Les Miserables: First Images of Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, and More

Universal has yet to release an official trailer for Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables , but USA Today has a first look at images of Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, and Co. in character. Visually, the musical film looks beautiful, but the jury’s out on how it sounds until we get more of an official listen. Take a peek at the Les Mis cast in the muted hues of 19th century France and chime in after the jump. Below, take a gander at Samantha Barks as Eponine, the role that the rumor mill had us thinking would go to Taylor Swift. Everyone else looks period-handsome, but Hathaway is striking, rocking Fantine’s shorn look while seemingly channeling Maria Falconetti’s Joan of Arc. Find more pics over at USA Today .

MTV Movie Awards’ Best Kiss Must Be ‘Powerful,’ Robin Thicke Says

‘You have to build up the tension, because the kiss is the release,’ crooner tells MTV News. By Fallon Prinzivalli Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” Photo: Summit Entertainment The Best Kiss award at the MTV Movie Awards is arguably the fans’ favorite category to vote on. For the past three years in a row, the honor has been bestowed upon “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for their smooches as Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. This year, they’re up against some hefty competition: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in “The Vow” and, their biggest opponents, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in “The Hunger Games.” While the winner is anybody’s guess, we’re wondering which couple deserves the award. There’s no one better to answer our question than Robin Thicke, who’s managed to croon his way into the hearts of many ladies. The musician tells MTV News that the Best Kiss award should go to the most “powerful” smooch. “You have to build up the tension, because the kiss is the release,” the “Exhale (Shoop Shoop)” singer said. “The kiss is the moment when the strings come in, and all of the danger and the anger and the frustration and the loss — the kiss becomes redemption. It takes you out of purgatory and into the gates of heaven. A kiss has to be that powerful, in my opinion.” If fans honor Thicke’s definition when they vote, it sounds like Hutcheron and Lawrence could take home the coveted golden popcorn. Their characters, Katniss and Peeta, are in danger while they’re stuck in a cave, she could lose him if he dies from his injuries, and he’s frustrated and angry that she wants to head into the bloodbath of the Cornucopia to save him. With a single kiss, all that tension is released. Sounds like they’re a shoe-in, right? You decide! The power is in your hands. Vote now through Saturday, June 1, at MovieAwards.MTV.com , and stay tuned for more Movie Awards coverage right here on MTV News! Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET. Who gets your vote for Best Kiss? Share your pick below! David Hasselhoff: I Was ‘The Ultimate Nick Fury’

Although Samuel L. Jackson has played S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury in Iron Man , Iron Man 2 , Thor , Captain America , and the record-breaking Avengers , his portrayal of the cigar-chomping Marvel Comics government agent isn’t definitive to everyone. Like, say, to David Hasselhoff — Baywatch legend, Knight Rider icon, and star of the upcoming Piranha 3DD — who donned Fury’s signature eye patch and scowl in his own 1998 telefilm, earned Stan Lee ’s blessing, and claims that his is the “ultimate” Nick Fury. “I didn’t see The Avengers yet,” Hasselhoff admitted to Movieline while discussing his appearance — as David Hasselhoff — in the R-rated sequel Piranha 3DD . “I love Sam Jackson, but you know… my Nick Fury was the organic Nick Fury that was written and discussed with Stan Lee before anyone got in there to change it. Nick Fury was written to be tongue-in-cheek, and he had a cigar in his mouth, he was a tough guy — he was cool.” Hasselhoff says he had earned Lee’s praise for his turn as Fury, who comes out of retirement in the 1998 film Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. to battle HYDRA. So he was a little miffed to learn the character would be portrayed by someone else — even if that someone was Jackson. “Stan Lee said, ‘You’re the ultimate Nick Fury,’” he remembered. “Avi Arad, when they bought it, said, ‘Don’t worry, you’re going to be the Nick Fury forever,’ and they lied. [Pause] But that happens to me all the time. That’s when you realize life isn’t fair.” Hasselhoff, meanwhile, has been trying to revive another of his past projects anew — not Baywatch (alas!), but Knight Rider — his popular ’80s series co-starring a tricked-out, artificially intelligent car named KITT. Numerous attempts to revive the series in film and television form have been made in the years since Knight Rider went off the air (including, most recently, a 2008 TV series that lasted one season), but the latest iteration — a film adaptation, currently at the Weinstein Co. — is what Hasselhoff has his sights set on. In fact, he told Movieline, it’s the Weinstein Co.’s Knight Rider film that helped entice Hasselhoff to take part in Piranha 3DD . “Bob Weinstein called me and said, ‘Come on, man — if you do this movie and it does really well, I’ll put you in Scary Movie ,” Hasselhoff said, “‘and then we own Knight Rider , maybe we can put you in the Knight Rider movie…’” Still, Hasselhoff wouldn’t mind finding his way back into the Marvel fold — perhaps in Avengers 2 ? “I had a blast playing Nick Fury,” he said. “And if it ever came back and Nick Fury has a brother — Dick Fury? — I’d be there.” Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Eli Roth’s Star Wars Comic Book is Kind of Adorable

Star Wars opened 35 years ago today, which prompted Movieline pal Mike Ryan to probe the memories of contemporary filmmakers for a collective glimpse at the film’s towering influence. It’s a pretty diverse sample, from Jon Favreau to Diablo Cody to Gary Ross to Simon Pegg, but for my money, nothing beats Eli Roth’s illustrated Star Wars comics… from age 8. On the one hand, the guy’s art hasn’t improved that much in 30 years. On the other, it was kind of adorable then! He explains: Star Wars was the movie that changed my life. I can honestly say there was life before Star Wars and after. I obsessively drew pictures of it and in school took it upon myself to write the next few chapters of the story since I couldn’t wait for the next films to come out. Star Wars became the center of my universe. It was all I wanted to talk about in school and on some level influenced everything I write. I wanted to be Han Solo, but deep down knew I was more of a C-3PO. Aww . Roth’s accompanying Exorcist illustration is equally if not more inspired; if nothing else, check out the piece for Joe Johnston’s incredible story of working with George Lucas. Lucky guy. Also: God, I am old. [ HuffPost Entertainment ]
