Johnny Depp Honored With MTV Generation Award At Movie Awards

Before accepting the award, Depp joined the Black Keys onstage to perform ‘Gold on the Ceiling.’ By Terri Schwartz Johnny Depp Photo: Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Talk about a grand entrance. Aerosmith rock gods Steven Tyler and Joe Perry walked onto the MTV Movie Awards stage to congratulate a “truly revolutionary artist,” an actor who has become a rock star in his own right. Johnny Depp was the recipient of the MTV Generation Award , joining the prestigious ranks of Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood and Godzilla. Depp joined the Black Keys on stage to perform a rousing rendition of “Gold on the Ceiling” before going on to accept his award. “I’ve got to thank MTV for this. This is quite an amazing honor, truly. It’s like the Get-Out-Of-The-Business Award, ‘All right, you’ve done too much.’ Clearly, based on the clips, there’s nothing wrong with me,” Depp said when he received his Golden Popcorn. “I just thank you very much. And it’s an honor to be presented by these two legends, Steve and Joe, and these up and coming legends, [The Black Keys], so thank you very much.” This has been a big year for Depp. “21 Jump Street” was nominated for six MTV Movie Awards, including one for Depp himself. In addition, he reunited on the big screen with Tim Burton to create their passion project, “Dark Shadows.” But the Generation Award is less about Depp’s last year and more about his legacy. From when we first saw him die brutally in “A Nightmare on Elm Street” to when he won us over as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean,” we’ve known he was a star worthy of our attention. Next year will be big for the three-time Golden Popcorn winner as well. We’re excited to see him transform onscreen yet again, but this time as sidekick Tonto in Gore Verbinski’s take on “The Lone Ranger.” And there’s always the planned fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie and inevitable reunion with Burton to look forward to in the future. The Side-Eye: Miss Ohio Says That Whore-er Movies Like “Pretty Woman” Depict Women In A Positive Light…

Look ma, no brains! Miss Ohio Audry Bolte Says “Pretty Woman” Paints Women In Positive Light During Sunday evening’s Miss USA contest on NBC, top five finalist Miss Ohio Audrey Bolte told the judges that Julia Roberts’ character in the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman is an example of a positive portrayal of women in film. Judge Marilu Henner asked Bolte: “Do you think women are depicted in movies and on television in an accurate and positive way? And please give us an example.” Bolte responded: I think it depends on the movie. I think there are some movies that depict women in a very positive role, and then some movies that put them in a little bit more of negative role. But by the end of the movie, they show that woman power that I know we all have. Such as movie Pretty Woman. We had a wonderful, beautiful woman, Julia Roberts, and she was having a rough time, but, you know what, she came out on top and she didn’t let anybody stand in her path. *sigh* Here sweetheart, have a seat and relax. ‘Hunger Games’ Stars Try To Cast Finnick Odair

MTV Movie Award winners Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks and Alexander Ludwig say whoever is cast has to have ‘a lot of charisma.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Josh Hutcherson arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Robert Pattinson won’t be playing him. Neither will Taylor Kitsch . But there are still plenty of other actors, like Armie Hammer , who could possibly fill the role of dreamy District 4 tribute Finnick Odair in “Catching Fire.” Josh Hutcherson certainly couldn’t pick when MTV News caught up with him after the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. “I mean, honestly, I have no idea. I definitely need to re-read the second book,” he said. “I haven’t read it since I first read them, before the first one. So I think I kind of need to read it again to get a better grasp.” His fellow MTV Movie Award winner for Best Fight , Alexander Ludwig, had one person he’d love to see tackle the charming and sexy Finnick. “Whenever I read the books, I always thought Ryan Reynolds would be a great Finnick.” he said. “Ryan Reynolds is just how I pictured.” When asked what characteristics Reynolds or any actor must possess to play the part, he broke it down for us. “I think he’s just got a charisma about him. Whenever I read the books, I was like ‘If I don’t get a [role] in the first one, [then I’d be interested].’ Finnick had always been something I was interested in as a character because he reminds me a little of myself.” “He’s got a really good charisma about him,” he added. “He’s also got that bit of an egotistical edge to him which isn’t like me but I love it as character. It’s hilarious and he’s a really strong character too and he’s a really big part of the second book. He’s the most anticipated character in my mind as well. I can’t wait to see who they cast for him.” Best On-Screen Transformation winner and fellow “HG” star Elizabeth Banks was pretty stumped to have to play casting director for the part. “I don’t [know], honestly,” she said. “Everybody that’s ever been mentioned seems fantastic. I’m sure they’ll find the right fit. I think the cast has come together in such an amazing way so far and I know that their goal is to keep adding the best people and the people that its gonna be great.” So, what does she hope Finn will be like? “You know, just charisma, just a lot of charisma,” she said. “And he’s a looker.” Hutcherson added, “Physically strong, I think that’s a big important thing. I think somebody who’s kind of similar to Peeta in the sense that he knows sort of how to work the situation a little bit. I think the physicality would be really important for Finnick because he’s such an imposing character, for sure.” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Kristen Stewart Makes Out with Self at MTV Movie Awards

Kristen Stewart. Who knew she had it in her?!? At last night’s MTV Movie Awards , the Twilight Saga star won Best Kiss along with co-star and real-life boyfriend Robert Pattinson. It was the latter’s third consecutive time taking home this trophy, only in this case Pattinson and Stewart did not make out, nor did Rob kiss Taylor Lautner , because he was not in attendance. So, what was a lonely Stewart to do on stage? Actually be funny! She called out for Chris Hemsworth as a make-out partner… then Charlize Theron… and finally Lautner (“Taylor, old friend. Help an old friend. Come on!”). When no one showed up, Kristen was forced to rely on her own lips. Watch the video now and see what we mean: Kristen Stewart Wins Best Kiss

Audrey Bolte, Miss USA Runner-Up, Cites Pretty Woman as "Accurate, Positive" Portrayal of Women

Miss USA 2012 Olivia Culpo should thank Audrey Bolte. The 23-year-old Miss Ohio was the second runner-up at last night’s pageant – not a poor showing, but Bolte’s title hopes were likely undone by one answer. She was asked by judge Marilu Henner, “Do you think women are depicted in movies and TV in an accurate and positive way and please give us an example.” Miss Ohio’s amazing response: “I think it depends on the movie. I think there are some movies that depict women in a very positive role and some movies that put them in a little bit more of a negative role, but by the end of the movie they show that woman power that I know we all have.” “Such as the movie Pretty Woman .” “We had a wonderful, beautiful woman, Julia Roberts, and she was having a rough time. But you know what? She came out on top and she didn’t let anyone stay in her path.” Yeah. We sort of see Audrey’s point about the character’s perseverance and strength, but still … saying a hooker is a positive depiction of women on screen? Ouch. Roberts’ Vivian Ward was a likable woman, but she come out on top when a rich man hired her for sex for a week and then rescued her from a life of prostitution. Probably not what the judges were looking for.
