Taylor Swift, Taylor Lautner Aimed For Best Kiss Award In ‘Valentine’s Day,’ Director Says

Garry Marshall describes shooting the former couple’s Best Kiss-nominated smooch. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift in “Valentine’s Day” Photo: Warner Bros. “Valentine’s Day” director Garry Marshall says that Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner showed that they were willing to try anything while shooting the flick, and that eagerness may be what got the onetime couple a Best Kiss nomination at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards . “Taylor [Swift] was quite good in the movie and Taylor Lautner too,” he told MTV News about the kiss in the movie , which is out on DVD and Blu-Ray this Tuesday. “Taylor Swift is quite competitive. I said, ‘You know there’s a prize for best kiss? … So we might as well try for it.’ And Taylor Lautner kind of hid at the craft-service place. He didn’t want to get involved. Anyway, he went along with it. We did one in the movie, which was pretty good, but then we did a whole shot of a best kiss that was pretty good.” As for the Taylors’ romance last year , Marshall noted that on-set hookups are nothing new. “That happens with young people,” he said. “I usually always start with kissing or they worry about it the whole time. We did like five, six takes. And the first take was a little uncomfortable. By the sixth take, they were dating! Life happens like that.” Considering the fact that their parts were added to “Valentine’s Day” at the last minute, the duo’s willingness to dive into their work was a big bonus, the director said. “When they got there, there was nothing really written,” Marshall explained. “They weren’t in the original script, so we did a whole thing with them and worked with them. They did a good job. They’re both brave, they’ll try anything. He did high hurtles [to play a track star], which is not easy, and he insisted on doing his own stunts. I said, ‘If you get hurt, somebody from “Twilight” is gonna call me up, but I’m a gambler. We’ll probably only do this once.’ And he did it good. “They both have good star power,” added Marshall, who is working on the movie’s sequel, “New Year’s Eve,” due out December 9, 2011. “And they did get along for whatever the reason. It came out very well. I was very pleased.” Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards , airing Sunday, June 6 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV! Tom Cruise Talks Suri, Stunts And Scrabble On ‘Oprah’

‘I look at buildings and think, how could I climb it?,’ actor says of stunt work. By Eric Ditzian Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Photo: Harpo Maybe the key was that there was no couch this time. When Tom Cruise stopped by “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Friday (May 14), the Hollywood star and the talk show host each sat on beige chairs, and so there was no chance of repeating his infamous couch-jumping incident in 2005 — that indelible moment of pop culture history that had Oprah saying, “You’re gone!” and the rest of the world agreeing with her. Or perhaps they’d already moved on, seeing as how the two had already rehashed the wacky episode during a 2008 interview at Cruise’s Telluride home. In any event, their talk on Wednesday focused on Cruise’s career, his wife, Katie Holmes, and how the couple raises their children in the midst of constant media and paparazzi attention. “We don’t make it a problem,” Cruise — who is one of the presenters at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards next month — said. “We don’t get nervous about it. You get used to it after so long, and Kate is a very relaxed person, and you just deal with it.” Addressing how his 4-year-old daughter Suri has become a constant presence in tabloid magazines and recognized for her burgeoning fashion sense, he said, “Whatever she wants to wear, she wears it. I’m not going to tell her different. She’s got great taste, too. She tells me what to wear.” When Cruise and Holmes are not a film set, they make sure to spend their evenings together at home with their families. “Saturday night we have dinner, and then it’s games,” he said. “We play Quick Scrabble, and then it’s usually movie night. We spend the whole night figuring out what movies we want to see.” Usually they watch new releases, but every so often his kids request to see one of their dad’s old flicks. Cruise’s upcoming movie is “Knight and Day,” an action-comedy co-starring Cameron Diaz. Cruise did almost all his own stunts. “I’m always thinking of different stunts,” he said. “I look at buildings and think, how could I climb it? How could I jump out? I was working on this … and I said, ‘Look, we’ve got to do something where Cameron is on the bike and I get to flip her around and she shoots guns.’ I’m very careful about it when I do it — very studied, but I enjoy it. When I was a little kid, I used to go up on a roof and jump off the roof into the snow and do flips and stuff, and now I get to do it in movies.” Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards , airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV!

B.o.B Brings ‘Nothin’ On You’ To ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Bruno Mars joins Atlanta MC for the late-night show on Wednesday. By Jayson Rodriguez Photo: ABC B.o.B and Bruno Mars took their act to the late-night airwaves on Wednesday night, when the pair performed the rapper’s hit single “Nothin’ on You” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Backed by a band, with Mars on guitar , B.o.B led the set through his syrupy breakout smash dedicated to the pretty ladies. “Hands down, there will never be another one/ I been around and never seen another one,” the Atlanta MC rapped. ” ‘Cause your style I ain’t really got nothing on/ And you wild when you ain’t got nothing on.” Dressed down in jeans, a red jacket, a striped T-shirt and a paperboy cap, the bespectacled B.o.B was boisterous and energetic through his appearance, which also included an acoustic version of “Lovelier Than You,” from his recent chart-topping debut The Adventures of Bobby Ray. Sans Mars, B.o.B. closed out the show with “Lovelier Than You.” “Maybe one day, girl, I pray/ We can float off to space/ Now hold my hand, I’ll lead the way/ And I won’t let go or fall astray,” he sang on the melodic number, while strumming his guitar. ” ‘Cause ain’t no ifs, ands, buts or maybes/ You’re my baby, my lady/ And don’t you worry, baby, please.” Bobby Ray then kicked the accompanying rhyme: “Well, well, well, I say I’m dangerously, dangerously, dangerously in love/ ‘Cause I love her more than I love myself and it’s still that ain’t enough,” he rapped. “If this a dream, I don’t want to wake up/ We go together like the tub and the shower head above.” What did you think of B.o.B’s performance? ‘Avatar,’ ‘Paranormal Activity,’ ‘District 9’ Stars React To MTV Movie Award Nominations

‘I think these awards are totally cool, and to get two nominations is just a gas,’ says Stephen Lang of ‘Avatar.’ By Eric Ditzian, with additional reporting by Josh Horowitz and Josh Wigler Photo: 20th Century Fox The 2010 MTV Movie Awards nominations are in, pitting villains against villains, fights against fights and scared-as-hell moments against scared-as-hell moments. In other words, the show is shaping up to be completely freakin’ nuts. As the June 6 awards show approaches, we’ve been speaking to the nominees to get their reactions about the honors. “This is crazy news — I love it!” said Sharlto Copley of “District 9,” who garnered a nod in the brand-new category Scared-as S**t Performance. “I love the way they just make up the category names! That, to me, always made the MTV Movie Awards more interesting than any of the others. They were always my favorite.” A South African native, Copley has a long history of watching the show and made a point of thanking fans for giving him a chance to take part in the action. “I’m very surprised but very grateful to the MTV and ‘District 9’ fans that voted for me,” he said. “It really — the MTV Movie Awards were the kind of awards that I like, the only real award ceremony over the years in South Africa that I actually did watch whenever I could. It’s a real honor. It also actually shows that our film ended up in the pop culture.” Among his competition in the Scared-as S**t Performance category is Katie Featherston, the star of the ultra-low-budget smash hit “Paranormal Activity.” “I’m stoked!” she said of the nomination. “I have to say, years ago when we were filming the movie, I very secretly dreamt that either I or the movie would be nominated for an MTV Movie Award. But it was kind of embarrassing because those sorts of things seemed too far out, too big. So now, for it to be happening, it’s awesome. I can’t wait to go to the show.” “I have some stiff competition but I also have some awesome fans,” she added. “The fans are the reason the movie was even released. Because it was so grassroots and people were so invested it getting it out. And people feel like they know us, and to some extent they really do. They’re cool people who helped us out and I think will continue to help us.” “Avatar” co-star Stephen Lang was so pumped about his two nominations — for Best Villain and Best Fight — that he called us up from Bulgaria, where he’s currently on location for a movie shoot. “I think these awards are totally cool, and to get two nominations is just a gas. ‘Avatar’ is such a populist film and these awards are something that everyone votes on,” he said, going on to reference the film’s somewhat disappointing performance at the Oscars. “The Academy is the Academy and they have their ways. If everyone who saw ‘Avatar’ casts a vote for ‘Avatar,’ we should do fine. Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards , airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV! ‘Harry Potter’ Star Tom Felton Calls Movie Awards Nod ‘A Massive Honor’

‘I’d love to see some awards being handed out to ‘Harry Potter’ stars,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian Tom Felton Photo: Steven Lawton/ FilmMagic Last summer, at the New York premiere for “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,” Tom Felton — the Brit actor behind platinum-blond baddie Draco Malfoy — walked us through the key characteristics of a great onscreen villain . “Cold eyes, I’ve been told. A pretty pasty face,” he said. “I think to be evil you need an iconic look. Like a James Bond villain, with the scar or a cat.” The guy certainly knows what he’s talking about. On Wednesday morning (May 12), Felton was nominated for Best Villain at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards . Back in South London while finishing up the shoot for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” Felton gave MTV News a call to talk about his nomination and take stock of the competition. “It’s a massive honor,” he said. “Especially given that it’s a fan vote. That makes it quite touching. And it’s classic for me, because for almost a decade, kids have been running onto set and hugging Daniel [Radcliffe] and shaking Emma [Watson]’s hand. I try and be as polite as I can, and I never seem to get anywhere with them. Finally, I’m in a category that celebrates that fact!” Come the June 6 awards show, Felton will face off in the Best Villain category against Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds”), Helena Bonham Carter (“Alice in Wonderland”), Ken Jeong (“The Hangover”) and Stephen Lang (“Avatar”). Obviously, the key question is: Which of these nefarious characters would win in a fight? Lang’s scar-faced, alien-slaying boss in “Avatar” might prove to be a bit of a challenge for the supernatural-assisted Draco, but Felton isn’t too worried. “If he had one of those big suits on he had on at the end, I’m not sure I’d stand a chance,” he said, before deciding, “But I have got the wand always, and the broomstick is pretty nimble.” The wand is exactly what Draco would need against Waltz’s cold-blooded, Jew-hunting Nazi — a performance Felton dubbed “the most spine-chilling of the year.” “He may talk a good talk, but against a decent spell or two, I might be able to take him,” Felton laughed. And then there’s Helena Bonham Carter, his “Harry Potter” co-star and now his MTV Movie Awards adversary. “Never my competition — she’s my idol,” Felton said. “I’ve learned more off her than anyone else.” Sure you don’t want to talk a little smack? “Of course! I’m putting a friendly face on it, but on the night, it’s all game,” Felton said. “Each dog for his own.” Lastly, there is Jeong’s naked, tire-iron-swinging mob boss. Can a wizard take him down? And would Draco ever strip it all off to prove he’s the best villain on the big screen? Turns out, that almost happened during “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” “In the fourth film, I got turned into a ferret,” he said. “In the original script, it says that in the transition back from ferret to human, I was going to be naked, and I was going to have to run through the courtyard with about 60 extras and 50 film crew and run out with my cheeks on show. For some reason, they pulled that at the last minute. I don’t know why. Maybe they thought it was too explicit for young viewers. Maybe something about not having a wide-angle lens!” Well played, sir. Any final words — a get-out-the-vote message for fans? “After 10 years, to still be in the public’s hearts, it really means a lot,” he said. “I can speak for Daniel and Emma and the rest of the cast on that one. I’d love to see some awards being handed out to ‘Harry Potter’ stars on the night.” Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards , airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV! ‘Twilight Saga: New Moon’ Dominates MTV Movie Awards Nominations

Film’s five nods were only topped by ‘The Hangover.’ By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” Photo: Summit Entertainment Well, “Twilight” fans, you’ve done it again. Thanks to Twilighters’ undying love (and constant voting), “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” has five nominations at this year’s MTV Movie Awards : Best Movie, Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart), Best Male Performance (Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner), Best Kiss (Stewart and Pattinson) and Global Superstar (a new category this year for which Stewart, Pattinson and Lautner are all nominated). “New Moon” came in just behind “The Hangover,” which scored six nods. In the coveted Best Kiss category, Stewart and Pattinson will defend their title against some familiar and interesting competition. They’ll face Lautner, who is nominated for his kiss with Taylor Swift in “Valentine’s Day,” and Stewart will compete against herself for her kiss with Dakota Fanning in “The Runaways” (other kissing couples include Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds for “The Proposal” and Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, for “Avatar”). Fitting with the Team Edward vs. Team Jacob rivalry, Pattinson and Lautner will also go head-to-head in the Best Male Performance category (with Channing Tatum in “Dear John,” Daniel Radcliffe in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and Zac Efron in “17 Again” rounding out the rest of the nominees in that category). Only time will tell if box-office juggernaut “Avatar” or comedic king “The Hangover” have equally obsessive fanbases as the Twilighters. But if last year’s seven nominations and five wins are any indication, fans of the scream-inducing franchise will likely have several reasons to celebrate come June.
