Katy Perry Hopes ‘Part Of Me’ Is ‘An Inspiration’ To Fans

‘When they see it, they are like, ‘Oh, yeah, she goes through some sh– too,’ ‘ Perry tells MTV News at Hollywood premiere. By Christina Garibaldi Katy Perry at the “Part of Me” premiere Photo: HOLLYWOOD — Katy Perry couldn’t have picked a better way to bring her Teenage Dream era to a close. The pop star shut down Hollywood Boulevard for the premiere of her much-anticipated 3-D documentary “Part of Me.” She hit the pink carpet at the famed Grauman’s Chinese Theatre looking old Hollywood glam in a strapless red velvet dress complete with purple hair. After hitting the carpet — alongside Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen and Victoria Justice — Perry wowed thousands of her KatyCats, giving them a special concert. The 3-D film is a diary of the past year for Perry, who has experienced many highs but also some very personal lows, most notably her split from ex-husband Russell Brand . MTV News caught up with Perry on the pink carpet, where she said that even though this movie reveals many difficult moments, she didn’t necessarily find that it helped her cope with the situation. But she hopes it acts as an inspiration to her fans. “I wouldn’t say it’s so therapeutic, because the movie is so well-rounded with so many different things,” Perry said. “I guess some of it is just hopefully an inspiration for people. When they see it, they are like, ‘Oh, yeah, she goes through some sh– too. I can’t dodge life’s curve balls if Katy Perry can’t dodge life’s curve balls.’ ” Perry hit the stage by busting out of a giant popcorn tub wearing a film-reel bustier, which she paired with a red-and-white skirt. Perry re-created her California Dreams Tour, playing all her hit songs including “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and “Firework” before fans were treated to the world premiere of “Part of Me,” which hits theaters July 5. Nora Ephron Didn’t Feel Limited By Romantic Comedies

‘I’m not complaining about any box that I’m in, because I can write whatever I want,’ late writer/director tells MTV News in 2009. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Nora Ephron in 2009 Photo: No matter how it happens, when or where, it is always sad to hear of the passing of a celebrated, talented and respected public figure like Academy Award-nominated screenwriter, director and playwright Nora Ephron, who died of pneumonia at age 71 on Tuesday (June 26). Ephron is best known for writing and/or directing some of Hollywood’s most famous and successful romantic comedies like “When Harry Met Sally … ,” “Sleepless in Seattle” and “You’ve Got Mail.” Her final film as writer and director was 2009’s “Julie & Julia,” and during the promotion for that film, which starred Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, Ephron revealed to MTV News that although she was happy to be known for her romantic comedies, she also dabbled in a few politically charged subjects that had yet to be made into feature films. “You should see my closet, it’s full of political scripts,” Ephron revealed, adding that while she’d love to see one of her many political scripts turned into a film, she wasn’t holding out hope that Hollywood would let her take a turn from romantic comedies to political dramedies. “Forget it,” Ephron said of wanting to direct one of her political scripts. “I mean yes, but the [movies] you get made are not necessarily all the things you write.” When asked if she felt at all limited by being most well-known for her expertise in the rom-com genre, Ephron said she felt nothing but gratitude for how much her successful romantic comedies have done in providing her with the freedom to explore other unrelated subjects. “I’m not complaining about any box that I’m in, because I can write whatever I want,” Ephron said with sincerity. “Fortunately, I’m not just in the movie business, so I don’t feel that the only way I can express myself is by the movies I make.” Share your condolences for Ephron’s family and friends in the comments below. Channing Tatum as Superman, Will Arnett as Batman… in LEGO Movie

Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller made names for themselves with their feature debut, the animated Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs , before moving on to direct Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in the live-action hit 21 Jump Street . As they work up their next film — WB’s live-action/CG blend LEGO adaptation, apparently titled Lego: The Piece of Resistance , based on the plastic toy building blocks — the duo are casting a few familiar superheroes to appear in the pic. Variety reports that Lord and Miller have tapped Will Arnett to voice LEGO Batman in the adventure, with the hope that Tatum can find room in his schedule to come on as LEGO Superman. They’d be joining Parks and Recreation ‘s Chris Pratt , who leads the pic after recent turns in Moneyball , What’s Your Number , and The Five-Year Engagement . Pratt and Tatum also co-star in the indie high school reunion drama Ten Year , which is slated for release through Anchor Bay, while Tatum of course starred in 21 Jump Street for Lord and Miller, with hilarious results. The synopsis, via Variety: “Pratt will play Emmet, an ordinary, law-abiding, Lego mini-figure who is mistaken for the most extraordinary MasterBuilder. He’s drafted into a fellowship of strangers on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together.” Of course, there’s no indication of just how big the parts of LEGO Batman and Superman will be in the film, but the cheeky, geeky move should get DC/LEGO fans excited nonetheless. The parts are all falling into place… [ Variety ]

Magic Mike Headed to Broadway?

Director Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike debuted over the weekend , closing out the Los Angeles Film Festival. And while the Warner Bros film opens in theaters this Friday, fans may have the opportunity to see it live in the flesh as it were in the future. Starring Channing Tatum, the story loosely revolves around the actor’s eight month stint dancing at male strip clubs in Tampa, Florida. It is a time during which Tatum admits to witnessing a much more dark and depressing version of events than what producing partner/writer Reid Carolin transposes to the script. He meets an eager college drop out, played by Alex Pettyfer and takes him under his wing. Carolin tipped off to USA Today that there are plans to strut Magic Mike on Broadway in the near future. “”We are working on it as a Broadway show, which would be a different story,” said Carolin, adding, “More of a romp, more of a fun night out at a club with a story. I’m almost more excited about that than the movie because I think it’s the perfect thing for women to go see on Broadway, to be participants in the show.” And Pettyfer may have a chance to show more skin as well if and when the show hits the great white way. He said he “absolutely” would do the show. “”I think we should all do the opening night,” he said.

In White Folks News: On Screen Cutty Buddies Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis Dodge The Cameras On Their Dinner Date

Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis Spotted On Dinner Date Too bad Demi isn’t gettin’ her groove back like we thought , because her ex boy-toy hubby seems to be doing just fine in the post-divorce cakes department. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are keeping fans guessing about whether they are just friends or something more after being spotted around town together numerous times in the past few months. The pair, who both starred on Fox hit “That ’70s Show,” were seen zooming around Hollywood on Kutcher’s motorcycle earlier this week. And, according to the Daily Mail, Kunis’ car is sometimes spotted outside the actor’s home. Kunis, 28, has directly addressed the rumors since they began to surface this past April. “It’s absurd,” she told Extra of reports that the two were dating. “A friend is a friend.” But People magazine reports that the pair’s insistence that they’re not a couple is merely an attempt to “be discreet.” “They seem to spend every free second together,” a source points out to the magazine. Another source tells Us Weekly, “They’re not exclusive, but they are hanging out and seeing where it’s going.” In addition to motorcycle rides, the pair have also been spotted out shopping for furniture, having one-on-one dinners, and even heading on a three-day road trip together. “They’ve been hot for each other for years,” another source tells Us Weekly. “It stretches back to when they were friends on their show!” Check the gallery for more pics of Mila and Aston ducking the paparazzi on their night out.
