After Earth Release Date Moved Forward One Week

After Earth will now premiere on May 31, one week earlier than originally scheduled. The new release date will give M. Night Shyamalan’s new sci-fi thriller an extra week in theaters before it has to compete with Man of Steel , which comes out on June 14. Real life father-and-son Will Smith and Jaden Smith take the screen together, playing Cypher and Kitai, a father and son who return to Earth after humans abandoned it 1000 years prior. When their ship crashes and Cypher is injured, it is up to Kitai to traverse the dangerous planet, filled with newly-evolved creatures, and send a distress signal home.

Weird Science Remake in the Works: 21 Jump Street Writer to Pen Script

Good news, John Hughes fans!  (alt: Bad news, John Hughes fans! ) Weird Science is joining the ranks of everything else you’ve ever loved: it’s getting a remake! Universal has hired Michael Bacall, who turned what could have been an awful adaptation of  21 Jump Street into a huge comedy hit. So there is some hope yet. The original film, released in 1985, starred Anthony Michael Hall, Kelly LeBrock, Ilan Mitchell-Smith, and Robert Downey, Jr. ( Iron Man 3 ). It centers on a pair of nerdy teens who create a real woman using their computer. The premise is a tad outdated and 80’s, seeing as how everyone has a computer nowadays and understands fully that they can’t zap a lady into existence. …Believe me, I’ve tried. But Bacall can surely find a fresh spin on this classic. Whether you’re excited or mortified by the idea of redoing John Hughes, the  Weird Science remake might actually be good.

Kristen Stewart: Sex Scenes in On the Road "Necessary, Not Gratuitous"

Kristen Stewart tells the Chicago Sun-Times that she was inspired to play “wild, sexy girl” Marylou in On The Road , despite pushing her own boundaries. The actress says her sex scenes were “necessary,” that Marylou was surprisingly self-aware, and that in the end, “human beings are just animals.” “It’s about fiercely living and squeezing every single drop out of life and not denying any aspects of it,” she said, calling the sex scenes “non-gratuitous.” Stewart, 22, played against type in the 2012 adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s classic American novel, shedding any semblance of her inner Bella Swan. If you saw it … there was nothing PG-13 about Stewart’s role. “So much is clearly illustrated through her sexuality in her film,” Kristen Stewart said of her Marylou. “But there was nothing about it that seemed gratuitous.” “It all just seemed so necessary. There was simply no question that this would be a more sexual role. I didn’t want to just play the wild, sexy, girl.” Indeed, Marylou was more complex than meets the eye. “Yes, she’s daring, but she’s completely self-aware. She’s someone who can harness her fears in life although she’s not above emotions like jealousy.” Did you see the film? What did you think of Kristen Stewart’s role in it? The Hangover III Poster Parodies Harry Potter, Is Awesome

The first poster for The Hangover III has been unveiled – and it may look a tad familiar to some movie fans. In a hilarious nod to the final installment of the Harry Potter franchise, the photo uses the same tagline (“It All Ends”) and the same epic staredown between key characters. Although this time it’s Zach Galifianakis’ Alan squaring off against Ken Jeong’s Leslie Chow. Not exactly the same stakes as Harry versus Voldemort. Look for Alan to take center stage in the conclusion to this saga and look for The Hangover III to hit theaters on May 24.

Breaking Dawn: Part 2 DOMINATES Razzies

The not-so-critically-below Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 was the big “winner” at the 33rd annual Golden Raspberry Awards, a.k.a. the Razzies. The awards, given out the night before the 2013 Academy Awards , celebrate (or call out) Hollywood’s worst achievements of the cinematic year. Breaking Dawn Part 2 was recognized in seven categories, including worst picture. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew on that dubious honor!! Other Razzies racked up by the final Twilight Saga film: Worst sequel Bill Condon, worst director Kristen Stewart , worst actress Taylor Lautner , worst supporting actor Lautner and Mackenzie Foy, worst couple The entire cast, worst screen ensemble The film, of course, made $828 million at the box office and its big three stars are now world famous, so the Razzies can sort of suck it in that sense. Adam Sandler, who last year monopolized the Razzies with his “comedy” Jack & Jill , this year got only two awards for That’s My Boy . Progress, man! Rihanna, as worst supporting actress in Battleship , won by a landslide, while worst screenwriter Sandler beat the authors of Breaking Dawn by a single vote . Nothing like a true awards season nail-biter.
