Spy series continues without leading man Matt Damon, and from the looks of the most recent trailer, it might actually pull it off. By Kevin P. Sullivan Jeremy Renner in “Bourne Legacy” Photo: Universal Pictures Of all the summer’s potential blockbusters, ” The Bourne Legacy ,” the Matt Damon -less continuation of the spy series, has the most to prove. Series tend not to fare well once the star exits, but the latest trailer for “The Bourne Legacy” is making us believe that it could buck the trend. Here are our five key scenes from the new “Bourne Legacy” trailer. Weisz’s Role Revealed Until now, most of the promo material has focused squarely on Jeremy Renner ‘s Aaron Cross and how there was “never just one.” One of the first things this full trailer does is formally introduce us to Marta, the doctor Rachel Weisz plays in the film. (Her hand appeared briefly in the first trailer.) When Edward Norton’s Agent Byer decided to liquidate the operation, both Marta and Cross find themselves in harm’s way. That’s the set-up that eventually brings them together to go on the run. Connections to the Past Perhaps the most intriguing element of the new trailer besides how badass Renner is has to be the clear connections to the previous film, “The Bourne Ultimatum.” Both Corey Johnson, who plays the government crony, and Paddy Considine, who didn’t survive the events of “Ultimatum,” show up in the trailer. It appears that the events of “Ultimatum” and Bourne’s appearance in Manhattan spur the events of “Legacy.” Jason Bourne Again Speaking of Jason Bourne, there’s Matt Damon’s face right there in the trailer. The actor has made it clear that he himself won’t appear in the newest addition to the series he led through three films, but his headshot does briefly appear on a newscast in the trailer. Director Tony Gilroy told us during our Summer Movie Preview that Bourne’s presence would be felt in the early parts of the “Legacy.” “What happens in ‘Ultimatum’ is really the spark that’s blowing open the door to this movie because the Jason Bourne story is exploding out into the public,” he said. “Being impossible to conceal any further is causing problems for this much larger conspiracy. ‘Ultimatum’ plays in the background of the very beginning of this film.” Agent Aaron “Moto” Cross As with the teaser trailer, a good portion of the full trailer focuses on the chromosomal enhancements that have been made to Aaron Cross. He heals quickly, and he can grind a railing with a freakin’ motocross bike. Was one of the “inconsistencies” within Treadstone that the characters talk about in the trailer the inability to grind a railing with a freakin’ motocross bike? Matt Who? If this trailer does one thing particularly well, it silences all of Renner’s doubters. His action on display here is definitely on par with the kung-fu antics of Matt Damon. Whether he’s on the bike or sliding between buildings or emerging from freezing water with a full beard, Renner looks poised to take the reins in style. Be sure to see how Renner’s “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” co-star, Tom Cruise, fares when he goes up for two MTV Movie Awards, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance and Best Fight, this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET live on MTV. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello and Josh Horowitz Andy Samberg Photo: MTV News Now that Kristen Wiig has officially left “Saturday Night Live,” many fans are wondering what the deal is with Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis, who are both rumored to be leaving the show ahead of its fall season premiere. It seems that fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out. When MTV News caught up with Samberg during MTV Sneak Peek Week, where he sat down to chat about his new film, “That’s My Boy,” he explained that he’s got some time before he needs to give boss Lorne Michaels his two weeks’ notice. “You know, I’ve just been focusing on the movie and all this stuff,” he explained to MTV News. “I haven’t talked to Lorne about it yet. Something will get decided over the summer. We’ll see. No matter what, it’s been a dream come true working there for me.” “I don’t know yet. But it was a fun season,” he later added during his Sneak Peek chat. “It was a crazy finale. Mick Jagger and Arcade Fire and Foo Fighters. It’s open-ended at this time.” Samberg, who hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2009, sat down with MTV News ahead of this year’s show. ‘Truth’ will look at struggles of transgender people around the world. By Gil Kaufman Janet Jackson Photo: MTV News Janet Jackson has spent her career bouncing from TV to music and movies, but now the R&B legend is moving into the producing game. According to the The Advocate , Jackson has agreed to executive-produce a documentary called “Truth” about the lives of transgender people around the world. Not only is Jackson, 46, working behind-the-scenes on the movie, but she is expected to sit for some on-camera interviews as well. The movie will start filming this summer. In a statement announcing the film, Jackson said she agreed to sign on to help stop discrimination against the transgender community. “All people are very important to me. I’ve been fortunate to make friends and learn about very different lives,” Jackson said in a statement. ” ‘Truth’ is our small chance to ask that you try and understand someone who lives their life in a way that is a little bit different from yours, even though all of our hearts are the same. We want to stop the hate and find understanding.” Director Robert Jason, who previously directed the Style Network documentary “Style Exposed: Born Male, Living Female,” about four transgender New Yorkers, promised that Jackson will play a prominent part in the finished product. “Janet Jackson will take us on a visually innovative, cerebral journey through the turbulent lives of transgendered people of all ages around the world and their epic struggle for equality,” he said in a statement announcing the project. “This film will highlight landmark mainstream stories and provide a glimpse at others that will change the gender landscape of the world forever. Just as it is hard to believe that there ever was a time when different components of society were required to use separate drinking fountains, it is as incredible that one’s gender expression remains just such a target for discrimination.” Jackson’s involvement in the documentary comes on the heels of last month’s news that Against Me! singer Tom Gabel has come out as transgender and is now living as a woman, Laura Jane Grace. Gabel became the most high-profile major-label musician to undergo a gender transformation. Related Artists Janet Jackson
Lohan may not be a great actor, but she does have great implants, and when they are busting out of her shirt, transparent colored nipple, trying to be invisible, yet still visible, it is kinda hard to say she’s not a great actor, because this is all I need out of a performance from her….you know the rest of the movie with all the talking and storyline, just gets in the way of the important parts like her titty flash….. Someone needs to animate gif….fine I’ll do it you slackers….but that’s just cuz I want to see Lohan’s acting at its best in some low grade bullshit movie that will surely slaughter the memory of Liz Taylor….you know in motion….like a fake tit on a damaged actor flipbook… make animated gifs like this at MakeAGif I’m still a fan of Lohan and appreciate her struggles that aren’t real struggles, but more importantly, I’m ready for the comeback….the oscars. Model kicks off MTV News’ ‘BFFs’ with hilarious — and very unglamorous — memories from her Philly days. By Rya Backer Amber Rose gets down in the kitchen on “BFFs” Photo: MTV News I knew we had to go big to kick off our newest segment, “BFFs.” A companion of sorts to our popular “First Date,” in this series, I get to hang out with some of our favorite women in entertainment, spending time with them as I would with my actual close girlfriends. So after watching Amber Rose on “RapFix Live,” where she presented herself as strong, funny and candid, I knew she would be the perfect fit. Rose held nothing back with MTV News’ Sway Calloway during that interview a few months ago, and though her tears from a past heartbreak got quite a bit of coverage, one of the things I found most compelling about her was just how intensely love-struck she is once again. MTV News introduces you to Imagine Dragons and their catchy tune from the film, ‘It’s Time.’ By Kara Warner Imagine Dragons Photo: Paul Zimmerman/ Getty Images How perfectly engaging and intriguing is that “Perks of Being a Wallflower” trailer ? We’ve been thinking about it and re-watching it since its debut during our 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show, and the one thing that we can’t get out of our heads — in addition to all those great visuals and actors — is that catchy song playing in the background. The song is “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons . For those who have yet to discover this buzzworthy band from Las Vegas, get thee to downloading more of their infectious, lighthearted tunes. Since forming in Vegas in 2009, Imagine Dragons have had to work their way toward their recent success, a voyage that has certainly had its share of ups and downs along the way. “I remember one gig [where] we were playing a casino in Vegas, and it was a really small stage,” guitarist Wayne Sermon recalled during an interview with MTV News recently. “We played a four-hour set — we’d do those two to three times a week — and we were exhausted, and [frontman] Dan [Reynolds] passes out in the middle of the last song, falls on the drum set, the drums go everywhere, and it was horrible, but we finished the song.” “And all these drunk guys were like, ‘Wooo!’ ” Reynolds laughed. “But it didn’t hurt; I was so tired, it was sort of nice to have a little break.” The band has finally started to see the fruits of their labor, with “It’s Time” climbing the charts, the debut of their music video and plans to begin work on their first full-length EP. But they aren’t letting any of that go to their heads. “It’s crazy. We’ve been a band for three years, living on the road, eating bean burritos every day, and we’re still eating bean burritos every day, but it’s been incredible to see the support that we’ve gotten,” Reynolds said. “We really owe so much to our fans who, from the very beginning, have been sharing the music. And we live in a world where things can happen so quickly, and we’re glad we’ve had three years to really prepare. … We’ve been doing it for a little while, and it feels good … and right.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. We break down highlights from French DJ’s movie-themed set. By Ryan J. Downey Martin Solveig arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images “The Hunger Games” was one of the big winners Sunday night (June 3) at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards , where the juggernaut collected several Golden Popcorns against a musical backdrop culled from some of the most iconic film scores of all time. That nostalgia-inducing soundscape came courtesy of DJ Martin Solveig, who remixed themes from classic movies ranging from “Star Wars” to “Pulp Fiction.” The Black Keys, Fun. and Wiz Khalifa all brought the house down as musical guests at the MTV Movie Awards, held at the Gibson Ampitheatre in Universal City, California. The French electronic-music DJ and producer entertained the audience throughout the show, which was broadcast to viewers live as the show went in and out of commercial breaks. Solveig carefully curated a delicious mixture of some of the most memorable melodies from the movies that have shaped generations of popular culture with their stories, performances, tone and dialog. His set was also as much about the present as the past, perfectly summarized by the mix of the Doors and screamo singer-turned-Grammy-winning dubstep standard-bearer Skrillex. Miss a few tunes? We’ve got you covered. Solveig’s selections on Sunday included “Hello” (Martin Solveig featuring Dragonette), Calvin Harris’ “Feel So Close,” Skrillex and the Doors “Breakin’ a Sweat,” Kavinsky + Lovefoxx’s “Nightcall” (from the movie “Drive”), “Ready 2 Go (Hardwell Remix),” “Misirlou”(made famous all over again in “Pulp Fiction”), Martin Solveig & Dragonette feat. Idoling!!!’s “Big in Japan (Ziggy Stardust Remix),” various mixes of “The Night Out” and some of Daft Punk’s work from “Tron: Legacy.” And these were the tracks spinning off from the most legendary themes: “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Theme (Martin Solveig Remix)” : Clint Eastwood’s “Man With No Name” spaghetti Western trilogy (which concluded with 1966’s “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”) is the stuff of legend, most recently memorialized in Johnny Depp’s animated “Rango.” For many years, Metallica has opened each and every concert with composer Ennio Morricone’s “Ecstasy of Gold” from “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly,” with the crowd often singing the lyric-less melody in unison as a series of “whoa-oahs.” If the 83-year-old Italian composer was watching the Movie Awards, he heard his composition mixed up for the modern electro age. “Jaws Theme (Martin Solveig Remix)” : Who hasn’t tried to play the “Jaws” theme on a piano at some point? It’s so simple yet so brilliant, like “Chopsticks” for people who want to remember how terrified they were to go into the water. The music from future “Star Wars” composer John Williams certainly helped Steven Spielberg kick off the modern blockbuster featuring the scariest fish since Moby Dick (OK, technically, neither were fish); they re-teamed on several other films. “Imperial March (Martin Solveig Remix)” : “The Imperial March” has been synonymous with ominous evil, impending doom, villainous tyranny and light sabers that only come in the color red since the original “Star Wars” movie kicked off an enduring worldwide phenomenon in 1977. It’s impossible to hear this theme without picturing Darth Vader boarding the starship transporting Princess Leia, holding that guy up in the air by the throat and demanding to know various things. So cool! “Superman Theme (Martin Solveig Remix)” : Hey, what do you know! Another John Williams score. And another grandiose theme that’s synonymous with the film. The music instantly conjures the image of the late, great Christopher Reeve soaring through the skies of Metropolis as Superman. Whether battling Kryptonian super villains, trading barbs with Lex Luthor or romancing Lois Lane (let’s not mention that Richard Pryor entry), Supes was defined by this killer theme.
