated gun — meaning the gas in the chamber causes the recoil — which causes everything to work in the gun and the next shell coming up. So as fast as you could possibly pull the trigger is how fast that gun will.” Compare that to Sly’s revolver, which is an “1873 six-shooter with a 3-inch barrel” seen in the first and last scenes of the movie. “It’s a single-action gun, which means it won’t cock, it won’t fire like [the Kimbers], where you just pull the trigger and it’ll go bang, click, bang, click. With a single-action, you have to pull the hammer back,” Johnson explained. “[Stallone] was using it like the old Western style, like a fanner-type gun. What it is, is you have your finger on the trigger pulled at all times, and you fire and rotate, fire and rotate, by pulling the hammer back on the gun [and then letting it go], which is what a lot of quick-draw and fast-draw artists [do].” Shotguns and Rifles As cool as Sly’s paired pistols are, the undisputed star weapon of the movie is Hale Caesar’s (Terry Crews) automatic shotgun, an “MPS AA-12 Sledgehammer.” The weapon itself is a beastly thing, capable of laying down rapid-fire shotgun blasts. What makes it a force to be reckoned with in “The Expendables” however is the ammo that Caesar fills it with, which he describes in great detail during one particular scene. Said Johnson: “It has fins and it explodes before it hits the target. … It’s like a little missile, a little ground-to-air missile. You could load a shotgun shell with a solid pellet, you could load it with birdshot, you could load it with buckshot, you could load it with all different things. The way we did it [in ‘The Expendables’] was, basically, [we built it] to take down buildings, and it does. In real life, this shotgun would do pretty close to what you see on the screen.” Even more frightening is the idea that such a destructive bit of firepower exists. It does, Johnson said — sort of. “There’s something like that that does exist, yeah. We basically made up our own shell, but we copied one that was a prototype that is in development for the military.” A range of assault rifles are also on display in the movie, though the climactic battle is highlighted by two in particular. First, you have the bad guys, led by David Zayas’ General Garza. “All of Garza’s military guys we had [equipped] with AK-47s,” Johnson revealed. “Which is the right gun, [because], basically, they work all the time. So the AK-47, which is the old traditional standard workhorse, versus our boys with their modern weaponry.” In the case of the Expendables, “modern weaponry” is one tactical assault rifle in particular: the Noveske N4. “In the real world, it’s high-tactical, more in Europe than the States. It’s a high-caliber, it’s a very uniquely balanced weapon, a close-quarters weapon. It’s short and has a lot of firepower,” Johnson said. As with most of the other weapons on display in the movie, the N4 was Stallone’s pick. “He liked the look; it works off of rail systems, so we were able to put smaller but better sights on it, we were able to put better scopes on it. Visually, it was just a better, more futuristic-but-contemporary look without getting into silver [plating] or other crazy things, it’s just a real kick-ass weapon.” The Sharpened Blade Not all of the weapons in “The Expendables” go boom. Some slice through the air with nary a sound. Dolph Lundgren’s Gunner Jensen and Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas both make notable use of bladed weapons. “[Lundgren’s] Bowie knife … that was a Gil Hibbons. That’s the knife that Gunner gives Christmas [at the beginning of the movie]. “Gil Hibbons made a custom knife for us, for Sly. He and Sly have worked throughout the years together,” Johnson continued. “It was a white-bone handle and had the Expendables logo, the same logo that was on the motorcycles. It’s a traditional Bowie knife, but he custom-made it for us for the movie. The design was Gil’s, but he [used] some subtleties in the handle, very small little subtle things to make it a unique piece.” Then there’s Statham’s Christmas, who excels at killing silently from a distance with his throwing knives. “That was director’s choice on the [throwing] knives to have a little ring at the top so [Statham] could flip them and do different things,” Johnson explained. “We worked in different ways on making [Statham’s draw look right]. We went from a shoulder draw to a hip draw to kind of like a gun draw almost. That’s pretty much what we ended up with, where we had the three knives on each side of his hips. “That was the director’s idea in working with Jason, what made him feel comfortable and made him feel like he could be as quick as anybody with a gun with that knife. You’ve got to be able to get that knife and then be able to get the second one and the third one. He always carried at least six knives with him at all times when he was in his combat gear.” Finding the Right Weapons for the Job With all the killing force detailed above, the obvious question is: Where does it all come from? Johnson, being the man who makes it all happen, has the answer. “There’s different prop rental houses and different weapon rental people. I’ll work with the director and what his vision is for the movie, and basically I’ll go out and bring him an assortment of guns. Sly’s even gone to the gun room, multiple times, where he wanted to look at things,” Johnson said. He’s worked on Stallone projects since 1989’s “Tango & Cash,” and on “Big Trouble in Little China,” “Death Wish II,” “The Final Countdown” and others before that. “There’s one shop that I work with extensively called Independent Studio Service. They’re in Sun Valley, California, and they have the biggest weaponry [selection] probably in the world for the movie business,” he said. The guns themselves are the other key to the puzzle. These are all actual weapons that have been converted for prop use, though in most cases converting them back to live weapons is possible. Some of them still are live weapons; they’re simply loaded with blanks. “A gun with blank ammo, all you’re doing is making the gun think it’s firing a bullet,” Johnson explained. “They’re all real guns, they all have been modified to shoot blanks. Sly’s 3-inch 1873 six-shooter that he had in the small of his back, you could put live rounds in that gun and fire that gun because it’s a non-plugged gun. Non-plugged meaning, when you fire a semi-automatic or a full automatic, you actually plug the barrel of the gun and control the amount of gas that stays there to make the gun think that it’s shooting a live round out. “So you’re fooling the gun. All of these guns that are converted for studio use can be converted back to live fire.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Expendables.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Justin Bieber On VMA Promo: ‘I Like Girls Chasing Me’

‘I’m kind of like the Beatles running, and there’s girls chasing after me,’ he tells MTV News of ‘Hard Day’s Night’-inspired promo. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Michael Loccisano/ Getty Images Justin Bieber is up for a Best New Artist VMA at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , and in an upcoming promo for the September 12 show, the Biebs is tailed by his rabid female fans. “I’m kind of like the Beatles running, and there’s girls chasing after me,” he told MTV News of the “Hard Day’s Night”-style teaser. Given that girls chasing him is a standard day on the job for Bieber, he admitted that faking it wasn’t all that hard to do. “Everything’s been going pretty smooth,” he said. “I like girls chasing me, so it’s good.” This isn’t Bieber’s first time in an MTV awards-show promo: He very hysterically appeared in a Movie Awards teaser earlier this year with host Aziz Ansari and “Hurt Locker” star Jeremy Renner. While the shoots were equally fun, the tone of this promo is a bit different. “Aziz was really fun to work with,” he said of the Movie Awards promo. “It was really funny, and this is kind of more serious.” When Justin looks back on past VMAs, one of his fellow nominees stands out as a highlight. “All-time favorite moments of the VMAs? Probably when Eminem performed,” he said. “I’m just a big Eminem fan, and I remember turning on the VMAs and seeing Eminem perform.” Who would he like to see take the stage this year? “I’d love to see Beyonc

Lil Wayne, Paris Hilton, T.I. Provide Pre-Jail Playbook For Lindsay Lohan

Weezy cranked out videos, Hilton attended the MTV Movie Awards, and T.I. filmed a reality show. By Gil Kaufman Lil Wayne in court on March 8, 2010 in New York City Photo: Louis Lanzano/ AP Images There’s a reckoning that needs to happen before you surrender to authorities for a jail term. Whether you’re a celebrity or an average Joe, affairs have to be put in order, plans need to be made, and goodbyes have to be said. But if you are a celebrity, there may also be a lot of business you have to complete before surrendering your freedom. And with Lindsay Lohan less than 24 hours away from reporting to a Los Angeles jail to serve a 90-day sentence for probation violations, it’s worth noting how other celebrity inmates spent their final hours before going in. Lohan is expected to serve only 23 days of her sentence , due to chronic overcrowding at jail facilities in Los Angeles, to be followed by a 90-day term in an inpatient rehab facility, meaning she is likely to be out of the star machinery full time until the fall. With only one major project on her docket at press time — the Linda Lovelace biopic “Inferno” — unlike other celebs, Lohan isn’t leaving behind a lot of unfinished business. In contrast, before he began serving a one-year term in March on a gun charge, rapper Lil Wayne was a dervish of activity, filming seven music videos in one day , hitting the studio to lay down tracks that might show up on an upcoming EP , hopping onstage with Young Jeezy, Nicki Minaj and Drake at Madison Square Garden and attending various parties. Before going in for his one-year bid on gun charges, T.I. spent his time filming the MTV show “Road to Redemption,” on which he attempted to put some wayward souls on the straight-and-narrow, and logging time at more than 260 public appearances talking to youth groups, churches and schoolkids. He also joined Young Jeezy and Ludacris onstage at a peacemaking show in Atlanta and spoke out against gun violence . Gucci Mane also spent time in the lab just before he went away for a year on probation-violation charges, finishing up work on The State vs. Radric Davis. Then there was Paris Hilton, who did what she always does the night before she was locked up as a result of a parole violation for DUI arrest: She partied. The golden-haired heiress walked the red carpet at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards , bucking those who expected her to shamefully slink to jail by spending her last hours of freedom basking in the limelight. “I decided to do something nice before I went off,” she told MTV News of her 23-day jail sentence at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California, the same jail that will hold Lohan. While Hilton was released after five days for medical reasons, the judge summoned her to reappear in court and ordered that she be sent back to jail to serve her full sentence. It was mostly business as usual for Khlo

Prosecutors Throw the Book at Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan’s day of reckoning has arrived, and it’s not looking good as far as her attempts to evade jail for skipping mandatory alcohol education classes. She has now made good on the classes, but that wasn’t true in May, when she bailed on her last hearing and ended up free on bail wearing a SCRAM device. Whether she remains free rests with Judge Marsha Revel. Court proceedings began with a victory for the troubled star. Revel ruled out the matter of the SCRAM device going off after the MTV Movie Awards June 7. The hearing is now exclusively about whether Lindsay Lohan violated probation by not attending enough alcohol ed classes at the time of the last hearing.

Lindsay Lohan Tested Negative For Alcohol, Lawyer Says

SCRAM bracelet alarm went off following the MTV Movie Awards, but Lohan reportedly had no alcohol in her system. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: Jeff Vespa/ WireImage A lawyer for Lindsay Lohan said the troubled actress did not have alcohol in her system when her SCRAM bracelet set off an alarm on June 7 at Katy Perry’s MTV Movie Awards afterparty. Attorney Shawn Chapman Holley told E! Online that a urine test taken shortly after the alert showed a negative result for alcohol. “They did a urinalysis through Medtox labs, and it was indicated conclusively that there was no alcohol in her system at that time,” an unnamed source with knowledge of the test results reportedly told the site. “She was ordered to go right in, and today just got report back and it was negative.” Lohan, 23, who is subject to weekly random drug testing and is not allowed to drink alcohol, remains free on $200,000 bail, a figure that was doubled during a court appearance on June 8 after the SCRAM incident. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office told People that they were not aware of the negative test result. It remains unclear what set off the device, but a DA’s office official previously said that the alert was “an alcohol-related violation.” Lohan’s mother, Dina, has suggested that someone spilled a drink on the device — which is worn on the ankle and calibrated to detect signs of alcohol through sweat — at the party. Holley denied that Lohan had tampered with the SCRAM bracelet. Lohan faces a probation violation hearing on July 6 and could get up to six months in jail if a judge determines that she hasn’t fully complied with the terms of her probation. Lohan has remained quiet about the SCRAM incident and has not spoken out publicly about her recent troubles, but according to Star magazine, she recently broke that silence in an exclusive interview. “Enough is enough,” she reportedly told the magazine. “People should just leave me alone and let me live.” Lohan took pains to deny reports that she fell off the wagon at Perry’s party. “I haven’t touched any alcohol or anything of the sort,” Lohan said. “The lies that get created [are] damaging to my career.” Do you think Lindsay Lohan will ever be able to rehabilitate her career?
