Channing Tatum Dishes On ‘G.I. Joe’ Sequel Pushback

‘I did my part and then all this stuff is going on,’ Tatum tells MTV News after Movie Awards. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Channing Tatum arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Steve Granitz/ WireImage UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Before Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey graced the 2012 MTV Movie Awards stage with their memorable presentation of the Best On-Screen Transformation award and utterly distracted us, MTV News caught up with Tatum on the red carpet to check in on an entirely different subject. We wanted to know the status of the recently rescheduled release of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” “I don’t know. Truly,” Tatum said when asked if the rumors we’d see more of him in the revamped sequel are true. “I haven’t seen the movie. I did my part and then all this stuff is going on, so they haven’t come to talk to me about anything. They talk about a lot of stuff; who knows if it’s the industry or the actual studio? You never know.” But everything is better with a little more of the “Magic Mike” star in it, right? “Sometimes? I don’t know,” Tatum said. “You have to have the exact right amount of Chan.” “Duh,” Tatum’s lovely wife, Jenna Dewan, answered for her husband. “I say yes.” So no matter our desire for more Tatum, the official studio line on the push-back is that Paramount wants to convert the film into 3-D. They made the move in hopes that adding three dimensions will translate to more impressive international box-office numbers. “We’re going to do a conscientious 3-D job, because we’ve seen how it can better box office internationally,” an unnamed studio exec recently said of the switch. “Jim Cameron did all of ‘Titanic’s’ 3-D in post — and look how well that movie turned out.” Other reports indicated that Tatum’s star is now shining too bright to kill his character off early on in the film, as was originally rumored and only partially confirmed by Duke himself. “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” is scheduled to open March 29, 2013. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. See what just happened at the 21st annual MTV Movie Awards ! ‘Perks Of Being A Wallflower’ Star A ‘Lucky Guy’ To Kiss Emma Watson

Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller and Watson debuted film’s first trailer during MTV Movie Awards. By Amy Wilkinson, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Logan Lerman arrives at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Emma Watson and Logan Lerman for Movie Awards Best Kiss in 2013? It could happen! The two actors, along with co-star Ezra Miller , were on hand at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show to introduce the first trailer for their coming-of-age film ” The Perks of Being a Wallflower ,” an adaptation of Stephen Chbosky’s 1999 novel published by MTV Books. The story centers around introverted Charlie (Lerman), who’s lured out of his shell by step-siblings Sam (Watson) and Patrick (Miller) and introduced to a world of sex, drugs and, of course, rock and roll. Charlie nurses an unrequited crush on newfound friend Sam throughout most of the narrative. And while the trailer only hinted at a few tender moments shared between the two characters, you better believe there will be some lip-locking to be had when the movie hits theaters September 14. And according to Lerman, those scenes weren’t too hard to handle. “It happened in front of a crew, and people were there, and we did it a few times. And that was it,” Lerman recalled of his cinematic smooch with Watson. “It’s kind of odd when you’re doing it for a movie. It’s kind of weird. She’s cool. It wasn’t as awkward as it could have been. It’s Emma Watson, so I’m a lucky guy.” Yet, Lerman couldn’t help but wonder what it would have been like had his impressions of the moment been less than savory. “What if I was complaining, though? ‘Oh, God. I had to kiss that girl!’ ” he joked. We have a feeling a number of actors would have been happy to take your place, Logan. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. WATCH: Charlie Sheen Crashes Adam Sandler Movie Awards Interview

It was an unofficial and unexpected passing of the ‘Anger Management’ torch between Sheen and Sandler backstage with MTV News. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Charlie Sheen and Adam Sandler backstage at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — All manner of Golden Popcorn trophies were passed around on the stage of the Gibson Amphitheatre at the MTV Movie Awards this year, but there were plenty of wins to be found behind the scene as well — such as the one between comedy titans Adam Sandler and Charlie Sheen. MTV News’ Josh Horowitz spoke with Sandler, Andy Samberg and Leighton Meester backstage at the Movie Awards and asked them all about their upcoming comedy “That’s My Boy.” The hard-R-rated comedy has been a hot topic in our circle all week long (we hosted an exclusive premiere of “That’s My Boy” during Sneak Peek Week, you’ll recall), and this was one of our first opportunities to speak with Sandler about the flick — but the Happy Madison founder left it to his younger co-star Samberg to summarize what fans can expect from the film. “Do you like raucous rock-and-roll humor that makes you whizz your pants with laughter? Then maybe you should see this movie,” the former “SNL” star advised. Speaking of raucous rock-and-roll humor, the “That’s My Boy” interview reached an abrupt conclusion when party boy Charlie Sheen , on hand to bestow Instant Cult Classic status upon found-footage party movie “Project X,” unexpectedly showed up to meet and greet his old friend, Sandler. “Charlie!” Sandler happily reacted. “Me and Charlie, baby! Good to see you!” Sheen, subdued but pleased, embraced his old pal and kept chatting with him as he passed by. “I gotta go get assigned to my seat, man,” he said. “Are you here all night?” While the two were speaking, Samberg couldn’t help but observe a secret connection between the reunited actors: Sheen is starring in an adaptation of “Anger Management,” Sandler’s 2003 comedy of the same name. “This is as exclusive as it gets, you guys,” Samberg laughed at the camera. ” ‘Anger Management’ franchise much?” When Sandler returned to the “That’s My Boy” interview, he laughingly brushed off the jabs Samberg was sending his way. “Charlie and I were hanging,” he grinned. “What do you need from me? That’s an old friend! We’re old friends, man! You’re new friends!” “Un-be- ree -vable,” Samberg said with feigned disappointment. Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Russell Brand At Movie Awards: His Nine Funniest Jokes

From Twilight to Teen Mom, no pop-culture stone was left unturned. By Terri Schwartz Russell Brand hosts the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Russell Brand might have to host every MTV awards show from here on out! The 2012 MTV Movie Awards were immediately off to a good start thanks to Brand’s , and he kept the jokes rolling throughout the rest of the two-hour-long show. In honor of Brand’s sharp witticisms, we’ve put together a list of his nine best jokes that kept us laughing long after he finished telling them. Twilight! Hunger Games! When Brand first walked out onto the Movie Awards stage and started yelling, ” Twilight! Hunger Games!” we figured he was off Andy Samberg. Instead, as he said later in the monologue, he was using them because “these words generate goodwill.” They certainly did, as he used them repeatedly over the course of the night. It’s the End of the World as We Know It “Tonight is an important ceremony because according to the Mayans, the world will end in December this year,” Brand pointed out. “If Earth hurtles into the sun and humanity is destroyed, we will all say as one: We had the MTV Movie Awards 2012 and it was worth it! ” Yes we can, and yes we will. Justin Bieber Is the Man The first pop-culturally relevant moment Brand brought up in his opening monologue was Justin Bieber’s recent attack on a member of the paparazzi. “Justin Bieber beat up a paparazzi. Well done, Justin!” he said. Brand went on to say that he didn’t think he’d ever be able to hit Biebs if he fought him because the 18-year-old is “so pretty” that “even if he was attacking me, I think I would do a little orgasm.” Well, to each his own. Kann-Yay and Kim Brand was quick to thank Kim Kardashian for making his short-lived marriage to Katy Perry not seem so bad in the scheme of things, but he then went on to beg the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star and her new boyfriend Kanye West — whose first name he repeatedly mispronounced ” Kann -Yay” — to make a sex tape. “I think of Kim Kardashian as the Stanley Kubrick of sex tapes,” Brand said. “They’re always brilliant, but he only does one a decade.” Brand’s Special “Grease” Tribute Nothing was off limits during the Movie Awards, not even John Travolta’s recent sex scandal . After saying that “Rock of Ages” is the best movie since “Grease,” Brand said he honored that film by giving Travolta a massage. “He needed it, man. He was so stiff, I’m telling ya!” Brand said. Michael Fassbender and His Penis He claimed he never noticed Fassbender’s “huge, engorged talent as I was staring at his massive co–.” That must have been why he decided the “Prometheus” star was going to be the next celebrity he married following hosting an MTV awards show. Sorry, Katy! Taking Advantage of Charlie Sheen’s Old Addictions Charlie Sheen was a great sport during Brand’s opening monologue, especially since the Brit repeatedly took jabs at the “Anger Management” star’s recent problems. “I’ve taped a bottle of Hennessy and a gram of coke under your chair. In case I start going crazy, just nick it and do a couple of lines. Release the tiger blood hero!” Brand said to resounding laughter. Our New Host: Julianne Hough’s Nephew One of the best parts of the night came when a behind-the-scenes shot showed Brand coaching Julianne Hough’s nephew and date for the night to replace him as host. According to Brand, all you need to do to be a great Movie Awards host is talk about farts a lot . And the cutest part is that it was all improvised “! “Teen Mom” Vs. “Teen Wolf” As you probably realized once the 2012 MTV Movie Awards wrapped, the show wasn’t followed by “Teen Mom,” but rather by the season-two premiere of “Teen Wolf.” Whoops! We can’t tell if his gibes at “Teen Mom” instead of “Wolf” were intentional or a mistake, but we still can’t get over his joke, “Do stay tuned after the show for the new season of Teen Mom, where pregnant women are laughed at for money!” Jaw-dropping, heart-pounding, gut-busting moments galore. Josh Hutcherson Wins Best Male Performance Movie Award

‘Hunger Games’ star beats out Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum, Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the coveted Golden Popcorn. By Ryan J. Downey Josh Hutcherson wins at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images UNIVERSAL CITY, California — “The Hunger Games” stormed the box office to the tune of nearly $400 million, and at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards , the man fans know and love as Peeta Mellark clutched a different type of riches in his hand: a Golden Popcorn. Thanks to the massive number of fans who voted for him, Josh Hutcherson took home the award for Best Male Performance at the 21st annual awards show. “Oh, my god. I’ve wanted to hold a Golden Popcorn since I was like 4 years old. This is incredible,” he said from the stage, as he accepted the award from Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller. “It’s insane too, because every single one of those actors I admire and I want to be, so to even be up here is blowing my mind right now.” Hutcherson thanked “Hunger Games” author Suzanne Collins, director Gary Oldman, his producers like Nina Jacobson and Jon Kilik, Lionsgate and, of course, the fans. “You guys are the best fans in the world,” he gushed. “You’re crazy and passionate and you make our job amazing.” The 19-year-old Kentucky-born actor joined an esteemed list of A-listers, guy’s guys and heartthrobs who have taken home the esteemed award, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio. The former child star beat out a formidable array of challengers who all more than earned their places in the category: , Channing Tatum , Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt . Radcliffe was nominated for his final performance as the world’s most beloved boy wizard in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.” Tatum cruised into the category for his role opposite Rachel McAdams in the tear-jerking romantic drama “The Vow,” which also earned him a nomination for Best Kiss. Gosling, who won the Best Kiss category once upon a time (with McAdams) thanks to “The Notebook,” was nominated for the darkly pensive and critically acclaimed drama “Drive.” Gordon-Levitt, who we’ll be seeing again in “The Dark Knight Rises” this summer, gave a nuanced performance in “50/50.” Anticipation for the next entry in the “Hunger Games” series, “Catching Fire,” is already running high. Earlier in the week, “John Carter” star Taylor Kitsch shot down rumors that he’d play dreamy District 4 tribute Finnick Odair, something Robert Pattinson debunked himself, as well. ‘Avengers’ Becomes Third-Highest-Grossing Movie Ever

Superhero flick trails behind two James Cameron blockbusters in the first and second all-time-gross spots. By Terri Schwartz Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson in the “Avengers” Photo: Marvel Watch out James Cameron because “The Avengers” is coming for you next. Marvel’s all-star team of superheroes has officially become the number-three highest-grossing movie of all time in the United States as well as worldwide, besting “The Dark Knight” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” for the honor. As of June 1, the movie made $538 million domestically and $1.3 billion worldwide, placing it behind only Cameron’s “Titanic” and “Avatar.” That’s not the only number-three spot “The Avengers” is in. “Snow White and the Huntsman” has debuted with a strong $20 million Friday gross in its debut weekend, knocking “Men in Black 3” from its top spot last weekend. “MIB3” came in second on Friday with an $8.3 million intake, while “The Avengers” rounded out the top three with $5.7 million. In all likelihood, that ranking will be indicative of the rest of the weekend as well. Considering “The Avengers” has been in theaters for a month, that’s some pretty strong continued momentum. We’ll attribute some of it to fans wanting to support their favorite Avengers going into the 2012 MTV Movie Awards weekend. Captain America and Thor are facing off against each other in the Best Hero category, but they’ve got some stiff competition in the form of Harry Potter, Katniss Everdeen and “21 Jump Street” ‘s Jenko. There’s only a very slim chance that “The Avengers” will climb any higher on the all-time box-office charts. In the U.S., it would have to top $659 million to oust Cameron’s “Titanic” and cross $761 million to beat “Avatar.” And it seems even less likely that it will pass either of those movies worldwide, as it would have to more than double its international grosses. Still, not too shabby for Marvel’s group of superheroes. Related Videos MTV Rough Cut: ‘The Avengers’ Related Photos ‘Avengers’ Snow White And The Huntsman
