The Expendables 2 once again took a machine gun to its box office competitors this weekend, taking in the most money for a second consecutive Friday and Saturday, this time by about $4 million over The Bourne Legacy . But it was a mostly quiet weekend in Hollywood, with few new films opening and Sylvester Stallone’s sequel winning the weekend with a haul of just $13.9 million. The major movie news instead centered around 2016: Obama’s America , a conservative documentary that cracked the top 10 overall, earning $6.2 million and enjoying an impressive per-theater average of over $5,700.

The Avengers 2 Release Date: Announced!

It has a director and a writer – and now it has a release date. With Joss Whedon confirmed to return for The Avengers 2 , Marvel has come out and announced that the sequel to one of the highest grossing films in history will hit theaters on May 1, 2015. Let the looooooong wait begin! There’s Iron Man 3 , for example. And Thor 2 . And Captain America 2 . There’s even Guardians of the Galaxy , which comes out on August 1, 2014. Stephanie Leigh Schlund Cast as Cashmere in Catching Fire

Another day, another Catching Fire role cast. Stephanie Leigh Schlund – a little known actress who appeared with Miley Cyrus in The Last Song – has signed on for the character of Cashmere, the District 1 Tribute serves as a the foil for Katniss in the Quarter Quell, teaming with her brother Gloss ( Alan Ritchson ), both of whom won previous Hunger Games. In consecutive years, no less. With director Francis Lawrence behind the camera, Catching Fire begins production this fall. It will create lines down the block of every theater in America starting on November 22, 2013.

It had spent three weeks at number-one. But The Bourne Legacy – with Jeremy Renner taking franchise lead over Matt Damon – ended that reign by hauling in $40.3 million on Friday and Saturday.

When it comes to the dating scene, Arnold Schwarzenegger won’t be back, ladies. He is back! Witnesses tell TMZ that the ex-Governor was all over some 25-year old female at Bagatelle in West Hollywood Friday night, grinding up on his acquaintance and even swapping some spit. Alas, Arnold and this new gal pal left the establishment separately. As for Schwarzenegger’s divorce from Maria Shriver? Shelve those reconciliation rumors . Insiders say the legal split is most definitely happening, perhaps as early as this week. Moreover, Schwarzenegger is actually the one now pushing for it, with Shriver allegedly leaning toward a reunion with her cheating ex. We have a feeling she’ll quickly get over that, however. All she needs to do is rewatch Arnold’s performance as Mr. Freeze to understand why.

Amanda Plummer has signed on for a role in Catching Fire . The veteran actress and former Golden Globe Award nominee will star in The Hunger Games sequel as Wiress, an eccentric Tribute who becomes an important fellow player/friend to Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss. A Broadway star, Plummer is likely best known to film fans for her role as “Honey Bunny” in Pulp Fiction . While Catching Fire fans continue to await movie news on who will play Finnick , other characters are being snatched up. Aside from Wiress, we know that Jena Malone will portray Johanna Mason and Philip Seymour Hoffman is a go for Plutarch Heavensbee. Catching Fire will be released on November 22, 2013, while two-part final installment of Mockingjay will be hit theaters in 2014 and 2015.

With mostly positive reviews and a very favorable CineScore from fans, it’s pretty clear that The Amazing Spider-Man will turn Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone into official Hollywood A-listers.

Charlie Sheen Cast in Machete Sequel

Would you vote Charlie Sheen for President of the United States? Or perhaps this is a more realistic question: Would you watch a movie in which Charlie Sheen plays the President of the United States? Director Robert Rodriguez has cast the controversial actor in that exact role for the upcoming Machete sequel, Machete Kills , posting a photo of himself and Sheen on Twitter last night along with the announcement: Machete Kills will be a follow-up to the 2010 action thriller and once again star Jessica Alba as Sartana Rivera, along with Danny Trejo as Machete Cortez. Michelle Rodriguez and Amber Heard will also play (HOT!) roles. No release date has been announced for the sequel, but production gets underway next month.
