Halle Bailey Cast as The Little Mermaid, Racists Flip Out on Twitter

Halle Bailey is about to be part of our big screen world. The 19-year old — who forms one half of the R&B duo Chloe X Halle, along with her sister — has been cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Said director Rob Marshall of the decision to cast Bailey in the title role of the film, which is based entirely on the iconic 1989 Disney cartoon: “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance – plus a glorious singing voice – all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role.” Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are also also talks to star and lend their voices to the movie, which will begin production in 2020. The Little Mermaid will be the latest Disney cartoon to be remade in this live-action fashion, following this spring’s Aladdin and this summer’s The Lion King. So… that’s it, right? End of story and end of this latest piece of interesting movie news? NOPE! Because social media can be a terrible place, full of judgment A-Holes and racists in general, many people out there are aghast over Bailey’s casting. Because they thought it was Halle Berry who was cast as Ariel? Actuallly, yes. This was an initial misunderstanding. But the bigger uproar has centered around the fact that Bailey is African-American and the character of Ariel was not. Of course, she as also a mermaid and Bailey is a human… but no one has really objected to this difference between the singer and the curious mermaid. This person, for example, tried to use science to argue that Ariel simply had to be white: There was also the use of the fake term “blackwashing,” along with some attempts to reason that Ariel is Dutch and, therefore, well, you see… We’ll spare you the disgusting details of other, similar Tweets. But know this: There’s a Change.org petition, which we are NOT about to link to, that calls for Bailey to be fired there must be “justice for Ariel” and the petition signees aren’t about to let “Disney ruin our childhood.” We don’t even know what to say about people who actually get worked up over what ethnicity they think a cartoon ought to be when he or she is brought to life by an actual person. Go outside? Take a nice, long walk? Try to re-evaluate every aspect of your life? Because, seriously, you are 1. Mostly just being racist; and 2. Really need to direct this anger toward pretty much anything else of importance in the world. The above Tweet is how Bailey herself reacted to the casting news. Pretty awesome image, isn’t it? We’re just gonna go ahead and leave it at that,

License To Dip: Grace Jones Reportedly Leaves James Bond Set Because She Didn’t Have Enough Lines

Source: Mark Metcalfe / Getty Grace Jones Reportedly Quits ‘Bond 25’ Because Her Role Wasn’t Big Enough Ms. Grace Jones will not be relegated to the background. According to sources from The Sun , the iconic performer walked off the set of the new James Bond movie, Bond 25 , because she didn’t have enough lines. Jones already has Bond experience thanks to her role as the villain May Day in 1985’s A View To A Kill.  The 70-year-old diva was expected to make an epic comeback in the new Bond 25 movie. However, sources say she was not satisfied with her role in the film. It’s a shame too, considering the crew spent loads of money making sure her stay was comfortable. According to sources, the production secured a luxury residence for Ms. Jones to stay in near Pinewood Studios in Buckingshamshire. “Of course, she comes with a reputation, so they organized premium accommodation and rolled out the red carpet on set to make her feel welcome,” one source said. “But it turns out Grace was expecting to play a bigger role in the movie and took her brief cameo as a slight. She was out of there quicker than it takes to rustle up a martini.” Damn. Grace’s cameo was first rumored back in April and it was expected to involve a scene with Daniel Craig . Ever since the movie started production, things have been pretty hectic. The original director of the movie, Danny Boyle , quit in August 2018 over the direction of the script. Then, earlier this month, outrage erupted on set after Boyle’s replacement, Cary Fukunaga , skipped filming to play on his Playstation, according to sources. This is a rumor he eventually denied , however. Despite all the chaos, Bond 35 is still scheduled to hit theaters on April 3 of next year.

The movie, which was about two undercover FBI agents going undercover as white girls to protect them from being kidnapped pulled in a cool $113 million and grossed just over $70 million. One of the more iconic scenes in the movie is when Terry Crews character, Latrell Spencer, takes one of the undercover girls out on a date, Marlon Wayans character, Kevin Copeland, is trying to make this date as unpleasant as possible. On the car ride Kevin turns on a pop station, in an effort to annoy Latrell, well the song that was playing was ‘A Thousand Miles’ by Vanessa Carlton, it created a great scene, and the song became closely tied to the movie. Crews also told  The Talk  on Monday that  White Chicks 2  could see a pop song performance — similar to his iconic rendition of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” — saying, “I think the modern day equivalent to that might be the song by Carly Rae Jepsen ‘Call Me Maybe’.” There have been no further updates, or details about the movie released. But as soon as we get more, we will update. Check out Terry Crews reveal the news bel ow.

Levels To This: Lil Nas X Proves Coming Out Is Still Complex, Even After The Pride Flags Come Down

Read the rest here:

Source: Splash News / Splash News On the last day of LGBT+ Pride Month — right before the final rainbow dust settled — country trap sensation Lil Nas X made a big announcement. In a tweet, he included a clip to his song “C7osure (You Like)” and wrote, “Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. But before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.” He then added a rainbow emoji to his words. some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure. pic.twitter.com/O9krBLllqQ — nope (@LilNasX) June 30, 2019   The song “C7osure (You Like)” features lyrics like: “Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow. No more red light for me, baby, only green, I gotta go. Pack my past up in the back, oh, let my future take a hold. This is what I gotta do, can’t be regretting when I’m old.” Not too long after Lil Nas’ initial tweet, he then posted the album art to his EP called 7, and lo and behold, a building in the city art is covered in rainbow colors. deadass thought i made it obvious pic.twitter.com/HFCbVqBkLM — nope (@LilNasX) June 30, 2019   It was official. Lil Nas X was coming out! Yay! But coming out as what, exactly? Almost instantly, major publications like USA Today and Los Angeles Times   published headlines along the lines of “Lil Nas X Comes Out As Gay,” despite the 20-year-old never confirming his sexuality. Although publications like CNN claim sources close to Lil Nas confirm he’s gay, the young star still hasn’t had a moment to publicly define is sexuality for himself. For some folks, this might be a petty observation, but for people who’ve spent much of their life trying to understand their sexuality, it can be an ongoing journey trying to figure out your identity. Lil Nas could easily be bisexual, pansexual, queer or he might not want to label his sexuality just yet. The subject becomes even more complicated due to his trolling humor. On Twitter, the singer-rapper has already posted cryptic words like “just cuz i’m gay don’t mean i’m not straight.” just cuz i’m gay don’t mean i’m not straight — nope (@LilNasX) July 1, 2019   Then, on Instagram, he posted a clip of his song “Panini” with the words, “just cuz i’m gay don’t mean i’m gay.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lil Nas X (@lilnasx) on Jun 30, 2019 at 6:17pm PDT   Does this mean he likes girls too? Is he here for all the genders? Is he trolling us? WE NEED ANSWERS! Lil Nas X’s “coming out” saga reminds me of another important coming out moment — Frank Ocean ‘s. In 2012, he released a letter describing romantic relationships he’s had with women and men. Automatically, publications like The Washington Post wrote headlines like “Frank Ocean Comes Out As Bisexual.” But again, Frank never mentioned in his letter that he identified as bisexual. He simply said “I was in love.” Some people might have the need to know for sure someone’s sexuality or the specifics of their “coming out,” and this isn’t necessarily an odd feeling depending on the context. It’s hard out here in the dating world and some folks just want to know if they have a chance with their celebrity crush. However, Lil Nas X is teaching us that there are levels to this. He might never mention his sexuality again. He might even leave us guessing for years about what his tweets really mean. Meanwhile, he could be living his best gay life…or straight life…or straight life with a side of gay. Lil Nas also has to figure out the ways he wants to be “out.” Will he be sharing pictures of his future partners on social media? Will he dish on navigating his sexuality in queer-antagonistic spaces? These are questions he must answer for himself, after the pride flags come down, after the last floats set sail in a parade. Although being out publicly is great and has social awareness benefits, anyone understanding their sexual identity must move on their own time. Until the full story comes out (and if it comes out), we’ll just have to be satisfied with Lil Nas’ trolling tweets.

Source: ISABEL INFANTES / Getty Does Spider-Man: Far From Home Live Up To The Hype? A Lot of People Seem To Think So It seems like the cast of Spider-Man: Far From Home has been on a press tour for months now, so it’s probably just as exciting for them as it is for all of us to be able to say that the film is finally out. The movie’s release kicked off with some midnight showings early Tuesday morning and following that, people rushed to their phones and computers to let off their reviews for one of the most highly-anticipated movies this year. Let’s be honest: this film has some huge shoes to fill in more ways than one. For starters, it’s the follow-up to Avengers: End Game , the second highest grossing film in North America, ever. And if that wasn’t enough pressure, it’s also the movie that has the difficult job of closing out the third phase of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. Not only that, but people REALLY enjoyed both Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse , so whatever way you look at Far From Home , it’s got a whole lot to live up to. Tom Holland reprises his role as Spider-Man as he tries to spend some time with Zendaya’s character MJ while they’re abroad on a school trip. Jake Gyllenhaal also joins the cast to make for a truly star-studded film that will both delight and surprise you throughout the entire two hour runtime. As reviews from critics and those who have some industry connections got to see the film early came in, hype for this movie even more insane in the days leading up to its wide release–But what do the common folk think of the movie? If you haven’t seen the movie (it’s been out for less than 24 hours, so I can’t really blame you….yet) check out some non-spoiler reviews and reactions to those of us who rushed to see it the second it hit theaters. Whoever at Sony decided to release #SpiderManFarFromHome on $5 Tuesday… pic.twitter.com/0AqXdquTrY — Ryan Wright (@RyanPWright) July 2, 2019 That movie had everyone in the movie theater that I was in like… #SpiderManFarFromeHome pic.twitter.com/IrhSPLeMxL — Marc Scott II (@Marc_Scott60) July 2, 2019 #SpiderManFarFromHome was dope! Tom is definitely my favorite live-action Peter Parker and Zendaya is flat out the BEST MJ ever. — Aegon Thee Stallion (@KidFury) July 2, 2019

Sweet Black Love: Samuel L. Jackson Explains How He And His Wife Stayed Married For 40 Years

Source: VALERIE MACON / Getty Samuel L. Jackson Talks Maintaining Marriage For 40 Years Samuel L. Jackson and his wife LaTanya Richardson will reach their 40th wedding anniversary next year and while on the red carpet at the NYC Shaft premiere, UsMagazine asked him about the secret to their success. In the celebrity world, 40 years might as well be 200 years, but Sam Jack and his beloved have found what you’d think is an obvious way to keep your relationship intact. Separate the two. “Our job is just a job, you go to work, we go to work,” Jackson added. “If I’m at home working, I love coming home and sleeping in my bed. I was working a lot of other different places, but she comes to visit. You know, we both come from the theater. She’s on Broadway right now doing To Kill a Mockingbird, I’m out in the world doing movies. We understand the bond we have, the commonality of experiences, the commonality of joy of the theater and of our lives and of our daughter’s life, so it’s easy for us to stay connected.” Imagine that, famous people living just like regular people.
