Even so, Fox began promoting the 2012 blockbuster at yesterday’s Comic-Con with a press conference and panel featuring Scott, screenwriter Damon Lindelof and stars Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace. (Both Scott and Rapace appeared via satellite) So, just how do you promote a movie without giving away even the most minor plot details? Very, very carefully. Even so, Movieline managed to gather nine new bits of information about Prometheus , the most secretive project since Super 8 .

‘Captain America: The First Avenger’: The Reviews Are In!

Film should give ‘Harry Potter’ a run for its money this weekend. By Josh Wigler Chris Evans in “Captain America: The First Avenger” Photo: Paramount Pictures The summer of superheroes rages on this weekend with the theatrical release of “Captain America: The First Avenger.” It’s the final building block audiences need before the full picture of Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” comes into focus this summer, and by all accounts, the movie does not disappoint. Sporting a fresh rating at review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes , both comic book fans and casual moviegoers alike are feeling the patriotic splendor that Cap has to offer, so “Harry Potter” better watch out: Steve Rogers’ mighty shield could very will split the Boy Who Lived’s wand in half this weekend! Read on for a selection of the “Cap” reviews currently rocking the Web, and check out our own “Captain America” review on Splash Page. And if the star-spangled superhero spirit moves you, give us your own reviews in the comments section below. The Story “It was a pleasure to realize, once ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ got under way, that hey, here is a real movie, not a noisy assembly of incomprehensible special effects. Of course it’s loaded with CGI. It goes without saying it’s preposterous. But it has the texture and takes the care to be a full-blown film. You know, like with a hero we care about and who has some dimension. And with weight to the story. As we plunge ahead into a limitless future of comic-book movies, let this be an inspiration rather than Thor or Green Lantern. ” — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times The Hero “As the titular comic book character, Chris Evans has an appealing, earnest quality, whether he’s playing the digitally enhanced (reduced?) scrawny Steve Rogers or the well-muscled super-soldier dubbed Captain America. Evans provides just the right human anchor to the flash and dazzle of director Joe Johnston’s production. The movie wouldn’t work without Evans’ likability and the sense of integrity he projects, as well as his all-American good looks.” — Claudia Puig, USA Today The Villain “Then there’s Hugo Weaving as Captain America’s nemesis, Red Skull — a role that requires delivering a genuine performance from behind grotesque crimson prosthetics, which Weaving accomplishes with admirable dexterity. In fact, everyone hits their marks with energy and finesse in ‘Captain America,’ which with its clean, Art Deco lines and sprightly spirit exemplifies why comic book movies are such reliable fodder for Hollywood. They come pre-storyboarded, after all; their gadgets, dinguses and doo-dads are a production artist’s dream, just as those tights, capes and masks must provide fetishistic frissons for the most on-trend costume designer.” — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post The Action “A chase and shoot-out in a ‘Dick Tracy’ version of New York is one of the most thrilling scenes of the summer movie season, yet this generous film keeps the popcorn popping for two full hours. It’s got musical numbers, as Rogers is costumed as Captain America and sent on a war-bonds tour; it’s got a prison break, as the touring celebrity frees some multicultural P.O.W.s from the Nazis, and it’s got a mythic smackdown, as Captain America squares off against Germanic evil genius Johann Schmidt (the hugely entertaining Hugo Weaving, mimicking documentarian Werner Herzog).” — Joe Williams, St. Louis Post-Dispatch The Setting “Though it begins and ends with a scene or two in the present, as directed by Joe Johnston from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, ‘Captain America’ is first and foremost an origins story. Almost half of the film’s running time elapses before Rogers gets any kind of power at all, and though its elements are awfully familiar, it’s the most involving part of the film because it takes advantage of Evans’ performance. These early-days sections are so old-fashioned that, if you take away the copious special effects, watching ‘Captain America’ feels akin to watching the venerable 1950s television version of ‘Superman’ starring George Reeves. Buttons are pushed, dials are turned, secret passwords are uttered and lights blink, just like they did way back when.” — Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times Check out everything we’ve got on “Captain America: The First Avenger.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Breaking Dawn’ Wedding ‘Cathartic’ For Kristen Stewart

‘I don’t want to say it felt like a real wedding, but it definitely felt like a ceremony, ‘ she tells MTV News at Comic-Con. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” Photo: Andrew Cooper/ Summit Entertainment SAN DIEGO — For her third visit to San Diego Comic-Con , Kristen Stewart was happy to report to MTV News about getting married and giving birth — onscreen, that is. While “The Twilight Saga” star was quick to specify that it was Mr. Cullen she shared these milestones with, not rumored beau Robert Pattinson, she spilled the beans about filming the hotly anticipated wedding scene in “Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” “I think the most surreal experience was getting married,” Stewart said. “It was right at the bitter end. I was amping up to it the entire time. They left me on my toes for six months. And then it was just sort of very cathartic to see the entire cast in the pews and everyone excited to see how it was all going to go down. “It had a kind of feel of everyone kind of excited to see how it’s all going to go down,” she continued. “I don’t want to say it felt like a real wedding, but it definitely felt like a ceremony. It definitely felt ceremonial and celebratory.” This is the first time Stewart has had an opportunity to get in on the action with the boys of “Twilight,” and from what we’ve heard, she’s held her own against them. Stewart especially got to face off against Taylor Lautner, which she said was a lot of fun. “Taylor’s funny about it too. He’s like, ‘You’re so cute,’ ” Stewart said. “I think he was a little more intimidated then he led on. Maybe not.” “Breaking Dawn” isn’t the only movie Stewart is promoting at Comic-Con this year. She also has “Snow White and the Huntsman,” which has its panel Saturday. Stewart shared her enthusiasm about the movie without giving too much away about the plot. “I am so, so excited. We’re in pre-production right now. I think [Snow White] represents so much that I can’t wait to get across to the entire world,” she said. “Rupert [Sanders], the director, we’re so in the middle of forming the story and getting into it that it’s hard for me to talk about. I mean, I’m training. I’m riding horses all the time.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Cage The Elephant’s VMA Nod ‘A Total Surprise’

‘I plan on pulling a Lady Gaga and showing up in an egg,’ frontman Matt Shultz laughs to MTV News. By James Montgomery Cage the Elephant Photo: Sony Music Entertainment Cage the Elephant frontman Matt Shultz is still getting the hang of this whole awards-show thing, but he’s a pretty fast learner. Case in point: Here’s the story of how he found out his band had been nominated for Best Rock Video at the 2011 Video Music Awards . Or, more specifically, the two stories. “Last night, I was on the Internet, and I happened to stumble across it on someone else’s profile, and I was like, ‘Whoa, cool.’ I mean, it’s not an amazing story, so maybe I should come up with something different,” he laughed. “What really happened was: Someone kidnapped my mother, and in order to save her life, we have to win the Best Rock Video award. So I called a bunch of people and threatened their lives and, so far so good; I can’t wait to see my mom again. The plan is coming together pretty nicely.” And it’s a shame that Shultz considers his band the underdog in the Best Rock category, because if they won, he’d definitely give the best acceptance speech. But in all honesty, he doesn’t care if “Shake Me Down” triumphs over the Foo Fighters’ “Walk,” the Black Keys’ “Howlin’ for You,” Mumford & Sons’ “The Cave” and Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks,” mostly because he can’t believe Cage are even in the running. “It was a total surprise. I had no clue we were even up for it,” he said. “It’s an honor to be nominated, and honestly, I’m not thinking about it in terms of our chances or whatever. I just think it’s cool that we’ve been nominated, and that’s good enough for me.” But don’t let his humility fool you. Shultz is already planning to take full advantage of the VMA stage — and the red carpet — by getting in touch with his inner Gaga. “I plan on pulling a Lady Gaga and showing up in an egg,” he laughed. “But it’s going to be a Cadbury egg and I’m going to wear a little banner around my shoulders that says ‘Goo-Goo For Gaga.’ It’s going to be fantastic.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. ‘Breaking Dawn’ Honeymoon Debuts At Comic-Con

In one of two new clips premiered at the San Diego event, newly married Bella and Edward Cullen get steamy in the ocean. By Terri Schwartz Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit SAN DIEGO — It was the swoon heard ’round the San Diego Convention center, as the honeymoon scene from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” debuted at Comic-Con . Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner premiered two brand-new scenes from the highly anticipated movie on Thursday (July 21) in Hall H, where more than 6,000 fans had flocked to see their favorite stars. The honeymoon scene, which Twilighters got a glimpse of in a teaser trailer that aired during this year’s MTV Movie Awards, was definitely the hit of the panel. The scene starts with Edward Cullen carrying the newly minted Bella Cullen over the threshold at their honeymoon location, the fictional Isle Esme. One of the most distinct elements of the scene was how adult both Stewart and Pattinson look, marking their transition to married couple. After exchanging a lingering steamy look in their beautiful tropical bedroom, Bella asks Edward for “a few human minutes.” “Don’t take too long, Mrs. Cullen,” Edward replies, causing an echo of sighs around Hall H. What follows is a cute sequence with Bella taking some personal time in the bathroom to brush her teeth, shave her legs, pick out a sexy outfit (her new sister-in-law Alice packed only lingerie for her) and shake off her nerves before getting ready to consummate her marriage. After telling herself, “Don’t be a coward,” Bella walks outside to the beach in only a towel and sees Edward standing naked in the ocean. She lets her towel fall to the sand, and then walks out to meet her husband in the ocean — right as the clip ends. Filming the scene, though, was not as romantic as it looks on the big screen, according to the “Breaking Dawn” stars. “Brazil was amazing,” Pattinson said of the shooting location. “It was really amazing the day we got there, and really beautiful and warm and everything you’d expect. Then it suddenly, for the remainder of the shoot, was not only raining but like hurricane storms. … It was kind of like having a honeymoon in England. We were playing board games instead of, like, making love on the beach.” Taylor Lautner’s character, Jacob Black, was the focus of the second scene that debuted at Comic-Con. Among the castmembers who also make appearances in it are Peter Facinelli and Elizabeth Reaser, who play Cullen patriarch and matriarch Carlisle and Esme, as well as members of the wolf pack, including Julia Jones, Booboo Stewart, Alex Meraz, Bronson Pelletier, Tyson Houseman and Kiowa Gordon. The first half of the second scene shows Jacob meeting with Carlisle and Esme. He warns them about facing off against wolf pack leader Sam Uley, but Carlisle and Esme tell Jacob they will risk their lives to protect Bella. Then Jacob and his followers, Leah and Seth Clearwater, head to a meeting with the now-enemy werewolves Paul, Quil, Jared and Embry. Jacob asks them to tell Sam that when Bella’s baby is born, he will be the “the one to destroy it.” “I’m the only one who can,” he explains. “They trust me.” Lautner comes to the forefront in “Part 1,” but he said he was jealous that his special-effects wolf form got to do many more action scenes than he did. “I wish I could be actually doing that. I’m super jealous of my CGI wolf, though he is pretty cute and fluffy,” Lautner admitted to the San Diego crowd. But that doesn’t mean he didn’t endure some scrapes. Lautner said he actually got a bit bruised by Pattinson during one of the movie’s key moments: the birthing scene. “He gives me a nice punch in this [scene] after he finds out I imprinted on his daughter,” Lautner said with a laugh. Bad Movies We Love: Black Swan

I don’t love Black Swan . I barely even enjoy it! I barely even get what there is to enjoy. It boasts the hammiest dialogue of the past Oscar season? It’s the most transparent psychodrama in film history? It can’t establish a tone, a fully believable character, or consistency because it resorts to camp at every turn? I just don’t know. But if Friends With Benefits star Mila Kunis ever starred in a Bad Movie We Love, it’s this. (Sorry, Krippendorf’s Tribe — you’re just bad.) There’s an argument for its inclusion in our weekly feature, and reservations aside, I’m picking out five utterly bizarre instances in Black Swan that justify that inclusion. I will now recite them diplomatically!

Ryan Gosling Declares His ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ For Emma Stone

‘She’s everything, all the time,’ Gosling tells MTV News at film’s NYC premiere. By Amy Wilkinson Ryan Gosling Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Ryan Gosling may have an Oscar nomination to his name, but the leading man didn’t have to strain his acting muscles too much to portray a man enamored of Emma Stone in the upcoming romantic comedy, “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” When we caught up with the 30-year-old at the movie’s New York premiere Tuesday night, he was more than happy to dole out accolades for his co-star. “She’s everything, all the time,” he said. “There’s no one like her. As soon as she signed on for this movie, I knew it was going to be good.” In the film, which hits theaters July 29, Gosling plays lothario Jacob, a love-averse playboy who takes Steve Carell’s Cal under his wing to teach him the ways of a skilled pickup artist. Yet, in the end, Jacob himself unwittingly finds love with Stone’s Hannah — a role Gosling said was perfectly cast. “The whole film depends on my character giving it all up for her,” he said. “When she came in the room, it all made sense. Show me someone that wouldn’t give it all up for Emma Stone, and I’ll show you a liar.” The admiration, however, certainly wasn’t one-sided. Stone, who stars alongside both Gosling and Justin Timberlake (“Friends With Benefits”) this month, had a hard time wrapping her head around her collection of amazing co-stars. “It’s pretty wild, isn’t it?” she said. “It’s not too shabby. Those Mickey Mouse Clubbers, I’m going to take them by storm.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Captain America’ Is For The Ladies Too, Stars Say

‘We do a really good job establishing a romance,’ Chris Evans offers as a reason female moviegoers should check out ‘The First Avenger.’ By Kara Warner Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell in “Captain America: The First Avenger” Photo: Paramount Pictures Generally speaking, a superhero or comic book-based movie can almost guarantee that its fervent fanboy following will show up at the box office come opening day. A more elusive audience to capture with these big, flashy blockbusters are female moviegoers. Not that women don’t love superhero movies or read comic books, of course, but they aren’t often a studio’s target audience. When MTV News caught up with the stars of “Captain America: The First Avenger” recently, we asked what their film has to offer the lady moviegoers who might not necessarily be as interested in the action and explosions as others. “I gotta be honest, [compared with] the majority of superhero movies that I’ve seen, I think we do a really good job establishing a romance,” Chris Evans, a.k.a. Cap himself, said. “It’s a budding romance, it’s early. Steve Rogers hasn’t had much experience with women, so the romance they establish is new and fresh, and it doesn’t really have a chance to develop,” he explained. “I don’t want to give too much away, but I will say everything else in the movie aside, the one thing I think they really did right was the romance.” Hayley Atwell, who plays Steve Rogers/ Captain America’s love interest Peggy Carter and is one of the only women in the film, agreed with Evans. “It’s got a strong, sincere love story running through it,” she said. “Captain America has a sincerity. He’s earnest, and there is a vulnerability about him. He’s not your typical testosterone-fueled man.” In addition to all the sincere romantic stuff, Sebastian Stan pointed out that there are some superficial reasons for ladies to like the film as well. “I feel like you can drive a car on Chris’ chest, so maybe that?” he said, speaking to Evans’ muscle-bound physique, post-superserum. “That might help.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Captain America: The First Avenger.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
